So I went into Layered as a new customer and also new to Yelp, I was shocked at the price of the 10 dollar minosas that I ordered to go with my Togo order which I then understood that it was 10 dollars for the first one and then 1 dollar after, which is awesome with me! But I was by myself and ordered two to go just thinking oh I can go enjoy these on the square and come back and take advantage of the one dollar minosas since I had just been charged for two rounds of not so bottomless with a tip. I regret giving them my money for a bunch of reasons beyond the nervous bartender with shaking hands maybe because it's charging a new customer double because she can get away with not explaining how it works? Until after the sale has been made. It's 20 bucks but it's the principle. Pictured is the 27 dollar tab of to go food I ordered, and the 10 dollar 12 oz to go not so bottomless mimosas! " I thought you knew that sir" - Kya the waitress "Why would a new customer and someone new to town know something like that" Let me be clear in this update: This is not about Kya, this is an expo showing the owner of the business and his character. I urge you locals to understand that they are trying to get up on anyone they can for a quick buck, I get it, I've been in the service industry for years. But Nir, my friend, not good business. I at least expected not to be charged for two rounds as a single individual, maybe I should've not quickly ordered Togo when rushed for the option of here or to go. Not Local hospitality, disappointing compared to any other breakfast place on the square. So many better places. Get the smoked fries. Ambiance - 4/5 - Located in downtown McKinney with a nice layout (with a coffee bar). Very open, bright spot, which is ideal for brunch. Staff - 3/5 - Friendly. Didn't have silverware. Had to remind waitress on many occasions for water/etc. Food - 2.5/5. The food never came out altogether. Already a miss. Smoked Fries - 5/5 - Never had fries with such a smoky flavor. You must get this. Chicken and Waffles - 2/5 - I am not kidding. It was like Tyson chicken tenders on my plate. I love chicken and waffles, so this was very disappointing. Lox and Bagel - 3/5 - Bagel was very, very chewy. Breakfast Burger (w/ Sweet Potato Hash) - 3/5 - The burger was good, but the hash was covered in oil. Very hard to eat. Overall, we did not have a great experience and probably not coming back. Glad we drove around a second lap of the square to find this little Gem! Virginia Street was closed off at certain points for some event, so we couldn't drive straight down Virginia Street. Great location across for the Courthouse. Had to start with a Dirty Chai Latte to warm up from that cold wind. Cynthia enjoyed the Bottomless Mimosas. Corned Beef Hash w/Eggs and Cynthias Steak and Eggs we're so flavorful with a caramelized earthiness you could savor in every bite. Came solo for a quiet breakfast. Cute place, nice sized menu, very different options. I got the Bao buns which were amazing! Portions size could've been more than two. I can go to the Asian markets/restaurants and get 4 for the price that I paid for 2. But the flavor profile was amazing! I also tried the corned beef hash, which was not what I was expecting, but none the less very tasty. The portion size on that was well worth the money. I also got the Nutella latte which was very delicious. I want to come back to try the Israeli dish. I've seen this place often but every time I pass by it's always so busy on the weekends, so I would recommend coming during the week. Staff was nice, 2 were very nice, one was not very friendly. They have a small outdoor seating area, which had the sweetest group of ladies outside having breakfast. So it's not a big patio area, but enough for what was about 8-10 ladies. However, even if there's no room for you to sit out there when you go, you won't disappointed with the interior and the seating in there! I love the modern industrial look they have going on with the bench seats and the pillows as the back cushions. Cute place right in McKinney square to get coffee. The decor is simple and modern. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. There's a limited selection of food but a good variety to choose from. There could be a better selection of food for kids. I didn't know what to get my picky son, so I just got him a side of bacon. I shared the lox bagel with my husband, which he really enjoyed. My daughter had the breakfast taco, which was pretty good also. My husband got their drip coffee and he thought it was okay. It wasn't strong enough for him. I got their honey latte, which I throughly enjoyed and drank to the last drip. My daughter also drank her hot chocolate to the last drip. In my case I was not impressed driving from Allen passed many other stores that provide better service & food. Coffee? Booze? Breakfast? Lunch? It's here because this place is layered. Layered with goodies. I've had waffles in Europe and this tastes similar. The sugary gritty bits were yummy. The avocado toast with radish was my healthier option of the two. I would probably make it a point to ask the waitress to make the toast more toasty next time. I was reuniting with a friend at this location and the workers played along with my selfie antics. I appreciate their participation because we captured some great laughs. I stop by Layered a few times a week for my Breve fix and decided it was past time to write a review. Every time I go, they know me by name; know my drink; welcome me and thank me for coming in. They are friendly, efficient and my drink is always just the way I ask for it! Haven't eaten here in quite some time but only because mornings are busy. We decided to go to breakfast here after getting off work this am and we were the only people there to begin with. The place is super cute inside and loved the atmosphere. We wanted some fried items but the fire marshall had told them they couldn't use it so we ordered some waffles and the migas instead along with two coffee drinks and all of it was fantastic. We noticed as we were there longer the more people came in and they all seemed to be regulars. I guess they recently renovated because everyone was commenting on the new look. I ordered the Layered Burger with over easy eggs, cooked medium. The burger came out with undercooked eggs and overcooked burger patty. My jaw hurts from chewing because the meat with so hard. The fries were cold and stale so I didn't eat any of it. I ordered the Breve coffee and that way decent. It had a nice foam on top. Service was below average. The hostess was unfriendly and treated us like a nuisance. She didn't want seat us because we didn't have a complete party even though half of the restaurant was empty. Once they seated us & we started eating, we haven't even finished our food and coffee yet & the server already dropped off the check and asked if we want to pay. The staff was very friendly, fast and welcoming. The owner even came by to chat with us about the food, if we needed anything and talked about my tattoo he was very personable and I love that about restaurants! This was our first time in here and I will be back again when I come to visit. I can't rave about this place enough the restaurant has a nice rustic feel to it and it smells like fresh brewed coffee which I absolutely love. Hoping to switch up our normal brunch spot, I popped into Layered but won't be changing our go-to anytime soon. The food was okay. I ordered polenta pancakes, but received regular pancakes. Our server wasn't very attentive, so I was unable to ask for my actual order and ended up eating what I was given. They were just pancakes, nothing special. My boyfriend ordered the corn beef hash. Again, just okay. He enjoyed the coffee, and I got hot chocolate which was overwhelming sweet. It was all just okay, but maybe it was just a bad day. Side note: they have a robot thing that rolls food around to the tables, which was very fun to watch. I've never seen one in person. Kids would probably get a kick out of watching it:) read more

We used to love eating here on the weekends. Great coffee and brunch foods. Service was consistently good. It was never super clean in the restaurant though and I could attribute that to the older building and chairs/ tables needing maintenance. However, what I cannot look past are bugs and I am not referring to the too many flies and gnats buzzing around but an actual ROACH was in the napkin / cutlery roll that was handed to us. When we messaged to the server there was no alarm from them, but they stated that exterminators were due and sprayed every few weeks. He only asked if we wanted a new napkin roll. I started bringing family and friends and they all fell in love too. Nir is a great owner and has a deep passion in this industry and strives to make every customer happy. It's rare to see the owner in their restaurant as frequently as you'll see Nir. If you're looking for a good laugh, ask about his rental BMW and a deer. Employees know my order without having to ask, and knows that if the back table is open that is where i'll sit. It's fantastic to know that employees care and want to see you happy. I've eaten many things on the menu, but the Vegan Hash with avocado is by far my favorite. It is a great boost to start your morning off with, and the coffee is outstanding as well.
