Scotch flight and fish and chips! I didn't think this kind of perfect existed. One of my go-to spots to take friends and family when they visit Seattle. You don't need to wait for company though, you should just go now. read more

Tried to eat here tonight on 9/17/2026. Walked in at 9pm asked if it's ok to sit outside. Bar tender said yes. I sat down, waitress comes outside and asks the people who were seated outside to move inside as they are no longer serving anyone outside even though they were seated before I even got there. I got completely ignored, zero acknowledgement, so after she told the others to leave their table she walked right by and ignores me as she goes back inside. I got up and looked for another restaurant nearby but didn't notice anything obvious so got in my car and left. What a piss poor experience. As I walked off the waitress started yelling down the street asking if I was coming back. I said no because you kicked the other people out and ignored me while you walked back inside. Then tries to tell me the one and only table im sitting at outside is available and isn't being closed. I literally just heard her say that all the outside seating wont be serviced 1 hour before they close. I was supposed to have mental telepathy apparently and know that she's going to keep 1 table open and close the rest? How about you service people that are seated instead of announcing that you won't service them unless they move? Terrible waitress. Won't be back. read more

Perfect Sunday Find - Crispy Halibut & Unexpectedly Amazing Mashed Peas! We stopped by on a sunny Sunday while out for a walk, just planning to grab a drink--but ended up having one of the best fish & chips I've had in a while. The halibut was perfectly fried: crispy on the outside, tender and flaky inside. The fries were a bit on the softer side, but still flavorful. Surprisingly, the star of the dish for me was the mashed peas--bright, creamy, and elevated by a touch of lemon that brought everything to life. We paired the meal with a dry cider, which went beautifully with the fish. Such a spontaneous and satisfying find. I'd definitely come back--especially for those peas! read more

We dropped into Macleod's for a bite before a show at The Tractor Tavern, and it ended up being the perfect choice for a pre-concert meal. There are a variety of seating options from open bar, large tables, quant upstairs, and booths with tall backs. The walls are filled with a myriad of Scottish memorabilia that give you something to talk about wherever you look. The kitchen doesn't skimp here--the portions were very generous, and everything was delicious. Salmon Sandwich, fresh and flavorful. Cod Fish & Chips, perfectly crispy and classic. Shepherd's Pie, hearty, savory, and exactly what you want from a pub. We ventured into the specialty cocktail menu and weren't disappointed. Both the Sea Legs and the Island Flight Special were well-balanced and a great start to the night. read more

Ambiance is wonderful, especially on a cold day. Food was also solid. We liked the shrimp tacos the best, ironically (since not Scottish). Happy hour is even on the weekend. Service unfortunately left some things to be desired. We sat down and were welcomed in, and then no one took our order for 20 min. We went from trying to catch the waitresses eye (she turned around and seemed to avoid us) to gesturing, to calling out to her- she responded "one second" and then sent someone else over. Granted, they were busy, but the avoidance was very odd. Also, the Guinness was not well poured. read more

Definitely more pub than restaurant. But my friends and I came here for food and according to them, the fish and chips were pretty disappointing. Dry and battered to hell. Lucky for me, I got the Salmon burger which turned out alright. The fries were okay. It's solid pub food. Cocktails were fine too. No real complaints from me. Especially since I thought the Scotch egg was done pretty well. Enjoyed the little stuff than came with it on the side too. It's like an appetizer with mini appetizers! Service was great and the ambiance is just so-so for me. Dim lighting and cramped space for big groups. Also, there's no hostess so you just find an open table and seat yourself. Someone will notice you came in and hand you menus. Not sure about that process, but seemed like it worked fine. read more

I don't understand the 4 and 5 star reviews. The fish is cooked to a correct temperature, yes. The clam chowder came with a cilantro garnish ‍ and was pretty bland. The tartar sauce has ZERO flavor. The beer is warm and served in warm glasses. We sat at the bar and still experienced mediocre service. The cod fish and chips was just one long log. In Seattle, I just think there are many more flavorful fish spots. I'm not a picky eater, but I definitely won't be back. read more

During our vacay in Seattle we were craving some delish fish & chips and tried this fun pub in Ballard. Nice , dim vibe with chill music. The service was quick and the food & drink came out promptly. The servers were nice and helpful. We ordered the Ling Cod fish & chips with mushy peas. The fish is pretty thick and the batter was crispy & just right. It was definitely just enough for the 2 of us. A bit pricey & def worth the price. Also had a glass of wine & a beer. The pub was 2 stories and had ample room to sit at the bar, booth or table. Cool area with lots of shops, bars & restaurants. Parking is a little difficult but we were able to find a free parking space around the corner. Would love to go there during St Patrick Day!! read more

It's a good pub. If this were a restaurant, then I'd say the service is slow and not that good (although not bad). However, it's a pub so expectations on service are lower. The food is good for what it is, which is pub food, although the cod cakes were a particularly unexpected treat. On a nice day, you can't beat a table on the patio because it's a really pleasant ambiance. read more

A bit overpriced for what they have to offer. The food was decently authentic but the serving size and quality doesn't quite live up to the bill. Bartender was somewhat clueless. Gazing off into space as opposed to asking us for a second round. He seemed more engaged by the soccer game on the TV. We were stopping by here on our way to a concert but it's unlikely we will be back. read more

Very pleasant room in the very pleasant south Ballard restaurant row, and good service from our waiter, Adam, I think his name was. Most of us ordered fish and chips and thought that it was pretty good--only pretty good, not great. Fries could have been hotter too. Parking is on the street and can be tough sometimes, but be persistent--you'll find a spot. read more

Oh it this pub took me back to Scotland. The dark leather and wooden structured interior. The food was delicious and served hot. The fish was crispy and flakey. The house made tartar sauce was that perfect tangy and creamy sauce for the fish. My favorite was the scotch egg with the mustard sauce and the pickled sides! I wished it came with 2 whole eggs for the price but everything is pricey now a days. The service was quick and efficient and family friendly the way a pub should be! read more

Food: They're famous for their fish and chips. After a day at the farmer's market, it was nice to sit with a hot meal. The batter was light although it was a bit heavily fried. Fish tasted fresh and was flaky and well seasoned. Sticky Toffee Pudding was yummy. Service: We were seated and tended to quickly. Server was efficient and friendly but allowed us space. Ambiance: Think "Cheers" ( yes, THAT show). Traditional, dark, warm, leather booths, heavy wooden pub chairs. Just perfect for a cold night. read more

British/Irish-inspired pub in Ballard with decent service and relaxed vibes. Prices are a bit high for what you get. The Tatanka cocktail (not pictured) had a nice balance of flavors but tasted a bit watered down. They have a fairly extensive food menu, of which we tried the fish and chips (cod option) and shepherd's pie. The fish comes as one giant piece, and while it was cooked well it was mostly batter. The shepherd's pie was tasty but the portion is really small for the price. Probably won't be back but the shepherd's pie is worth a try if it's your first time. read more

A regular at MaCleod's! I'm a Brit and so I grew up with fish and chips. This is some of the very best I've had anywhere. The bar is a beautiful space, the decor is perfectly done and it feels like a genuine Scottish pub (not a fake 'experience' bar). Warm, cozy and great service. They literally have 200+ Whiskey's if that's your thing. A cozy upstairs area. It gets busy and lively on weekends, and is a relaxed spot during the week. Check it out :) read more

5 of us sat down at 11pm. One person ordered food while the other 4 looked at the menu. Waitress Jules came over and said the kitchen is closed. No warning. No timeline set. Just: 4 of you watch your one friend eat their food. I'm dumbfounded at this result. Don't bother expecting any semblance of logic. read more

Solid spot for fish and chips or scotch or both. Whatever suits your fancy. Macleod's Fish & Chips Scottish Pub is a fun restaurant that transports you to Scotland in the Ballard neighborhood. Ya gotta try the famous fish and chips at least once. We visited Macleod's for happy hour when they had some discounted cocktails and bites. I ordered a Manhattan, which was solid, and my partner and I shared the cod fish and chips, which was tasty. At Macleod's, you have a choice of cod, salmon or halibut for fish and chips, and you can't go wrong with any of them. The batter was good, with flaky cod and crispy chips/fries with smashed peas on the side. It satisfies your fish and chips craving. The corner restaurant in Ballard has a nice outdoor, covered patio area where it's dog friendly. Come here for the fish and chips and looong whiskey list, which makes for a grand ol' time. read more

Aloha, the adorable town of Ballard is known for its Sunday farmer's market with over 200 vendors. We ventured there and at the mid-afternoon had lunch at Macleods. A cute corner pub with cool historic info on the walls. It was fun reading and recognizing peeps. Good beers complimented our lunch. The food was good but a little pricey for the size of the dishes. 2 small pieces of fish with fries was over $20+. Oh well. Enjoy! read more

Basing this off of our 30-45 min stop there to drink some scotch. Our bartender was very helpful in picking our drinks and was fun to talk to. They have a massive selection of scotch to choose from. Has to be one of the more stocked selection of scotch on the west coast. The decor and layout of the bar was pretty cool. They also had a small upstairs for those that want to get away from the noise downstairs. read more

Macleod's if the name doesn't give it away is an Irish pub with drinks to spare. There is an emphasis on whiskeys. Not sure which to try? They've got you covered with the whiskey flight. Doing a little bit of bar hopping with a trio, we stopped in here to see a spirited crowd with a few bartenders doing service which was cool. We were recommended the "Tour of Scotland" (Whiskey flight) it contains 'a 1/2 oz pour of signature whiskey from five areas of Scotland' It was mixed bag, all pretty strong so if you're looking to warm up with something beyond coffee, that'll do it for you. We didn't eat anything on this visit, but I'd consider trying some of their menu items. It's in a fitting place to do bar hopping. The menu contains some expected favorites - Fish & Chips, clam chowder, a fish sandwich but curiously - The Scotch egg. Maybe on the next visit. read more

Warm, cozy, dark ambiance. Stopped in before dinner elsewhere for some drinks. The nitro beer was smooth and creamy and the penicillin cocktail had a nice zing without it being too punchy, maybe the honey rounded out the ginger & lemon. I love this place! I had a long layover and came here with my nephew for dinner. From the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted. The fish and chips were delightful! Flaky fish with a slightly sweet, crisp batter accompanied by in house tartar sauce. The fries were perfect and they had malt vinegar at the table as an accompaniment. The Shepherds Pie did not disappoint with its savory gravy topped with perfectly textured mash potato. Dessert? We HAD to order the Sticky Toffee Pudding and so very glad we did! A perfect ending to a hearty meal! The decor creates a perfect atmosphere of the pubs I am familiar with from Ireland; and yes, I know it is Scottish! I highly recommend Macleod's! read more

Asked a local patron at a tavern we were at what place has the best fish and chips in the area and he suggested this place, so off we went. The Sunday farmers market was just wrapping up and the place was just opening when we arrived. Our waitress was AWESOME. We all had a beer and got some appetizers because we wanted to walk down to the locks/fish ladder before coming back for dinner. The Scotch egg was very good, but the deep fried oysters had too much cornmeal breading which masked the actual oyster taste. Happy hour prices were nice. After visiting the locks, we headed back for the much anticipated fish and chips. Well, we were disappointed. The fish itself was very good, but the batter was soggy and actually slid right off the cod fillet. The clam chowder was solid. Again the service was off the hook, but the fish and chips left us greatly disappointed. read more

Wow, what an impressive night! Adam, Betsy, and Grace were working this Thursday, and even with the place absolutely packed, they stayed friendly, quick, and upbeat. From my seat at the bar, I could see just how much they were juggling, yet you'd never know it from how smoothly everything ran. I've always loved this spot, and experiences like this are exactly why I'll keep coming back. Food, ambiance, and an epic team! Truly a Seattle gem! read more

My favorite part about Macleod's (pronounced mc-clouds) is the overall atmosphere. Its got a solid Scottish Pub kind of vibe, wooden stools, bars, and tables, Whiskey bottles all around the place, Scottish flags, and a taxidermy Highland Cattle head behind the bar. I could sum it up as dark, cozy, and classy. I have not tried the food, as I have only hungout on the bar side, but the drinks are good and prices are Seattle standard. Service is good, usually not too much of a line and the folks are nice. read more

Delicious fish and chips paired with excellent service and pleasant atmosphere make Macleod's a must-visit in Ballard

My friend and I went to Macleod's on New Year's Eve for a little and quiet end-of-year celebration. It was a perfect choice as we enjoyed a fantastic dinner, beautiful drinks, and delicious desserts. For mains, we enjoyed fish and chips, fish tacos, and Scotch egg. It was New Year's Eve, so we decided to order all sweets. Deep-fried Mars bar with ice cream and sticky toffee pudding served with a mountain of whipped cream. We even received an extra plate of deep-fried Snickers bar for free. As for drinks, we paired our food with Belhaven Scottish ale, McEwan's Scotch Ale, Blood & Sand, and Robert Burns. What a lovely meal. Deep-fried Mars bar and Scotch egg were the highlights of the meal. Scotch egg - a soft-boiled egg wrapped in layers of sausage meat and breadcrumbs and deep-fried. All the component parts fit together beautifully. Deep-fried Mars bar - the thought of deep-frying a Mars bar seemed criminal. The outside had a lovely crunch, and the inside was incredibly gooey. It was packed with all the flavors that we loved about a Mars bar. Macleod's has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and it is so much more than just another pub on Ballard. Will definitely be going back. read more

Although the food was great, I was eager to leave a review on the customer service alone. It's tough to find a place to get into in Ballard on a Saturday night without a reservation and the gentleman at the front was unbelievably welcoming and got us in right away! Great service throughout the meal too. Staff is on point! For that reason I would 10/10 recommend this place. Aside from service, the food was great. I got cod and chips. They give you a giant piece of cod that is beautiful and flaky on the inside, perfectly cooked, and ultra crunchy on the outside with the batter they use. Fries are skin-on which I love! Also, their tarter sauce is really good and fresh which I think was a nice balance. They also have an array of beer/cider/wine ect and was impressed with their massive selection of scotch options! We were visiting at sunset and we were set outside on the street under a canopy with beautiful lights and lots of happy customers nearby enjoying the night as well which gave such a great atmosphere.
