Note: They are closed on Mondays. I ordered take out and I've dined in many times. The food was always consistent and good. For takeout I usually order the sushi lunch special. It comes with 6 pieces sushi and 1 California roll plus salad for about $10 tax included. I tried various foods dining in. Including the stuff squid, which was ok. I thought just plain squid taste better without the stuffing inside. I had one of their ramen and it wasn't as good as some of the ramen joints in the city. It lacked flavor but it wasn't terrible. They have A, B, C, D, E combos. So far I had combo A and it comes with 8 sushi and 2 rolls and combo B and it comes with 4 of their best selling rolls. So I've noticed this place but never went in there until recently this year. I ordered a the garlic chaasu tonkatsu ramen and I was pleasantly surprised. The broth was rich and flavorful, it smelled awesome, although the pork was not as tender as I thought, it was still decent. I was happy - finally a ramen place walking distance from my house. I came back later with my friend from out of town, thinking she'll enjoy this. We ordered the food and the yakisoba was super greasy, the ramen broth taste water down. It wasn't horrible but I was disappointed. Few months later, I decided to give it another try. It wasn't as good as the first time. Would've given this a three star if it were more consistent. I've passed by this small restaurant many times without walking in but my bf suggested that we finally give this place a try today. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed because I have higher expectations when it comes to food. However, this place is not bad in terms of location and price. There aren't many Japanese restaurants around Bensonhurst to begin with (I'm not talking about the sushi places, I'm referring to "authentic" Japanese food with takoyaki, donburi, etc etc) We ordered the takoyaki, three rolls for $11 and a miso ramen. Ramen here is not bad. It's not your Ippudo or Hide-Chan Ramen but it's pretty decent for $9 a bowl. Broth was somewhat rich although I question it's "creaminess" a bit...and the noodles were smooth but a bit limp. Like I said - there really are no other places in Bensonhurt with "authentic" ramen unless you want the cheap packet ramen from the grocery market. This place definitely does not use that but it's honestly not a dish that I would say "WOW this ramen is amazing!" or maybe it's because I've been to many ramen shops and have a higher standard for ramen. Same with takoyaki here. It's tasty and cost efficient at $4 for 6 takoyaki balls. They are slightly crunchier on the outside than your usual takoyaki and more flour on the inside with less octopus (think teeny tiny octopus bits). You can't really taste the octopus but it's there. Worth the money but don't expect to be in awe either. Finally, a warning to everyone who intends to visit...do NOT get the regular sushi rolls here! If you want sashimi and sushi then pretty please go down the street (about two blocks) and visit Fugu Sushi because as I mentioned, this place specializes in Japanese dishes not sushi/rolls. The rolls I ordered was the crunchy crab, crazy salmon and the lobster roll. There was no lobster in my lobster roll but I expected that because it was "three regular rolls for $11". The crunchy crab was probably the most disappointing. The name of the roll is not only misleading but it's just the fake crab stick rolled with crunchy flakes and cucumber. That's it. Worst than a california roll IMO because at least I get avocado in a cali roll which makes the roll slightly worth more in value. Crazy salmon is similar to spicy salmon...they use tidbits of raw salmon which is fine but it was sub-par at best. All in all, good place to try out if you're looking for a new experience. Came here years ago and was extremely disappointed in the food. Recently my sister in law brought me ramen take out from here and it was really good. They sure have improved a lot. I arrived at the restaurant with a group of 4 at approximately 6:30, but was not seated until 7:15 (maybe even 7:20). This wait was to be expected because of our large group, but others were seated before us, and our wait time was pushed back not once, but trice. The host at the front was extremely rude and had a look of bother whilst telling us "only 5 more minutes".. We ended up waiting for at least another 15. Not only that, he pitilly tossed a lone chair outside mid-wait, as if that could make it better. Instead of respectfully calling us inside, like any well trained host would do, he knocked harshly on the glass window. We were horrified by the brashness of the staff, but decided to walk in anyway, as we had already paid for the parking meter. After ordering the Sashimi Boat (mediocre at best), Best Seller, Okonomiyaki, Stuffed Squid with Crab (the squid was so chewy that I could not stand it and had to spit it out in a tissue) and Shinjuku Chicken Wings, the waiters repeated asked us if we wanted the check mid-eat. There weren't any new customers at the door, yet they expected us to leave after a mere half hour. I expected the food to be ridiculously inexpensive (it was not), yet delightful (it was not), as proposed by many users on Yelp. Misled by reviews claiming Longevousjoy to be the new "sensation", I was not only tricked, but also highly disappointed. Do not be deceived- the pictures make the food appear delectable, but I would not be surprised if I ended up with food poisoning. It was DEFINITELY NOT worth the wait; and I SHOULD NOT have had to tolerate the waiter's/host's horrendous attitude. I am so confused how I feel about this place. Their food was always delicious and fresh, their customer service has always been just eh. (Never an ounce of enthusiasm from the server, so I haven't come here for a while.) Yesterday I came back here after a year. I was having lunch with my boyfriend and we were chatting, when someone in the kitchen (the server, the cook, SOMEONE!) started coughing really loudly and clearing phlegm from their throat. It sounded as if someone was throwing up back there. It was the most repulsive sound I've ever heard and me and my boyfriend stopped talking and looked at each other in shock and disgust. Located deep into Brooklyn, this little Japanese restaurant isn't easily accessible with subway and the name itself (oh so fobby Chinese) wouldn't register "good Japanese food in here!"....but there was and plenty of it. Lucky me, friends with cars brought me to Longesvousjoy last night for my bday. Have to admit, I was a bit hesitant at first, but was soon corrected. As fatties with poor memory of our lowered metabolism and acid reflux, we ordered to satiate our 20 yo selves in 30 yo bodies. Sashimi! Sushi rolls! Fried oysters! Raw oysters! Ramen! A collective of overindulgence piled atop our table and we feasted. Unfortunately, after a night of karaoke and a tad of vodka, I can't remember every detail of our order. Small restaurant. Can maybe sit 30-40 people max. Do not bother coming here with your group of 6+, or you're going to have a bad time. The food was impressive for its price. The sashimi was all fresh tasting, and well presented. The sushi rolls did not hold back on the fish. I found it slightly off putting that we don't get to see the chefs, and that everything comes out of the kitchen. Again, lack of space, but it's probably best not to know whats going on to make that food good... I'm assuming management knows it serves good food/fish, so their attitude is something to put up with. They definitely do not want you inside if your party is not all present (makes sense, since they're so small in space already). If you speak excellent/polite cantonese, it's likely you'll get favored better. This is not a place for you to chat for the first 5-15 minutes, taking photos to put up on instagram/facebook. You'll be badgered to leave so that they can take someone else's business. This is not a place for you to feel stuffed, because they'll still badger you to leave, so that they can be can make more money. Heavy on money making attitude. Note1: Be mindful of your plate. If you're eating, say you're still eating and stop them from taking away your plate. They're only trying to be professional and clean up without interrupting your conversation. I think they could use some work on that, but it's not bad I guess. No, why did I come here? I had the chashu ramen...it had one fatty chewy old piece of pork fat (why? because it tasted like stale fat) and two sad grey looking slices of pork. The soup was an oily mess. The noodles were awful as well. Don't come here, just make the trip to a good place. read more

Let's start with the bad service once we walked in. Told us to just sit down at the table. It was extremely cold that day and the table was by the door, so we wanted another table. Seeing customers from another table leaving, we asked if we could sit there instead. The guy by the counter/cash register was giving us an attitude, saying well you gotta let us clean it first. We just asked if we could sit at that table, we know you have to clean it, we wouldn't want to sit at a dirty table anyways. When we moved towards that table, we were like scolded not to sit yet. Now that that's aside, let's talk about the food. I have to be fair, despite that guy's bad welcome, the fish and food were fresh and on point. We ordered the tako wasabi, takoyaki, sashimi special, Hokkaido bowl, and best seller combo. The tako wasabi was okay with a strong wasabi taste, so if wasabi is something you like, that's your choice. You can put the tako on seaweed and wrap it to eat. The takoyaki tasted a lot better than I expected it probably because it was the only food that was hot/warm. (It was so good we ordered another one towards the end.) I really liked best seller combo, $12 for 4 rolls and also because I love the spicy salmon and scallops spread over two of the rolls. The other two rolls were just regular plain rolls. But the scallop overruled. The sashimi special was fresh, everything was fresh from shrimp to salmon to scallop to the uni. And for the amount of food in that special, $21 was a good price. The Hokkaido bowl was more fresh fish served in a bowl with seaweed over another bowl of rice. Once again the uni and scallops were really fresh and had this nice fresh sweetness to it. Overall I loved the food here and I said I would come back again for sure. Hopefully the waiters will be more welcoming and nicer next time around. Hesitated coming to this place because I read lots of reviews saying the customer service was bad. The service wasn't bad at all. In fact, the food was very affordable. Bill came out to be ~$80. Ordered the chilli fries, three-way salmon (spicy salmon, fried salmon, fresh salmon), tonkatsu ramen, uni, and octopus stuffed with crab. My favorite was the octopus dish; the addition of seaweed paste increased the level fragrant. Wish the exterior was more grilled/char. The salmon was very fresh and cheap ($22). However, they should've put oil-absorbing paper under the fried salmon. The noodles of the ramen was cooked perfectly, comparable to ramen shops in Manhattan. The soup, though, was heavily lacking the in depth umami flavor. The worst dish was the uni ($12). Said it is from Japan but the color is so dark as if it's aged. Didn't like the taste and the uni smell was too strong. All in all, this place is affordable and I will come back again for the octopus and maybe try some other ramen. read more

I usually don't venture out to Brooklyn but I've seen fellow co-workers check in here multiple times so i must know what the hype is about too, right? So i was very pleasantly surprised at the level of freshness that all the food had here. First off, we had scallops which were so fresh! It literally melted in my mouth! Also, i had this really delicious beer that i would definitely recommend if you come. The sea urchin is phenomenal as well and i usually do not eat this, but i it was very flavorful and i surprisingly enjoyed the taste with the cucumber. There are these mango rolls that are the special this month and they accompany fish like salmon and tuna in which my companions tried and liked. This restaurant is Japanese with a slight twist to the rolls and how they present their food. Now i know why my co-workers come and would love to come again soon! They also have housemade ramen in here in which i did not have a chance to try but there will be a next time! The only recommendation i would make is perhaps make a menu that wasn't as cluttered- several pages of menu would be better to present the various options they had which were pretty extensive! Both very good and fresh, but was not impressed with their kani salad. Take out special is 4 rolls for 12$ including fried oyster roll (my personal favorite), spicy scallop, spicy salmon, lobster roll, and a couple others. This place is a far cry from the amazing Japanese places in the city, Kenka's included. I'd rather wait in the cold for an hour for a seat at Kenka's than have to eat the ramen here. I've had ramen in most places in the city and in Jersey, where there is a larger Japanese community as compared to the Chinese largely found in Brooklyn. There is a big difference in Japanese and Chinese cuisine, and this place is certainly more of the latter. I say this because, authentic Japanese ramen is heavenly! I felt like I was being held for an idiot when I served al dente Barilla pasta in some canned soup broth. The only redeeming factor was the pork. Don't call it ramen if it isn't ramen! The broth was this odd milky color, which ramen does have when it is properly made, and all the delicious fats create a thick meaty broth. This was like someone added corn starch, sesame oil and possibly evaporated milk to powdered meat broth and called it a day. Chinese soups are fantastic as well, but this soup was like some Asian-American caricature of what ramen should be. If you want amazing ramen, go to the city or even take a trip to Mitsuwa in Jersey for a bowl of quality soup. Next: The service was grade F- After ordering the chili fries, which were to come with TWO types of sauce, as pictured in the menu and across yelp, came to our table with only ONE sauce, a mayo. When the waiter was confronted he barked back that there is ONE and ONLY ONE SAUCE, and that there is no such thing as a second sauce. The Tako Yaki were also disappointing. Food is typical for a Japanese restaurant (not run by Japanese people.) Can't remember anything about the first two visits. But the last, I came here with one person and we were stunned. I ordered the chirashi bowl, without sesame seeds due to an allergy. Chirashi is a bowl of rice with pieces of sashimi on top. Of course, it happens often where places mess up and bring sushi with sesame seeds on top of all the fish. Except here, the waiter had to get some woman, who came over, asked what's wrong and screamed "OMG !!!!" And grabbed the bowl from in front of me, ran in the kitchen and was screaming in there. As I wait a few minutes without food, no return of the woman or anything. Then she walks by and I ask what's going on and only then did she grab the menu, shove it at me, and tell me I have to order something else as they ran out of all fish. Really???? Decent sushi earned them three stars and the price point earned them another. Combo B is only 11$ and gets you 4 rolls - pretty good if you ask me! The sushi is nothing too extraordinary but leaves you satisfied. They are generous with the spicy scallop spread, which was appreciated. My first time was with my boyfriend and his family. We decided to try it since we lived nearby and it was new. It's pretty dark inside but that's the ambience they're trying to set. The customer service was subpar. Could've been a lot better. That's really all I can say about it since they weren't rude to us or anything. One thing I loved at this restaurant was their fries. They had a wasabi taste to them and it was so addicting to eat. I'm really into wasabi flavored fries so it was nice. Their squid/calamari was delicious too, but the entrees had nothing "wow" about them. I'm giving this review 4 stars on their appetizers. I guess they had me with that. Price point is average. I used to go there a lot more often when they first opened back in 2011, they served such good food at great prices, since there's no other Japanese restaurant in the area that served specialty Japanese dishes like they do. But I have to admit that even though the owner was a friend's friend, we were always greeted with the worst attitude. I love the food so I sucked it up and still ate there often, since it's two blocks from where I used to live and I started advertising for them as my "cafeteria" on Facebook. Their salmon set is the biggie on the menu, you get salmon sashimi, salmon sushi, salmon teriyaki and salmon rolls, all for $20. It's super fresh, very tasty, nobody could beat that. They do very interesting appetizers too, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, seasoned sweet potato fries, fried squid bellies, etc. You name it. And they constantly update their menu throughout the years, I love their sushi with uni, ikura and ika all together, sometimes topped with scallops. I stopped going after some of our friends left the business, I believe the chef changed, the host changed and servers all left. I ordered a dinner cater over the New Year's weekend for my dad's birthday, which consisted of all the big sets with a lot of sashimi, sushi and specialty rolls, the host was very nice, he let me take a picture of the menu since they had no take-out menus printed at the moment, he also suggested that I call ahead of time, so I did and when I got there about 20 mins late, they had everything prepared and ready for me. Gyoza: Giant pork dumplings pan fried "japanese style." These dumplings are twice the size of the ones in japan. They serve it with the bottom crepe layer from the pan over the dumplings. It was interesting since I couldn't tell what it was when it was brought to the table. These dumplings don't come with a sauce (what?!) so you can just use the soy sauce they have on the table for your sushi. The dumplings were pretty good. Handrolls: At $2.50 each with so many choices, this might be your best bet. My friend had the eel avocado hand roll and said it was ok. I tried the salmon skin hand roll that was featured and it was crunchy and flavorful however, too much eel sauce overwhelmed the whole thing. HOLD Back on the sauce please! Stuffed squid: Hot crab meat is a bad idea. That's exactly what you'll be getting in the middle of the broiled calamari- a load of shredded crab meat mixed with tobiko and mayo (exact thing in a kani salad minus the cucumbers). There are two bits of asparagus in each as well. Most recommended by previous reviews but it lacked texture and taste. I picked out the middle and just ate the calamari. Special california roll: There's about 3-4 times the amount of crab meat in this than the regular california roll (same stuff as in the stuffed squid but cold of course). Too much crab meat makes the whole roll unbalanced to me but my friend like it. Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen: pork broth tasted like an instant noodle packet of soup base was added on to the bland broth in an attempt to spice it up; char sui was tough; bbq chicken was burnt; noodle was room temperature; broth was minimal and luke warm. The broth is the most important and expensive ingredient in a good bowl of ramen. It requires plenty of hours and attention from the chef. Obviously the goal here is to only provide a poor imitation to add variety to their menu. Note: I asked for hot sauce and our waiter came back with the small bottle of japanese hot pepper flakes and told me they don't have hot sauce. How can a restaurant that serve spicy ramen not have hot sauce?? How can you make spicy tuna rolls if you don't have hot sauce to blend with your mayo? How can you post 5 specials on the wall claiming spicy and tell a customer you don't have hot sauce?? I just don't get this place.. Total waste of time - don't bother. read more

This is a place that I had never heard of, but my cousin wanted to come try their ramen. Funny thing is, we didn't order any ramen and only had their sushi. Go figure! Solid ramen place, price point is not too high, comfortable atmosphere. Beware the owners and cooks are both chinese. The flavors are excellent but they definitely have a chinese profile. I had the spicy fish ramen and the tonkatsu ramen, both were well done and well portioned. read more

The salmon sushi meal was really fresh which made it taste really good and yummy. The stuffed squid was pretty good too, definitely worth the try. The fries was alright. Overall, I would go back for the salmon sushi meal and stuff squid. read more

I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. It's definitely come a long way from last year. Longevousjoy really satisfies those fried food cravings. Their kaki fry is good and the lollipop chicken is excellent. It's basically fried chicken but it's not at all oily and the breading is delicious. Don't know how they get it like that. They serve it with this tangy ginger sauce on the side, which is great. The seafood udon is also tasty. I just wish they would cook it with a little less sauce but the seafood in it is really fresh. Squid, large shrimp, scallops I think, and I can't remember what else. Chewy udon noodles. Their ramen is kind of weird. I forget which one my husband ordered but the broth looked milky. Have never seen a milky ramen broth before. I had a taste and it seemed ok but he said it was fishy despite it having been a meat ramen. Their sushi is much improved. The regular rolls are fresh but they still could go a ways in terms of not over-saucing their special rolls. The sauce is creamy and doesn't belong in sushi. It belongs in something like kani salad. Overall, happy that this place is in our neighborhood. read more
