Came here after St. Matzie for a late dinner. We ordered the Margherita and 1/2 pepperoni and sausage for $40. Pizza was on the pricier end but the quality was there! The dough had a great undercarriage and was perfectly seasoned. The tomato sauce wasn't sweet and had a deep flavor. The toppings were plentiful. We waited a long time so the worker gave us 2 potato slices as we waited which was nice.
The sourdough fad continues! My meal at Leo was one i won't soon forget. A candlelit solo dinner on the backend of a busy dinner service was liberating and relaxing. Oh, and the food was superb. Complimented by an amaro highball, my meatballs and mushroom pizza were absolutely superb. Juicy meatballs with a rich marinara and a bit of focaccia to pair! The pizza was amazing. A slight tang in the crust. The green offer some crunch, texture and bit of acidity with the vinegar. Good lord I just love a mushroom pie!
For ice cream FANTASTIC!!! Always a yes to pistachio and strawberry. Store smelled super strange tho lol like we almost left but glad we didn't
This was some of the best pizza I've had in NYC. It's more of a rustic Neapolitan style pizza, with a slightly thicker crust than the Italian staple. The flavor is incredibly well developed - distinctly sourdough flavored - and the texture is perfect, with a slight crispiness and an airy crumb on the inside with strong structure. I tried two pizzas, the margherita and the papa madre. The margherita was nice for trying the pizza crust in a "pure" form. The papa madre goes off the deep end on toppings - some bitterness, brightness, and crunch from dandelion greens dressed in lemon, fluffy potatoes, and a variety of cheeses. This was a really unique flavor profile for pizza. I managed to get a reservation just a day or two before for 11:30 am on a Sunday, but it started to get busy towards the end of my visit. The bill worked out to $55 for the two pizzas, and it was worth every penny.
Leo is a Neapolitan-style pizzeria, bakery and café that opened in Brooklyn, New York in December 2019. It was founded by restaurateurs and business partners Mike Fadem, Gavin Compton, Joey Scalabrino and Thomas Traudt. Along with restaurateur Marie Tribouilloy, Fadem and Compton originally opened another Neapolitan-style pizzeria, Ops, in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood in 2016. Compton is also the owner of NYC coffee chain Variety Coffee Roasters, which opened its first location in 2008. Following the success of Ops, Fadem and Compton decided to team up with Scalabrino and Traudt to open a new pizzeria in Williamsburg. Unlike the wood-fired oven at Ops, the oven at Leo is an electric Pizza Master oven. Leo is a sit-down restaurant that can accommodate about 70 people. The main focus of the menu is their artisanal sourdough pizzas, but they also serve pasta dishes, burgers, antipasti, and a weekend brunch menu. Next door to the main dining room, however, is a take-out bakery and café that serves slices (both Neapolitan and Roman-style al taglio squares), sandwiches, bread loaves and bagels. Fadem is the pizza master, Scalabrino was the head chef, and Traudt is the head baker. Scalabrino later left Leo to open Apollo Bagels. I visited Leo this past summer while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn and Queens breweries and pizzerias and this was my third stop of the day. The pizzeria had been on my bucket list for a while. I grabbed myself a seat at the bar in the main dining room. The staff told me that the pizzas could take a little while and that I might be interested in ordering an appetizer first. I enjoyed a plate of "Olives" as I sipped on a delicious "Spritz". For pizza, I decided to order the one which sounded the most unusual to me: the "Papa Madre" (potatoes, dandelion greens, fontina, lemon, oregano). I've enjoyed countless pizza pies with potatoes before (whether mashed or roasted), but never one with dandelion greens before. I have to be honest... it was DELICIOUS! Who would've thought that those annoying weeds that grow on your lawn would make such a good pizza topping?! I was very impressed with my experience at Leo and I hope to return with my family. I give them my seal of approval!
Love this place however last time I ordered their awesome salad, the bowl was 1/3 full and missing half the ingredients. Disappointing. Know this stuff happens and was trying to directly send feedback to store but can't find a way to do so.
Was moving my Daughter into her new apartment and we were hungry. Wanted to try Leo as I had heard great things. We ordered for delivery a d it came quickly. We got the Margherita and the San Giuseppe. The SanGiussepe has spicy sausage, onions, green olives, and provolone. The crust (sourdough) and the char was outstanding. My only complaint is the powdered cheese on top. Everyone else loved it but for me too cheesy. I would come back here in a heartbeat.
Came here for my friend's surprise birthday and we had a blast! The staff did a great job being discreet and leading my friend to our table. Everyone enjoyed their pizza and the cacio e Pepe was amazing. The cocktails were also incredible! Great place for date night or dinner with friends if you're in the area.
which was tasty as well. They might have overdone it a bit with the toasting, but the flavors were still on point. Williamsburg isn't exactly known for its abundance of great bagel places, so Leo's weekend bagels are a godsend. My only complaint is that they're not open during the week. Leo, if you're reading this, please consider blessing us with your bagels 7 days a week!
Very nice restaurant, excellent service. Oysters were yummy, as was the happy hour wine, surprisingly served cold. Sorry no food pics. Pizzas were great and my half roasted chicken was juicy and flavorful. I must say, great French fries!!
Finally returned to eat in the dining room and try the full menu! Our party of 6 walked in at around 6 pm on a Saturday and were seated right away. We ordered: + Caesar salad + Margherita pizza + NY slice pie + Rigatoni + Mascarpone and black cherry soft serve The Caesar was perfect, and the margherita was by far the best of the two pies. Soft serve was also flawless.
I'm not a huge pizza fan (I know, blasphemy living in NYC) but my friend recommended this spot because they use sourdough in their pizza dough (which is new to me). They don't take reservations, but we didn't have an issue being seated at 6 PM on a Friday. We ordered an aperol spritz to start - very refreshing! My friend said it was one of the best aperol spritzs she had in NYC. We ordered the Caesar salad, margarita pizza, and rigatoni. Food came out as they were prepared - I would have preferred everything to come out at once. My favorite dish of the night was the rigatoni - I'm still thinking about it 3 days later.. Pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was divine. I would come back just for the pasta. Caesar salad was huge and more than enough for 2 people to share. They're really generous with the dressing and cheese, so there's no bare lettuce here. The pizza was also pretty good and big enough for 2 to share. The mozzarella was really good and the pizza had a nice crisp. Overall, pretty solid spot for dinner if you are in the area. I heard their bagels are pretty good too, so I'll have to be back for breakfast to try them soon!
I should have not come here. The food is terrific, despite the high prices and small portions. The service is friendly, even though the ambiance is intimate. The location is not too bad, even if it means being roughly a 10 minute walk from Metropolitan Ave-Lorimer St on the G and L trains and Marcy Ave on the J, M, and Z trains. I should not have come here. I felt all out of place. Too many stares from other patrons wondering why I was here. Children of a certain age that I feel should be home. Loud and obnoxious music fueling the evening air. I should not have come here. Instead, I should have went somewhere a bit more subtle. I should have known better than to come here and cheat somebody else of how tasty the dishes are. This really is the Williamsburg version of Ops, which I have been to as well. I feel the same way about that restaurant as to how I feel about this one. I should not have come here.

Solid bagels! They only have bagels on the weekend, and they sell out fast, so be sure to plan ahead. The bagels were fluffy and tasted like they were made with sourdough breading. The everything bagel topping was plentiful, and the cream cheese was solid. The shining star had to be the donut though. I got the cinnamon sugar donut, and my god it was the best donut I've ever had. It was sooo fluffy, yet dense at the same time, which made the texture wonderfully soft and chewy. I think this donut might've changed my life. It was a damn expensive donut at $6, but I think I'd def splurge on it again. read more
tl;dr the chic atmosphere of this pizzeria alludes to its premium slices with stellar sourdough crusts Opened by Mike Fadem and Gavin Compton (the team responsible for Ops) in 2019, Leo is a neighborhood wine bar well-regarded for their naturally leavened Neopolitan-style pizzas. But if you're looking for a cheaper eat, Leo also runs a sophisticated slice shop in the adjacent storefront, open during normal restaurant hours. With whitewashed wooden floors and exposed brick walls, 2-seater marble tables lining the perimeter, and slices served on posh porcelain dishware, Leo's bakery feels more luxe than peer pizza joints. Contemporary R&B mixes with friendly, yet pretentious staff members' humblebrag conversations. I swung by for an early weekday dinner, and I was able to order immediately. I opted for 2 slices: the Margherita and the Pepperoni. Immediately, I was struck by the excellent, naturally-leavened sourdough cust: thin in the middle and poofy at the edge, it was flavorful enough to enjoy even sans toppings. The margherita slice sported a slightly sweet red sauce and deliciously fresh mozzarella finished with a salty sprinkle of parm. While the flavors were a success, Leo was slightly skimpy on all its toppings, such that I found myself searching for a complete bite. Most notably I was bummed that only a single small leaf of fresh basil ended up on my slice. The margherita was therefore elevated by the addition of plentiful pepperoni rings. The crust slowly began to infuse with (nonetheless, held up well against) the pepperoni grease, ensuring richly spiced notes with each bite. The $10 I wagered on these slices felt like money well-spent. If I find myself planning a more-formal, sit-down pizza dinner, I'll be sure to keep Leo in mind -- but until then, I will "settle" for their sophisticated slices. read more
I've yet to have a bad meal or experience here, and I'm betting that I won't. Every time I've visited, either for dinner, a late in the day lunch, or even to sit at the bar for a snack and a martini, the service has been warm and the food, wine, and drinks didn't disappoint. Leo is the sister restaurant to Ops in Bushwick, but the vibes are very different: Leo feels older and more mature (even though it opened after Ops), and with it's open windows running along the space, the light pours in and the people watching is at its finest. I've come here for dates, with my mom, to grab lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in years, and for some solo time--all great reasons to dine at Leo. While the pizza is the main reason people have this place bookmarked--love the Clam Pie and the San Giuseppe--the pastas aren't to be missed, and neither is the Fritto Misto, which is light and not heavily fried. The wine list is super fun and the servers are quick to make suggestions and let you try something before committing. And don't skip dessert--they're also known for their rotating flavors that come in a twist, at times with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. Leo in my mind is the perfect neighborhood restaurant, one I enjoy making the trip to visit or popping in when I'm in this part of Williamsburg. I've had no issue walking in later in the day on weekends, but suggest a reservation for primetime weeknights or if you're a larger group. Cheers! read more

Solid neighborhood pizza spot! Had a very early reservation for four people on a Saturday at 5:30pm. By the time we left, the restaurant was packed. Ambiance is casual and chill, but feels cozy. Quintessential neighborhood vibes. Our server was amazing! So incredibly friendly and nice. Shoutout to the man with glasses and little earrings! We did have one minor odd interaction with someone who dropped off our appetizers. We ordered a salad and she dropped it off - I asked her for something to cut and serve the salad with (because covid and it was clearly a shareable). She just stared at me and brought back a spoon... for a salad. I asked if she had a fork and she literally rolled her eyes at me. Very odd. Aside from that, service was great. Food-wise, we shared everything which I recommend. It's not the best pizza I've had, but it's definitely tasty. I'm not normally someone who eats/ likes crust, but the crust is phenomenal. So doughy!!! I live in the neighborhood and will be back. We ordered: -Caesar Salad: I really liked this salad. It's a little hard to share because it's giant pieces of lettuce so we had to cut it, but I would definitely order again. -Meatballs: we almost didn't order because we thought we had too much food. But these were delicious! -Citrus Salad: I don't see it on the menu anymore, but it had olive oil, grapefruit, basil, and cheese. The grapefruit was too bitter for me, but others really enjoyed this. -San Giuseppe: this was my favorite pizza because I love olives. The sausage had a bit of a kick for me (I am a baby when it comes to spice, but it was manageable). -The Hill (with sausage added): white sauce pizza. I love mushrooms so I enjoyed this pizza. -Broccolini: white sauce pizza. This was good too. Very generous amounts of prosciutto. -Tiramisu: I wouldn't order again sadly. The bottom layer was way too boozy and the texture of the cream was very thin and watered down. read more

We intended to go to the full-service restaurant for lunch, but opted for their more informal slice joint with the pop-up bagel shop instead. With two kids in tow, the casual, unfussy cafe set-up for a quick meal worked out well. Unfortunately not all of Leo's full pie options are available as slices, but I still appreciated the opportunity to try different flavors. We selected the pepperoni, margherita, and pomodorini. Each thin-crusted pizza was fairly large and came out fresh. The crust was noticeably more flavorful from the sourdough, as well as chewier than normal New York pizza. Of the three we tried, my favorite was the pepperoni. The pizza sauce and especially the pepperoni together provided the strongest flavors. The pomodorini was probably my least favorite, in part because the cherry tomato and banana pepper toppings were parsimonious. As a result, it was bland and unforgettable. Overall, the pizza was delicious, but not the best we've ever had in NYC. Service, however, was friendly and quick. It could have had stronger AC on a warm summer day, but otherwise the interior was clean and pleasing. read more
It's perfect for a relaxed night out with friends or a casual dinner. The menu goes beyond pizza now with some tasty pasta, steak, and burger options, but the pizza is definitely the highlight. Try the clam pie and San Giuseppe - they're our favs. The crust is crispy and thin, just right. Drinks-wise we prefer to stick to the wine but the cocktails are also worth trying. Spicy marg is good. The seasonal soft-serve ice cream is so good. You can share this, we had an apple pie flavored version last night. The servers are usually friendly and attentive. read more
The pizza is made out of sourdough bread which gave it a slightly sour taste. This is different from other New York slices in the neighborhood but we quite liked it. Overall, the flavors were great, the crust had a good amount of crisp, and the ambience and service of the place was very nice. read more

We wanted to get pizza in Williamsburg and were debating between Leo, L'industrie or Paulie Gee's. We decided to go to Leo since it was a place I hadn't been before! I was starving when we got there, so I ordered the meatballs, cacio pepe and the NY Slice Pie for the 3 of us. The meatballs came hot! The focaccia was made with sesame seeds and tasted very fresh! The marinara on the meatballs was divine. The cacio pepe was also very good, but a pretty small portion. The pizza was pretty big! I think the NY Slice pie is bigger than their other pies. The sauce was probably the same sauce on the meatballs. I was caught off guard with how spicy pizza was. I think they drizzle over the chili oil for flavor so luckily, I didn't add additional hot chili oil before my first bite. The combination of 3 different cheeses: mozzarella, provolone &pecorino was so good. The garlic wasn't overpowering. The sourdough crust was light and crispy! Overall, a really good pie! I'll definitely come again and try their other pizza and pasta options! read more

Came for lunch, nice casual atmosphere, seems good place for families. Ordered the Clam pie and the the Hill with sausage. Both were really good, especially the clam pie. Sourdough crust was excellent. This place overall was very nice but I prefer the siter restaurant Ops. Maybe because it's has a romantic setting and more exciting menu. read more

We stumbled across Leo when we wanted a chill Italian spot for dinner in Williamsburg. We came at an awkward time (~4:30pm) so we didn't see many people as we walked in. A couple hours in, the music was played a bit loudly so was a little hard to hear sometimes! Still, I would say this is a cute and cozy date spot. We got the clam pie, which is a special. Shared between two, we were satisfied, but would order one more dish in addition, since we were so hungry! read more
TLDR: A friendly neighborhood spot with quality pizza! We strolled into Leo on a Thursday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised with the service and quality of food. The servers were friendly and helpful and the restaurant had a great homey feel with lots of light. The pizza itself is delicious and unique. The sourdough crust and flavor definitely comes through and their topping selections are fresh. I highly recommend the mushroom and broccolini pizzas! read more
Leo is delicious. Get anything baked and the ice cream. I came for a walk-in dinner on a Saturday and was seated after 10 minutes. The cocktails, pizza and ice cream are all so solid. Anything baked from here is incredible. Leo truly does have some of the best rotating ice creams. I left with 2 baguettes and a tiramisu to go. Service is fast and next time I wouldn't mind just eating in their connected takeout counter, where there is just enough of countertop seating to enjoy their full menu. I'm excited to try their sourdough bagels, other pizzas, and new ice cream flavors next! read more

We loved our dinner at Leo! Cute ambiance, great service, and amazing food. We tried the margherita pizza, Caesar salad, rigatoni, and cherry soft serve. Loved everything, but my favorites were the salad and the soft serve. The soft serve had olive oil and sea salt, i normally don't love cherry flavored things, but this was super natural and balanced. I also had a glass of the Patrick Meyer skin contact after our waiter recommended it and I loved it. Definitely recommend it if you enjoy a dry, clean, stone fruit forward wine. read more

My friend and I walked into this restaurant on a slow Sunday evening and asked for a table for two. The hostess quickly sat us down and provided us with water. Patrons were there dining but it wasn't crowded nor did it seem busy. My friend and I reviewed the menu and waited close to 30 mins without a server or any staff for that manner checking on us to see if we were ready to place our order even though our body language clearly displayed that we were ready. Instead the staff congregated at the front where the hostess was chit chatting about God knows what. It seemed evident that either they were not attentive to their guests or they were not in the mood to provide service to the only two black people in their establishment. Either way after 30 minutes of no service on a slow night my friend and I left. We have ZERO intentions of returning and I plan to post my review of this place on every possible platform. *Since water, poor service and the menu were the only things served I'll just post a photo of the menu. Thanks for the water! Do better Leo! read more

Went to Leo a couple of weeks ago for a date night with my partner and had a so-so experience. To start off on a positive note the soft serve was the highlight of the night and if I could go back and only order that I would! The rest of the food we ordered (focaccia & barata, charcuterie, pizza) was decent - not bad, but not really anything to write home about. We made a reservation ahead of time and didn't end up waiting to be sat which was nice, but we were put at a small table in the middle of the room where I was bumped into by staff running food and drinks more than a couple of times which was a little annoying. The service itself was pretty slow but generally fine - it was busy so to me that's to be expected. The server we had was friendly and professional though! I also found the restaurant to be louder than I like a casual dinner to be, but such is life. Overall as a spot for a low key bite or a first date you're only medium excited for, this is a great choice! Otherwise you could probably find somewhere better to go. read more

The pizza was salty. I've read a dozen reviews here saying the same. Whether it was from the pecorino or salt-added, it was the strongest flavor (the salt) and then the garlic. Which I love garlic. Ordered a pie of the NY Slice. Also ordered the olives which were $5 during happy hour. Ate inside, in the casual room. Place was empty 3:30pm on a weekday. Nice service and run by hipsters. Pizza was meh for me but when the standard is Lucali's, it's tough competition. Would not go out of my way but bread seemed decent but hard to taste with all that salt in my mouth. read more
We had been to Leo twice. Last time, they have a pop-up where we did Not end up eating any their menu. But this is now the time we actually tried their menu. Food: order pizza, meatball. Wow I love the dough. It's pretty good flavor n not soggy at all. The only thing is that you have to be patient for their pizza. It does actually take a while. But the pizza is absolutely worth the wait. read more

Cute spot in Brooklyn perfect for group of anyone wanting to enjoy some pizza! The menu is limited to pizza but it's ok because it's what they do well! Even for brunch it's the same menu - there is a little cafe part next door that has coffee and bagels and baked goods but you can't order anything besides the coffee drinks when you sit at the restaurant. This place is perfect for sharing! We started with the ricotta and focaccia which had a nice balsamic glaze on top that added a hint of sweetness to the ricotta. They will make the Cesar salad without anchovies for those who want! The breadcrumbs on top were a perfect crunch without being a heavy and big crouton! I liked the mix of lettuce as well! For the pizza we split the special which was a white pizza with spicy sausage! I think this is the special a lot and I can see why! It was tasty and with the added chili oil they bring out it was a perfect spicy addition! Overall it's a small menu but they make great food! The outdoor area was good for a nice sunny day with lots of tables! read more

I came here on a Sunday. The place is super cute and there is outdoor seating. My friend and I shared pizza and salad. But the main thing we loved was the soft serve! They rotate the flavors of the soft serve. This soft serve was cantaloupe and basil swirl. It was super refreshing and yummy! read more

Overall the food was fine, service had a lot of bumps. Ops impressed me more in the pizza realm. Restaurant was comfortably full (not packed by any means, but not empty). Decor is nice and the space feels spacious enough with natural light throughout. Service just seemed off for whatever reason. Firstly, never received our starter for the table (was removed from the bill without issue). Skip the espresso martini, it was not good sadly. Main dishes came out so sporadically, everyone at our table was eating at completely different paces so their food wouldnt get cold. First came the 2 burgers, then somewhere between 5-10 minutes later the next dish came out: 1 pancake. Another 10 mins passed until the final 3 pies arrived. No idea what happened there, but our server was apologetic and offered us free dessert. Pizza was generally good, nothing mind-blowing - we ordered the Margherita, Clam pie, and The Hill. The more topping-heavy pizza (The Hill) was a bit floppy/soggy at the center, and IMO went a bit overboard with the arugula. Pancake was perfect. Would give Leo another try, as our server was very kind and apologetic, but not necessarily rushing to return. read more

The new spot from the Ops team just opened, starting slow with the cafe open and soon pizza, before the main space with larger dinner options is available. So far I had a cold brew and the Spigarello & Fennel Frittata ($6), which was really excellent. They have a few other sandwiches available on the same bread, as well as a Quince Tart, and that's about it for now. I am patiently waiting now for the pizza to be ready for lunch time. read more

Really really good food! This place was a total hit. We went there after reading the reviews about how pizzas were made with sour dough bread. We got the cacio e pepe which honestly I think is something we could have skipped. We also got the pizza, which was amazing. Perfectly cooked and soft bread, tasted so good!! I regretted getting a pasta instead of a second pizza to be honest. Definitely worth the experience of having it with sour dough bread! For dessert, we got the tiramisu and soft swerve ice cream. The tiramisu was outstanding - def one of the best ones I've had. If you are a fan of the mascarpone like me, you would devour it. If you aren't a fan of the mascarpone cheese and prefer the strong coffee taste, this could be something you can skip. The tiramisu was also so fresh it just made the overall experience even better. Now, the ice cream was a mix of salted caramel and grapes. Honestly, a total hit or miss. Freshly made, had real salt grains and olive oil drizzled on the surface. Super interesting to try because it's a super unique flavour! I would suggest splitting it with someone because it might be a lot to have by yourself. read more
