We had a really great time here! We stopped by on a whim as I was hungry still after dinner. We split a little pizza and my partner had the skillet cookie. We had alot of fun going on Derby Day when they indulged with a Derby themed party inviting clientele to wear their fascinators, serving mint juleps, and having the race on the TV's. They do a great job with the theme party. Indianapolis 500 is at the end of May! The staff was friendly and made great cocktails. They have snacks, but they are next door to a burger place also. At the time of this writing, the street is torn up in some construction debacle, but there is still street parking on the side streets, and a walk path is set up to get into the businesses. It's a cozy space with a lounge lizard vibe. I could see sitting in there at night in the dark holding a martini glass listening to a sultry, slow burning torch singer in the corner crooning some steady, sexy Peggy Lee or booming bass Shirley Bassey Bond theme. I don't like to leave bad reviews but I was just so bothered by this experience. So, I suggested this place to my friend based on reviews. It was jus me and my friend. We both were excited to try this place we've never been to before! When we walked in it was almost dead silence in there. The tv had a game but the volume was probably on 2 or something. No music. It was almost dead silence in there. The ambiance was definitely not there. Honestly, it felt awkward. As we walked in, the people at the bar looked at us. There was about 8 people in there. The bartender looked at us and he didn't say a thing to me and my friend. My friend and I picked a table against the wall right in front of the bar. The bartender glanced at us and continued to look at his phone. The bartender easily could have greeted us and say something, anything to us. We felt very unwelcomed, which is ironic because the opposite of that was the one of the reasons why I suggested to go there! So, since the bartender had no interest in servicing us, I mean he is in the "service industry," you would think we'd get at least a greet! Not even a "Hi" or a "Hey!" Or even this . So, after the bartender showed the lack of interest in serving us. I felt no need or want to spend my hard earned money on the lack of service. My friend drove 30 mins to pick me up and then another 25 to go check this place out, but to only NOT get the good experience that I read about. I been working in customer service for 20 years, food and retail, and I've learned that something as simple as a greet can go a long way! It's the experience that brings customers back and makes them stay! Unless they don't want new customers! ‍I can't speak for my friend but I'm open to maybe giving it another chance since I didn't get to try anything! As the Irish would say, "This is my Local." Location is everything and I started going here several months ago because it's in walking distance of my house in Madison Valley. That said, I return because it's awesome. The people are friendly, the drinks are reasonably priced and they have awesome barber shop chairs in the side room that actually recline while you wet your whistle. Close enough to the Cap Hill Scene to transition but far enough away from the fray to feel a little removed which is nice. Cheers! read more

This is one bottleneck that I don't mind getting caught in. Bottleneck is intimate, cozy, and swanky. They have large prints dressing up the red walls and the coolest lights accenting the front entrance. They also have a large chalkboard in the bathroom for you to leave comments and or phone numbers. The elite squad hit up Bottleneck last night for another rocking party. Cam, the world's bestest bartender, handled all of our drinking demands beautifully. So this is what's beyond Capitol Hill. I'd heard that the place was small ("teeny tiny," actually), but I had no idea what this meant until I saw it in person. I love cozy spaces, though, as they promote camaraderie, especially when some drinks are in the mix. Great little place for a quiet drink, or, apparently, a full-on gathering. The cheese was superb, and I crammed enough of it in my maw to dry out a well stocked calf. I know not whether this was special for the occasion, but either way, it didn't hurt what I thought of the diminutive lounge. Cam provides great service with a smile. I came here with a few girls for girls' night out a couple of weeks ago for drinks and food. I was pretty surprised that the place was so small and so divey... but I liked it! It felt like a combination between a lounge and a dive bar which was pretty awesome to me. The atmosphere was chill and like everyone else mentioned on a Monday evening, they were playing Tom Waits. The drinks were pretty darn delicious too. My favorite was the yelapa papa... not only because it's so fun to pronounce but it was super tasty! Tasted like a mojito but with a fruity twist. My friend ordered the hummus platter and man, it was HUGE. The portion was very generous and if I remember correctly, the rice crackers were bomb. This is a really unique place and I felt bad for the server that night because there were so many of us and it was only him running the show; making the drinks and cooking the food too. Love this little neighborhood bar/lounge on Madison. Friendly staff, good selection of drinks (full bar, rotating drafts) and you can order not just bar snacks but full food service from the burger place ("2 Doors Down") and have it delivered here. I first went here years ago, and actually held one of my wife's birthday parties in the lounge area up above the bar. But I keep coming back any time I'm in the area and have some time to kill. The Bottleneck IS a wonderful neighborhood bar. What's better for me is that is actually in my neighborhood. This is key, because the mixed drinks are yummy and inventive(if you catch my drift). I dig the atmosphere of the Bottleneck-- dark walls, nice lighting, and a trip to the powder room won't leave you feeling like a refuge at some sort of music festival (thank goodness). My favorite thing about the Bottleneck, though, is that they serve Dry Soda. After a few cocktails, a nice Belly Rub (Bottleneck- speak for Lavender Dry Soda) rounds out the evening in the kind of way that makes the trek home down 23rd Avenue a bit less *dangerous*. I wanted to like this place really. Came to the Bottleneck for a birthday celebration saturday night, and just was not that impressed. I did like the inside of the place..lots of charm..cool pictures on the walls. But 6.75 for a watered down stoli vaniila driver sucks..I even had a friend order my second drink..and still it was weak. The drinks were also is short glasses to make matters worse. The service was meh..saturday night, and they were somewhat overwhelmed. I counted 2 workers on shift. I may come back again..but only for a glass of wine..and on a weekday night.. read more

I kinda want to say this place sucks, but only because it's really tiny and I don't want it to be so popular that there isn't anywhere to sit when I go. But really, it rocks, so I'll try not to be a selfish liar. Cam is hilarious and if he makes a damn good drink. They have this doggy inspired list of tasty concoctions that is sure to satisfy anyone's craving for a unique cocktail. They are a little spendy, but definitely worth it. Really, I don't think they cost much more than any other bar's cocktails, but they're so good that you'll probably order too many, making your bill higher than you'd expect. Also, this little place (and I seriously mean little) is not near a ton of other bars, so you rarely get the slurring idiots stumbling in en route to sloshville. Although, like I said above, the drinks are fabulously fabulous, so you'll probably be a slurring idiot by the time you leave. Ah, good times. I moved to BottleNeck's neighborhood a year ago, but always passed this bar up because I thought it was for boring middle-aged people (not all middle-aged people are boring, but these imaginary patrons were, in my head) for some misguided reason. My boyfriend persuaded me to visit for a quick cocktail before our NYE dinner plans. I'm SO glad, because that night I learned about BottleNeck's TRUFFLE BUTTER POPCORN. Popcorn is my favorite snack and I am basically a truffle pig, so I fell in love with BottleNeck immediately. We've now been just twice, which is a calamity. The cocktails are good and inventive. I tried a "His Nibs" recently and it's very thick and chocolaty, meant to be sipped slowly...or you could down several quite good $5 Manhattans on a Monday. My boyfriend ordered a Reuben sandwich and he liked that, though the greens that came with it were under-dressed. I will never not order the truffle butter popcorn. For $5, are you kidding me? It's AMAZING. I could marry it. Everything is reasonably priced for Seattle and some things are a downright steal. There's bar seating, window seating, a bunch of small tables, and some couches in the back. It's an intimate space but it feels comfortable, not crowded. The bartenders are just attentive enough, but not terribly interested in socializing. Or maybe they are and they just don't want to interrupt me when I'm being groped by an effusive drunk man whom I've just met (with a very sober boyfriend named Roman), or waxing political after only one drink. I could definitely make a habit of BottleNeck, and I hope to do just that. I've never been a regular before! I'm excited. read more

I just moved in from this place down the street, and when a friend came to visit from out of town we stopped in here for a drink. The first thing that struck me was that this place is really small. It feels a little bigger once you realize that there's a second room, but not much bigger. The bartender (-tendress?) was very nice and made good drink suggestions. The drink prices are on the high end of average, but the drinks are solid. We took a seat in the second room and chatted when we noticed that the bartender (-tendress? Which is it?) had brought out some board games. We had a great time drinking and playing Scrabble, but be warned that the more you drink the harder it is to play. On the way out we noticed that a group of people was playing an old Nintendo on a TV above the bar and there were a couple stacks of games to choose from. Score! We stopped in again a few nights later, which is a good indicator that we enjoyed it. I guess there's a chance it could become "my neighborhood bar," but only time will tell. read more

This bar is rather nice and homey but sadly it has a quite a few regulars. And if you are a newcomer, it is very easy to get neglected. Also the vibe of this place is definitely for the older crowd (50+) I went here with a few people and we could barely pry ourselves through the wall of middle aged regulars to talk to the bartender. The drinks took really long to get to us because he was knee-deep in conversation with his regulars. Closing the tab was another story. So for now, I will avoid the BottleNeck lounge during weekends. But maybe on a weeknight when its not too crowded I'll go there. The bloody marys are pretty good. read more

I have been coming here for years, initially due to its being located pretty much right across the street from my place. The owner is a badass who knows her shit, and the bartenders are always top notch. It is the kind of neighborhood bar where I can go solo, sit at the bar, and have great conversation with the other regulars- accompanied by a plethora of fabulous cocktail choices. I really like the food menu. In fact, I oftentimes find myself at home, mouthwatering over the thought of the delicious grilled cheese awaiting so conveniently nearby. It is important to note that the menu was very recently updated, and the salmon plate is back (and better than ever!). I will save any further reviews of this place for the next time I have had a few cocktails there. read more

We've found a neighborhood bar! Living in Madison Valley/Park, where vegetarian restaurants, bakeries, pet and consignment stores take preference over good local pubs, we were glad to have been introduced to the Bottleneck right up the hill. The Bottleneck Lounge is such a great neighborhood bar. It is so great that we walk 11 blocks (from Madrona) to go there. I love that the bartenders introduce patrons to each other at the bar. I love that the owners (Adelle and Erin) hang out at their bar often. The drinks are excellent (homemade ginger infused vodka and rosemary infused tequila - wow!) I've stopped in here twice (one of my bestest friends lives right down the block now!), and have been pleased on both visits. For the first, we were just looking for some food to-go, so we skipped the drinks, but ordered some panini off the menu, which the very nice and adorable bartender said he would wrap up for us, no problem. I had the Turkey w/havarti, she had the Caprese - the cook threw them into a take-out container with a handful of Tim's chips, and we headed back to her place to eat. YUMMMMM. Good stuff! Last night, we had more time so we decided to stop in and try some of the interesting looking specialty drinks from their menu. My Rosie's Referesher had Stoli Bluberry, Lemon and LAVENDER. Hanna's Bark-a-Lounger was some damn fine hand-mixed Sangria - with a LOT of cinnamon, which I actually really liked. We also shared the hummus plate, which had olives, feta, artichokes, mozzarella, tomatoes, and yummy rice crackers. The hummus was tasty! And it was the perfect size for 2 people. The atmosphere in here is comfy & cozy - and I love that the bathroom has a giant chalkboard for one wall so people can graffiti in there all they want.
