This is my neighborhood pub and it's great! I love the corned beef quesadillas, and the pasta dishes and sandwiches are also always good. The fries, tots and sweet potatoes fries are consistently fried to perfection. The beers on tap are rotated with great care. Food was good! However, I don't like being nickled and dimed! Asked server for extra salsa for my taco salad. He brought a small cup, probably two to three tablespoons. When the bill came, there was an additional $2 charge! Seriously? Would they charge for salt, ketchup, mustard? Had I been told there was an up charge, I could have declined. $2 is certainly not a big deal, but it's the principle of the matter. Next, there'll be an "plate cleaning charge," "silverware charge," etc. It's ridiculous. Condiments are part of the cost of doing business. Also, there was a large dog brought in by diners next to me. The dog was on his feet most of the meal, even wandering over to our table nudging one of us! Service dogs don't behave this way. We started with a round of double tall greyhounds-so good! We then ordered fish & chips- nice thick pieces of fish with the perfect crunchy batter & crispy fries. We kept ordering from there with chili- really tasty & a bit spicy, tortilla soup that was full of tender chicken & whisky crab bisque- so creamy & delicious. We also got the avocado shrimp- really fresh & tasty, the bacon wrapped scallops with green goddess dressing & salad- so amazing! We stopped by here one night after hearing about their amazing fish n chips. It was our first visit and we weren't sure what to expect but were looking forward to a family night out together - something we rarely do these days since the pandemic. Other reviews have mentioned that they do not acknowledge people when they first walk in, and I would agree with that. We were a little confused about whether we should wait for someone to seat us, or to seat ourselves. When no one came over to us, I figured it was the latter so I lead my family over to one of the open tables and we sat down. My daughter was nervous that we weren't supposed to be doing that so I did go up to the bar to check with someone if it was ok, and the busser said it was fine. The server came and was quick to take our drink order but did not come back to take our food order. I flagged someone down to let them know we were ready and eventually our server returned to take our order. Once we got that in, it wasn't too long before our food came and all was well. The fish was the beer batter kind - golden, crunchy and delicious. Slaw was decent. We would have liked a more substantial tartar sauce, though. The one they offer is more like ranch consistency. Nonetheless, it was good and so were the fries. I think as long as you know ahead of time that you will need to be responsible for seating yourself and flagging staff down to let them know you are ready for them to help you (and you are ok with this kind of exchange), this is a fine place to eat. A little signage to communicate this to the customers would probably go a long way to prevent people from getting upset. MADRONA ARMS is a cozy neighborhood sports bar with decent pub grub. I like the ambiance of the fireplace and how spacious enough the interior is to be able to hold large groups. They have some tv's with different sporting events on to appeal to different types of fans. I like the look of the bar and I thought the service was friendly and efficient. I was in a group of 7 people and our order came out together and we thought our food tasted good. Madrona is a cute neighborhood. First time visiting this restaurant, my wife and I grabbed a coffee and stopped by for lunch. "The boss" to busy to come talk to us, sent over the waiter and we were told we can't bring in outside food or drinks and denied service to dine-in and as an alternative told we could order take out ( if your that worried about my coffee put a sign up for crying out loud!) #wild I'll never come back. "Back in the day" (cough cough, five years ago) I was a semi-regular at the Madrona Arms. I really enjoyed their afternoon happy hour, great beer selection, friendly service, and tasty food. Well, recently I had the chance to go back, and was excited to relive the many fond memories of my previous trips here. Sadly, the Madrona isn't the same. Well, it still looks the same. But somewhere along the line it seems to have lost a little of its charm. We were there on "taco Tuesday" and, while our server recommended the tacos, we immediately regretted ordering them. They were not good at all. Reminder to self: when in an Irish pub, order Irish food? The beers were good and cold, but other than that things were pretty lackluster, including very slow service (even though the place wasn't very busy). Not sure I'd come here again, sadly. We were in the Madrona area and looking for a casual place to eat dinner...Madrona Arms worked really well. Here is what we noticed: - It was pretty quiet the night we were there (even though it was a Saturday night) so we got a booth. The vibe is fun, definitely sports-bar like, but very relaxed and inviting. - For a change, we weren't drinking but the cocktail menu and list of draft beers looked good. - My wife and I each had a cup of the Whiskey Crab Bisque soup, and then we split the Irish Dip. The soup was ok...a little strange as the crab was pretty much chopped up, but the flavor was good. The Dip, on the other hand, was spectacular! I've never been a French Dip kind of person, but this time having the sandwich with corned beef (instead of roast beef) was the bomb...it was so good that I wish we hadn't split the meal. And, the fries were done extra crispy as we requested! - Service was pretty good...it's a little strange that everyone helps everyone, so we didn't know exactly who our server was. They all pounced on us at the start but when we told multiple people that we needed more time to look at the menu, then it took them a while to notice. Just went to Madrona Arms to enjoy some drinks and lunch with coworkers and the service left something to be desired. It was noon on a sunny day and these guys were one of the few places open (bonus point) in the area open at the time. The area is super cute. The food was straight forward and good. Unfortunately the bartender left our group feeling like we weren't welcome. Sucks because this place has great potential. I don't think it's too much to ask for the server to not treat our group like we were an inconvenience, mind you there were only two other tables in the restaurant. My partner and I have been here sporadically a few times in the couple of years we have lived in the neighborhood but tonight was a horrible experience. We walked in and were not greeted whatsoever. The servers looked right at us and continued to walk in around in circles it seemed. We finally got the hint and sat ourselves and then a waiter came and threw coasters at us and mumbled at us asking if we wanted anything to drink. My partner ordered a beer and I was still debating if I wanted a drink or not and when the waiter came to give my partner his drink I asked for a cocktail and he said okay and then walked straight back to the kitchen and did not reappear for about 5 minutes and then picked up a remote and started changing the TVs and I did not see the other servers making my drink so I assumed I was not going to get it. We also were waiting for a long time to order food but like I said the two female servers seemed like they were walking around in circles pretending to find something to do. Also the menu is pretty pricy for really really basic bar food. Like I said we've had their food before and it's pretty comparable to Applebee's. Nothing spectacular. We ended up leaving because we knew we were going to be stuck there for hours if anyone finally decided to do their job and take our order. It's a shame people like this work in the service industry and probably still expect tips. I work in the service industry myself though my work is at a Spa but let me tell you, I know how to work for my tips. If you like good food, hospitality, and efficiency, DO NOT come here. Took 30 + minutes to place an order just for it to arrive wrong. The place doesn't know the difference between medium rare and well done. Not even the dogs would eat the burger I got. Questionable at best. Also gave me 2 pickle slivers for a $19 burger. After 20 + minutes of trying to wave down a waitress to take our order, my senior father headed over to the bar to try to see if we could place our order. He forgot to ask for a substitution on my burger so we had to spend another 10 + minutes trying to wave someone down to fix it. I would also like to point out the waitress, saw us trying to get her attention several times, but ignored us or went to tables where people were just being seated to take an order. When our food eventually did arrive, we were over the service and just wanted boxes so we could leave. This is undoubtedly a place for sports-lovers, and for that reason, it can get loud. The Arms plays all the relevant games, and ends up serving as more of a social hub than a restaurant. If you are looking for a quiet spot to wind down for the night, I might skip this one. Food here is mediocre. I wouldn't describe Madrona Arms as high quality; if anything, the food is subpar. Service, however, is amazing, friendly and safe. The waiters/waitresses are spectacular at making you feel right at home. Although I wouldn't come here to eat a world-class meal, I certainly would to munch while watching the 'Hawks game. Great lunchtime spot! Nice and quiet during the off-hours, like 1 pm. Food is good and drinks are delivered promptly! The decor is a little drab and could use a bit of sprucing up to give it a memorable vibe, however, it has a simple, rustic appeal. The location is pretty easy to get to, I've never encountered too much traffic in the area, which is nice when you're starving and want to get somewhere to eat! First time checking this out, was really pleased. In a nice, laid back neighborhood of Seattle. A nicely sized location, with friendly staff. Several TVs to check out games while having dinner and a beer. Large bar, can see this place getting busy on big game days. Also seems to be dog friendly! I got the Guinness stew, was so yummy and came with a nice side salad. The stew had pieces of beef with onion, potatoes, and carrot. Came with a piece of toasted bread for dipping. Madrona Arms is the only bar in the Madrona area and the only bar within miles, yes there are a couple other restaurants, but none that are as easy to spend time and relax watching a sports game, just drinking beer, or even with the family. We were there with our one year old and there were two other infants in the bar and multiple other small children on top of that. We were there from 4-5pm. The Mgr/bartender Brian is always friendly and courteous. He has worked in bars by the same owner for 11+ years, which means I have been drinking at those bars 11+ years. I go to Madrona Arms 2-5 Times a month. The prices are not crazy for Seattle. read more

Truly warm service makes this place feel like home - attentive and personal. Vibe changes from families and kids early in the evening to a neighborhood pub feel later on. The corned beef dip is truly delicious. The loaded baked potato is a full meal all by itself. The fries and tater tots are always hot and crispy without being too oily. And my son says the grilled cheese is the best he's had. A couple of girlfriends and I stumbled upon Madrona Arms while exploring the neighborhood. The outside looked enticing enough, so we decided to make this our first stop on our tour. The inside is pretty cool! You're greeted by a clash of sports bar and Irish pub feels, both of which I welcome. I think my favorite touch to this entire place were all the beer taps that they had on display. Our waitress was quite apathetic and even though we were one of five customers in the bar the entire time, kept us waiting every time we needed her. She was either talking to the other employee on the floor or nowhere to be seen. When we were ready to give her our cards after we received our checks, she walked past our table several times and saw that we were waiting and goes, "Oh, were you guys waiting for me?" Well, yes... The Pinot Grigio that they had was pretty tasty, and you get a nice full glass for $8. The "bubbles" (champagne) that they have is also really good too! Maybe it was just an off day as far as service goes, who knows. I've lowered my ranking to 2-stars (maybe 2.5) after several subsequent mediocre experiences. We won't be going back to our neighborhood pub unless we're desperate (everywhere else is packed, we're super hungry). The food at Madrona Arms is highly variable, between really poor, and reasonably good. But getting something mediocre is all too common, and I've given up on playing the game of kitchen roulette. The last time we were there, the chicken in my Chicken Marsala was nearly raw (pink inside, uncooked). I sent it back. The second time I got two pieces of chicken, one course and chewy (cooked but of poor quality), and the other of middling quality. We've had some good things here: The crab cakes, mussels, grilled salmon on spinach salad, the fish in the fish & chips, the whisky crab soup. OK, but not great: the French fries, the mashed potatoes with too much cheese, the non-standard Caesar salad, the risotto, the soup of the day. Things that haven't been good: Anything with chicken (total crap-shoot on quality), the Reuben (don't like their greasy corned beef). Details below, but sad to say, we won't be going back anytime soon. We really wanted to like our neighborhood pub, but food quality (or lack thereof) - both with ingredients and preparation, is a deal breaker for us. ------------- The ambiance is Irish Pub / Football (soccer), and there's an emphasis on nominally Irish pub food including bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage, etc. While there are a few lighter dishes (salmon risotto, mussels, salads), most of the fare is pretty heavy, which is to say high calorie and focused on meat, cheese, pizza and fried items. And it probably goes without saying, but the beer list is extensive and good. The new flooring is a hard surface, and it makes the space much louder. For folks with hearing issues, it's problematic (too much reflected sound), but most folks didn't mind at all. The beer and the sports on TV are great, and the live music on a Friday night is nice. The staff is settling in and getting friendlier. And now, on to the main item - the food: the prices are reasonable and the quality is varied (some items are good, some are so-so, some just poor). Below I give a rundown of the dishes I've tried. The mussels are really good - with a lightly spicy tomato broth. The Caesar salad is a good salad (I got mine with salmon on top) - but is basically a romaine salad with feta and not a traditional Caesar. Instead of anchovies, egg yolk, garlic, lemon, dijon mustard and parmesan, that you'd find in a traditional Caesar salad, there's feta and a non-traditional dressing. The grilled salmon was great and cooked to perfection. (N.B. if you want a traditional Caesar, go across the street to Saint Cloud's). The Chicken Marsala is drowning in sauce (almost like soup), and the chicken was of very poor quality (and the first time, way undercooked). The presentation of the spinach salad with chicken was wonderful with the grilled chicken sliced and grouped, the pear slices in a fan, the tomato slices to the side. The salad part was good (spinach, feta crumbles, dressing flavor). The bacon was great and done just right, the pear slices ripe and very tasty. On the other hand, the tomato was completely lacking in flavor, and the chicken was a disappointment - I'd get either the Caesar or spinach salads with salmon on top (really good, cooked to perfection) and avoid the chicken (good grilling on the outside, but watery, salty and poor texture inside - like processed chicken tenders) . The Reuben sandwich had all the right fixings, with a good dressing, sauerkraut (or is it cabbage) and good bread, but the corned beef itself was greasy and not great. The black bean burger is OK but nothing special. The fish component of the fish & chips was really good (top notch), but the fries not so good - they appear to be frozen potatoes and overly crispy, and were just not great (next time I may substitute a salad, though a pub really should have good fries). The flat iron steak continues to underwhelm - while well-seasoned, the meat is tough and poor quality - I'd avoid this item (FYI, for good steak and fries, go down the street to Red Cow). Also, I could do without the cheese on the mashed potatoes. The Whiskey crab soup is quite good - not much crab but good flavor and a bit spicy (which I like). Last time I tried it, it could have used less salt (actually that applies to most things on the menu). Generally, the sides are blah - the potato salad had excessive amounts of mayo (or whatever the sauce is), while the coleslaw was standard and bland. The beers and drinks are good - the iced tea was fresh brewed and tasty. They have a good selection of beers, which is now on a darker screen and much less intrusive. For wine drinkers, there's a reasonable selection, though this is not the emphasis of the pub. My ranking for this restaurant has plummeted, for cause. read more

This is a sort of Irish bar, featuring corned beef, pizza, gyros and a mix mosh of other items. They really fixed up the place laying new floor and making the place look clean and inviting. Unfortunately the food wasn't the best, hopefully it will improve with time. I had the corned beef. It came with mashed potatoes that were covered in melted cheese and a small slice of cabbage. (they menu is lacking on vegetable options) The corned beef was very fatty I had trouble picking through the two slices I got to find enough meat to eat. The potatoes were ok, the layer of cheese over them was not necessary. The cabbage tasted like cabbage, it was good, but too small a portion I thought. My husband had the Gyro with fries. The fries were greasy, and the gyro was what you would expect from a gyro. This place is kid friendly featuring a kids menu and coloring sheets with crayons. A strange experience: I've been a regular for several years. There was a billing error on our most recent visit: $69 charged to my CCard instead of $45. When I pointed this out to our server, she corrected it then tried to explain that 2 charges might appear on my card. Being old and half-deaf, masked speech is hard to follow and I became frustrated. We recently went to Madrona Arms for a casual date night and I was so blown away by the service. Servers definitely enforced mask wearing. The food here is fine, kind of elevated bar food. Most recently, my husband had a MASSIVE French dip sandwich and I got the mussels. The mussels were ok but the broth was super flavorful and a little spicy. This came with bread for dipping. Great seasonal cocktails, like hot toddys, a fall mule, and old fashioned, plus a good sized beer list. We had two different employees check in with us and they were both so friendly!! Our server also made a suggestion when I ordered a sweet drink to go with my meal, recommending a crisp white wine instead that would pair better with the mussels - she was right!! I live in the hood and have ordered take-out several times from the Arms. I keep going back cuz it's so convenient, but after 4 mixed up orders in a row, I give up. The veggie burger became a regular hamburger - twice. I fed them to the dog because the vegetarian won't eat them. The kid's plain burger arrived with cheese and other stuff that adults find delightful, but kids won't touch. I couldn't get the cheese off, so the dog got lucky again.
