Love this bar! Jacob is the best! Not sure about the negative reviews, but I had a good experience. My first time here and felt welcomed as we stepped into the bar. Super cleaned with good vibes. They had offered Fritos nachos as a snack. Serve yourself kind of deal. Made me feel like at home. We took a couple of shots of tequila in cute small glasses. Jacob made sure he took good care of us. Starting going to this bar many years ago. Was always a great place to get cheap strong drinks (a Dive Bar's stock in trade) and a convivial atmosphere. Reasonably priced pool tables, juke box played music continually thanks to generous patrons, and it was open 20hrs/day. Last couple of years, the full-time (5 days/wk) bartender Dana has single-handedly ruined the experience in many ways. Devoid of personality, find of playing music only he likes and appreciates, has a habit of disappearing into larger woman's bathroom for long periods of time, doing who knows what while neglecting customer's needs. Think his wife runs the show...she works several nights. He undoubtedly wouldn't have a job were it not for her. Plenty of other Dive Bars in close proximity...Snug Harbor in Lakewood is a great alternative, or Zanzabuku. Steer clear of this place Tue-Fri days @ a minimum. read more

There's a real charm to The Interlude. It's laid-back, a little moody in the best way, and totally dialed in. The kind of place where you walk in and immediately feel like you're in the right spot. The cocktails were thoughtful without being fussy. You can tell whoever's behind the bar takes their time--not just in technique, but in how they carry the whole vibe of the place. The music, the lighting, the energy--it all works. Intimate but never stiff, cool without trying too hard. This isn't just a bar, it's a mood. And Long Beach could use more spots like this. Local dive bar near my house that I like to stop in to visit from time to time... with the girls, with my husband or a group of friends. :) Not very big but they have pool, darts and a juke box. I have 2 complaints though; they don't have Coke (which I love) or even Pepsi (not a fan but would tolerate in a pinch as a mixer).... It's RC Cola! Say, whaaaat?? My Malibu and Diet tasted "off" so I asked about it and that's when I learned about the randomness of RC Cola that they carry. Secondly, they don't have Red Bull. Or Rock Star. Or even Monster. But something called Speedy Energy (?) HUH!!? It wasn't HORRIBLE and did taste decent with our jäger but it was no Red Bull. Those 2 things won't stop me from going back...I will just order beer or a vodka drink. ;-) read more

I visited this bar on Saturday, 2/15, to play darts with a friend. I ordered a Jack Daniel's Honey on the rocks with two limes from the female bartender. About a minute after receiving my drink, she asked if she could close out my tab since her shift was ending. Wanting to leave her a bigger tip, I ordered another round, even though I hadn't finished my first drink. To my surprise, when the second round arrived along with the bill, I noticed an extra charge--$2 for ice on each drink. Yes, I was charged for ice! When I asked the waitress about it, she said it was because I had ordered a double. I was shocked. Despite this, I still left a $5 tip. I'm not sure if this "ice charge" is some kind of upcharge or if I was just singled out, but if I had known, I would've saved the ice from my first drink--or better yet, I wouldn't have ordered a drink here at all. That's definitely something the staff should disclose upfront: "Hey, we charge $2 per drink for ice." Needless to say, I won't be drinking here again. read more

This place is beyond unprofessional. The drinks are weak & overpriced and they up-charge drinks without disclosing hidden fees to customers. People are selling drugs outside and doing coke in the bathroom. The mother daughter team...they enjoy harassing customers they don't like. My fiancé and I came to the bar on a Sunday around 11:30 am for a celebratory drink. We ordered from Mike, old OG who made us laugh. We were minding our own business when Alicia and Rhea came in to start their day shift. I got screamed at by the Rhea while I was just minding my own business. Hadn't been in there for 7 months after my fiancé wrote a critically constructive review about her up-charging for a Moscow mule. She commented very loudly in front of all the customers about the the yelp review. Clearly she is not open to feedback and becoming a better bartender! The mom, Alicia had her back and raised her voice at me as well. Again I had already paid the previous bartender and was just finishing my drink, getting ready to leave. The daughter again targeted me, yelled at me calling me a bitch and told me to get the eff out (in front of all the customers). Clearly out of control with her own emotions and devoid of common human decency. Her face turned red and it wouldn't have surprised me if she would have jumped over the bar to try and fight me. She's a bully. She's totally out of pocket. Next, Alicia grabbed my fiancés drink, which we already paid for from the previous bartender, dumped it and told him to leave. For what???? Writing a yelp review months prior about her unprofessionalism??? They both should lose their jobs from this kind of behavior. Everyone should know what kind of bartenders they are and realize how toxic and low energy they are when they get called out for being unprofessional about up-charges. So they up charge me 2.00 for a Kroger ginger beer in a Moscow Mule . I thought ginger beer comes with the drink already, na not at this place. So the bartender Rhea was piss off an had an attitude about the situation and told her mother which we forgot her name , she is the bar manager at the interlude & had the audacity to have an argument about the ginger beer up charge stating that her daughter was correct !!! . My girlfriend is a bartender in the industry and they will never up charge a customer 2.00 for Kroger ginger beer. Back to argument I was quiet and the mom was just going off about the situation so I just got up & left... will never come back to this place ever again . A classic dive experience, best place to come escape for a minute. They have pool (only 50¢ a game!) and darts if you are so inclined. Bartenders Raya and Alisa are absolute legends who bring this place from a standard dive to a gem worth visiting. Came out here to meet up with some buddies a while back. Location - Not too far from CSULB and kinda hidden in the complex. Parking - At night they have plenty of parking. Drinks - Good pours and decent selection. Food - None but the employees sometimes bring food and allow for anyone to eat. Venue - Small lil place and dated but chill spot. I recently went to this bar with my boyfriend. There was only one other person in the bar aside from us. The older bleach blonde bartender had been playing music on the Touch Tunes. I wanted to play music as well, using the Touch Tunes coins that I paid money for, to play my music after. My music consisted of rap music, and the other gentleman in there with us didn't mind at all. After about 30 seconds of my first song, the bleach blonde older bartender woman walked over to the Touch Tunes box, UNPLUGGED the Touch Tunes and said it was by mistake and happened while she was trying to refill the pens next to the lotto papers. The rest of the time we were in there she was attempting to "restart" the Touch Tunes and we ended up leaving after one drink. Terrible service and terrible attitude. read more

Very rude I came in to meet my wife who is handicapped. I got to the bar first. I went in and used the restroom then my wife call and said she was in the parking lot and needed help. So on my way out the bartender said thank you and restroom was for customer only he was very rude. I turned and told him I was going to help my handicapped wife but since he was rude then we were not going to be customers. I have been coming for for all of my friend's 21st birthdays over past six years. We had our friends celebration of life at this bar as well. When I returned yesterday I was refused service because the bartender believed my out of state ID was fake. We have three friends that have moved to Arizona and we had legitimate IDs. I offered to show here my business card/car license plate which proves I live out of state and she just told me my ID was fake but wouldn't take it when I asked why don't you take it and call the cops. The bartender refused service to our entire group showing the obvious lack of personableness with her recurring customers. Seems the bartender only caters to the groups she feels like serving, seem a bit lazy and drunk when speaking to me. I've came to this place a couple of times and only enjoyed it during the beginning hours of the bar opening. Going into the bar during late night hours it seems to me that the bartender and some of its drunken guests create an uncomfortable welcoming towards those not looking over the age of 50 (especially if you're of color) . I'm not a very sociable, extroverted person. In fact I just plain don't like most of the people I meet (I probably wouldn't like you either my captivated reader). That's not to say I harbor anyone any ill will or wish a life of hardships on them or even to say that I am better than everyone (I probably am though), it's just that I find the company of most people to be terribly grating and unpleasant. That's what makes this a great bar for me. I can show up with a couple of friends and generally not be bothered and muddled down by the unwelcome volleys of idle pleasantries so often offered by some uninteresting socialite trying to make some new friends to add to their Myspace profile. I like being able to go in, put a couple bucks in the jukebox, make some selections that I am sure will ruin the mood of the Bob Marley, Sublime loving drunkards who will no doubt be in attendance, then grab some popcorn, a drink and a table and just kick back enjoying the fact that I am not hearing whatever crappy dance floor hit is playing everywhere else. I even like the way the bartender acts like I am asking her to do something completely out of the job description when I order a drink. Rarely too crowded and, unlike many other places around LB, not likely to run into a group of people you kind of know, but don't like enough to go out with and then are forced to forge some type of awkward union for the evening because inevitably each party will respectively have one person who is utterly blitzed and insists that it would be a great idea for everyone to hang out. Very rarely do I walk in this place, and when I have, the bar staff and the customers who come in after a hard day are indeed friendly. Most of the staff are super awesome and kind, except for one of the female bartenders. Her husband is kind but the wife is absolutely RUDE. It's not 'her' bar, her booze or her party and she should maintain professionalism at all times! The mood and attitude and how bartenders interact with guests is critical. I'm sure the owner or a professional bartender would have handled the situation diplomatically and professionally! read more

I'm not much of a reviewer but today roughly around 11pm I came to the interlude to have a few drinks with my family and girlfriend. Before getting the night started there, I went to use the restroom and as I was exiting the bar to get my family, a bartender which seemed to not be doing her job made a remark towards me. She said "are you looking for the restroom" after knowingly I had used it. Without any context or knowing that I had the intentions of quickly coming back in, she then said, "you don't belong here anyways". It's a shame that I in my 23 years of my young life have not run into any type of incident like this. I'm not too bothered to be honest but laugh more at her and this pooooor bar. Good luck to the owners and the lady bartender inside. Without a doubt, they'll last a couple more years before their closure. My friend came here once and his id expired recently so it got rejected which is fair enough and when he came back with his new paperwork/temporary id she gave us all shots for her apology. Literally a couple weeks later the same woman was there and she said "no I can't accept paperwork only real cards" ... his card is being sent so he only has a temporary ID that is from the dmv??? I've never heard of a bar that doesn't accept official AND legal temporary ID's and ASKS HIM TO LEAVE like wtf??? This just shows customer service isn't the same read more

My first one star review. Used to be a fan. A dive bar to be sure. Strong drinks, darts, good jukebox. Rude bartenders. Really rude bartenders. Like walk right past you while locking eyes and no one else around rude. Used to be kinda funny. However; the kitsch factor has worn off. I brought a friend of mine from England in last night with both of our ladies and per usual we all were carded when we walked in. I went straight for the jukebox and dropped a $20 in (yes I am that much of a music snob). However it appears music won't be necessary because the bouncer won't accept my buddies' passport as valid ID. A document that lets you into other COUNTRIES isn't considered valid because they can't "swipe" it in their machine. Now if we were 22 year old girls with no other forms of ID and nervous twitchy glances I would understand. However, the entire group of four was pushing 30! This is a UK passport FULL of visas and stamps from his relentless travel to the US, and they refused to look at it because they can't SWIPE it? "What did you do pre-SWIPE machines?" He had a wallet full of other IDs including a driver's license and they still would not look at anything they can't swipe. So because they are teetering on losing their liquor license for catering to underage floozies and giving the stinky toothless guy one too many, a legit patron is assed out? I had a bouncer in my face, a crusty career drunk frothing to get into the conversation, and a Jurassic bartender dropping "science" on me. I was having a horrible day yesterday so my friend and I went out. First we went to the new pub/restaurant The Tilted Kilt. WE SHOULD HAVE STAYED THERE! When we got to the Interlude which I have been 2 before but I'm not a regular nor do I go there often & after this experience I will never go there again. The bartender was so mean she almost made me cry & she was also rude to my friend. She apparently had better things to do than bartend like play darts. I think her problem was that she is an older lady (a smoker) & I'm a young good looking girl. I was the sober driver so I didn't drink anything & I'm glad they didn't get any of my business. She had a major problem with the fact that I brought in a water bottle. No problem I'll put it in my purse or car and you can get me a water don't have a shit fit.
