After eight years, Crux is overdue for a review update. Biggest reason is that quite a few years ago they expanded the place significantly, opening up the large room to the right of the bar that opens into the outdoor area. That room is equipped with restrooms, relieving one of my major complaints about a lack of facilities, as well as a second serving station complete with taps. Since then, Crux has significantly changed the outdoor area as well although I'm not certain it's an upgrade. It's a little too landscaped and way too much like a playground now. Locals have always tended to refer to Crux as 'daycare but with beer.' The last several times I've come here, the second serving station has not been in operation even though it looks to be still fully functional. Meanwhile the line to the bar serving stations is often long, sometimes almost out the door. Not sure why that is, doesn't make sense to have the capacity to more efficiently serve customers but not use it. All that said, the beer is still stellar and they continue to have a wide range of beer choices, the new(ish) large room has plentiful high-top seating (mobility challenged folks will need to venture outside), and the music is kept below ear-splitting volume. You can also sit at the bar itself although the vibe there isn't great - it's not like a neighborhood pub bar. Crux still has a kitchen. I used to order directly from them but have since transitioned to patronizing one of the several food carts outside. Being food carts, they tend to come and go so I'll not go into detail there. That said, the new Alpine Smash burger is fabulous. The other significant change in recent years has been with the location. A dispute with the property owners to the west resulted in the access road that way being closed, requiring Crux patrons to use the road coming from Second/Scott Street (or ride a bike). The west road is now open, maybe because the Jackstraw housing complex over that way is now completed and the road serves their tenants. RIP Spoken Moto. read more

Stopped by to check this brewery out. I thought the beer was decent, but the atmosphere was the highlight. There's a large outdoor seating area with plenty of tables, making it a great spot to hang out with friends. They also have food trucks if you're not in the mood to order from the brewery. One thing to keep in mind is that drink and food orders share the same line, so the wait can get pretty long when it's busy. We ordered the pretzel and nachos, and both were surprisingly good. The pretzel was soft with a nice chewy texture, and the nachos were loaded with toppings. I'd definitely order both again. read more

Crux slaps, always. When the sun is setting, the outside area is a great place to be. The beer here is always fantastic, and the folks pouring rock too. Great people! The food carts offer a nice variety, but we tried Alpine Smash Burger (a shame they're not on Yelp yet!!) BBQ smash and fry sauce were FANTASTIC. Okay, I have been a fan of Crux for a while now. As a local, they are reliable and have fun and friendly staff, making them a last minute go to for a meal option. The past week I have visited twice, since their outdoor remodel is completing, and they have new food trucks becoming part of the team. I am so excited for the changes that have been made and the new food trucks joining the absolutely fabulous El Sancho truck. As for the brews, Crux always has a selection of great IPAs, they also have some innovative brews, such as Bochi Bochi, a rice lager, and (though not often) make truly spectacular ambers and browns. Do yourself a favor and drop by for a pint and/or a meal, you will be glad you did. read more

Arrived at 11:30am on a Saturday. The line to order a beer was from the inside bar all the way to patio so, we went to another great Bend brewery. We came back at 4pm to wrap up our brewery tour, and line was still long (although not out to the patio). Way under staffed. We left. Their shirts and shwag were non artistic. This place used to be great. The food trucks were fantastic (they deserve their own review), but this visit was a little disappointing. Getting a beer took way longer than it should have. I get that breweries often have a laid-back, community vibe, and that's part of the charm. But when there are 30 people waiting in line, maybe save the full recap of Craig's hike for after the rush. Ask Craig what he'd like to drink, pour the beer, and then hear all about the incredible trees he saw today. Everyone wins. Still solid after all these years. We Love their porters and my hubby loves their IPAs. In the past, this was such a hip tasty industrial brewery with indoor outdoor seating. Serves food and also may have a food truck open. Our last visit we enjoyed the bowl of chili and Caesar salad was all A-OK. The staff was helpful even when busy. Interesting to note, it's like all the beer drinker mt bike folks that used to all come here years ago just happened to grow up and have kids at once, so now it definitely has a very kids playground scene, but I still think it's cool here. (Just go inside to avoid the mayhem. lol!) It's sweet that they create a fun environment outside there. A suggestion maybe would be create a small section outside. that's a no kid table for sunshine and drinking too. ;) it looks like they're making good use of their space. I noticed many changes since the last visit. Looks like they have a party room you could rent, lots of fun well designed swag for purchase, ect. Wow! This place is awesome! It's like a park outside and the food and beers are incredible. I spent a week in Bend and there are SO many great places to relax and have an awesome beer, this place is definitely one of the best around! I have been doing "beertender's choice" flights almost everywhere I went this week but here, I just stuck to what I like. I got 3 West coast IPAs and one imperial. They understand this style and knock it out of the (their own) park! Today the "Grade A" did it for me and the 1/2 hitch was an excellent stronger option. It will be a while before I return (500 miles from home) but if you live in, or are traveling through the area, definitely give'em a try! read more

Walked into Crux on a Sunday afternoon and it was barely busy. For a change, I had the dragonfruit jalapeño margarita and we shared the brewers Mac n cheese. The drink was fruity and a little sour, no detectable jalapeño. Good flavor, just not what I expected. The Mac n cheese was a huge disappointment, Bland and flavorless. We added salt, pepper and hot sauce to make it palatable. I would skip this next time and probably get a sandwich. Lots of seating inside and out. Food truck onsite as well. read more

Looking to grab a quick drink before heading to a show at the amphitheater, my husband and I stopped by Crux fermentation project. We came on the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating with food trucks and a fire pit. Parking was not an issue as they have their own lot as well as plenty of street parking. They are dog and kid-friendly, with supervision obviously. I ordered the POG sour while my husband decided to get the hang tight IPA. My sour was refreshing without being too acidic. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the IPA and it was the perfect spot to grab a quick drink before heading to the show. read more

Besides gorgeous mountain views, Bend has a ton of amazing beer. My first visit here I missed quite a few of the favorites, and since trying a few canned selections from Crux and hearing people say it was their favorite, I made an effort to make it the first stop. Just off the highway and close to downtown, Crux Fermentation Project has a stellar reputation for great beer. They have a lot of dedicated parking in an area that doesn't seem to have much else. We visited on a holiday so it was extra busy, but the bartenders and servers were so fast and efficient it didn't matter. They have a large outdoor area with tables and fire pits, plus indoor tables. The main bar area snakes through the merchandise section, with multiple menus above the cashiers. You can order food and drinks here. They also have a dedicated side ordering area just for drinks that it seemed like more people were using. A few friends ate various foods and everyone loved what they had. I had two flights of different beers, trying some new ones and ones I've already had but fresh on tap. Their beer is excellent. The brewing facility is large and beautiful, be sure to check out the back areas. To me, Crux is perfection. There's nothing like driving or ubering along the backroads that deliver you under the highway, before passing the "no outlet" sign that turns you immediately into the Crux parking areas. Then, finally, beer lovers can rejoice that they made it. You'll enter through the main doorway just in front of the smaller front parking lot and then turn left to begin your stay with the bartenders manning the first large pouring area. I had been here once prior, so it was a joy to return in winter. We made our way through the line and were helped by two servers who designed our flights for us. We were impressed with the metal work inside, and then the flight holder was presented, we were glad to see such an interesting metal design there, too. I cannot recall exactly what I ordered, which is a good thing. I LOVED the unique cherry blossom beer and was bummed to learn that it was not available in cans since it was a special release. If you dine here and they still have it, buy some to drink! You will not regret it! We chose to sit outside by the lively firepit and were lucky to get a bench that would fit our flights and our bums. This is a very social area, so come with energy and the desire for small talk. We were grateful to learn a few impressive things to do in Bend from locals, so thank you to everyone who we spent time with! We especially loved our dog friends, Autumn and her sister! We understand the tacos at the on-site food cart are great, too. read more

I ate truly one of my favorite veggie burgers at this brewery when visiting a few weeks ago! This is a cool spot, they have a huge indoor seating area and a massive outdoor seating area. When we went it was on a weekend and they had a bunch of food trucks out back that you could order food from. They stop serving food at 9pm, and we luckily go here in time to order food. You order your drinks and food at the counter and they bring it out to you. We each got flights of beers and got to sample four different beers. My personal favorite that I sampled was the Bochi Bochi, which was a Japanese rice style lager. It's not my typical beer that I like, so I wasn't anticipating to like it as much as I did! I tried their sore, cider, and hefeweisen as well but didn't personally particularly love any of the other beers I sampled. They have a really wide selection of beers here, and they will likely have something that everyone will enjoy! The veggie burger was literally so good. It had pimento cheese on it and came with chips, it was so simple and so yummy. Overall, a great vibe and a cool place to hang out. We were spending the night in Bend and decided to try Crux Fermentation Project for dinner and a couple brews. We chose them because their menu looked more interesting. I had the Italian Sandwich and my wife had the Turkey, both served with kettle chips and a pickle spear. They were both very good in both size and taste. Being our first visit we tried a flight of four tasters. Each beer was good and had different notes, they seem to be brewing a nice range of beer and not leaning into the IPA things too much. We liked the Mexican style with lime and the rice one. I also had a nitro stout. The building is fun with both interior and exterior places to sit. In addition to their kitchen at least one food truck was operating on site. They are also dog friendly,which is always a plus. read more

Crux has been a staple hangout spot for us as a couple and now they have multiple food carts with more coming in December!! Lots of parking and a nice yard for dogs and kids!! You gotta give Brown Owl food cart a try- one of the food carts there!! They have recently started providing fun activities for kids such as a chalkboard and nature themed kid zone and the best part is they HIDE painted rocks with OWLS on them all over the property. If your kid finds one they can turn it in for a cookie or small order of French fries!! Seriously gave our kids two+ hours of fun while we visited w friends!! Their burger is delicious but I recommend the fried chicken sando (it has fried egg on it which is so tasty!!) If you want a shareable item order the Loaded Fries they're messy but soooo worth it!! They mentioned that they'll be serving their homemade chili and fried cornbread like they had at their brick-n-mortar in Box Factory - i can't wait to get it!!! Crux beer is yummy and they serve cocktails too!!! Prices are more than reasonable and their employees seem to have fun! Highly recommend giving them a shot!! Visited for the first time! The line for drinks was quite long but it went fast with lots of staff ready to take orders. The outdoor patio is very large with lots of seating and yard area. When I arrived there was not one open seat. Thankfully someone left and I snagged a table. Staff was friendly and the pizza and drink tasted great. Be prepared for lots of people and to wait for a table. Super dog friendly I saw about 10 dogs outside while I was there. read more
