After a visit for Sunday brunch, I can say that their food is fine enough, but I don't at all feel compelled to return to Linda's Tavern any time soon. So, the food. The brunch menu is pretty decent, with breakfast standards and an impressive section of Mexican/Tex-Mex options. I was THIS close to getting migas, but at the last minute changed up my order to blueberry pancakes with bacon and eggs. Again, they were fine. Perfectly solid representations of basic breakfast food, but I did regret not getting something a bit more interesting. Drinks were a whole thing. Their coffee is pretty bad, but they were on the ball with refills. We got a pitcher of blackberry mimosas for only $20, which is a great deal! If I were to return, it'd be for the mimosas. The rest of the drink menu is just pretty odd. Two guys at our table went against their better judgement and ordered a drink that was literally vodka mixed with Emergen-C. It was as gross as that sounds. And Mountain Dew + vodka doesn't seem like something I'd want to drink, either. A whole lot of kitch, and not a lot of substance. Service was alright. I mentioned that they were on top of it with coffee. Unfortunately, beyond that they were pretty absent. We were there for over 2 hours, which is ridiculous. Every step of the process was so slow, and the staff seemed aloof. I don't understand servers who don't have some sense of urgency, considering they work for tips. This place thoroughly amused me. I think the urban emaciated hipster grunge-cowboy look is my favorite now. Forget this whole rockabilly thing where dudes who have never been on a motorcycle but wear the jackets and have a cup of shortening in their hair. These cowboy types slay me. The thing that came to mind was characters from the movie Six String Samurai. Post apocalyptic cowboy hipsters are too awesome. I've come to Linda's many times before and it's always been and amazing experience. However, today was the complete oposite. We tried to get the servers attention for about 40mins and once she finally saw us waving at her she gave us a nasty look and completely ignored us and walked away. After she continued to serve the boot next to ours. I finally manager to get the male servers attention and he tells me the kitchen had closed just a few minutes before... Linda's is one of those places i've always avoided in Seattle, not only because it was a favorite of an ex-gf, but also because it tends to attract the same scensters as the cha cha, only slightly more strung out. And then I'll have to wait a while before I can ride it home. That's how much Linda's rules. You come here for a night of drinking, saying "Nah, I won't drink too much. This place does remind me of Idaho, a little. There are the various stuffed animal heads and lots of wood decor, but where are the hicks? Oh yes, they have been replaced by hipsters. I don't know which I prefer. I was here for a going away party of sorts with my GF who seemed to know everyone. I'm still fairly new to the Yelp scene, so I was a little out of my element but I still had a good time chatting it up with my fellow yelpers. I got to know a couple of them better and had some good conversation. This place is kind of small but they have an outside area in the back with a bar and smoking area, for that I had to add another star! They even had Fat Tire on Tap, my favorite, but I switched it up and had a couple of Manny's. This place must be quite popular as it was packed and a little hard to move around in but we managed. A few of us decided we weren't ready for our evening to end, so after leaving the cramped Living Room bar space we headed over to Linda's, which provided much more room along with a much broader selection. This was a great step up in terms of bar quality, for me, even though from all appearances it definitely didn't look like the kind of place I would frequent. The first thing I noticed here was a pretty nice draft list along with a lot of bottles to choose from as well. Right away this won some bonus points with me, as I had yet to make it over to Brouwer's to sample their beer selection and I was really craving a good pint. All the usual big name craft brewers (not quite an oxymoron yet) suspects are here, like Stone, Rogue, and Lagunitas, but there are some smaller great quality beers by Firestone and others as well, and of course the obligatory fratty favorites that end in some variation of Lite (sold by the pitcher). I was thrilled to find Stone's Smoked Porter, one of the best in that style, on draft, but it was nice trying some of the sort of local Ninkasi brews as well, as they aren't available where I live. Unfortunately we had just missed the late night happy hour, a pretty great iteration that runs from 7-9PM, allowing you to extend one happy hour somewhere else into a continuously happy night. The beer prices were still pretty reasonable though, especially compared to what I'm used to in DC, which I'm guessing helps fuel the large volume of customers here, as this bar as really packed. We hung out in the main bar area for a bit, but the real fun was had outside in the open air beer garden. The staff outside was just as courteous and timely as the bartenders inside, and we never had to wait very long for a refill. This felt very much like a neighborhood bar and even though I'm not from here it was still welcoming. I made a note in my draft review that there was a really cool crown here. I'm not really sure what that means, and it's likely a tipsy typo for crowd, but part of me wants to hope that somewhere at Linda's is a bejeweled headpiece just waiting for me to claim. read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for Linda's, considering I've gone here probably about a million and one times. Anyway, there's not really much I can say that hasn't been said before, except that Linda's is probably MY favorite bar in all of Seattle. It's just a nice, relaxed place with a great patio, an awesome jukebox, a pool table, and cool decor. You can check your pretension at the door because they offer something for everybody and anyone is welcome. I have three words to describe how delicious Linda's is for happy hour..."Slider, Slider, Slider." For three bucks you get three of the most deliciously magical little hamburgers. What is it that makes these burgers taste so good? I don't know how they do it, they just do, so don't question it, plop down your 3 bucks and have at it. They'll cushion the blow of the drinks you'll consume later that night, and they'll leave you with enough cash to consume a few more than usual. Yes, if I lived in Seattle, Linda's would get me for happy hour between 7 and 9 far more often than this gal needs to be consuming red meat. People are pretty here and usually come in football team-sized parties. For reals. Our little party of 3 was the odd-man-out dinky one that night. But it's cool, there's plenty of little booths for parties like ours, in amongst the bigger parties. Service was relatively attentive, although if you're a server, and your hands are free, and you're walking past our table where our empty pitcher is perched on the edge, it probably wouldn't take too much time to grab the pitcher, ask a quick "'nother?" and save a trip. Parking is a bit of a chore, so be prepared to drive around and around for awhile. But be patient. The sliders are way worth it. read more

This may seem really strange, considering the way I feel about the majority of the hipster hangouts on the Hill (yay for alliteration), but I LIKE Linda's. In a way, I think it's because the abundance of hunting art and taxidermy reminds me of the years I spent living in Idaho - a place where many a brewski was consumed in the shadow of an animal head. All the people who've said it's impossible to meet new people here make me feel like I'm just way too friendly or oddly blessed with an invisible "talk to me" sign. On my most recent trip here I did have a number of friends whom arrived before me and friends whom arrived after me, but I still managed to make some NEW friends. The crowd was actually very diverse and generally good-looking, but the drinks weren't great until I ordered a "tall". I think their main goal is to encourage you to order bigger drinks by rewarding you with more liquor (Hmmmm), as all my friends who had been drinking the tall drinks all night were pretty nicely buzzed and/or well on their way to blitzed. Third day in Seattle. Our host took us to Linda's Tavern for some drinks and this place KICKS ASS. I love bars with outdoor area and heat lamps. In fact, I toyed with the thought of getting my own heat lamps for my patio but decided that I probably can't afford the electric bill if I do own one. We came early so we got a really good table outside. It got really crowded later on, and some people actually starting to invade our table. I didn't mind sharing my bench though, my ass isn't THAT big. Or is it? After the greasy Linda's food, it probably will be. The reason why Linda's got 5 stars from me is because the bartender makes the BEST lemon drop and kamikaze shot E-V-A-R. Seriously. The only reason i give this place 4 stars and not 5 is because the bathroom is way to small... only one stall... BOOOO other then that!! i love the scene, lots of hipsters that seem to be lost in a ho-dunk kinda bar... i love it!!! it was crowded on a tuesday night, i can't even imagine what it would be like on a friday or saturday!! there was a place in the back outside to smoke and drink and they had heaters... My first experience here was......interesting..... I got several offers to go to the bathroom to engage in some "fun"....who knew Linda's back patio became a mini-Vegas!! But that happened back when smoking indoors was still legal, which was sooo long ago. Doesn't happen so much nowadays, so as Sean Connery said in The Rock, "Maybe I'm losing my sex appeal." One night, I stood outside Linda's front entrance looking for the flashing sign that said "Hipsters Especially Wanted!" Inside, it was flannel/tight jeans central, and I felt well out of place. My friend and I sat down, and we could barely hear each other because we were amidst a chatter of the current SAM exhibition, a critique of Portishead's greatest hits, all while sipping on gin and tonic fizzes. Yikes. To shake things up, I often hit up the jukebox and piss the audience off by blasting Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Coming" or Metallica's "Ride The Lightning." The looks I get - well, not the most evil, but it resembles a sort of a"You'd better switch to Modest Mouse or Arcade Fire IMMEDIATELY" look. The drinks are pretty standard, but that's not a bad thing. I am always able to find my Jameson, and they've got some decent beers on tap. For food, I've tried their burger and fries, so I can't offer any deep insights here. Linda's biggest assets are the happy hour, their back patio (not necessarily related to my story above ;-) ) that is really good for summer night gatherings, and the divey atmosphere that is most appropriate for a 21st birthday celebration. Often happy hour meet ups or Saturday brunch is picked solely by where there's a patio. Luckily Linda's has a patio, and a great vibe. Linda's is the perfect place to pop in for brunch on the weekend, grab a drink after work, or eat classic bar food with good friends and play pool. There's no frills to Linda's, and the women's bathroom mysteriously has two sinks, and only one bathroom stall. Why are there two sinks and only one toilet? I spotted a dog in Linda's Tavern. I was able to verify that they do allow dogs (preferably smaller ones, though well-behaved big dogs are welcome too). This is pretty cool, since Linda's is arguably one of the most popular watering holes on Capitol Hill. So a couple days later I brought my dog with me to meet a girlfriend for a beer (I highly recommend the Nitro Left Hand Milk Stout). Good breakfast for being on the patio of a bar! I liked the relaxed attitude, the breakfast was pretty decent (but the portion sizes were a little small), and the mimosa pitcher was perfect for a sunny Seattle morning. I probably wouldn't go here often, just because it's out of my way (I live in the U-District) and there are better breakfast places nearby, but if I ever find myself on Capitol Hill again, I would probably check it out. I remember being at Linda's last year during Halloween. The memory actually just came back as I was scanning the other reviews. It was good times and there were a lot of friendly people. Not sure what the difference was between the people on the patio and the people inside but I definitely got a friendlier vibe on the patio. I was dressed as a hippie. Not dirty. More like flower child. Anyway, I've been back a time here or there but this place never really stood out to me..until recently. I came here with Riss and Mitzie after finishing off a SIFF film at the Egyptian. There was some tummy rumbling and I just wanted to go to the closest place to put my hunger pains at ease. Linda's was a hop and skip, no jumping needed and we were there in seconds. I ordered the blue cheese bacon burger with onion rings. The one discomforting factor in my dining experience was the loud and grungy music playing while I tried to consume my little piece of heaven. It was 3 in the afternoon for freks sake...on a Sunday. Can we chill out please? The best blue cheese bacon burger I've had, ever. You may think that onion rings are a dime a dozen and for the most part you would be right but the onion rings here were delish! Sweet, crunchy and the actual onion stayed in place instead of slithering out when you bit into the ring. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be back for the food. I may just get it to go...I do not like being yelled at while eating, or at all really. Maybe I could convince them to turn down the volume a bit next time? We'll see.... read more

Linda's is a fun stop on a bar hopping night - I wouldn't usually hang out there for super long because it's always loud and packed and it can be slow to get drinks, but it's a fun place to hipster watch. If you like boys with beards and beanies, this is your place!! They also have a really big, nice patio, with a separate smoking section if you're trying to kill yourself. I frequent this place quite often (so much that the door guy doesn't bother checking my I.D. anymore). For some reason people associate this place with "scenesters" or "hipsters", whatever. But, I find that there is quite a diverse crowd at Linda's. It's the type of place you can go to in sweats or in a dress and feel equally as comfortable. The drinks are usually really strong. And the food is actually pretty good. I mean, it's not gourmet or anything, but in terms of "bar food", this place takes the cake. The back patio is my favorite spot on a sunny day, but it usually fills up pretty quickly, as does the inside on the weekends. So don't count on getting seats for 6....or even 2 sometimes. The happy hour is alright. It's from 7 to 9 which is kind of weird, but it works for me. I usually go to earlier happy hours and then end at Linda's. I do think they need better food options for happy hour. The sliders are cheaper for happy hour, but that's about it. All I can say is, I love this place. It may be the dead animal heads hanging from the walls or it might be because they have Minus the Bear on their jukebox and I love to play Pachuca Sunrise over and over just to annoy my fellow drinkers and/or friends. But, either way, it's a great place to get drunk. Plus, it's close enough to where I live, that I can leave smashed and stumble home without getting lost. Update 1/28/08: I just tried out their brunch this past weekend. Delish! I had heard mixed things about their brunch. But, it was really good. My friend's tofu burrito was HUGE and was really good. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'd almost order that over a non-veggie burrito. The bacon is peppery and the pancakes are fluffy. Everything is pretty cheap and if you go at the right time, you won't have to wait too long for a table. Plus, pitchers of mimosas! For $15! I'll be seeing you more often dear Linda's. read more

I can't believe I haven't Yelped about Linda's yet. I just came from there, however, so now is as good a time as any. The first time I went to Linda's, I ordered a rum and diet and about died. It was SO strong. Since then I've learned my lesson and stick to beer - I can't speak for any of the other mixed drinks. They seem to have a decent beer selection from what I've seen, though. I love the fact that they have an outdoor section, although that place is FREEEEZING at night! Thank God for the heaters they have out there. Tonight I finally tried some of their food, and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the grilled cheese with tomato, and my one complaint was that there only seemed to be about one tomato slice per half-sandwich, meaning that part of the time there was NO tomato when I bit into my sandwich and part of the time there was. It came with fries that were pretty good, plus a pickle! All for about $6, so not a bad deal. The big complaint? The service. Maybe it was because we were outside, maybe they were just unexpectedly busy, but we had to seek someone out to request a food menu, and then they took forever to ask for our order, and then forever to bring us the food. About halfway through our meal, my boyfriend requested another beer, which didn't come until well after we'd finished eating. They were quick getting the check to us, so who knows what was going on there. So hey, Linda's is a good place - so far not great, not amazing, but not bad, either. I'll be back, I'm sure. read more

If you like your waiter with an extra dose of attitude and for them to ignore you if you're not one of their friends or wearing skinny jeans, go to Linda's. There's a blonde girl who is basically surly and seems pissed off half the time. This week a different server ignored us for like 25 minutes. I had a empty beer and was waiting to order another. At one point he came to each of the tables next to us and asked if they needed anything, but then ignored us. (yes, I could have flagged him down but I was busy talking to my friend, plus I expected he was going to stop at our table after each of the other ones). Then for the last 15 min or so he was standing at the bar chatting with a friend who had come in. Finally we gave up and left. I actually like the food, it's pretty good for a dive bar. And the happy hour is great because it's 7-9pm. So my advice is sit at the bar if there's room, otherwise sit at a table and order from the bar (which might piss off your server, but that's okay because they probably already were pissed off ;)). read more

Back in my more robust days, the days of week long drinking benders, Lindas used to be my bar. Unfortunately this place has pretty much gone tits up. Almost overnight the place became overran by frat guys. Of course there are the hipsters, but that's no surprise, since you can practically see that from space. The overall effect it that you feel like you're in the middle of a brawl between the "sharks" and "jets". And everybody on yelp is right when they suggest you had better not be a normal person, or else you're gunna feel completely out of place. Some primary complaints are as follows: If you want to get a seat, inside or out, summer or winter (and if you don't want to fellate a gaggle of hipsters) you're going to have to get there no later then 8:00 PM. Otherwise you're likely to be standing around with 15 lb's of beer running down your wrist and elbow for 45 minutes until somebody finally leaves. God forbid you have to go to the bathroom (this is where the sorority types chime in) Because this is when you realize the world is truly a shit hole. You'll stand in line rolling your eyes for close to 15 minutes, despite the fact that the line to the bathroom is composed of two other people. You will likely exchange some words about the current idiot in there who has already taken 6 minutes in there, and promising each other that you will hurry. By the time your predecessor is in the bathroom, you have all but exchanged pinky-swares and friendship bracelets. Fuckedly, she will exceed the time of the previous bathroom tenant by double! This is worth mentioning because like clockwork it happens EVERY time I'm there! Ordering drinks at the bar is only slightly more of an ordeal then it is at any other bar. and in this case it seems like no fault of the staff, rather the frat guys who use the bar as a stage to exhibit their newly discovered make-out skills with their makeup slathered girlfriends instead of ordering drinks! (take it back to the futon kids!) Finally... What's the deal with last call being at like 12:30? .... And everyone being completely hustled out by 1:13? No kidding its like "the brute squad" on Princess Bride. read more

Let's talk about brunch. For being the hip district, Capitol Hill is lacking in a lot of brunch spots. There should be literally one on every corner. There should be brunch spots inside of brunch spots. But there aren't and that is silly. Thankfully we have places like Linda's. Simple, delicious brunch food. Pitchers of mimosas. Laura Palmer's photo on the mantle. We're good to go. So take that hangover and cure yourself. Oh, also, if you have family in from the hinterlands like I did this morning, this place cracks them up. Kind of sad that they are changing the happy hour time, because it was amazing when it was from 7pm-9pm to get a small discount on beers. But, this is the perfect place to drink beer and have bar food. The burger is kind of whatever. The fries are really good. They have tater tots that aren't sad and mushy. The chicken strips are unique and have some interesting spices going on. Quesadilla is pretty good - but warning: you have to pay extra for sour cream and guacamole. It also comes with tortilla chips. They have a patio. It's not like an amazing culinary experience. It's a low-key place to have beer and eat chicken wings. Some places don't really need any more reviews. Reviews aren't really needed for establishments that are rooted in people's minds and suggestions of stopping in are carried on the wind. Linda's is that kind of place. No one really needs to read a review about Linda's or look to the internet to learn that they should go and check it out. Linda's is something of a classic in spite of it's young existence. I write this review about Linda's though because it is a special kind of place. On the hill and literally on a hill, Linda's is a place where all pieces of the pie fit. I've spotted many a rolling stone lay their hat and call it home. This is a sort of urban utopia with an old fashioned western theme. Speaking of which, who knew the dcor would fly? We all know Linda Derschang is a savvy business woman, but seriously, this town is quick to disapprove. (I don't speak for all, I speak for experience.) But it works, it all works. The food isn't aces but the service has never left me angry. The people who work at this spot will exercise some basic people skills. The last remark may sound patronizing but it isn't meant to be. Kind of sad when one thinks about it. Many places in this town have an arsenal of employees who can't construct a simple sentence and when they do, one wishes they hadn't. It's nice to duck in to a place where I don't have to worry about what people do or don't say. Thanks. I enjoy the consistently good service and reliably juxtaposed clientele. Yeah I get it, you think everyone under 30 with tight pants is a "hipster" and you are "so sick of them"...yaaawn. Let's cut to the chase. I do love me some Linda's brunch, been going for years! My last visit finally reminded me to happily help. Our waitress was delightful, we've been in her section before (Bree?). She can spot a hangover a mile away and offer you the only cure..."pitcher of mimosas?" The food is good. Sometimes a little less than good, sometimes a little more than good, but you get the idea. The location can't be beat and it's not too pricey. Beating the weekend wait might require getting there early (as in before 11? maybe noon?). As for evenings here, it get's pretty crowded pretty fast, so come early and scout out seating for your crew or it might not happen. read more

Would someone please explain the PBR-hipster connection to me? When my friends and I were coming up through the ranks and didn't have a pot to piss in, we would still turn our collective noses up at PBR, and the sole reason was it tasted like shit. Is that the reason it is the cool kid beer now? A wierd form of reverse snobbery? Anyway, Linda's is going to be a bigger madhouse now that all the Cha-Cha scenesters will kick it here. Here's how it went: I showed up and my buddy told me he would take care of the tab for the table. He was paying for three of us. The other two guys each had 2-3 rum and cokes. I had 2 beers. Between the three of us, it added up to $21.50. Only $21.50. I didn't feel guilty about having him take care of the whole tab. This is recession-priced drinking, friends. God I love Linda's. So many great memories, as well as plenty of nights I can't remember. This place is just... cool. It's rumored to be the last place Kurt Cobain was seen alive, which just ups its cool factor even more. But really, it's all about the cheap drinks and pitchers. Happy hour goes late (until 9, if I remember correctly). Quintessential Seattle. Always great people-watching. Come looking hot, if you're bar hopping later. Or come in your grunge wear and flannel. One more thing you should have called me instead of charlie i miss your sultry voice. I know there are enough reviews about Linda's that anybody that does not know about it can figure it out. But I have to review a place that I visit on a weekly basis. Michael i have met her and boy does she taste delicious Dear Linda You had me hooked from the first moment that your lagunitas touched my lips. Little did I know that day that we would develop such a bond. Every time I visit you there is little debate why; good beer, good company and you Linda. I was perfectly happy with our relationship and then I did something unexpected I called on you in the morning.... You were just as breathtaking in the morning as you are at night and I would of never expected that. So thank you for being perfect in every way. The best part of our relationship is that my girlfriend like's you too. So people go to Linda's drink lagunitas at night and get the pitcher of mimosa in the morning and you will feel the same way as I do. read more
