When I visit Bend I always eat at Cafe Yumm at least once, sometimes more. The location at Old Mill is the OG when they first franchised. It's easy for take out or a casual meal. Order at counter or perfect for delivery. Love all their bowls, always get a BBQ tofu skewer bc they are so tasty and we never leave Bend without a bottle of Yumm sauce to take home. Was sad they no longer offer the tempeh Ruben but the jazzy bowl is still very satisfying. read more

The service is wonderful, but the food is incredibly overpriced for a "bowl of rice". There were only three tiny pieces of chicken in my bowl! the bowl was 3/4 brown rice a tablespoon of black beans, and the almost invisible chicken! I won't go back. I'm sad they are so close to us. read more

During my year and a half living in Bend, I only ate here twice. Have always been a fan of the Cafe Yumm brand since discovering them in the PDX Airport some years back and then seeing them pop up all over Portland. Good food, healthy and still quick putting it to the top of my "fast food" favorites if I need to grab something on the go. This location in Bend fits the mold and I felt like I didn't miss a beat in stopping here compared to the regular Yumm haunts I went to eat at in Portland. I came here after several hours of exercise. I wanted a healthy lunch. It's basically a Mexican bowl. Brown rice, avocado, beans, salsa, cheese olives, sour cream and cilantro is the original, there are very little variations. You can have it in a wrap or salad. There are 3 sizes - S,M,L the M and L look very similar so I got the medium. All in all it was good. I've had better tasting bowls. Nonetheless, it was easy and what I needed at the time. I like the taste, but, $18 plus tip for a small bowl of rice, beans, carrots and about an ounce of chicken for lunch is ridiculous! Restaurants keep raising their prices because of the increase in food prices and increase in payroll costs etc. so I understand that, but I do not understand serving smaller portions with less meat on top of the higher prices. Pick one or the other. I know that the bowl I just ate was about $1-2 worth of ingredients. I feel like restaurants are taking advantage of the already inflated costs by shrinking portion size and I find it disturbing. Next time I will buy my own ingredients, toss them around in a pan with some sauce and save $16. read more

Good food, good people but a very poor design to place your order. The menu board comes 8 feet after the register. So you if don't know the menu, start an order walk 8' to read the menu. It's not a simple menu so take your time to figure it out and make want you want. Then go back to the register place your order. Don't mind that the line is backed up. It's not your fault. It is designed for this to happen. There are many ways to fix this problem they just don't want to do it. It's my 4 time hre in 4 years. It has always worked this way so it must be what they want. I'll be back again in a year and once more experience this careless approach to customer oriented design. read more

An up and coming restaurant where you can get rice bowls. There are several to order from off the menu or you can choose your own toppings. You can choose from three different sizes. The small is very small - like a snack size, the medium would be a normal meal sized portion. The Yumm sauce is very good and they sell it to take home, in a small jar or a large bottle. I get so excited when I'm traveling through a town that has a Café Yumm in it. Called my order in, drove straight there and it was ready for me. Couldn't decide on my drink and Amber behind the counter helped me figure out that their strawberry lemonade is rockstar. Had a great chat with her, she took such good care of me. Always consistent quality and taste, always such a treat. Took a bottle of sauce home with me, wish I could replicate it at home but I will always keep trying. Cafe Yumm in Bend is a franchised location of the mother company run out of Eugene. Like all Yumm locations, the one in Bend offers a menu of fresh combinations of mostly vegetarian and vegan food. at reasonable prices This review is based on four lunch time experiences at Yumm. BOTTOM LINE: While it is not a place I think of as "destination eating", for quick healthy food it is a decent option if you don't mind standing in line to order, cafeteria style, and carrying your food on a tray out to the table. Seating at tables that are "sardine can" tight. . In the Old Mill Shops so convenient for a bite before a movie at the nearby theater. But overall, there are many other options in a similar price point for food in the area that are a better dining experience. FOOD: Menu ranges from signature rice bowls (rice with different beans or veggies and different sauces and toppings), to wraps, to veggie or fish burgers to skewers (including chicken) to salads. The Yumm sauce, which is the originator's creation that launched this ship over two decades ago, has lots fans even if one of them is not me. . (I think it's available to purchase separately for home use?) ACCESSIBILITY: if someone with you uses a wheelchair or other mobility aid, as do about 11% of the American public, goes to Yumm they may find the following barriers: The entry is accessible but the order process at the counter is difficult for space. The service bar for accompaniments and serve ware is set too high, violating ADA standards and state code making the "stuff" there unreachable. The seating can be so tight that it fails to keep the 36 inches clear passage requirement of the standards making a wheelchair user's ability to get to a table very difficult. read more

You know, when you run a restaurant as poorly as this, one question keeps arising: why bother? If you're the owner, why would you allow your restaurant to operate with chipped walls, filthy floors, filthy kitchen, disinterested employees, and mediocre food? If you're a customer, why would you continue to patronize such an establishment, when there are numerous alternative choices available - all within minutes? If you're the property manager for the mall, why would you elect to renew the lease of a business clearly in decline, bringing down the perceived quality of the entire mall? All of these imponderables have an answer - I just can't come up with it. Being regular customers of Café Yumm! for the past five or so years, we've seen a steady decline at this restaurant. Initially, it provided hot, healthy and delicious food fairly quickly for a good price. However, we've seen the place gradually fall into disrepair over the past couple years, choosing to ignore the trend because we remembered how good it could be (and how good the Portland Airport location continues to be). However, tonight's "dinner" was intolerable. First, we were told that, because they were short staffed, we were encouraged to take our food to go, even though there were three visible employees. Second, when my wife ordered one of the soups, she was informed that they were almost out, and that they could serve her what was remaining (the dregs). Ugh. Third, the Yumm Bowls we got (served in paper, to-go bowls) came out cold (not even lukewarm), with hard rice, beans and avocados. The floor in the restaurant was grimy and filthy, and the kitchen (see attached picture) is an absolute joke. To add to the aforementioned problems, the staff appears to not care what image is presented, the quality of the food they serve, nor the cleanliness of the restaurant. I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anybody. I wish the Old Mill would revoke Café Yumm's lease and instead, find a tenant interested in providing another good dining option in Bend. This will be our last visit to this restaurant - although I don't expect the owner, manager or employees to notice or care. read more

Do NOT eat here! My friend ordered this place on DoorDash and I thought their tofu options were pretty innovative. However, next time, I went to the old mill location and there was a decent line to order inside. When it was about to be my turn to order, I see one of the safe members in the kitchen use there bare hand to wipe their nostrils and then proceeded to touch the food. Disgusting! I had to walk out due to their lack of cleanliness standards. Fast forward to me in need of a quick lunch a few weeks later. I decided to try a different location off of Neff road. BIG mistake! The person who took my order was nice and the food came out fast. I ordered the BBQ tofu skewer bento box and the coleslaw was just shredded lettuce that took up most of the plate. We frequent Cafe Yumm in the Eugene area and it is one of our favorite "go to" places to eat. Sorry to say this location in Bend did not measure up. We were there for dinner tonight. The young lady at the register was terrible. She didn't smile and barely spoke to us in a whisper. The dining area was in a poor state for a restaurant that was not busy. We were the only people in line and there were customers at one other table. Yet the drink station was dirty, there was a cleaning bucket in plain sight near the bus station and the floor was filthy with mashed food etc. The good news is we liked our bowls. Welp. Don't order a TOGO if you plan on it being quick. This location doesn't have a "TOGO line". So you know that long line they're known for? Yep. You're standing in it. I ordered my TOGO order 15 min earlier than I needed it and not even during the lunch hour and I still waited 15 min in line...yea super fun When I finally got to the register the first thing the chick says to me, "So bad news. We're out of avocado". I'm vegan that's pretty much the only thing in my bowl. So I ask her why there isn't a TOGO line. Her response? "Our store isn't set up for one and we don't have the staff." Worst possible answer ever. So I wasted half my lunch in a line I didn't belong in and I didn't even get what I wanted as my bowl came with Sour Cream, Cheese and no Avocado...a vegan's dream. read more
