Have been here off and on for probably a decade. Started coming here as it was a Dive Bar with cheap drinks and usual vibe. My good friend who owned it then was forced out by local bar group with whom property mgr 'conspired'. Still cool, higher prices than similar places in the area, especially juke box. They did do a great job on remodeling both bathrooms, which were desperately needed it. No pool table, there is a golf machine and Lotto machine. Pro tip: parking can be tricky. Street parking across the street can work. read more

Ive heard of this place and finally decided we would give it a shot. Its a small place but we found two seats at the end of the bar. We met the owner, who is a Steelers fan, so that worked out with my girlfriend. The man at the helm poured some damn good drinks and they were overall terrific. They have a scratcher machine and we decided to have a little fun while enjoying good drinks. We look forward to the day we can go in and day drink and play more scratchers and win next time. read more

Stopped in for a drink after eating at Marri's Pizza a few doors down. This wasn't my first visit to Poor Dick's by any means as I've come through at various times with friends during the last two decades. Tonight I got a bottle of Coors Light and OMG it was so refreshing and ICE COLD!!! Wow. So good. Delightful. I then noticed the beer fridge and it said it was 27°! Pretty reasonable too for drinks out at a bar, especially considering these days. Our tab total was $12 for the 2 drinks. $4 for the beer and $8 for the Captain and Coke. read more

Once upon a time, we fell into Poor Richard's. It is a local watering hole. They bartenders are cool and the atmosphere very casual. A day drinker's paradise! The prices are good. You can order food from next door and they will deliver it to you! A great little nook to hang out. Seems the place has been here forever. Sure glad they made it beyond the pandemic! Absolute shithole. And I've bartended dives before. And I say that with more sincerity than just a customer. I was assaulted outside the bar by patrons who I had no issue with, or previous interaction. The bar was of no help in locating them, although the bartender told the police they had come in before. If the owner reads this, send me a message, because I have some very distinct features now from that night, and I have told the story all over town. I went here once when I was 21 with my parents. Let's just say, it was the most awkward experience ever! It's literally an old people bar. Everybody who goes here are 50+ it's a small bar that only has beer. I don't think they have a pool table or really anything to do besides listen to old classic music and drink beer. Thanks to my good friends Melissa and Matt I've been welcomed into the secret society known as POOR RICHARD'S. And since I'm usually "poor" $3.00 drinks make it possible for me to have a social life. The decor is classic dive bar style. Semi-dark lighting, darts, and a digital juke box that usually plays Air Supply when our friend Vegas is there. Geneva or bartender is a woman to be respected and appreciated. If your not a drunk asshole she'll serve them strong and she'll keep them coming. Proceed with caution, the drinks are not only cheap but made with copious amounts of alcohol. Sure beats any AA meeting. It is literally a ten to twenty minute walk away from my house, depending on the amount of pre-drinking that was done beforehand. 2. $3 wells that are poured hot and stiff by super welcoming bartenders. 3. It's the kind of place where you can be drunk off your ass, spill your drink all over the bar, be really loud, and no one will judge wou, like no one. 4. Opens at 6 a.m. 5. Simone's donuts is right next door and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week....and SImone's donuts are unquestionably the best drunk donuts in Long Beach if that category were to exist. This is a true dive bar, like a dive bar's dive bar. The clientele ranges from drunk ass college students, to your neighbors that are normally pulling their gaggle of kids around in a wagon on your sidewalk, to the handful of regulars who seem to have not left their bar stool for the last ten years or since the bar was open, whichever came first. They have everything it takes to make a great dive bar: bar games, jukebox, loud music, small bathrooms, and stiff cheap drinks. I love it here! A lot of people I know hate this place, as if they expect some amazing Vegas-looking bar.. but for me, when money is tight (or even when its not) and i'm looking for a low-key place to drink, Poor Richards never fails to satisfy! My friends in the South Bay introduced me to this small, off-the-radar watering hole about 3 years ago. Although trendy is the last thing I would say about this neighborhood bar, it does it's job nicely. The mostly female bartenders are unpretentious and at your service, pouring drinks only those with tremendous constitutions can imbibe. Most of the customers are local, and have some connections with the aerospace industry (next time you fly, contemplate this). In particular, a certain regular "Jim" (quite a raconteur) will greet you and encourage your alcohol intake. If this bar was in Hollywood it would be filled with low brow celebrities, you would never be able to get in. I come here to escape that snide scene. read more

WHERE DO I START??? I love dive bars so when I drove by this place I had to stop and check it out. When I started to ask the bartender for a beer she interrupted me and asked for my I.D. When I handed it to her it fell behind the bar and she glared at me. After about a minute of her staring at me as though she expected me to jump behind the bar and pick up my I.D for her, she finally picked it up. She then asked what I wanted to drink but all they had was domestic and to top it off, the beer was warm. I left my beer there, did not tip her and decided I'd never go back. Poor Richard's... pretty much your local dive bar and I do mean local and I do mean dive. Admittedly, I have been going there for a number of years and I suppose that would make me a local. Please don't misunderstand me when I say local. I don't mean local in the sense that everyone is eyeballing you because it's your first time in there. The patrons are friendly enough and the bartenders are friendly, but you have to get past the, "I just walked past a green door and stepped into the dark ages" feeling that you get. My opinion is, any bar that opens at 6AM and doesn't serve food, is probably always going to be considered a dive bar. Drinks are reasonably priced, the bartenders know how to make a pretty good drink and can do up shots if you're in the mood. Beers are cold and did I mention it opens at 6AM? As Craig K. added in his review there's a couple of local places you can get food and eat on your barstool if you like. Jukebox seems to be pretty standard download stuff that you see in most pubs/taverns. Basically, this is an okay place to grab a drink or two before you head out to your next venue, however nothing is holding you back from drinking three or four and there are times when the three or four turns into three or four hours. The place can get busier on Friday and Saturday nights, however overall there is nothing extraordinary about this bar. read more
