Had lunch here after a long day cleaning out the hangar. It was located right next to the Van Nuys airport. It had a really cute mom and pop diner feel with a an airplane theme. The servers were very friendly. We sat outside in the front patio because it was a nice day. Before sitting, serves came immediately to wipe and clean the tables which I absolutely appreciate. I ordered a medium rare NY steak with roasted vegetables and coleslaw. The portions were nice, It was cooked just right, and it tasted really good! My buddies who took me here love this spot and would come here for food every time they go fly their plane at the Van Nuys airport. It was my first time here and will surely come back. LOL update to my review, is that I think my phone auto corrected "The Clubhouse" to breakfast burrito. I actually had the Clubhouse Sandwich and it absolutely still tastes delicious and I've still eaten there several more times and can't get enough of it. I ordered chicken and waffles this last weekend and it did NOT disappoint. The chicken was sooooooo flavorful and bone in. The waffle was a great side. I keep hoping this restaurant will go back to how it was many years ago, so I give it another chance every once in a while. But, still disappointing. Went there yesterday for breakfast. Our waitress not at all pleasant. She wasn't rude, but she wasn't friendly or pleasant. Also, my eggs were supposed to be soft scrambled and they were hard. Another member of my party had ordered a 3-egg breakfast, but got only 2 (the eggs were poached so very easy to see how many). We called the waitress and told here there were only 2. She didn't even look and said "no, there are 3" She never came to refill our drinks. The restaurant wasn't busy the entire time we were there, so there was no excuse for such bad service. read more

Good, solid comfort food served by pleasant staff. Came for breakfast (served all day), but we know they're just as good for lunch and dinner, with a few homemade specialties like slow roasted Turkey, scratch soups and baked goods. It's been at least 18 months since having pancakes so I went with a 2 egg + ham plate, pancakes(3) on the side -($13.99 on 2/14/22) WOW! Lulu's puts the CAKE in pancake! I know everyone has a different criteria for what constitutes a great pancake, so here's mine: must be HOT, must be light and airy, must have a flavor with a sight hint of vanilla aftertaste and be sweet, must be able to absorb and hold syrup without breaking down, must melt in my mouth. Must NOT be burnt or thin! These pancakes were PERFECTION!!! Hubby went with 3 egg breakfast and beef patty($13.99 on 2/14/22). They substituted his b'fast potatoes for French fries- the FF were REALLY GOOD! Very hot, crisp exterior with some nice potato on the inside and a light seasoning. He also enjoyed his beef patty and eggs. Staff is always very welcoming and friendly from first greeting to 'See you soon!' as we leave. Plenty of parking in their free lot. Looking forward to this pancakes again, but I'm not waiting another 18 months!!!! read more

So, it's Saint Patrick's Day......corned beef please. Went to Lulu's for their advertised corned beef special. The corned beef was chewy and fatty, the cabbage was over-cooked, the red potatoes were cold, as was the dinner roll. The carrots were perfect.‍. The service was good...it was very busy and only 2 servers. One woman had just clocked out and stayed to take orders and deliver water and drinks ( that was nice). As I was paying at the counter .....Mike , the manager was standing there. I told him about the Chewy, fatty meat. He shrugged his shoulders and said nothing. I won't be back. read more

First of all the service was TERRIFIC!! Lovely server, who was always there to fill our cups of coffee!! We wanted to try someplace new and local for breakfast, so Lulu's was the choice of the day. Lulu's is a typical American diner with a big menu to choose from - everything for Monte Cristos to biscuits and gravy! How many different hamburger selections, quite a few delicious looking salads and tons of breakfast selections. My friend's omelette was covered in delicious cheesiness. My omelet was ok but the tomatoes in it and next to it seemed like they were cut last week. The toasted English muffin was fantastic! I visited for the first time and was very satisfied. The customer service was excellent and staff were very attentive and prompt, including their covered patio service. The menu has a good variety of options and portion sizes are generous. Happy hour from 4-7:30pm includes half off appetites (excluding the sampler platter) and drink specials. If you are looking for a fancy venue, this is more down to earth. I still give 5 stars because the food and service were great. read more

Had lunch with a friend. I've been seeing and driving past here for many years and never tried it. Wow! Everything was delicious! Huge portions, great prices. Staff was so friendly and accommodating. Very cozy booths too. I had the tuna melt on sour dough with fries. Tuna was fresh albacore, fries were seasoned and cooked to perfection! My friend had an omelette. Went there for dinner last night . Service was very poor. No one in place when we got there. Soon after couple of more couples came in, they got their food before us. Ordered chicken fried steak,potatoes and eggs over easy. Eggs came out well done. Had to give eggs on plate back before I could get new ones . Toast burnt. Yesterday's experience was a bit of a disappointment, the service was the usual friendly and attentive, but the food was not up to par. My Tri Tip sandwich had a metallic taste and smothered in BBQ sauce, with the bun stale and falling apart. The only thing I enjoyed were the fries. The ambiance is casual with lots of interesting aviation themed decorations. I usually go here for breakfast and have enjoyed those. I will maybe try again and see if it improves read more

As a airplane enthusiast I have heard about this place and also as a valley native I have passed by this place tons of times and finally decided to go. Then we met Melanie! Not only was she super on top of everything and paid attention to every detail! I haven't had that kind of service in YEARS where I didn't have to ask for anything and she was just such a sweetheart. If you have the pleasure of coming here please look for her. I heard the food is really good here, but the food we got did not taste good. Maybe it was what we ordered. I got the salmon eggs benedict, and I assumed it would be smoked salmon with eggs and fresh spinach. Instead, it had cooked salmon, cooked spinach, and some sort of macaroni cheese sauce on top. I wouldn't have minded that it was something unexpecting if it tasted good, but it did not. The different textures and flavors were just awful. I hate wasting food, but I couldn't bring myself to finish it at all. It started making me feel nauseous. The person I was with ordered the country fried steak. It was our first time having it, so we didn't know what we were expecting. The meat tasted very cheap, worse quality than some fast food restaurant meats. And the gravy tasted just like any canned gravy, not very good. The service was good, staff were friendly. Wish I could've liked the food as well. read more

I was really disappointed to walk into this place with my friend who is blind and intellectually disabled who also had a physical disability causing him to walk slowly. I truly felt like the waitress was annoyed that we were inconveniencing her by walking slowly, taking a little extra time to decide on drinks and to order because I had to read him the menu. I asked her also to ask the chef to cut the meat off the bone for my friend but I guess that was too much trouble so I did it with a full butter knife. While my friend enjoyed his ribs. My Chinese chicken salad was completely underwhelming. Customer service is everything.... And accommodating people with disabilities properly is the law. Do better please. Food there is fine for a dinner shop, they have a room in the back we're you can use for groups, that's why I'm there once a week with my networking group. I generally get pancakes witch they make to perfection. They are very good, now I used to get a fruit bowl I was never really happy with that, the fruit was hard or not ripe or overly ripe. Great diner!! Accesible prices, and lots of variety. We were a little worried coming here at first, we had noticed the place driving by many times, and the building outside looks a bit run down. Alas, we entered and I was delighted to find many people enjoying a nice breakfast inside, so the atmosphere was already good. The only downside is our waitress led us to another room in the back where we were separated from all the warmth and atmosphere into a cold empty room. I'm not sure why this was done, when there were many seats available in the actual diner part of the restaurant. I guess it's my fault for not saying anything. As for the food, we were really delighted, the pancakes were good, my French onion soup was good, breakfast burrito was great with additional hash browns, and some nice sauce. We also got the appetizer sampler which was delicious. Overall I would come again but I wouldn't want to be seated separately. read more

I've been going here since it opened, when? The late 70's? It's a bit faded, but it still serves up reliable, if uninspired food, that will satisfy your appetite. I wouldn't go out of your way to eat here, but there aren't many old-school coffee shops around anymore and it beats Denny's. read more

Lulu is an interesting place for eats. Diner style with ample portions and lots of variety. But maybe too much variety in that there isn't one real stand out dish(?) Folks are nice in there. Pretty standard. Not bad. Not great. Last time I was there I felt the pricing was a little high for what it , but prices are high everywhere, so what can you ? I like the patio area in the front and the first eating area with tvs. good to meet with friends after work catch a little game. there are some backroom areas suitable for a big group of friends or even a luncheon if you wanted to have your event there. Been around for ages catering to the Van Nuys airport crowd, and any other local people working in the area. You can tell the regulars have been coming here for a very long time. I always find the place to be a little cold when I'm there and tend to keep my jacket on but that's just me. Looking for diner food and you don't want to go to that other national chain place, try them out. read more

If you are in the mood for some homemade comfort food, this place will not disappoint. Especially if your craving some homestyle fried chicken (Not Popeye's or KFC) head on over for their "breasted" chicken, which is what they are known for. It is delicious!!!!! The sour dough bread and butter they serve is also amazing. The bread is super fresh and served warm with a very generous tub of butter. I have to love Melanie our server and there's a couple of other services that are great to Efren the manager who I was working with was a lot of fun I had to have the club sandwich which can easily feed two people the turkey is so fresh and juicy that you swear you were slicing it right off the Thanksgiving day leftovers. We also had to have the beer better onion rings which are beyond delicious but I always add tartar sauce the outdoor seating is extremely comfortable they've gone way out of their way to make sure that you can watch TV listen to music and enjoy great food was fantastic service during such a difficult time... The food here is nothing special. For the portions you get of it, you'd think it's an amazing deal. It kind of was... until I actually ate the food. Maybe they're catering to people who lack tastebuds, or they think by making their food mediocre, they're likely to appeal to more people. I got the Garlic Herb Linguine, Potato Skins, and Mozzarella Sticks. The mozzarella sticks were so incredibly soft that you couldn't pick one up without it falling apart. I think a good mozzarella cheese pull is a good sign, this was excessive. Not sure if it's the cheese they use or how they fried it. The pasta was very bland (so was the chicken the added to it). I usually never like to add more salt and pepper to food I get from restaurants, but it was extremely necessary in this case. The potato skin boats were probably the best part, which may also be because it came paired with ranch. A little too greasy, but you should probably expect that from something with cheese, bacon, and the crispy (or burnt) cheese that was on the bottom of them. Almost forgot to mention that the complimentary garlic bread that came with the pasta was absolutely horrendous. read more
