Good good food!!! Ordered a combination platter and we split it. The sope, just didn't have room, but will come again. This place was packed at 1pm on a Friday!!! They have regulars. Food alright with me. Will definitely come again read more

It really just completely baffles my mind ......how on earth does this mediocrity actually have a near perfect rating?!?!? I know for a fact that Long Beach has much better mexican food than this joint. I'm going to bank on the fact that this place has a pretty well stocked bar and lots of tables, maybe it's a good place to hang out and have drinks? Whoa... so confused. What to say about this place..... Let me just tell you about our Las Compadres experience.....really not much to it. We had to wait awhile to be seated first of all, and it wasn't even particularly busy. Secondly, my plate of food arrived lukewarm at best (if not cold). The rice was super greasy. The carnitas in my tacos were not very good at all, kindof dry and flavorless. The beans tasted good, but then they made me burp all the way home. Similarly, my fiance was less than enthused with his carne asada tacos. We were really expecting good things considering the steller rating. Oh, I will say... the salsa was especially tasty. As you can see I'm absolutely all over the place with this review, probably the worst I've ever written.... Here's the question of the day, "can more than 200 yelpers be wrong "?... Perhaps, but on that note I will vow to give this place one more chance to win my admiration. Maybe they just don't do great carnitas or carne asada for that matter. Maybe the cook was in a foul mood. Who knows? Maybe I will just go back for beer + chips and salsa next time.... read more

The good: Great service, beautiful friendly waitresses, TVs showing soccer! The bad: Food came out slow and was not hot when it arrived. The meat in the enchiladas was tough. Guacamole didn't have any salt in it. The ugly: Had a bloated unpleasant feeling for about 6 hours after eating lunch here. I blamed it on the three glasses of iced tea, but my wife said the "beans were old", claimed she could tell after the first bite; I believe her, she's Mexican and knows what "old beans" taste like. ;) read more

Won't say much about the food. Standard Mexican fare. Their Micheladas, on the other hand, are just the best. Most places that make a "good" Michelada succeed by adding so many spices and juices that the beer is overwhelmed. These guys here manage to make it a flavorful Michelada while still allowing you to taste the beer. read more

I've been coming here for years now and it never disappoints! We usually eat at off hours so we usually do not wait. But if you come at prime time, be ready to sit for awhile! The customer service is excellent! Everyone here has a great attitude, is extremely helpful and very attentive to your needs and wants! All businesses should take customer service lessons from these guys! The servers are always refilling your drinks and chip basket! Now about those chips, it's addictive! You must maintain self-control....they come to you piping hot so be careful! Salted to perfection, not too thick, not too thin....it doesn't get any better for a tortilla chip. The salsa is delicious, a little spicy for me because I'm a sissy. There have been many a times when we have gorged on the chips and we can't eat the food we ordered.... The food is always amazingly delicious! Here are some of the foods we like to order.... The molcajete mix to is my personal favorite. It has grilled cactus, chicken, sausage, asada, veggies etc. To me, it is great food and it seems healthy to me! The caldo de res, beef soup, is the best I've ever had! The broth is flavorful and the veggies have soaked up the delicious flavor of the beef. My family and I can not get enough of this soup! Carnitas are cooked to perfection! Very flavorful, seasoned just right! Whatever you order, you won't be disappointed. The best part of the meal, the homemade tortillas! I have never had the corn but I can definitely vouch for the flour tortillas. They are to die for! It doesn't get better than this! read more

We came here to celebrate a birthday, we started off with a round of margaritas. 3 rounds in we finally ordered food, I had the enchiladas de casa with Asada. Not sure if buzz or really hungry but they were amazing!!! The service was great our waitress was perfect. I understand it's their job to sell drinks but she was not pushy. We are have plans to returned for rounds 4-7 next Monday night Ps long waits, we sat around for almost 40 minutes till we finally got a table. Also a little to loud read more

I had a very nice experience here with my husband a few days ago. We shared two plates, one carne asada and one shrimp cocktail. Both were BOMB!!!!! and the service was great! I love spending my money where I am treated right. read more

Not good for parties over 6 people. Have been waiting for 1 hour and 48 mins because we have a party of 7. People have come, ate and left while we are waiting to be seated. Bottom line, if your party is more then 6, don't waste your time. read more

I asked the waitress what was good and she recommended the Filete A La Diabla (Fish In Hot Sauce). She was right...it was really good. Unfortunately, I had this huge tostada (VERY GOOD!!) before my meal and I couldn't finish the platter. But everything was great. I'm planning to head back there tomorrow with couple of my friends!!! read more

We've been twice in the last few weeks, and they have a great happy hour menu, and some really tasty and generous drinks. Margaritas are big, with plenty of salt, which my wife find a nice touch. The micheladas are tasty too. Highly recommended, as are the tamaritas (but they're smaller, and not on the HH menu), which are basically tamarind margaritas. We couldn't seem to get enough of the queso fundido con chorizo, which comes with some really outstanding homemade corn tortillas. Our party of 9 ordered four of those. Tasty. The burritos are enormous. Definitely enough to share. The flautas and taquitos were good, but not exceptional. The only caveat: service was pretty bad... ok, really bad, the second time we went. It took 45 minutes to get an order of drinks. Food came veerrry slooowly. It was kinda painful.. kinda "buzz kill" slow, nawmean? That's really the only thing keeping me from giving me a 5 star review. read more

Place was packed and we waited for half and hour. Turns out is was worth the wait. The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. I ordered the ensenada style fish and shrimp tacos and they were amazing and the rice and beans were very tasty and complimented the food. Our waitress was very nice and kept our glasses full with a smile. On the downside, the kitchen was a little slow, but the food was hot and tasted great, so that made up for it. The dining area was REALLY loud, so don't plan going there if you want to be able to hear anyone speak. LOL read more

Great Mexican food had to try it myself since all the yelpers raved over it. Lived up to all the hype, service was great and fast maybe a Lil too fast i like to enjoy a beer before my food comes out. Place was packed on a Friday night but waited only 5 min. for a table for 2 nice!! Lot's to choose from the menu seafood and Mexican food. Ordered the carne asada and shrimp. Excellent choice Big portions and hand made tortilla's. Bomb!!! read more

Solid mexican spot. Servings are big, prices are reasonable, and our server was exceptional. We got the queso fundido without the sausage- yum yum. I had shrimp fajiitas- well seasoned and lots of food. The fish tacos were also very good, as were the cheese enchiladas. Its not fancy, or mindblowing, but if you need a mexican fix, this is a good place to go. I'm tired of all these fancy expensive mexican restaurants in Santa Monica..... cheap dirty mexican food is the true good stuff. read more

I am so excited that my husband and I finally tried this place after his co-worker recommended it to us over a year ago. Now that we've finally had it, I'm completely bummed that we didn't try it sooner. This place was delicious. On top of having great food, there was also a large selection of appetizing dishes and drinks accompanied by stellar service. Our server was friendly, attentive, AND professional--sometimes the trifecta is hard to come by these days :) We went during a weekday and found the restaurant to be pretty busy. Although we will definitely be back, I'm a little scared to see what this place would look like on a weekend. Additionally, parking is a little scarce and gets a little sketchy once you realize you can't find a spot in the parking lot. So, did I like this place? Yes. Will I go back? Most definitely. read more

The food is remarkable. The other half stumbled across this place while yelp hunting for a restaurant before a Pike comedy show - grown up only date night. I will rave about this place for a week at least. The 3 point break down: 1. How was Customer Service? Customer Service was GREAT. The wait for a booth was 5 minutes on a Thursday night. The hosts and our server Yessenia were incredibly nice. Yessenia came right on time - for everything. 2. How was the food and what did we order? Hands down best Authentic Mexican food we have ever had. The Other Half had the Enchiladas Michoachan (he loved it - every last bite ....and he is a chef so hello!) . I ordered the Molcajete Mixto (a whole lot of delicious in a stone mortar). I'd never ordered anything served in a stone mortar before but I am so glad I did. The tortillas are made there and fantastic - that alone blows so many other places out of the water. Every bite presented a different flavor experience - I can't believe I was so excited about a bite of chicken or chorizo or shrimp - but with the grilled cactus and the handmade tortilla and the salsa...so darn good. I also had drinks - La Rubia was an excellent choice for me. 3. Will you be back to spend your hard earned money here? We left there completely satisfied...We will be back...again and again. For years to come I'm sure. read more

This is one of the best Mexican restaurant i have been to in a long time. The wait time is long especially if your going to come for dinner. We had the Chicken, Shrimp, Beef Fajitas. Very nice and modern Mexican food place that offers a great selection of Mexican food plates. From chilaquiles to mariscos their food is consistently great. I am a big seafood eater and could be very picky and they actually have great tasty mariscos. I order a plate called Ceviche Especial, which is actually not on the menu but it's probably one of the best ceviches I've had. It's shrimp ceviche with this super spicy red saucy. It's honestly outstanding, makes my mouth water just by thinking about it. The only downside is that the wait is always long! It's obviously because the place is great but still sucks to wait every time. I could say this place is probably similar to El Torito, but the food is 100 times better and more authentic, and place is much more cleaner and modern. As for pricing, I think it's average for the food portions. Overall a great place to have in Long Beach read more

I'm here sippin a margarita, watching the baseball game and being accommodated by RUBY. My husband and I went to another location and liked the food. Entering this location, it was more busy and we were a bit discouraged in waiting but once we got to the bar, RUBY greeted us and treated us like we were millionaires. Thank you Ruby for your friendly and professional attitude. We will be back for another round of margaritas and delicious food. read more

My boss ordered take out for us from los compadres Mexican restaurant. I've never ate here before this was my first time so I was very excited to try there food since I've heard a lot of good things about this restaurant from long beach locals. I gotta say I wasn't impressed much with my food. I was impressed more by the packaging presentation, nice clear Togo drink cups, black and clear lid salsa cups. Anyway I ordered chicken taquitos combo plate. The chicken taquitos had a weird sour taste to them but I'm not going to say all bad things.. the beans and rice made up for it! Authentic Mexican rice well done! And refried beans with cheese so good:) read more

Small parking lot come early or pray for luck finding street parking. Small bar area. Any booths in the bar require u to check in with the hostess for a seat in the bar. Large main dining area and service was pretty quick. Margaritas were decent could use a little more tequila. Food was ok ordered fish tacos which were ok had better tacos elsewhere. They have happy hour til 9pm mon thru third. But u must be seated in bar to get happy he prices. read more

I went there for brunch, and ordered pollo en mole; which happens to be my favorite dish. I couldn't find any restaurant that cooked as well as my mom, but i think i just did. Its tangy, but sweet, and rice and beans were good/average. Chips and Salsa were fresh. I ordered Jamaica as my drink i dont drink anything else ....its lacking a little something, but better than other places for sure. Overall 4 stars i would have given it 5 stars, but im really picky :) Definitely worth a trip. read more

This review is only for the drinks that we ordered . I have been going to this restaurant for years . I have no complaints about the service from the servers. I usually order 100 years organic margarita. Something has changed .... last several times I have been extremely unhappy with the drinks . I usually asked to remake them . Tonight was no different . It was sour and it was almost like drinking lemon water . Asked to add agave and more alcohol and what came out was a almost brown margarita . I still didn't taste alcohol . I don't know ..., food was mediocre tonight . Do I need to look for different Mexican restaurant ? read more

Food is amazing here. It's a Friday night and the wait time to get seated is 45 mins to an hour. Both the lobby and parking lot has people waiting to be seated. That's how good this place is. I absolutely love the shrimp enchiladas with the chipotle sauce, their alcohol drinks and the flan is also delicious! basically EVERYTHING here is good that's why there's always a long wait time. My boyfriend loves their shrimp cocktail and their al pastor burrito. Parking lot is small so if you plan on going - go before 5pm to avoid the flood of people coming in for dinner. You will not be disappointed! The wait and the food is worth the wait. read more

I've heard friends rave about it but haven't had a chance to try it for myself until this weekend. It was already packed at 6pm on a Saturday and we waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2. We sat in the bar area which was just fine for us, but I'm sure you can request the regular seating area if you want a little more quiet. Complimentary chips and salsa is always a plus, and we happily munched on these while perusing the menu. After ordering, it took a while to get our food, including the guacamole appetizer which I'm pretty sure they forgot about until we asked them (it came after the first entree was brought out). I had a taco combination plate and my cousin had a molcajete dish. Entrees in general come with a LOT of food; we both took about half of our entrees home and enjoyed them the next day. read more

WOW. This place was spectacular! I was here for a business trip, and found Los Compadres through Yelp. First of all, the service was spectacular. Very friendly, very on top of anything I needed refilled, or replaced, and very interested in my having a good experience. Kudos! Secondly, the chips and salsa- YUM! The chips were warm and the salsa, FRESH! Much more than I can say for a lot of mexican restaurants! I couldn't decide between the fish tacos and shrimp, so my server offered to give me 2 fish and 1 shrimp so I could try both! They were both very good, but the fish tacos were perfect. Very light and fresh, seasoned perfectly. The tortillas were made in-house, and you could definitely tell. The fish was perfectly cooked- flaky, not fried- and wonderful! The shrimp was good too, but had a tomatoey remoulade of some sort which had great flavor, but personally, I liked the simpleness of the fish tacos a little more. I also had a patron margarita which was very well priced, and tasted just fantastic! Specifically, there was no overwhelming flavor of sour mix- which ruins a lot of margaritas- it was perfectly balanced :) The only downside to this place? It's not closer to where I live! read more

First off, I was invited to this location by a great friend. This was my first visit to this establishment. I had very high hopes as my friend mentioned she was a regular. When we first got there, a dear friend had already advised we needed seating for six. We did notice quite a bit of people and they mentioned we had a two hr wait, yes a two hr wait and still we decided to chat order drinks while we waited. We saw many many individuals coming and going and coming and going. Mind you-we are healthcare workers so we are the most understanding with wait times. We checked at the hr, at the hour and a half and at almost two and still noone had called us. One of us spoke to management and they advised we were two be seated at the outside tables as our party was large. We were only six. Quickly we noticed the table had more than ten individuals, which got us to thinking about social distancing and not only that...why were we being told we were waiting for that particular table? This time, honestly not so nicely we asked why in the world have we not been seated and noticed one of the parties were no longer eating and one individual was even sleeping in their seat...wth we thought! And you'd ask me why not leave? I know we are stubborn humans. We stood cause I said I waited this long here...I want my food. Management was asked their answer was they had a party of 30 and they had no room inside either ...to make this story shorter...we finally got seated in the "canopy" we ordered our drinks and are our food. To our dismay, we couldn't even finish eating our food cause it was too late. I still gave them three stars only solely because the server was attentive and kind, food was good. Honestly, management needs to make sure the person writing names ensures whether or not searing inside or outside was requested. We didn't care where we ate and were never asked. This was assumed. Would I go back to the location, yes. I am a believer of second chances. However, won't be anytime too soon. read more

Enchiladas suizas were amazing!! The chips and salsa to start were great. Not spicy at all with a great flavor. I came with a party of six and we got three orders of enchiladas suizas. It was the perfect size with us each getting one enchilada. Great flavor and just plain delicious! read more

We had a dinner here last week to send fellow Yelper Chris Y. off to matrimonial bliss. This is one of Chris' favorite restaurants and I can see why. Everything is made fresh, the food is tasty and the portions are huge. The large guacamole is $8.95, which is a good price for the portion they give you, and it's all avocado. Too many places nowadays skimp on the guacamole by loading it up with tomatoes, but not Los Compadres! Five grown men had trouble finishing it. I tried a pretty standard combo plate for my meal - three enchiladas, rice and beans. Each homemade tortilla was stuffed with tons of filling (chicken, beef, cheese), all of which were delicious. The service is quick and friendly - we even got a free shot for the groom-to-be. We just had to lie and tell them it was his birthday, but it was free nonetheless. I'm sure we have a photo of Chris in his sombrero somewhere. Overall, a great spot for homestyle Mexican food and for catching the game. Did I forget to mention? It's a sports bar too! read more
