We have frequented laughing planet when living in portland and am so thankful there is finally a healthy delicious , vegan, vegetarian option now in Bend. They still have a fee things to figure out if they are going to mirror their sister restaurants in Portland as far as service and the menu. read more

I loved it...both times I went. Loved. And now I'm visiting Reno and I'm tempted to ignore all of the restaurant suggestions here and eat at their Laughing Planet (they have one too). The Bend location does leave a lot to be desired. It's in a weird spot sure...and the parking lot is tiny. However, there seems to be ample parking on the side streets (for free). I had the Che burrito the first time which was really good...plantains and black beans with some sweet potato? Yes please. The hubby had the Korean BBQ with beef and claimed it was fantastic (the oatmeal raisin cookie was a bust...a little to gritty for our taste..."healthy" cookies can taste good too ya know). We dined in with a couple of friends. Everyone loved their food and since it was around 1:30pm the wait wasn't long and it didn't seem loud to us. But I can see how acoustics could be an issue during a rush. The second time i went back I got a Thai Bowl to go. My only small complaint was that I asked if they could make it as a wrap instead of a bowl (since they can make any wrap into a bowl I figured they could do the reverse). I was informed they were no longer permitted to do that but they gave me a tortilla so I could wrap it myself. Not a huge issue but I just wonder why... Anyway, it too was delicious. You just can't go wrong with peanut sauce. Really good food and friendly staff. They offer kombucha on tap, which is always a plus. I would definitely eat here again and again. read more

I also don't feel judgment if I need to substitute here. 5 star for the food and friendly faces (usually) but for some reason we can almost never pay with our debit cards. I am in love with Laughing Planet's Peanut Thai dish! I'm not a tofu fan so substituted chicken for it. It's gluten free. I believe there are other gluten free options as well, but I love the peanut dish too much to try anything new! Went here a second time and ordered a 2$ side of rice to go with out meal since they don't really come with any rice, the side of rice was about 2 tablespoons and it was hard and old and cold. Not impressed! I think if I ever come here again i would only get it to go so I could go home and put it over an actual amount of rice. read more

The food and service is good but I have to agree with some of the other "Yelpers", the noise factor makes it a shouting match... especially when the blender comes on as the noise ricochets throughout the space. So when you serve healthy food, you no longer have to attempt to make it edible, I guess. Awful. Thought it would be good to get in touch with my healthier side, so I went with the new to town, vegan-centric option... Bad move by me. I ordered some sort of "verde" burrito to go, and what I got was a bowl of bland, lukewarm soup that somebody tried to wrap in a tortilla. I can't remember trying to eat a messier meal... But at least it tasted awful. Lacking any flavor, not hot, not spicy as advertised. Bad meal. Maybe I'm less healthy than I should be because I don't eat food that tastes bad, but I'm probably done with Laughing Planet. I would've given only one star, but the place was clean, and the flower children working at the counter were friendly and helpful. It was also fairly quick, despite being very busy. read more

Sorry about the one star. We have eaten here over 6 times and wonder why the food is not consistent . Our last visit was with friends from out of town , all four meals were actually cold. what the heck. would have taken them back up to counter,but there was such a line, not worth it. we have been eating at the Portland locations for many years and just love it ,whats the problem. I went in for the first time it was like a cafe style chic but nice. The staff was not very helpful. I put in my order and they said they would call me up when done. The order was to go. After 40 min I went to the desk to ask where my food was. Mind you there were only 2 other tables when I made my order. With 5 people on staff and no one in there I would expect better service. Laughing Planet used to be great. But they've changed everything about their portioning. Not only are there portions significantly smaller than they used to be, but they PILE ON the cheap stuff: rice and beans, and then give you so little veggies/meat, that all you taste is rice and beans. The first time I went I got the Che Guavara burrito. It sounded really good: yam, plantain, pinto beans, rice and chicken. It also tasted pretty good, but the texture was sort of baby food-ish. I was really impressed with the bang for your buck at that place too. 6-7 dollars for a big burrito! The second time I went, I got the Lebanese Delight burrito. This time the texture was better, but the flavors we're a little bland. Then, I realized that since this place is "healthy" I don't expect to get over the top gourmet food, but it's still good. The place itself is a little cheesy (in a funny way with dinosaur decorations and food names), sometimes loud with kids and very artificial in its design and staff (overly excited). Then, the third time I went, the staff seemed even happier to be there, which was nice, but this one thing totally made my mouth drop! One of the girls working there was wearing a very thin shirt and no bra! You could totally see every detail of her bosom. Very inappropriate and I'm surprised the owners allow that, then it made me look at the clothing of the other staff (booty shorts, little tank tops etc...) tell those girls to put on some more clothes, theres other ways to get good tips. Overall, I'll go back, but I definitely don't feel comfortable there with naked boobs in my face. read more

Had the benefit bowl, it was just the right amount of spice, and the portions are decent. For $10 it's a little spendy for "bowls" but they definitely mix in more expensive and different flavors. This one had beef, spinach, queso fresco, apple slaw, all on top of some kind of cornbread. The marionberry ginger smoothie is an excellent hangover drink as well, with big chunks of ginger. update: the food has taken a turn for inconsistency. The quesadillas have filling only in the middle. I ordered a grilled veggie quesadilla which used to be my favorite, and it had one piece of carrot and one piece of squash in it. Tried again with my old favorite the Popeye quesadilla, same issue, spinach in the middle only. I asked for extra cheese, there was very little cheese in the whole thing. It's so hard to find a place to eat, even in healthy Bend, that offers a paleo/primal option. They have one feature meal, Paleo Bowl on the menu and it was really good. I wish there were others, but they will sub stuff for other items to be paleo compliant. I don't mind the extra dollar charge for subbing sauteed garlic kale for rice dishes. They also have Kombucha on tap so that's awesome. I had the Bollywood Bowl today and it was excellent. They don't bitch about your subbing requests and are pretty nice. I would love for them to feature desserts other than cookies. I suggested on a comment card that they carry Plant Based Pies in Bend vegan/dairy free/soy free/crap free cheesecakes, that would be perfect! I hope they read this. read more

Wow. Spectacular vegan food options. Wish there was one of these in California!!! I had the Thai bowl and ate the entire thing...I licked the freaking bowl. Perfect combo of savory and a little spice, vegetables were cooked to perfection, tender and crunchy goodness. I was going to take a picture, but then I ate it and forgot about all else. My husband and I were visiting Bend from Washington, deciding if we want to live there or not. We had a hard time choosing a place to eat because Bend has so many restaurants that have vegan options. The online menu for Laughing Plant looked awesome, so we gave it a try and were very pleased! I had the Thai Bowl with Jasmine Rice and it was freaking delicious! The garlic green beans really set it off. It tasted healthy, fresh, not oily or heavy at all. It was the perfect amount and left me feeling satisfied and light as a feather. My husband had the Tempeh Burrito, he was also very happy. He had the same comments, it tasted healthy and not heavy at all. The place was clean and the employees were super nice and cheerful. I was very impressed. I went during a busy lunch rush. I had to park a 1/2 block away which is typically a good indicator. The line went a little slow because the menu is new to all us customers and people seemed to have a lot of questions. But they had 2 registers going and an employee handing out smoothie samples to those of us in line. I ordered the chicken burrito and a local beer. Beer was cold and the food was fresh and tasty. Atmosphere is great! Well lit, clean, and modern. Complete with large plastic dinosaurs in the window sills for the younger customers to play with. Another plus was lots of nice, happy people.
