I don't understand the 4 and 5 star reviews. The fish is cooked to a correct temperature, yes. The clam chowder came with a cilantro garnish ‍ and was pretty bland. The tartar sauce has ZERO flavor. The beer is warm and served in warm glasses. We sat at the bar and still experienced mediocre service. The cod fish and chips was just one long log. The servers were nice and helpful. We ordered the Ling Cod fish & chips with mushy peas. The fish is pretty thick and the batter was crispy & just right. It was definitely just enough for the 2 of us. A bit pricey & def worth the price. Also had a glass of wine & a beer. The pub was 2 stories and had ample room to sit at the bar, booth or table. Cool area with lots of shops, bars & restaurants. Parking is a little difficult but we were able to find a free parking space around the corner. Oh it this pub took me back to Scotland. The dark leather and wooden structured interior. The food was delicious and served hot. The fish was crispy and flakey. The house made tartar sauce was that perfect tangy and creamy sauce for the fish. My favorite was the scotch egg with the mustard sauce and the pickled sides! Aloha, the adorable town of Ballard is known for its Sunday farmer's market with over 200 vendors. We ventured there and at the mid-afternoon had lunch at Macleods. A cute corner pub with cool historic info on the walls. It was fun reading and recognizing peeps. Good beers complimented our lunch. Macleod's if the name doesn't give it away is an Irish pub with drinks to spare. There is an emphasis on whiskeys. Not sure which to try? They've got you covered with the whiskey flight. Doing a little bit of bar hopping with a trio, we stopped in here to see a spirited crowd with a few bartenders doing service which was cool. We were recommended the "Tour of Scotland" (Whiskey flight) it contains 'a 1/2 oz pour of signature whiskey from five areas of Scotland' It was mixed bag, all pretty strong so if you're looking to warm up with something beyond coffee, that'll do it for you. We didn't eat anything on this visit, but I'd consider trying some of their menu items. It's in a fitting place to do bar hopping. The Sunday farmers market was just wrapping up and the place was just opening when we arrived. Our waitress was AWESOME. My friend and I went to Macleod's on New Year's Eve for a little and quiet end-of-year celebration. It was a perfect choice as we enjoyed a fantastic dinner, beautiful drinks, and delicious desserts. For mains, we enjoyed fish and chips, fish tacos, and Scotch egg. It was New Year's Eve, so we decided to order all sweets. Deep-fried Mars bar with ice cream and sticky toffee pudding served with a mountain of whipped cream. We even received an extra plate of deep-fried Snickers bar for free. As for drinks, we paired our food with Belhaven Scottish ale, McEwan's Scotch Ale, Blood & Sand, and Robert Burns. What a lovely meal. Deep-fried Mars bar and Scotch egg were the highlights of the meal. Scotch egg - a soft-boiled egg wrapped in layers of sausage meat and breadcrumbs and deep-fried. All the component parts fit together beautifully. Deep-fried Mars bar - the thought of deep-frying a Mars bar seemed criminal. The outside had a lovely crunch, and the inside was incredibly gooey. It was packed with all the flavors that we loved about a Mars bar. Macleod's has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and it is so much more than just another pub on Ballard. Although the food was great, I was eager to leave a review on the customer service alone. It's tough to find a place to get into in Ballard on a Saturday night without a reservation and the gentleman at the front was unbelievably welcoming and got us in right away! They give you a giant piece of cod that is beautiful and flaky on the inside, perfectly cooked, and ultra crunchy on the outside with the batter they use. Fries are skin-on which I love!
