Sam's used to be known for having some of the best fries around. Their burgers were good too. New owners have taken over and their signature thick steak style fries are now gone, replaced by basic bland fries. My order had no seasoning whatsoever. (Also if you dined in before, they used to give you bottomless fries) . New owners if you are reading this you need to bring back the iconic Sam's fries. Hello, I was at the Capital Hill location 12/13 around 6pm for a Christmas get together with my co-workers. There was a man and a woman working, The man was very rude, rolling his eyes and acting like he didn't have time to answer our questions. We ended up moving our party because of this. I think this needs to be addressed with your staff. I have told may people about my experience over the weekend. It's very disappointing. I stopped in one afternoon with my sister and a friend while visiting Seattle. The menu looked decent, and the space seemed low-key, so we decided to give it a try. We were greeted immediately upon entry by a young lady who also ended up being our waitress. I didn't catch her name, but she was petite with long, light brown hair. She was very pleasant and attentive. Once we found her that we were visiting the area she suggested some other restaurants in the area. The space is comfortable and welcoming. The bathroom was also clean. I couldn't find the hand soap at first and laughed when I finally saw it with the sticker on it. (see photo) My sister and I both had chicken tenders and fries. Our friend had a burger. The food was very tasty. We all enjoyed our food immensely and had no complaints. My sister also had one of the cocktails, but I can't recall what it was called. The bill was about $80, which was slightly expensive for a dive bar, but probably on par for Seattle. If I ever visit the area again, I'd return to Sam's for sure. read more

A classic spot in Cap Hill for bar food, brews, and trivia -- it's an eclectic little spot with one of my favorite trivia hosts! My friends and I usually stop by on Tuesdays at 7 to play. The interior decor is funky (lots of moose-themed decor and dollar bills) and the bartenders are all very sweet and helpful. The food here is all the classic bar foods, and I've always liked it! Highly recommend the nachos, grilled cheese, and sweet potato fries. They're always kind enough to leave the chili off to the side to make the nachos vegetarian. Trivia here is also one of my favorites in the area! The announcer is so sweet and the questions are just challenging enough. My favorite way to spend a Tuesday night with pals. read more

I often go to slu Sam's and love it, so I came to this bar. They were super gracious. They let me charge my phone, which is so rare In cap hill. We went to Sam's yesterday to watch some football and grab some food and drinks! Giving this place 4 stars because of the fact that it was a game day and there was only one guy working who was awesome. He was serving people, making drinks, bringing food out, cleaning tables and he was still super attentive with us and kept checking in on us! We ordered clucks and fries and chicken wings to share. The wings and fries were tasty! The wings were perfectly crispy which I love. The clucks (chicken tenders) were just okay. Pretty flimsy strips of chicken that weren't crispy. I'd give 3 stars for the food. Overall, we had a great time at Sam's watching the game!Love the little Christmas decorations they have up and all of the dollar bills throughout the place. Our second stop while in the Capital Hill area, bar hopping. This area is so fun and there are so many restaurants, bars, etc. all within walking distance of one another. We found ourselves in front of Sam's Tavern and asked the security guy what the vibe was like. He said it was chill, and after the Unicorn's zaniness, we needed chill. We went in for a drink. The "Soup of the Day" sign got our attention (it was Red Bull & Vodka that day) and we ordered those. Our bartender, Bryan, was friendly and quick. We sat at a long table/bar, that invites conversations and soon met some others at a nearby table and made quick friends with them. We had a lot of fun here and the place got busier as it got later, so we got here about the right time (9:30 PM-ish). A fun thing to do here is to decorate a dollar bill and post it in the bar wherever you can. We found this place has at least 3 locations, each with a different feel according to one of our new friends. Give this place a try when in the area. read more

Soooo Sam's ended up being our last bar stop in Seattle and also my favorite. I loved it because they're not taking themselves too seriously in a part of the city that is trying so hard to be cool that it fails miserably. Capitol Hill was so ironically pretentious it's laughable. Ugly and dirty, Capitol Hill was my least favorite part of my least favorite city on our summer west coast tour. I will give credit to the awesome spots, though, like Sam's Tavern. Chill, fun, great bartender, great service. It's definitely a place I will return to if I ever make it back to Seattle. Had a couple of pre dinner cocktails. The Jack Daniels and cokes were nice and strong. There are lots of locals here. One of the friendliest places we visited. Came here New Year's Day for dinner and there was only 2 people working the entire area. Despite that, our server did a great job informing us their situation soon after we walked in so we were prepared for possibly a longer wait between service. The two men did the best they could and food came out pretty fast for the situation. Chicken strips were super crispy and juicy warm inside (very solid job well done). Ordered takeout from Sams tavern during the pandemic. They have a nice outdoor patio with tents and heaters.. the outdoor patio was packed with people all in their own groups.. We ordered the teriyaki chicken burger and the Jalapeno Reno and both the burgers were really good.. the sauce in the jalapeno reno is definately worth a mention (i wish they had pit some extra though).. for the sides definitely try their sweet potato waffle fries which are so good and their tater tots are okay.. they have a huge bar (ofcourse it is a tavern afterall) but i did not get a chance to taste their drinks during my covid visit.. They do have a buy one get one burger offer on facebook so avail that offer if you like by commenting on their post.. all in all a good burger place to hangout with friends in SLU.. read more

My bestie and I stopped into Sam's for breakfast while road-tripping. Paid parking can be found on the street. Be sure to clearly read all the parking signs! I received a $47 parking ticket for failing to park correctly. Sam's is 21+ and the perfect dive bar. Sam's doesn't offer any frills. Sam's is straightforward, down-to-earth and all welcoming. Happy Hour is offered Monday-Friday from 3pm-6pm and Sunday-Thursday from 10pm-2am. My bestie and I each ordered one of Sam's infamous Bloody Mary's for $14. Our Mary's were crazy good, topped with a mini grilled cheeseburger, pepper Jack cheese cube, sausage link, pickled asparagus, blue cheese stuffed olives, pickled pearl onions, celery, lemon and lime wedges. Although our Mary's filled us both up, we decided to share the Breakfast Burrito for $7.95: scrambled eggs, sausage, pico, potatoes and cheese. Served piping hot and absolutely delish. Was here last night and witnessed blatant and overt racism. I approached the bar at a spot between two people. Man to my right with his girl were clearly waiting for the bartender to make his round back to serve him but never did. I also wasn't served even though we were right in front of him and in line of sight as the next ones to order. We both got passed up and the bartender CHOSE to ignore us. The man tried to signal the other bartender next to him who basically told him, "I can't serve you cause we work in sections" or something to that extent. A guy sat next to me on the left side and was served his drink, it was pretty apparent that the bartender was not trying to interact with us. This was about 10-15 minutes with last call approaching in 20. The man to my right tried to say something to the bartender who ended up, making some excuse I couldn't really hear and ends up walking off after being confronted. Moments later, security comes and tells the man next to me that he has to leave. It was very odd and uncalled because I want to be very clear that he was not causing a scene, he was loud or aggressive he simply just wanted to order a drink him and his girl and was intentionally being ignored, as was I. Will def avoid this place like the plague since it was made clear that black people aren't to be helped and will get kicked out for trying to order a drink. read more

I have enjoyed the times I have come to Sam's Tavern and I LOVE the onion rings but now I will find someplace else to go and get that. That's my favorite appetizer to get and I've been coming here since 2017 to get them but now I feel they are overcharging people and I see some of the other reviews have pointed that out. For $14 you get a pretty delicious Bloody Mary (it can be a lot stronger) and veggie option for the slider. The bartenders are always friendly, the vibe is chill and the food comes out fresh and fast. I haven't tried a lot from their menu but I hear great things about the breakfast burrito. Sam's Tavern is simply refreshing. A cross between an old man bar and hipster dufus crowd with groomed beards wearing flannel clothing. Really this place is an oasis from Seattle's downtown core to sit and grab a beer or grub. Burgers are fantastic and come in regular or mini sized. Wings are spectacular but not over spiced, just right for a nibble. But them gem is the chilli in this joint. The chili is thick & rich and filled with meaty boulders of flesh. I was blown how much meat was in my bowl. It's no vegan treat but then again meat is not murder it's a lifestyle and Frank loves it. Now before you leave, Frank insists you have a Bloody Mary, cause what's life without a good one. ( Am I wrong ) However you may order this spicy vodka delight super sized with mini burger and almost a garden salad stuffed into it. Keep in mind Sam's offers a regular version free of garden farm. I heard that Red Robin owns Sam's, which can be a positive or a negative, depending on your tastes. I think that due to the location this place has some real potential. I love the friendly but gruff looking weekend bouncer with eyepatch. How's that for ambiance? Service seems quick and seating is plentiful as the place is still new. Bottomless fries are yummy, well drinks kind of weak. Decor is all of the place, too. Stuffed animals, PBR signs, carosel horse with helmet, dirt bike. Was in Cap Hill the other day hanging out with a friend, and she saw they had drink specials on their website so we done headed over there to grab a drink. Went there later in the afternoon and there were only a few people sitting at the bar. Bartender was nice but the only special they had was $1 canned Rainier Beer. That's it. They need to update their website. We didn't try any of their burgers, food or specialty drinks like the bloody mary, we only stayed to have 1 beer. Watched the Sounders game while drinking our beer and we were out! Very casual, divey place with interesting decor but I do like the bar top with the pennies a lot. read more

For reference, I usually come here for lunches on the weekend, so I'm never here battling the crowds on weekend nights. This place is very popular, and in an amazing location, so it's always packed to the brim with a line out the door on Friday and Saturday nights. The atmosphere is fun and I love the staff here -- they are always friendly and smiley, even when they are busy. The food is honestly pretty good for an establishment that primarily serves as a bar, and it's hard to beat a basket of bottomless fries. I love that they give the option of serving sandwiches wrapped in lettuce (among a few other options that I'm currently forgetting).
