Somehow they could tell I was new to Alveo, and they explained the process. Cashier was very sweet. They do have gluten free upon request. Their menu is VERY simple. Only one page 7 different sandwiches to choose from. Sides are different types of chips and drinks in the refrigerated section. The only dessert served is their cookies. As I was paying, the (apparent) owner noticed me holding a paper menu, brusquely declared "those aren't for taking out," and literally snatched it out of my hand. Seriously??? How was I supposed to know that? Suggestion-if the rack of paper menus by the counter is meant to be used only in store, then post a sign to that effect, or laminate them, or do SOMETHING to indicate such. In my experience, most restaurants with substantial carry out business DO have menus available for customers to take with them to facilitate future orders. I appreciate that feature, and keep copies of menus from favored restaurants at home for just that purpose. If you choose not to provide that service, fine, but don't embarrass someone in front of a crowd of other customers simply for making a reasonable assumption. We've been driving past this newish sandwich shop quite a while now, and finally decided to try it. It seems as if there's always a crowd, so we opted to order online and take it home to eat. Our sandwiches looked and smelled delicious. Portions are very large. Two people could easily share one sandwich. Unfortunately, the Rustica was incredibly salty. The sandwich maker was very heavy handed with the black truffle honey. It was soaking through the bread. The creaminess of the ricotta did nothing to cut through the salt and truffle flavors. The potato chips were very good. They weren't salty or greasy. You could taste the potato. The deep dish chocolate chip cookie was large and tasty. However, one of the cookies that we ordered was left out of the bag on our online order. Alveo is expensive. Very expensive. They don't skimp on the portions and you can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients. However, our lunch cost more than I would pay for a nicer sit down restaurant.
