Awe Lucy's Deli. On our latest adventure to find the best greasy spoon, we found ourselves in Evendale and saw this place from the road, turned our car around and headed in! Upon entering you immediately feel like you are in a Garden Ridge Showroom. Their are fake plants everywhere. There are actually lights in some of the plants and framed motivational posters line the walls as you eat. I'm guessing to say something like, "Hey man - you CAN finish that omelette. Just go for it!" Overall the atmosphere is a little cluttered and kind of off putting. For breakfast I ordered up eggs over medium, an english muffin, fried potatoes, and a side of bacon. Only one of my eggs was cooked over medium the other was super runny and white inside, gross. The fried potatoes were underdone for my taste. And the bacon tasted flabby, old and not very fresh. The pancake we ordered was great, and the western omelette was above average as well. Tasted very fresh and not greasy. Is it weird to say I actually prefer it greasy? I love when they griddle the veggies to perfection and pile it high with cheese. Just my personal opinion. The good news is, we didn't need a nap afterward. Overall the food was standard, and filled our bellies. The highlight was meeting Lucy herself and she told us to come back and try the Rueben and the soups. Until then, 3 - stars. read more

My family stooped here for dinner after a basketball game. Our expectations were exceeded! The food was great - vegetable soup was the best I have had anywhere. Service was prompt and very friendly and Lucy herself checked to make sure we were satisfied. The decor was quaint, but being Feb 1st, it was time to take down the Christmas decorations :) We will definitely recommend this to friends! read more

I have been eating at Lucy's for years now. The owner and her son are always very kind to my family and I. Best place in town to grab a quick burger. If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping by and checking them out. Just be aware if it is the weekend this place does get busy. I stopped in for a quick lunch. The service and ambience is exactly what you would expect from a deli in Reading, OH, very down to earth and friendly. I however, found the food to relatively poor compared to other local greasy spoon sort of deli. I had a simple ham&cheese sandwich, but found the quality of the ingredients less than top-notch. Pretty good cheap breakfast. The biscuits and gravy are pretty good - not as good as Bluebird in Norwood. The omelet was really good. My husband and I took our 4 kids here for dinner tonight. The waitress was very nice and attentive to us. 3 of my 4 children ordered "4-ways" and i watched the cook put all 3 plates of spaghetti noodles in the microwave. I ordered a BLT, the bread was soggy, and barely toasted, the tomatoes were mush, and the bacon was nearly burnt. My other child ordered a bacon cheeseburger.. Bacon WAS burnt. My husband ordered 3 cheese coneys and cheese fries.. His coneys were luke warm and the buns were saturated in chili. ALL of the fries ordered were perfect.. Because they were actually cooked rather than cooked previously in the day and just reheated by a microwave. Very disappointed, considering when i sent back my BLT and asked for something else, i was told they were out of what i wanted. This was a last minute decision to stop here and get dinner.. It was 7pm with 1 table of 2 customers. There was no reason our food couldn't and shouldn't have been made fresh!! If you're in Reading.. Go elsewhere! read more

Would give a zero if I could. The food is cheap and I can see why. Burger was clearly frozen and about the size of a silver dollar, pretty disappointing considering a burger is a diners signature lunch dish. Food was greasy visually unpleasant and extremely unhealthy. Currently writing this review on the toilet because of the stomach convulsions the fried egg sandwich gave me. Don't come here unless your looking to lose a couple pounds because the food will keep on the John all day. Do better Lucy's. read more

My mother and I went here today to eat lunch. A server came over to us and told us it was her first day working there. We decided on what we wished to order. The server then ask us what 2 sides we would like. I ask, does it come with sides, she said yes. To make sure she asked the manager/owner to find out for sure. She came back and said yes that our items come with 2 sides. We ask what sides we could pick and we each made a selection. When it was time for the bill. We were charge for the sides. We would never have gotten the sides if we new they were extra. The manager/owner was very rude and says she does not make mistakes and that I should have know the menu and it was my own fault even if her own employee checked with her to see if it was with the order. I asked why she was making me pay for her employee mistake. Again, no I am sorry or anything, just that I should have known how to read a menu. If I had not asked, and the server had not checked then I would understand. Never going back here, they are more concerned about misleading customers then customer service. A good manager or owner would have saw that a new employee made a mistake and ate the extras. But this owner does not care about customer service. Most of all it was the owners fault for telling the employee it was included. I should have refused to pay for the extras and called the police. My bill should have been between $14 and $15 for my mother and me, not $20. Most of all the owner was very rude. read more

My husband and I have been going here for about two months on the weekends. The prices are fair, and the food is good. But on Sunday, I was there and the owner was a little snippy with us as we were ordering. I over looked it. Today my husband and his mother were there. They ordered a sandwich each. The waitress asked what two sides would you like. My husband said are you sure they are included.She said yes. He sent her to the owner to verify that was a fact. She said yes. To make a long story short, when he went to pay the bill, the sides were extra. My husband questioned the owner. She was extremely rude. She told him that he has been here before and should know the menu! We will not be back. He posted a review on Facebook and he wrote a letter to the Better Business Bureau!!!!! read more

I have been visiting Lucy's for over 12 years. While the double deckers are still large and still good, the atmosphere needs some help. During lunch today, I noticed that the floor was covered with food, the carpet under my booth was very sticky, the outside sign and awning are almost unreadable and the inside decor has not changed in a decade. With all of the trendy new places popping up, Lucy needs to do some upkeep, or I think the customers will stop coming - but I hope not. read more

We went in because I love going to independent little diners. My general experience with places like Lucy's has always been good( or great) food and fast, friendly service at good prices. However, my experience at Lucy's was far from usual. First of all, the lighting was very poor and the decor was outdated. I guess the best words for the atmosphere was messy and a little overwhelming (that may have been the couple arguing loudly a few tables down). I just can't be sure of what it was that made me feel so tense while I was there. Maybe it was the fake plants (that needed dusting) with that dim lighting and all the clutter on the walls. Maybe it was something else. Anyway, the food was of less than average quality and very very bland. I never add salt to my food after cooking, but this time I had to. Additionally, the plating was messy and I couldn't seem to get the greasy chili from my cheese coney off of my hands. The service staff was curt, but not rude. My fiance waited ten min to get a refill on a pop. I just felt like no one really cared about the food or the service. The price was cheap, but we could have spent the same amount of money going across the street to McDonalds and had food with more taste, quicker service and no weird vibe.
