We spent the evening watching the Huskies in the Sugar Bowl. Our first time in Sullys and it was a gas! Brian the bartender was friendly and professional, terrific service. The bar food was incredible, we had the wings, wedge salad and onion rings. All were surprisingly amazing. Comfortable seating and filled with friendly locals. We will absolutely be back. Cheers!

Housed in the former digs of Sapphire and Q is recently opened restaurant and bar called Sully's. It is a comfortable, classy, cozy and laid back place. I like the fact that it is open late and serves some tasty food (there aren't many places open past 10 p.m. on top of the hill). They do feature three flat panel televisions and I hear that it is a great place to watch games. On my first late night visit I had a spicy grilled chicken sandwich. The chicken breast was coated in a sambal bbq sauce and topped with red pepper aioli, lettuce, onion and tomato. I found the bun was a little too fluffy, though. It was accompanied with an apple salad with currants and almonds. Next time around I plan on trying the lamb sliders! I'll have to check out their happy hour sometime soon. Happy hour is served from 4p.m. - 7 p.m. and 11p.m. - 1a.m. daily. Most of the food specials run about $4-5 each and feature items like: Cajun shrimp, baked mac & cheese, sweet potato fries and hush puppies. Drink specials include mojitos and margaritas at $4 and $5 wells. I suppose if you are super cheap you can have a $2 PBR - you definitely won't be seeing me drinking that swill! Service is pretty awesome and the bartender kept me well hydrated! Stumbling distance home from here is short and that is a good thing! **This place is not affiliated with Sully's Snowgoose Saloon** UPDATE: 09/18/07 Tried the lamb sliders today and they were really damn good! They come three to a plate with coleslaw. The burgers are seasoned with a little salt and cumin. The mustard has a hint of cumin to it too. Very juicy!

Kells Irish Restaurant & Bar - Kells Irish Benedict

My husband and I were looking for ramen on our way to our parked car, however, we ended up going to…read moreKells because the hankering of a Guinness was greater than ramen in that instance of time. We ordered the Irish chowder, and corned beef and cabbage with mash potatoes, and a glass of Guinness beer. The chowder tasted like any chowder I had before but this came with soda bread, and the bread was really good. The corned beef dish was also delicious. Lots of flavor to it and certainly not salty. The cabbage (carrots and string beans) paired well with the mash and the beef. Service was quick and non- bothersome. Our waiter came to check in when they needed to and not when we were about to stuff food in our mouth which happens far too often than I would like to share. As for the establishment itself, it is quite dark, which all align with what pubs would be. Interesting to say though that the walls were adorned with art and the right pillar where we sat had a frame of what looked to be a collection of irish stamps. It was pretty neat to look at.

I needed a Smithwick's. I frequently went to Kell's, but that was a long time ago. At Kell's…read moretoday you can get a Guinness and beer they brew themselves. Bartender recommended - no, suggested - a red ale similar to Smithwick's. It is not Smithwick's. I don't really remember the food, and I suspect that's a good thing. I asked the waiter if the corned beef and cabbage was good. He said, "We are an Irish bar." When gently pressed, he added, "A lot of people order it." The staff doesn't seem to think there's much to recommend at Kell's these days and I'm inclined to agree. 3 stars for some good memories, they still put on live music, and the fact that while nothing was great, nothing was terrible either.

The venue inside was very quaint and felt like how an Irish Pub should be. The live artists they had were great and very talented. Had the whole room filled with excitement, dancing, and laughter, all that I was looking for in this holiday. Entertainment aside though, the bartending section wasn't the best. Similar experience to what some Yelpers have mentioned, the service wasn't too friendly. I understand it was a busy and stressful night for the two men working, and ordering was a little disorganised. Tried ordering Irish Coffees, but the bartender said "no coffees" and they moved on to the next customer. I'm sorry, I know you had to tend to the next people, but you didn't even give us a chance to tell you what we alternatively wanted instead. That was rude. And then they ignored my group for ten minutes until we were finally able to grab their attention again. We ended up ordering a Guinness for everyone, and paid the tab right away. The bartenders then took the tab back, and took care of the other customers. We saw them pour our Guinness, but then left it sitting back there for quite a bit. We were just straight staring at it, wondering if we were going to be handed it? It wasn't until we spoke up that they gave our drinks to us. It was served in plastic cups which isn't a big issue, but I liked the glass cups better from the previous bar we went to. After that we brought our drinks over to whichever table was open in the side room. Not the cleanest pub as the only table we were able to get was filled with many empty cups and cans piled in the middle of the table. Again, I understand it was a busy night, but there could have been at least one staff member going around the place making sure things get cleaned up. It was also quite warm in the main room, but luckily the side room had a window opened for cool air. To be completely honest though, if it wasn't for the live music and environment - Owl'n Thistle would've earned my first ever one star review. Maybe on a normal night I would want to give this place another chance due to the holiday circumstances, but other reviews on a normal day seems to describe a similar disappointing experience.

Perfect Sunday Find - Crispy Halibut & Unexpectedly Amazing Mashed Peas!…read moreWe stopped by on a sunny Sunday while out for a walk, just planning to grab a drink--but ended up having one of the best fish & chips I've had in a while. The halibut was perfectly fried: crispy on the outside, tender and flaky inside. The fries were a bit on the softer side, but still flavorful. Surprisingly, the star of the dish for me was the mashed peas--bright, creamy, and elevated by a touch of lemon that brought everything to life. We paired the meal with a dry cider, which went beautifully with the fish. Such a spontaneous and satisfying find. I'd definitely come back--especially for those peas!
