My husband is a much harsher critic than I am, and he gave it a "rare 5.5 out of 5." The pancakes were some of the fluffiest I've ever had. They also have a great selection of coffee flavors to choose from, which was a fun bonus. The coffee paired perfectly with breakfast, though I probably wouldn't come here just for the coffee alone. The flavor was good but it did have a slight burnt taste. A quick note: you order at the counter before sitting down. It's a mix of self-serve and sit-down service. You order at the counter, grab your own silverware, and seat yourself, but they bring your food and drinks out to you (other than water). I do wish they were a bit more attentive about clearing finished plates during the meal. The restaurant was so busy that the line was out the door when we arrived, but it moved surprisingly fast. I was worried we wouldn't find a table, yet there were plenty of open seats available. The atmosphere is also really nice and cozy, making it a great spot to start your day. read more

What a unique name! Easy parking outside. Order and sit down with your number situation. Menus on the wall and readable. Lotsa choices for all palates. I got the morning wrap (egg whites, turkey, tomatoes and avocado) and the portions are so generous. It came out in decent timing and It kept me full from 9am to 3:45pm. I woulda been great on just half of it. But it was so good I couldn't help but finish it!! Flavorful and fresh, with ingredients that seemed fresh (or could be carry over from being freshly made). We wanted breakfast today so we hit up GL in Dundee. We really enjoy the pancakes here, but today they were thick and doughy (if that's even a word). Also our potatoes were extremely salty, but they exchanged them for better ones which were delicious. We always get the Double Standard no meat. Our eggs were great just not hot! The restaurant wasn't empty, but it wasn't packed either so our food came out quickly. Overall, we will be back because we believe this was just an off day for the cook(s). Hence the 3 stars today. Solid choice and would recommend Chicken Fried Steak - 2.5/5. Definitely not made to order and/or pre-made and deep fried to heat it up. Breading on it was burnt in a few areas and steak was overly fried giving it a bitter taste. Luckily the gravy overpowers it somewhat. All edible, but would hope that wasn't their best. We enjoy coming during the colder seasons to sit by the big windows with a hot drink and watch the people outside and relax. The ordering at the front is a little awkward. If there's no one in line it's nice when just walking in. When it's busy however, you have to walk into the seating area and then turn back around. I got a simple sausage, potatoes, and eggs scrambled with coffee. Presentation was so subpar that I didn't even take a picture. Potatoes look extremely burnt and yet they were the best tasting items on the plate. Scrambled eggs look like they were pre-cooked buffet style made with liquid eggs and they just scoop them on your plate so I would suggest ordering whole eggs. The sausage patty is homemade but the flavor is overpowering. Tasted very heavy on the rosemary. I couldn't eat it. The Ricotta pancake was OK. After looking around at other people's plates, I felt I definitely ordered the wrong dish. The bacon looks crispy and their breakfast burrito seem to be the star of the menu. They're basically is no service. You pay for your food in advance and tip in advance then take the number and find a seat and they will come find you. Help yourself coffee station and water station. Inside is open seating, all chairs/tables, no booths. A separate coffee bar is available to order specialty coffees. You order at the counter so there isn't a whole lot to be happy or dissapointed with in regard to service, everyone was friendly! We settlers on the chicken fried steak, and egg, bacons and goat cheese breakfast sandwich and we couldn't pass up a cinnamon roll- they were huge and looked delicious (we ate the cinnamon roll before I could take a picture). All fresh and delicious. The chicken fried steak was a nice thick cut of steak and the breakfast sandwich came on a fresh made English muffin. The cinnamon roll was delicious- probably one of the best I've ever paid for. A real from scratch roll with from scratch icing. Pricing was average. For the 3 dishes we ordered it was $40. In addition to great brunch food options, I love that they have multiple smoothie, coffee, and tea options. The breakfast sandwich was perfect to me. The English muffin was fantastic and I especially enjoyed the aioli and bacon flavors inside (you can get it with bacon or sausage in addition to the egg). I had the eggs Benedict and a cappuccino. The cappuccino came out fast... faster than the food, which would be ok if the food came out shortly after. I tried to save my coffee for the food but by the time the food came out my cappuccino was cold. the ambiance is very cool. The building is a reclaimed building and nicely restored. The Benedict was very flavorful. I enjoyed the balance between the salmon and bacon jam. The bottom of the muffin was slightly over cooked so it made it hard to cut through. I didn't realize it was a more casual approach in terms of counter orders vs wait staff at the tables, but I'm a fan of efficiency, so I liked that!
