A coworker discovered their twice baked potato soup and the aroma filled the office, so I had to go check out where this amazing soup came from enjoyed my own and was hooked. Food is good however it's pathetic how long it takes to get your order. From today I ordered a grilled cheese and a premade potato salad. After 40 minutes, I got the simple grilled cheese and a premade pasta salad. During my time waiting I got to watch the people after me order, get their food, and eat it. 4 stars for food. Negative 3 stars for service. Food is good and inexpensive. The staff is very friendly and nice...but they move in slow motion. In all seriousness, you could go to any DMV in this country and leave faster and less frustrated. The service at Bake's is painfully slow to the point that it's hard to understand how they're and actual business. Unless you have a minimum of 25 minutes to wait for a simple deli sandwich and chips, don't go. The wait time is unreal here. People get frustrated after 10 minutes waiting in line and aren't even 1/2 way through and walk out. Simply Grand would have you in and out in 5, 10 minutes max, with 4x the customer volume. I don't just understand why this place is so slow, they seem to be more than adequately staffed. I really want this place to make it here, but I don't know how they can survive on a lunch crowd with this level of service. If you place any value at all on your time, I recommend avoiding Bake's. read more

Was craving biscuits and sausage gravy. Bake's Place was a small detour on my way to work. I didn't realize it was inside another building and it took me a minute or two of walking up and down the block before asking someone outside for help. I was attracted to this place because of the good yelp reviews and the cheaper prices. After reaching my destination and tasting my "biscuits and gravy", I was wondering if I ordered wrong. Is there a biscuits and "sausage gravy" that I should've specified? The gravy I received had no sausage and was very bland and pasty. It was as though it was made with too much flour and no sausage grease... Perhaps it's just a different style that I'm not used to. Friendly service, reliable food, quick - and I've had wonderful conversations with the guy behind the counter about the music they had playing. Just as many other reviewers have said, Bake's Place is a fairly hidden gem in Downtown Cincinnati. Trust me when I say, it is worth the search. Although I haven't had their lunch, I have had their breakfast selection. Believe me when I say: "They have good omelets". I usually order the Veggie and Cheese Omelet and it hasn't disappointed me yet. I've also had their breakfast plates, which are fairly decent. These can come with your choice of home fries or other selections, including toast. The toast was good, bacon - crispy (as it should be), but the home fries were a bit overdone for my liking. The coffee is very reasonable ($0.99 for a small), however, it wasn't very strong...minor detail. The decor is a bit difficult to describe, but I like it. Bake's Place is nestled in the side of the Mercantile Center and has large glass panels which serve as the enclosure. I love the high chairs and tables, which make me feel like I'm in a relaxed place. Everything, (drinks, coffee, creamer, etc.) is within reach inside the restaurant. The owner and the rest of the staff are friendly and that counts for a lot, not just Downtown, but in the restaurant business in general. This "Place" is my go to for a good breakfast and I would recommend it to anyone. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is the coffee issue. Love this place! their French Vanilla and Hot chocolate is awesome. My favorite sandwich is the Big papa but they all are good. Their breakfast is cheap. Lunch is a little pricey but you get your money's worth. Tom is awesome and everyone makes you feel at home! It was made so fast that I couldn't go to McDonalds faster than that (and who actually likes McDonalds processed crap they call food). Found this little gem when I saw someone coming out the lobby of a building will coffee - when in doubt, follow the coffee. Well, I'm glad I did! Very friendly, very inexpensive with good service and a sense of humor. The eggs were over easy (mostly) the toast was rye, the sausage a bit over done ( but it was 10:29 and I still was served breakfast. The home fries were generous and the tip jar humorous. The morning I went it was labeled Adopt a pothole fund- and oh yeah the service was fast. I also forgot to ask for a receipt- getting a reprint was no problem. It's a good place for the budget conscious. The servers/cooks are friendly guys who have been there for a long time. If you feel like it, you can always enjoy some witty banter. I have been going to Bake's Place for over 15 years and I highly recommend it. I go there for breakfast almost daily (during the week), and sometimes for lunch as well. You cannot beat the quality of food and the value. This is a father and son run business and they treat you like a friend and call you by name every time you enter their establishment. How many places can you say that occurs daily? And as for the person who said they didn't receive salt and pepper with their utensils....their utensils are clearly visible by the cash register and right next to those are the salt and pepper packets and napkins. Try their weekly specials too. Taste like your mom made it and they run the same specials daily so you can plan accordingly, with the additions of anything new they want to try out. You can't beat their specials for the money and quality. I highly recommend this place. Inside of the Mercantile Building.
