The bartender said Screwdriver Bar. I looked it up, closed my tab, and walked over to Screwdriver Bar which was a short walk back to my hotel. Score! First off don't get confused. There is one (1) door attendant possibly for two venues?! I want to say there was a venue on top of this bar. Either way I saw Screwdriver Bar was downstairs so be sure you kinda know where you are going. Screwdriver Bar is (seemingly) free from a cover. I walked down the steps and entered a whole world of vinyl records, throw back artwork and memorabilia that filled the very top of the ceiling all the way down to the tables and floor. This spot made me feel welcomed right off the bat with laughter, people dancing, and a busy bar staff serving up all the drinks from tallboys to fancy hand shaken cocktails. I really enjoyed my time here when I visited. On the menu I thought I saw a dumpling type of food situation going on. I know I smelled good warm food smells but I did not have a chance to order anything (I ate somewhere else). Mostly locals here which made me feel good as the recommendation was spot on and the others here were all having a great time which was the vibe I needed during my stay in Belltown.

It had that classic Irish pub feel, and it was fairly dim inside, which fit the vibe well. We stopped in during the early afternoon, so it wasn't too busy. We didn't stay long.. just enjoyed our drinks and then continued exploring the waterfront. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'd definitely stop in again if I was in the area and looking for a quick drink.

I'm sorry, I know you had to tend to the next people, but you didn't even give us a chance to tell you what we alternatively wanted instead. That was rude. And then they ignored my group for ten minutes until we were finally able to grab their attention again. We ended up ordering a Guinness for everyone, and paid the tab right away. The bartenders then took the tab back, and took care of the other customers. We saw them pour our Guinness, but then left it sitting back there for quite a bit. We were just straight staring at it, wondering if we were going to be handed it? It wasn't until we spoke up that they gave our drinks to us. It was served in plastic cups which isn't a big issue, but I liked the glass cups better from the previous bar we went to. After that we brought our drinks over to whichever table was open in the side room. Not the cleanest pub as the only table we were able to get was filled with many empty cups and cans piled in the middle of the table. Again, I understand it was a busy night, but there could have been at least one staff member going around the place making sure things get cleaned up. It was also quite warm in the main room, but luckily the side room had a window opened for cool air. To be completely honest though, if it wasn't for the live music and environment - Owl'n Thistle would've earned my first ever one star review. Maybe on a normal night I would want to give this place another chance due to the holiday circumstances, but other reviews on a normal day seems to describe a similar disappointing experience.

Unfortunately, the experience is consistently dampened by one of weekend bartenders. As others have mentioned, it's that taller bartender (Alex?) who repeatedly comes across as arrogant and dismissive to us; a less than desirable character trait for a bartender. It's such a pity because that is the sole reason we now lead our groups to spend their money and patronize other establishments instead. Recently we did give Diller another try, but sadly it's the same story and thus this feedback. Hospitality makes a HUGE difference. Bartending isn't just about making a good drink and expecting tips. As someone who tended bar all over Seattle for 23 years, I know how much energy and attitude shape a guest's night. When the service feels cold and passive-aggressively rude, it's hard to feel good about the experience. It's disappointing, because this place has so much potential. Hopefully management considers bringing in weekend staff whose personalities reflect the warmth and atmosphere the space deserves, there are plenty of more qualified bartenders in Seattle that would gladly fill their spot.
