My husband and I were looking for ramen on our way to our parked car, however, we ended up going to Kells because the hankering of a Guinness was greater than ramen in that instance of time. We ordered the Irish chowder, and corned beef and cabbage with mash potatoes, and a glass of Guinness beer. The chowder tasted like any chowder I had before but this came with soda bread, and the bread was really good. The corned beef dish was also delicious. Lots of flavor to it and certainly not salty. The cabbage (carrots and string beans) paired well with the mash and the beef. Service was quick and non- bothersome. Our waiter came to check in when they needed to and not when we were about to stuff food in our mouth which happens far too often than I would like to share. As for the establishment itself, it is quite dark, which all align with what pubs would be. Interesting to say though that the walls were adorned with art and the right pillar where we sat had a frame of what looked to be a collection of irish stamps. I needed a Smithwick's. I frequently went to Kell's, but that was a long time ago. At Kell's today you can get a Guinness and beer they brew themselves. Bartender recommended - no, suggested - a red ale similar to Smithwick's. It is not Smithwick's. I don't really remember the food, and I suspect that's a good thing. I asked the waiter if the corned beef and cabbage was good. He said, "We are an Irish bar." When gently pressed, he added, "A lot of people order it." The staff doesn't seem to think there's much to recommend at Kell's these days and I'm inclined to agree. 3 stars for some good memories, they still put on live music, and the fact that while nothing was great, nothing was terrible either. read more

This place is tucked away in an alley next to a tea shop. The service was super friendly and fast. We did not have to wait for a table since we picked one of the barrel tables and just had a couple of beers. My boyfriend had their stout which was a great alternative to Guinness. It was pretty smooth and not too overbearing like some dark beers tend to be. I ordered their seasoned which was pumpkin. It was surprisingly good! I was completely ready to not like it but was successfully proven wrong. We spent some time sipping on our beer, people watching, and talking, and there was not a single time we felt rushed to leave or pressured to order more which I personally appreciate. Good ol Irish bar!! Fun spot, decently big and mix of tables and places to sit/drink/eat. Every time I have been there has been live music, sports games on and lots of people. The bartenders have always been very friendly and quick! You can order food as well as drinks. We got the halibut, house salad and burger - all of it was definitely a little plain/on the smaller side for portions but does the job for dinner and it is more of a pub. It was ok. In searching for a restaurant for dinner for 5 people, it wasn't exactly easy to find a reservation somewhere near Pike Place. So we wound up here. When we walked in, we were told to just find a seat. Another staffer later came up to us and told us the table we chose was reserved. I then mentioned we had a reservation (since we hadn't been asked). And oh, that table was indeed for us. But the table was right by the kitchen door. After another group left, we were able to move over to another table that didn't feel like we were in the way. Note that the music is loud. It was difficult to hear each other. And the lighting is very dim. Sadly, I have now, apparently, reached the age where I need to use my phone light to read a menu. The ambiance and vibe is basically what you would expect from a rundown Irish pub. Soccer games on the TVs, mostly Irish music, various pics and items of an Irish-theme. Kinda all wooden and creaky. Now, to be fair, it seemed like there was primarily one server who was also the bartender, and then a couple of runners. So she was incredibly busy. The menu was plentiful. Lots of choices for everyone and everyone was able to find something to their liking. The food was ok. Not great, but not bad either. Wouldn't seek this spot out for the food. Sat at the bar for some beer. We had heard this place was "super" haunted as the bar was built into the back of a mortuary. We talked to the two bartenders and one said he'd seen some things and the other said she'd never seen anything. The beer was alright, the vibes were that of a regular bar. What I thought was so weird was how trusting the bartenders were with the cash near and at the register. This was a tough one to review. The food was SPECTACULAR but the service was SOOOO HORRIBLE!! We sat at our table and watched the server (tall guy with dark hair, beard, and suspenders) go to 3 tables around us and literally skip our table. I don't even know why....but after 15mins of waiting I finally went up to the bar and asked the bartender if we could order. She was so very sweet and came right to our table and took our order. I really wish she had remained our server because after that we had to continue to get our own utensils and napkins, plus basically wave frantically to get the server's attention as he continued to keep his back to our table. The atmosphere was wonderful and very Irish Pub-like. We appreciated the Irish music playing and watched the Seattle Rugby game which was quite enjoyable. There was an Irish band that started setting up as we were leaving and they sounded grand. I wish we could have stayed but we're exhausted from a long day. Now for the food (and I wish I could have tipped the kitchen and not our server)....it was PHENOMENAL! We had the Jameson whiskey wings which were super meaty and had a great tangy flavor. The sausage roll was full of so much flavor and brought us right back to Ireland!! Then we had the Irish pizza and were surprised at the amount of flavor as well as the big chunks of tasty corned beef. BRAVO to the chefs who are making such fantastic food! Wasn't expecting much but this came to be one of our favorite meals on the trip. We had the crab dip, salmon entree and halibut entree. Both entrees were served with veggies and potatoes at $30ish dollars a pop, which is pretty average for the area. Finished with a brownie but would probably skip next time. Service was friendly. I have loved Kell's and been going there since 1988. Love the ambiance. The service was better 3/17/26 than the year before. The bartenders in the actual bar were really good! The food is always good. BUT, when I arrived at 11 am on St Patty's Day, I found out no cover was being charged. They didn't say this right away and gladly accepted my prepaid cover without giving me a wristband band. Also, I was told, "The t-shirt aren't out yet." When I saw the owner go into the back of the bar to get medium and large T's, saying "but we are out of smalls, " I went to the door to get a t-shirt. Again I was turned away after the T's didn't show up after a wait. I was sitting near the entrance at the time, so I continued to watch. Some folks gut T's. My third try was asking the owner about the T's. He said he only "had black smalls." Great. He started up stairs as I said I'd wait. He said he would come find me in the restaurant. Ok. We ate lunch and waited awhile in the restaurant. He never came to find me. I kept an eye out and eventually gave up. We were there all afternoon and early evening. It was not crowded until about 5:30 pm. Next time, I won't be buying a ticket early because they may not have cover on a weekday. Also if you run out of t-shirts, just say that instead of playing games. Not impressed, as some folks were getting the T's. read more

This place popped up on my radar when looking up happy hours in the area around Pikes Market. We also stumbled on walking through Post Alley. Cute little Irish pub and a typically Irish pub menu. We had a few cocktails and tried the Jameson whiskey wings. They had a great flavor and were cooked well, just wish they had a little more sauce. Also got a cup of clam chowder. It tasted good but was a bit watery and heavy on the celery root. Nice and warm though for a cool rainy day. We watched some college football and enjoyed our drinks before we had to head back to the airport. Who doesn't like an Irish Pub? I like to visit an Irish pub anytime I travel and have the option. I went to Kells and had an old fashioned which was good. It was nice weather so we opted to eat outside. Not a bad decision, but in retrospect, we should've eaten inside. The outside area is adjacent to a lot of foot traffic. The menu has a decent selection of Irish dishes. My buddy wanted to try the calamari, so we ordered it. I don't like to be negative, but I was expecting the guy in the yellow rain suit (yes, the Gorton Fisherman) to come out and asked how we liked it. Better seafood at Long John Silver. It took over 10 minutes for the waitress to come by the table. Strike One. I ordered Clam Chowder to start with and Corn beef and cabbage. They both came at the same time. Strike two. The clam chowder was good. The corn beef and cabbage was cold, the corn beef was slightly warm but the potatoes, cabbage and carrots were cold. I do not mean room temperature, I mean cold. Strike three. The waitress was nowhere to be seen so I just at it. First bite of the vegetables and I notice there is no seasoning, just bland potatoes and bland undercooked carrots and cabbage. At the end of the day, Kells will do fine however I review it. Kells is an institution. (Literally where my sister and her husband met in 2012..) A great Irish restaurant and bar located at Pike Place Market in the Alley. The space is large and plenty of seating even for groups. To start, the service was perfect and everything came out in a reasonable time. The food was fantastic as well as the drinks. My favorite was the Irish Benedict that had tender corned beef topped with poached eggs and a side of crispy potatoes. Also, the Irish breakfast was delicious with a flavorful banger. Super disappointed. Not 100% sure they have even met an Irish person??? Server seemed very irritated that we interrupted his day with one other table. Got frustrated when I asked about drinks (ya know the Dr Pepper? No, coke? No Pepsi etc conversation) because there was no non alcoholic drinks listed. I said ask them (there were 4 of us ordering but 3 adults) he just walked away. Finally came back over. Ordered. Drinks and food at once. Specifically asked if the fish and chips was breaded or beer batter. He said beer batter. We ordered: 2 cocktails ($16 each - will come back into play), lemonade, crab dip, soda bread, fries for the non adult, grilled salmon, fish & chips, braised short ribs. Crab dip was spicy (for me but I'm a baby) but it was good but minimal crab - for a crab dip you would expect crab to feature heavily. The soda bread was good. The cocktails came in whisky glasses - and were mostly ice - one was good one was not. But again mostly ice. The fries - the 3yr old enjoyed them. Food came - fish and chips was breaded and about 4mm thick. I said that's breaded touched it - it was, told the rest of the party to tell them I don't want it when they come and do the "3 min check". I then took 3yr old AND my service dog to the bathroom - so wrangling a 3yr old onto the toilet while a service dog looks after me; then I made it to the bathroom with a 3yr old and a service dog entertaining me in the stall; managed to wash hands 4 times under 2 taps; dried hands twice did a little run around the bathroom; washed hands again; corralled 3yr old out and back to the table. They hadn't done a "check in". Salmon was so far past cooked - they did try to eat it and it was just not fresh and not good. The fish was breaded / the 3yr old tried it and it was super dry. The braised ribs were so dry and tough - a knife was needed and they needed water to eat. Small bite of ribs, fish, 1/4 salmon. Waiter came back asked how it was. Told him honestly terrible - explained the issues. He said "no that's batter - I said no it's not it's breaded - see the little bits that's breading". He said (about the ribs) "they are cooked"... yes they are but they are over cooked; braised short ribs shouldn't be hard and dry. He said "so what do you want me to do about it?". I said "well you can take these we won't eat them. I'm happy to pay for these - indicating the appetizers and drinks". He said "uhh...." And took the meals and went to speak to someone? He came back and said "that's $77". So for two drinks small fries and crab dip. Absolutely do not recommend. Very unfriendly. Menu is not Irish. Food is bad. Just don't. read more

Wanted to eat at the Pink Door across the way but I never made a reservation and the wait was 2 hours long so we decided to sit outside in the beautiful Seattle air on Kelly's Restuarant Patio. Came here for a pre-game meetup on New Year's before the Seahawks game also the following day. Kells is pretty large, and my party was in the back room which held two bars (only one in use), a large projector screen (showing whatever game is on) and a small stage for a performer to use. The back area was spacious with plenty of tables and counter seating as well as standing tables. This particular visit had a problem and that is it was PACKED. Between our meetup featuring over 20 people and it being New Year's Eve AND there was another Post Alley meetup unrelated to ours going on it was pretty darn busy in here and only got Moreso as the night went on with people all dressed up piling in. By about 10 we decided it was time to pack up. As a result of this, the bar was slammed. If you wanted a drink, you'd be waiting in line a good 10 minutes or more. There were only 2 bartenders and I think food service just stopped as the guy (who now was pouring drinks) couldn't bring out food. Even the boss had to jump in and help clear tables. At least I think he was the boss. He had sport jacket on. I only had a few beers. It was loud and getting cocktails just seemed like a bad idea as I could tell the bartenders were getting slammed and frustrated. That all said I'm sure this is a cool pub and would like to try their Irish Mac & cheese, but maybe on a night that isn't New Years. read more

Come here a few times a year for football watch parties. I have always ranted and raved about their short ribs and their curry sauce with fries. Sadly, the short ribs are gone, and they changed the curry sauce to be nothing special. It's a fun environment, but the menu has gotten way worse. Idk if it's a new cook or what.
