I don't understand the 4 and 5 star reviews. The fish is cooked to a correct temperature, yes. The clam chowder came with a cilantro garnish ‍ and was pretty bland. The tartar sauce has ZERO flavor. The beer is warm and served in warm glasses. We sat at the bar and still experienced mediocre service. The cod fish and chips was just one long log. We were recommended the "Tour of Scotland" (Whiskey flight) it contains 'a 1/2 oz pour of signature whiskey from five areas of Scotland' It was mixed bag, all pretty strong so if you're looking to warm up with something beyond coffee, that'll do it for you. I love this place! I had a long layover and came here with my nephew for dinner. From the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted. The fish and chips were delightful! Flaky fish with a slightly sweet, crisp batter accompanied by in house tartar sauce. The fries were perfect and they had malt vinegar at the table as an accompaniment. The Shepherds Pie did not disappoint with its savory gravy topped with perfectly textured mash potato. Dessert? We HAD to order the Sticky Toffee Pudding and so very glad we did! The Sunday farmers market was just wrapping up and the place was just opening when we arrived. Our waitress was AWESOME. Deep-fried Mars bar with ice cream and sticky toffee pudding served with a mountain of whipped cream. We even received an extra plate of deep-fried Snickers bar for free. As for drinks, we paired our food with Belhaven Scottish ale, McEwan's Scotch Ale, Blood & Sand, and Robert Burns. What a lovely meal. Deep-fried Mars bar and Scotch egg were the highlights of the meal. Scotch egg - a soft-boiled egg wrapped in layers of sausage meat and breadcrumbs and deep-fried. All the component parts fit together beautifully. Deep-fried Mars bar - the thought of deep-frying a Mars bar seemed criminal. The outside had a lovely crunch, and the inside was incredibly gooey. It was packed with all the flavors that we loved about a Mars bar. Macleod's has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and it is so much more than just another pub on Ballard. Although the food was great, I was eager to leave a review on the customer service alone. It's tough to find a place to get into in Ballard on a Saturday night without a reservation and the gentleman at the front was unbelievably welcoming and got us in right away!
