Thankfully, our two friends arrived first and got a table. It was minutes later the line started to form at the door. This place is popular! It's a cute place and don't miss the bathroom. I know that sounds odd, but 1. it's clean and 2. it's cute. I mean, check out Mona Lisa over the toilet. LOL The restaurant was hopping! We waited a long time, which was okay for a while because we had some catching up to do. After a few tables received their meals (folks that sat down after we did), I flagged down someone to ask if we could put our orders in. Once we got their attention, things got better. Mark go the Rueben with Chicken Pot Pie Soup as a side. He raved about the soup and wanted to buy a container of it to take home. We did not, but his wanting to says everything about that soup. He also raved about the Rueben. He ate half and was excited to eat the other half cold for dinner. I ordered a breakfast sandwich. It has a name that started with a "T", but I can't find it on any of the menus online or on Yelp. Doesn't much matter, it was SO good!! It was not messy at all. It was loaded with bacon under and on top of the eggs. I ordered it on marbled rye toast and devoured it. I'd order this again in a heartbeat. I ordered it with a side of goetta, which got confusing. The server explained the sandwich came with a side, but goetta wasn't one of them. I was totally cool with this. I wanted goetta. I just didn't realize the sandwich itself came with a side. What was weird is none of the sides were breakfasty in any way. I opted for potato salad, which I saved for the end. It was fantastic. It was super fresh and I loved the taste of dill. I could have taken a big tub of this home, too. One friend ordered the BLT. The tomato was two small slices of roma tomato. There was plenty of B and L, but hardly any T. I think it would have been a home run if the sandwich had more tomato. Our other friend ordered the Hot Italian. I didn't look like she expected and she thought it was okay. The menu has so many options and I would come back in a heartbeat, but maybe at 1 pm. By the time we finished, the restaurant had cleared out. Just a note. During the noon rush, I could see people waiting in line for what seemed like a very long time just to pay the bill. Plan accordingly and I'm pretty sure you'll love Tag's Cafe.

It was a Sunday and we were immediately told that they are Breakfast only on Sunday. I'm not certain if this is every Sunday or just that day, so keep that in mind. The service was fast and friendly. It wasn't very busy when we stopped in so we didn't have to wait on anything. I had ordered the Strawberry Pancakes. Not to be discouraging, but they weren't anything special. The cakes themselves were quite dense and heavy, so they filled you up easily. The strawberries on top were little to be desired. It was more of a strawberry jam that was put on top. Considering that a solid strawberry topping consists of a few minutes of cooking up fresh strawberries, sugar and water, I was disappointed with the topping. It truly is a bare bones diner. Nothing fancy, but that's okay. Good food and good service goes miles above anything else. They've got the service down perfectly. The only other thing that might be a helpful, yet discouraging, comment would be the front desk area. When you walk in, there is a front counter that you pay at. It's very visible and it's the first thing you see when you walk in. You see the counter and a fish tank right behind it. The state of the counter and the fish tank need work. The counter is cluttered and just looks dirty. Now, if this was an office in the back, so be it. My office is sometimes a cluttered mess. But this dusty cluttered mess is right in the front and center of this restaurant. I can't help but think what areas look like that I can't see. The fish tank would be a nice touch of ambiance however it too is pretty dank and dirty looking. If you're going to have it right there where everyone can see, you need to put a little effort into making it presentable. These may sound like harsh points, but they are honest observations. Would I go back? It's not very local to me, so probably not. But, if I was in the area, I would absolutely give Lucy's Diner another shot at lunch. I wasn't blown away during my first visit.
