While visiting Bend, Oregon last year we knew we were in one of the best towns for craft beer. Visiting this brewery was first on our list and was definitely the best brew we found. Hidden in a small neighborhood the tap house is quite small, but they do have a couple of tables outside and some great people to talk with. They do have a larger brewery downtown but we both liked the vibe of this place. My husband I both went for a pint of the Diablo Red. We both enjoy a red brew and they are hard to come by. Everyone is looking for the magic IPA, but those beers just aren't for us. We had a great time enjoying the afternoon on a warm September day in Bend drinking this beer. read more

I have been looking forward to visiting Bend for years and Boneyard Beer ended up being my first stop in a city known for excellent beer. My visit did not disappoint and will always be a positive memory. Boneyard has become a larger brewery in the area now boasting the number 1 IPA consumed in Oregon (which has to be produced and packaged by Deschutes due to the demand). This location of Boneyard is small, in an old warehouse/garage in a quiet neighborhood but easy to get to near the highway. They have free parking outside with an outdoor seating area as well. The taproom is small with a couple tables and standing room only at the bar. The taplist isn't huge (go to the downtown location for more), but enough to get to try on a visit. Prices are also reasonable for the great quality of the beer. This is a production facility, where they do smaller batch beers. They also have merchandise and 6-packs to go. The great part of this ended up being the people - the bartender was super friendly and welcoming, talking us through each beer and history of Boneyard in general. The other patrons came in and talked about all the great breweries in town by why this was their favorite. We also ended up using this as our meetup spot for the rest of my travel companions, a great place for their first beers of the trip too. I will definitely be back. read more

I'm am not typically a fan of IPAs , but Boneyard is the exception. I have been to the taproom three times and everything time I've liked every IPA on tap. I highly recommend visiting if you're in town. Luckily they can fill cans with whatever you like, so you can take some home with you. They don't bottle their beer so you can't find it in stores and I rarely find it on tap in Portland except for RPM. The taproom is bare bones. You're not going to lounge around playing scrabble or solving world hunger while you drink a pint. Considering the deliciousness of the beer, I'm ok with the lack of seating and food. After visiting the big kid on the block (Deschutes) it was time to switch to the opposite side of the spectrum - a small microbrewery called Boneyard. My phone was on the fritz, so I crossed the river on foot to the location I had seen earlier on a map. Once I sensed I was getting close, I asked locals for help. I struck out with one passing group, but the couple walking their dog smiled knowingly and gave me directions that ended with "...and then you'll be on a dead-end street in sort of an industrial area." Even with the great directions, I almost walked by it. Boneyard was behind a nondescript door on a rectangular building with aging aluminum siding. I walked in to the small tasting room, where a few staff and two locals were knocking backs some beers (It was 20 min to closing time). They filled me in on the rules - no pints served here, but i was welcome to do the tasting menu and take home sealed beers or growlers after that. I accepted their terms. The theme here was "gear-head paraphernalia", including: motorcycles, gears, motor parts, plus lots of skulls and skeletons (per the name). Most t-shirts and swag were black on white or white on black (some had a touch of red). I would almost say the place had a heavy-metal vibe, but they weren't playing any of that on the stereo. I thoroughly enjoyed tasting their beers. All were really well-made and had something interesting going on. The tasting menu order started from lighter to heavier, with the following highlights, for me: -- The Incredible Pulp: Tasty summer beer with lowish ABV but solid body and a nice orange twang. I'm not a big fan of fruity beers, but I could drink this on a shady porch all day -- RPM: My favorite. Solid, delicious, balanced IPA. -- Hop Venom: Double IPA. My sweet spot. Dangerous but oh sooo tasty. During my visit, business picked up suddenly as about a half-dozen different locals stopped by to grab some big (32 oz?) cans before closing time. Consequently I got to watch their canning machine in action - Cans that were filled from the tap would then be sealed right there (complete with a pop-top for later opening). I would have loved to buy a few of my own, but I had no way to keep them cold on the journey home the next day. (But I kicked myself later for not Macgyvering a solution; it would have been simple). Great beer served in a low-key, unpretentious environment. This is what micro-brewing is all about. If I'm ever in town again, Boneyard is on the short list. read more

Boneyard has great beer. You should go. It's a small SRO tasting room, not a bar. You can sample one for free, then purchase samples, growlers or get cans filled after that. First time in was 2014: I have had their beer on tap in Portland many times before I was able to walk into Boneyard. Finally made it this summer and enjoyed them all but was pleasantly surprised by the 3-way. Now in 2017: Still awesome after many trips here. And now they also sell 32 oz. can growlers AKA crowlers that they can right in front of you. I buy these rather than use a glass growler because I can take more and drink over the course of a longer period of time. Growler beer has a limited life but the cans last a month! My old favorite beer here, RPM IPA. Still awesome as always. Reliable red is the Diablo Rojo. New loves are the Bone-A-Fide and the Incredible Pulp. Though, honestly all of their beers are great! I'm just not super interested in the triple because it's kinda sweet in flavor and high in ABV, but people love it! When I'm passing though Bend I make a point to pick up some crowlers to take back home. And, of course if I'm staying in Bend for a few days I make a trip here. read more

This is a strange and small place. That being said I give it credit for being unique and giving a neat opportunity to try some new brews. They only offer taster glasses (2 oz, I believe). The first is free and it's only $1 each after that. It felt more like a retail store than a bar with the lack of seating and amount of merchandise for sale. I could only stay a short time because it was so packed inside and there is no where to stand out of the way or sit. I wasn't a big fan of the ambience but I rated it a little higher because my friends that were with me had a blast though and they seemed obsessed so maybe others would like it too. I'm all about this place! Small sample only tap room ( NO PINTS stamped everywhere). Great beer at a commercial spot on a small residential side street in downtown Bend. We saw Boneyard beer on the menu at a number of Oregon establishments, and enjoyed a pint of the RPM IPA, so I was excited to visit the tasting room. The tasting room is small, with friendly staff who seem eager to keep things moving. They are tasting only, so no pints. One taste is free, and the rest are $1 after that. Or you can go big and taste everything. We split the tasting of seven beers. ($6) Their beer is really good and they will happily fill up growlers and/or crowlers to go. They know it too, and the myriad of tattoo art, skulls, black color theme in the tasting room, along with its location in a garage/shed location and RPM and triple IPAS are a tribute to punk rock beer brewing. Don't expect much from the tasting room (nothing but great beer) since they don't serve food and their main business here at the shed (the tasting room is literally a shed) is to offer beer to soon to be fans, sell growlers and brew like gangbusters in the back room. This place is about as bootstrap as it gets. They have a great rags to riches story of bailing on their struggling construction business during the downturn, to financing their own beer making, to being so successful that they make more beer in this tiny facility than seems possible given strong demand. This beer producer is rock star cool, and the product tastes great --its a great product from their Red, to their Triple IPA to their habanero beer packing serious heat. Attitude? Sure. Boneyard Brewing is like that cool person you know who oozes so much cool that you hope maybe you can accumulate a little by association. They're not trying to be like everyone else on the brewery scene, they're just doing their own thing and doing a damn good job of it. For one, they are in a residential area. Think a large workshop blasting rock music. We noted the sign on the door that said "cash only". Doh! Returned a bit later and entered the tasting room. It's small and accumulated with various beer paraphenalia along with fliers for beer events both in Bend and Portland and a couple of snowboards. The focal point is the large cooler adorned in stickers that contains the kegs. You read their story on the wall and find that they assembled their brewery off of salvage from other breweries all over, hence the boneyard. Onto the beer. Since it's a tasting room you can only do tastes of the beer or purchase it to go. No food. They give you one taste for free and a flight of their five beers on tap is $5. It's enough to share between two people but I'm glad we each got our own this time. Their red is probably one of my favorites I've had this year and I've been crushing on their RPM IPA since I first got to try it a few months ago. They also usually have an Experimental beer and the one when we were there (Halloween weekend) was phenomenal. You're going to want to purchase some to go and they offer it in jars, growlers and those hydro flask growlers that are all the rage with the beer geeks. The two ladies running the tasting room were exhuding so much coolness they didn't even know what to do with it all. They somehow kept track of exactly what taste everyone was on which was no small feat considering it was pretty packed the whole time we were there and our glasses were never empty for a second. They weren't even phased by the beer bus that rolled up. Just another day. Total pros and the tasting room was all the more relaxed for it. Casting aside the Beer Bus Tours and the Ale Trail shuttles, we decided to do our own walking tour of Bend's breweries. And while we started with Boneyard, might I suggest starting elsewhere, if only because Boneyard is the best! and if you're like me, you save the best for last! Wednesday's are growler deal day. The whole time we were there -- an endless parade of growlers being filled. If you've stuck around for a few, there's a great Taco Shack right around the corner. But do keep in mind, there's no meals, or even full pints here, but the tastes and growlers were my favourite in all of Bend. Filled with Girl Beer, Wit Shack, Hop Venom and a few other brilliant brews (5 tastes for $5 or 2 free samples when you visit or are in filling up your growler) we heard the story behind Boneyard, and got to know the proprietors. And you know what? Melodee is seriously the best! Like in an above-and-beyond kind of way. She blew our minds. When they were out of branded growlers, she had Clay bring one from their home, just so we wouldn't go back to Vancouver without it. Now that is just plain amazingness. - Locale Destination - It's on NW Lake Pl and 97 Bend Pkwy in Bend, OR. It's located in a residential area. The tasting room is pretty small - no chair, not so much room. You can't drink it outside, so expect to stand and drink. Around the brewery, they have a car, motorcycle, and whatever with their logos. It's like saying "We're bad asses!" ;p The staff were all friendly. You can see the tanks through the tasting room or right next to the entrance. Cash or check only!!! Street parking - check the sign on the street. They parked in the same directions for both side, which is very weird to me. Is that normal in OR?? I don't know.. - Gluttony Expedition - They have only 5 beers. But the quality is good! 4 beers for $3 - by tasting size small glass (it's a lot bigger than the regular tasting glass). Diablo rojo fuego: habanero chipotle in it! Ugh, it's very spicy! It'll burn your throat. Hop venom W IPA: Very greenish/herb like flavors. I don't like it. Rpm - Indian pale ale: 6.9% abv, 50 ibu. Medium body, light in taste - well balanced nice beer! Bone a fide pale ale: Medium body, very hoppy, burnt flavor. Not my thing. Diablo rojo: Very light body and light in CO2. Very mild. Not bad! - Conqueror's Deduction - 3.5 stars. They don't have many beers, but they are good quality beers. I guess all the beers here have a mid body with less CO2. Boneyard Beer. The home of the infamous RPM IPA. There have been 2 IPA's that I adore. If I had to choose 1 for the rest of my life, It would be RPM IPA. This was the first IPA I ever fell in love with. A dominant hoppy taste, clean malt profile and tad floral, it's a beautiful thing. We shot over to Bend for the Bend Brewfest back in mid August. What a good idea. Along with enjoying TONS of vendors displaying their delicious beer, we had the chance to visit all the breweries I've had on my wishlist. Let's get it straight folks....this is a TASTING ROOM. Clearly many people know that, but there's a few 'tards out there who just don't get it. Small tasting glasses, growlers etched with the glorious Skull and Crossbones, Boneyard Swag for days, there's something for everyone at this place. This place is PERFECT if you're looking to test out new beers, find one you like, throw it in a growler, and grab a gift for someone on the way. The girl who was pouring the brew was really nice and very knowledgeable about the beers that were on tap. There's nothing more frustrating than going into a brewery and saying, "So what's that IPA like?" and getting a response such as, "I dunno....beer?" Yes, I've heard that before. The epitome of a hole in the wall place, I don't think you could fit more than 20 people in the tasting room, but hey that's what makes it special right?! Did a round of flights, and you get to taste ALL the brews they have, and it' was super super cheap, i think there were 4 of us that got the tasters for 5/6 beers- and it all came out to around $30!! Insanity! Another awesome thing they do is what I like to call the Shot Ski, basically they have a ski and they set little boots on there and you just chug the beer of your choice with 3 other friends, it's so fun! And I don't know if this is the norm, but we did ours for free! so maybe you purchase some drinks and the Shot Ski is for free? But in either case, definitely a must try!! read more

How have I not reviewed this place yet?! Let's just get one thing out of the way: This is easily the best brewery in the state of Oregon, no small feat. Maybe it's because I'm a hops guy, but the juicy, fruity, citrusy, punchy hop character in their beers is unbeatable. This isn't a touristy nachos-n-pizza-n-firepit Bend brewery. It's where you go to drink the best beer in the state, and hang out with people all over the world that have come to worship beside you at the Mecca of Hoppiness. Make some friends, sip some samples, and...please...you MUST take a growler home. Their only flaw is that they do not can or bottle, which makes this recently-relocated Alaska resident a saaaad panda. Oh well, always looking for an excuse to get back down to Oregon. read more

Boneyard Beer is Bend Oregon's best brewery. Their RPM IPA is a well balanced, delicious, and moderately hoppy. Has mild citrus notes and is easy drinking. Black 13 Ale was incredible. Chocolate, coffee, a hint of toffee. We liked it so much we bought a growler to take home. Armored Fist, their Imperial porter, was spectacular for a an imperial. at 80 IBU and 11% alcohol I was expecting the beer to be a kick in the teeth. Instead, I found a smooth-drinking and exceptionally tasty "sleeper" imperial. Armored Fist is dangerously delicious - drink with caution or you might be worshiping the porcelain throne. Overall Boneyard Beer is the best brewery we visited in Bend and is tied head-to-head with Rogue for my favorite brewery in Oregon. You would be a fool not to go by their tasting room for your two, free, four ounce samples... What's even better than great beer? Cheap great beer! Just talking IPA for a moment: Boneyard is hard to beat. The RPM is great, and the Hop Venom (double IPA) is stupendously delicious, and the Notorious (triple IPA) is just stupid magnificent. Any brewery anywhere in the world will be hard pressed to surpass this stuff. Really. On my recent visit I also had the Suge Knite (get it?) Imperial Stout, and the Lucky 13 Black IPA. Both fantastic. The brewery doesn't have a fancypants tasting room or million dollar restaurant. Boneyard is bootstrapped, working man's brewery. They don't have cans or bottles either. Not yet. This is a strictly draft operaton. Consequently, their tasting room is Spartan. You can taste some samples, and then buy some growlers. But these folks are the shit. Are you serious about beer? The Boneyard Brewery is a very cool place. We arrived after checking out Deschutes and the brewery tour on the Ale Trail shuttle. We were greeted by a big dog who resembled a bear. Upon entering the taproom, you immediately understand what the "boneyard" theme is. There's skulls and crossbones spread all over to compliment their theme. Melodee greeted us with a list of the free samples and we of course dove right in. The first beer we tried (which was my favorite) was the Girl Beer. It was light and a bit sweet like a wheat beer. We chatted with Melodee while she poured our samples and we learned about their unique way of obtaining brewing equipment, but sharing their skills and time with other breweries. If you're in Bend you should definitely stop here! It's a short walk from downtown and worth the walk! read more

The best brewery in all of Oregon, and I drink a lot of beer. It's rare to find a place that makes such excellent beer in all categories. Personally, I hate IPA's like poison, but their RPM IPA is excellent. Also, the Bone-A-Fide pale ale is crazy tasty. Hoppy and grapefruit-like, but seriously easy to drink. Still, the beat they have is of course the Suge Knite barrel aged imperial stout. Best stout I've ever had. The shop is cool and Tap Man Dan Keeton was awesome to chat with while tasting some wicked good brews. read more

First off, this is very much a taproom for tasting and growler fills. That said, it is extremely cool and the ambience is great for such a small place. The beer is one of the best beers in Bend... make that Oregon. Their staple IPA is RPM. Hop Venom is an excellent Double IPA. Occasionally, if you're lucky, they will have Notorious on tap, which is an 11.5% Triple IPA. If you're into something lighter, try the Bone Light, a tasty ISA. You should also budget for some swag. On a recent trip to Bend I wanted to make a stop here as a priority in our brewery tour but the facility where the general public can go is actually very small. In fact what they have here isn't exactly a taproom at all. You can go in and get samples of their various types of beer or get a growler fill but that is it. You can't get a pint here at all. You would need to either buy their bottled beer somewhere or see if a tap house has some of their beer in order to get a pint. Despite the size of the place Boneyard is very popular and if you go on a weekend chances are you will run into a line with everyone else trying samples. You have to stay in the reception area while you drink the sample and you cannot go outside to enjoy it. Very restrictive. Steve and I tried three of their beers in sample form. I had the Wit Shack which was a Belgian style white ale with coriander and orange peel as it's flavor. Not bad. I also sampled the Bone A Fide pale ale which was ok but I liked the wit better. Steve tried the Black 13 which he just thought was ok. All in all I liked the wit the best but such small samples sometimes I feel that the actual flavor of the beer can be a little deceiving and that at a minimum to get a good idea of how a beer should taste would be in the size of a schooner. I saw during our visit here that Boneyard may relocate or open a bigger and actual tap room that may serve food. I very much hope that this happens as I think I would get a better idea of how their beer is.... or I could just buy some from the bottle but off the tap is usually what I enjoy most. They have lots of swag at this location for sale and the logos are pretty cool. You can also go to the Boneyard website and buy their swag as well which I actually preferred in doing... the small reception area was a bit overwhelming with all of the people! read more

What a fun place to grab a very delicious beer and hang with friends! They have several sitting areas, but can be very busy so be prepared. Not that it's a"deal breaker" but there is no table service. You stand in line and order what tickles your fancy! I suggest grabbing a second if you can drink it fast enough to not get warm. The lines were long! I grabbed a RPM IPA and it was a very good choice! We also got the Charcuterie Plate that was pleasantly surprising. It was even more tasty than the visual presentation. Glad we checked it out. And on my next visit I will definitely go back! read more

I'm going with a four star review here. I fully believe in supporting business with limited capital get their dream off the ground, which is my impression of the business here. I hit up Boneyard Beer on my circuit of the microbreweries of Bend. An unpretentious place, the beer sampling is somewhat limited. No real place to sit, and the tasting room is really no frills. The good people of Bend know what they like and they like Boneyard. A patron coming into fill up his growler noted that the Hop Venom "changed his life." It was certainly one of the best IPA's I've ever consumed, however, I don't know about the whole life changing experience thing.............. Unfortunately, they do not bottle or can their beers, so your options are somewhat limited if you're visiting the area and don't have a growler or mini growler/bottle to take their beer home with you. (Minus one star). Nevertheless, this place is definitely a locals spot to get good beer. Prices aren't exactly cheap, but this is quality craft beer. I think once they at least consider bottling their beer into six packs I can see their business taking off. Good luck to the folks at Boneyard. read more
