CORRECTION/ Update: This review is actually for the Colerain location!!!! We picked this place at random while driving around to explore the area. We were getting pretty hangry and we don't like chain establishments, so this was where we ended up. First off --top notch service from the young lady who was our server. The coffee is subpar, but like a typical diner coffee taste, if that is your thing. From the outside, the place doesn't look like much but inside...surprisingly large and very clean and brightly lit. Super comfy vibes here that works well for any and all gatherings. Very family friendly with a plentiful menu. We tried an omelette, fried eggs, potatoes, bacon, and blueberry pancakes. All perfectly cooked and very good! Just goes to show you can't always judge a place solely by the exterior view. Great job to everyone, as this place runs like a well oiled machine. :) read more

What a great place to have a fast lunch, they have double deckers made with whatever meat you choose, served with chips, and pick your own soda out of fridge. For example first time BLT double deckers(bacon in abundance), 2nd time chicken salad with bacon on top ( so delicious) 3rd time went with hot double decker ham with Swiss cheese. Cannot wait till next week to see what we will order. Each time is better than last! Get food within 5 minutes, mostly blue collared workers eating there. Nice! read more

I had a grilled cheese sandwich for four bucks. It came with a pickle and a bag of plain chips, no drink. Seems expensive for two pieces of white bread, some American 'cheese' and a quarter of a pickle and some unheard of chips (tasted pretty much like original Lay's-y). I also ordered a side salad, which was all-iceberg and super watery. It came with about three little carrot shavings and two tomato slices. Not great. Only $2.50 though. They have drinks available by the 20oz. bottle. The restaurant has several tables and a ledge with stools. The food is ready quickly, as it is basically all meat, cheese, and toast combinations. I see no reason for the restaurant to be called Red Squirrel, unless of course they are creative with their meat names. I saw no evidence of this of course, but perhaps the piquant nuttiness in the cheese is no accident. So if you want a grilled cheese that you could easily replicate at home but faster and around more people, check it out. Also, if you like the opportunity for triple decker sandwiches with all sorts of permutations, its likely worth a stop. Otherwise, keep on keepin' on. read more

Had a friend recommend red squirrel with passion. He got a grilled cheese with bacon which was very over priced. When you have Tom+Chee & cest cheese both not too far. I'd rethink that since it was overpriced and too simple. I got a chicken salad double decker. I really enjoyed it. That wasn't too bad for the price and they were very generous with the chicken salad and ham. It was a huge sandwich and I didn't need to eat the chips. Overall it was okay. I am always pretty happy with the quality and amount for the price. However, I go less often because it seems really hit and miss, more often miss, on the staff courteousy. I asked for my Reuben to be grilled and they looked at me like I had 6 heads!!!! They make grilled ham and cheese, how is this so different? "We don't Grill the meat. We just put it in the microwave", was the reply I got. Well they needed to put that corned beef in the microwave a little longer and the toasted bread was barely toasted. Red Squirrel is an amazing Deli shop restaurant, especially closer to the north side. The double and decker sandwiches are very reminiscent of Shapiro's deli, an Indy Favorite. As soon as I came in, I was greeted by warm genuine smiles . I was asked about my day while the food was made and my card stripe didn't even work. Today was the first day I had ever heard of Red Squirrel. I just recently started working in Cincinnati (I live in KY) and coworkers were ordering lunch from here. At first glance, the menu had many options but they were all deli meat sandwiches, not particularly my cup of tea so I order the Julienne Salad - $8.10 for a salad... description of the salad according to their menu is: an abundance of mixed greens, topped with the traditional julienne of ham, turkey, Swiss & American cheese, garnish with hard-boiled egg & tomato wedges served with your choice of dressing. The salad itself was quite large (but for $8.10 I hope it would be) but the "mixed greens" were literally just iceberg lettuce... the ham and turkey had a nice flavor to it, egg and tomatoes tasted fresh. I was unable to finish even half the salad but when I went to go back later to eat some more I saw that the Swiss cheese pieces had mold on them? Ignoring the fact that serving mold is unsanitary, I in-particular am allergic to penicillin. If I would have eaten too much of that moldy cheese I would have wound up in the emergency room. Not okay. Completely unrelated to my salad was when I went to go pick up my offices order from them they were nice but after I drove all the way back to the office I realized they forgot to give us a meal. We had paid for it already but it wasn't in the bag. So I had to drive all the way up there again and I showed an older man how we had paid for a sandwich but never got it. He really didn't say anything to me, never apologized, never offered a discount or coupon or anything for THEIR mistake... thought that was very rude and unprofessional. 5.10.15 I am a white woman who took my black mother in law out for breakfast this morning. We were sat in a two seater both right when you walk in. After we finished our food my mother in law was finishing her coffee and we were catching up on life seeing I have not seen her in a while. Then we were abruptly interrupted by an old white man. Who started talking to me only. He said that we were ignorant for not finishing our food and getting up and leaving there were others in line who were waiting for a seat...I was so confused, soon as I started to say something back he hurried up and walked away. The ladies behind me were so angry they said he ruined there meal. I asked for the Manager and to my surprise the Manager said to me that he can't control what people say and he really didn't seem to care so much so the ladies behind me went in on the Manager and he got defensive and went and said something to the old man and came back to me and in a condending manner said the old man said to him we are good people and what ever..literally those were the Managers words..why in the hell would you repeat that nonsense to me after he already insulted us. I asked for the Owners name. He said he owned it. I was shocked that a business owner to such a large restaurant would not recognize that customer service is priority. He actually said what do you want me to do about it...I said how about tell him he can't insult your patrons. He ruined our breakfast.
