We recently dined here to celebrate my mother-in-law's 85th birthday. We made a reservation and am glad that we did as the tables filled up (although there are spots at the bar if you walk in and want to sit there). I also noticed that they have a private dining area/party room in the back, which is a nice option if needed. You really do feel like you're at a little restaurant in France! Our waiter was awesome! Nice cozy spot. Not too large of a space but feels very comfortable and homey. Food was delicious, excellently prepared and perfectly seasoned. Every entree was wonderful. Our server was friendly and helpful. We came on a what appeared to be a busy evening. Service was a bit slow and it took awhile for our items to make it to our table however we were not in a hurry and it was well worth it. Superlative. The house white from their own vineyard is fantastic, not overly sweet and with a lovely mineral tone. My husband and I went with seafood for our courses, and everything was delicious. I highly recommend adding the anchovies to your salad. Miam! The flavors and seasonings on all our dishes were perfectly done--all the ingredients shining in their turn and nothing excessive. A perfect quantity so we left feeling fully satisfied. Even the desserts were beautifully balanced, and not hyper-sweet as one tends to find in America. I might just not be the target audience because my mom loves this place and all the dishes but I really was underwhelmed. I shared a few things with my mom; the shrimp cargot, the seafood gratin dip, and a Caesar salad. Everything was fine, but nothing blew me away. Even the bread from the bakery next door didn't seem like anything special. The shrimp was fine, lots of butter for the extra bread to dip, and the seafood dip was fine, lots of different seafood in it, but the flavor didn't knock my socks off. The Caesar salad also was more lemon-forward than cheese-forward, which wasn't quite my taste. The service was great and attentive and the place was small and intimate and friendly. My wife and I went there while visiting family in the Omaha area. Our first impression was a charming, relaxed atmosphere. We were met by Lisa who treated us with such respect and hospitality. She introduced us to others and shortly afterward, Chef Wilson came out and introduced himself and that was the beginning of a wonderful dinner. They had an extensive wine selection and also numerous non alcoholic cocktails. all of which paired quite well with our dishes. We had Foie Gras and Brie Josette for our appetizers. We had Duck Confit and a specialty dish of Seafood and Pasta for our entrees. We had a lemon parfait dessert to top it off. Our 1st time sitting belly up at the bar for drinks & apps! This is a really nice, classy & romantic restaurant (usually a 2 hour dining experience). They have a nice bar by the entryway that seats about 8. It's OK to go by yourself or catch up with someone and enjoy a drink or 2, get an appetizer or dinner! The bartenders are friendly & take the time to explain any questions you have. They were offering a new drink called Brooklyn Sour: Rum, sour mix, Hibiscus simple syrup & red wine float! Meh. I had such high hopes, but the night fell flat. The servers were nice, but they forgot two sides (both French onion soups, which I was really looking forward to trying), and one of the meals was incorrect. Two of the meals were dry/overcooked. They also started clearing tables around us that made it feel like they were closing. We finished up and decided not to have another drink or dessert so they could get out and go home. Upon leaving, we noticed that they were actually open for another hour. Our companions were not as concerned with any of this because they had been before and had better experiences. I was expecting something amazing after seeing the reviews but it was honestly so meh. The food was okay but I wanted it to be great. I love Le Voltaire. Actually, it's my favorite restarant in Omaha. I've been here more times than I can count, and I'll continue going as long as they are still around. I've tried other French spots in town, and truthfully, they can't compare. The atmosphere at LV is small and quaint. There's a French "vibe" throughout, a small bar area, and a larger back room for bigger parties. The cocktail selection is good, and according to my girlfriend, their wines are awesome. Most of the staff I've spoken with have actually spent some time in France, and if I remember a conversation I had with a server one time, they will do work trips there from time to time as well. The chef is incredible, and I've been told he went to culinary school in France as well, so this place is about as authentic as you can get in ol' Omaha Nebraska. Obviously the food is the star of the show at this place, and I have yet to be disappointed by any dish I ordered. I love ordering whichever specials they are running when I'm in, and am especially a fan of the several different lamb and veal dishes I've had. This weekend's meal was no exception. I ordered the Veal Cheeks, and was absolutely blown away. The veal, per usual, was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and cooked to perfection. The sauce was rich and flavorful, and accompanied the veal excellently. I did skip the vegetables, and added fries for my side, because, well, fries, and they were incredible as well. The server actually brought out some of their aoli for the fries too, which put them over the top. The Foie Gras Toast was on point (lol get it?), the Apple Tart was awesome, and my girlfriend enjoyed the seafood stew she ordered (a little too fishy for my taste). The spousal unit, offspring, and I enjoyed a Friday evening meal at Le Voltaire. Total cost for three, including appetizer and dessert, was about $135 with tax. SERVICE: -Service was excellent, as one would expect. Unfortunately, you find mediocre-to-poor service in too many places these days, and people use COVID as an excuse (PSA: you can be short staffed and busy but still have good service). Le Voltaire had the quantity and quality, and that is refreshing...and worth mentioning. Good service can make up for mediocre food (not that the food here is mediocre). FOOD: 1. Brie Jossette (appetizer; baked Brie on toast with apricot-cranberry chutney): --Excellent! I could make a meal of this. Even a dessert. Paired well with my Bordeaux due to the low Cab/high Merlot content in this particular blend. 2. Filet with peppercorn sauce: --Filet was good, but lacking in seasoning. The sauce was very mild and slightly thin. Mashed potatoes and veggies were good. 3. Steak frites with truffle fries and lentil/bleu cheese soup (with carrots, mushrooms, beef): --Soup was very interesting, have never had anything like it before...with the bleu cheese in it. Beef was very tender. Overall good. --Steak was ok. About 1/2" thick, so hard to keep it juicy, even at medium done. A little lacking in seasoning, but certainly not bad. Truffle fries were good, but had enough salt for them as well as the steak (that might be where the steak salt went). 4. Bordeaux: This Bordeaux was a Merlot-heavy blend and very soft & velvety. Good with the steak but excellent with the Brie Jossette. Very good glass; glad I didn't go with a Syrah. I don't know a lot about French wines. I know Spanish and German and South African and Australian, but not much about French. But I know I liked this wine and that's all that matters. 5. Dessert: -Churro with goat cheese cheesecake --different, but very good. Cinnamon heavy, until I took a sip of cappuccino and then the cinnamon was gone. Not complaining about the cinnamon btw...excellent dessert. -Cream brûlée --offspring said it was good. VERDICT: 2nd time here and it's good, but I think the appetizers and desserts were the stars of the show both times. read more

My wife and I chose Le Voltaire for a belated Valentines dinner, and it was the perfect choice. They're thoughtful enough to suggest wine pairings even with the appetizers, so my wife enjoyed a Bordeaux Rouge with our Brie Josette. The Brie was baked just right for the baguette and chutney. It's a delicious combination. I enjoyed a delightful Boulevardier. Salad course was wonderfully light and fresh, just right on the dressing. Entrees were the filet with sauce Diane and the steak frites Parisienne. Perfect medium rare, tender enough to cut with your fork, seasoned to perfection. Elizabeth provided thoughtful service throughout. The atmosphere was relaxing, which we needed. I'm so glad for this evening out with my Valentine! read more

This is a one of a kind restaurant in the Omaha area I wish we had more of these types of restaurants. You have to be a fan of French food and garlic. We visited Le Voltaire on a Saturday evening before attending 'A Christmas Carol' at the Omaha Community Playhouse. We were also celebrating my brother's birthday. And we had my 5 year old niece with me. As a result, there were a lot of variables that went into making us a complicated table. With all of that being said, Le Voltaire and it's staff treated us with kindness, grace, and professionalism! I HAD to come on Yelp and share about our fantastic experience! First, and foremost, the food was DIVINE! I had the Duck Special and oh-my-goodness was it flavorful! Between the tender duck meat, savory sausage, umami beans, and scrumptious sides...my tummy was overjoyed! We also shared a very economically priced bottle of wine. While there are many very expensive and fancy wine options for those who are into that...there are also plenty of options for those of us who want quality with a pocketbook friendly price! Everyone else loved their dishes...from beef to salmon to grilled veggies. So many wonderfully creative and delicious options! At the end, we all shared a couple of mousse au chocolat. It was chocolate heaven. If you are a chocolate fan, this is a must! Creamy, decadent, and bitter-sweet mousse topped with lavish whipped cream and tiny chocolate malt balls. Yum! On top of the food being fantastic, the decor and dining space are elegant, cozy, and very French! I loved it because I felt like I was at an upscale restaurant in France! However, most importantly, the waitstaff were superheroes! From entertaining my niece, to hurrying their end of the process to ensure we could leave on time to get to the play, to juggling everything with grace and professionalism...I was tremendously impressed! The vibe here was for a little fancier night. We came here for a bachelorette dinner, and the service was wonderful. The bride to be wanted something from the menu that was no longer served, and the staff walked over to the grocery store next door to be able to make it for her. That was a very kind gesture! Everything at this place is exceptional. Whenever I take my first bite of French onion soup I always think "Wow, I forgot how good this is!" Tonight I got the French onion soup and the Bouillabaisse. The entrees come with a basalmic side salad that you can add blue cheese and sliced almost to - I highly recommend this. I'm normally on the fence in terms of blue cheese but this is some top tier stuff. The Bouillabaisse is the Chef's favorite thing on the base menu, and the flavor definitely delivered. I normally get the creme brûlée which is also fantastic, but I didn't have enough room during this visit. I also got an order of beef bourguignon to go (tomorrow's dinner) and was immediately impressed with the way they packed it up. I've been getting more to go options during COVID, and always appreciate restaurants that take the time to pack food in a way to give you similar-to-restaurant-quality at home. Great service, cozy ambience, and mostly delicious food. The bread was perfectly soft and chewy and the butter exquisite. On the mix platter the duck was the star - we were both stunned at its deep, rich taste. The salad, on the other hand, was tasty but oddly dry. Like it was conceived just right but someone then forgot to pour on the rest of the vinaigrette. I ordered a chicken and lamb "stew" which turned out to be simultaneously delicious and disappointing. When I heard the word "stew" I thought of an entree similar to soup/chili. Like a thick vegetable stew would be. What I received, however, was basically a roast chicken on a plate with some sauce at the bottom of the plate. There was no depth of liquid like I would assume a stew to have. So while I wanted to enjoy tasty, savory, even slurpy mouthfuls of chicken and sausage and broth, etc., I spent my meal carving up a chicken and dipping it in sauce at the bottom of the plate. It tasted good, no doubt there, but was definitely not the meal or experience I was looking for. My only wish is that the foie Gras toast was served with a sweet/tart side to cut the richness, like sautéed apples or lingonberry jelly. Great chance to try thier menu. I ordered Escargot, Beef Burgundy, Creme Brulee. Escargot was flavorful and not overly salted. I had never tried Beef Burgundy and it's not really my thing but it was good. The beef was very tender and the sauce was bold. It was like a bold stew. The Creme Brulee was delicious and the custard was not overly sweet but the top sugar had a section that tasted burnt. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing. I really like the color and decor.
