Beautiful setting and ambience! Went here with a couple girlfriends to celebrate our holiday dinner. To my surprise after specifically booking the restaurant (booth seat, away from the restrooms or main walkway) we got seated at the worst table. Not only was it not a preferred booth but we were right in front of the door and somehow felt in the way of passing servers and customers. What a disappointment! It was freezing that night. So we had an amazing server that was very attentive to filling our water and checking up on us. Onto the food side of this review, I ordered the seasonal fish which was a black cod (flavorful and well done, can't complain too much). As for my other friends, one ordered the hanger steak (turned out to be cold as if it was made first while waiting for the other entrees to finish cooking) and the other had the muscovy duck breast which lacked flavor. I wouldn't go back for the food necessarily but the ambience is nice and the waiter did a great job making sure we were well taken care of (despite the fact we were too hesitant to announce such little satisfaction with our meals). Our dinner at Lark was an exquisite experience. Nearly everything from the amuse-bouche to the dessert was mind-blowingingly good. We ordered almost everything on the tasting menu, but my personal favorites were the sunchoke velouté, foie gras, duck breast (served blue rare, to our surprise), and meyer lemon sorbetto. The best thing about Lark is that the dishes aren't just amazing, they're interesting. I was intrigued and blown away by every course, and there were pairings and textures I wouldn't have ever expected, but they tasted fantastic. You know how in the movies, a couple goes on a date at a fancy restaurant and they waiter puts down a huge plate and the food is the size of a quarter? That's kinda how I felt about this place. Why does high quality ingredients = small portions? Our jaw dropped when we saw the small amount of food. $40 for tiny bowl of pasta. Honestly it wasn't impressive and nothing on the menu really stood out or wow'd me. Service and ambiance was fine but the bathroom situation was weird, (especially if you're on the upper level) definitely got lost and had to ask for help. Overall, there are plenty of places in Seattle that offer high quality ingredients, reasonable portions, AND interesting menu items so prob won't be coming back to Lark. read more

First things first--I just want to say how much I appreciate how well lit this restaurant is. For an upscale restaurant at night, my friends and I were able to read the menu and see each other and our food so well, which took us all by surprise. It still has the pleasant dimmer dinnertime ambience to it, but it was noticeably brighter than most $$$ restaurants. We came for restaurant week, and we all really enjoyed the food. I got the lamb belly steamed buns for an appetizer, which came with two buns. Super tasty, and the hoisin sauce spread across the little pan was perfect. The bucatini with sage pesto was delicious. The chanterelles were so good, and the pasta overall was really creamy. Although it doesn't look like a large serving, it was still decently filling. One of my and my friends' main concerns with restaurant week is how hungry we might end up afterwards when dining at the nicer restaurants. This, thankfully, was not a problem with this dinner. We were happily and comfortably satisfied. The red wine pear sorbet was a good dessert. The caramelized pear butter just tasted like applesauce to me, and the chiffon cake was alright. It wasn't very moist, but it went well to complement the sorbet, which was very sweet. The service was excellent. Food: 4.9 Foie gras - cooked to perfection, however the granola with the foie gras was just too odd of a combination. Octopus, hamachi crudo starters, also fantastic! Pork belly - literally melted in your mouth. Wagyu hanger steak - also cooked to perfection. The venison - amazing. The duck confit - it was all spectacular. Desserts: chocolate madeleines, pear tarte tatin - also incredible. Service: 5.0 Joan, our server, was fantastic. Thoughtful, great timing on her service and she paid just the right amount of attention to our table of 4 - who had not seen each other in years. Ambiance/Seating: 3.0 Make sure you ask NOT to be seated at the table (there are 3 I believe) near the front door where the entrance/exit to the bar is. It was a very unfortunate table and two of the chairs literally were in the walkway - mainly due to a table of 3 behind us that had a bevy of packages they thought would be appropriate to put in the space between our tables. Instead of asking them to place them on the empty chair, the hostess just moved our table into the walkway. Went there for restaurant week on a thursday night and sat on the mezzanine. Food, wine , and the ambience were great. The food was flavorful, came in a perfect portion size, was not too hot or cold, well prepared and well plated. However one of the servers kept trying to remove the appetizer plates from our table even before I had finished it. When taking orders they didn't take the time to really answer questions, nor did they introduced the food when serving it either (the servers who took orders, served, and cleaned were 3 different ones.. which show the issue is likely the restaurant's policy not the inconsistency among servers themselves). They werent rude or anything, just didnt seem super welcoming and made us feel rushed since the beginning. Understandably it's restaurant week so they were busier and probably wanted to make room for next customers, but we were on tome if not early and took no more than what a normal person would to finish the appetizer... I've bern to several other places for restaurant week and there service was all better. Not cool.. Food/wine = 4.5 Ambience = 5 Service = 2 I would recommend this place if you havent tried it for yourself. But I dont think i will return. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. The service: We had a reservation and were seated very quickly. The host made sure we had enough water and drinks throughout the meal. Our server (I didn't catch her name) was very attentive and patient with our questions. I never felt rushed at any time. She asked us what time we needed to leave (7:30) so she could time how quickly our plates came out. We were outside the restaurant by 7:35. It was perfect. The food: In a word, decadent. We started with the burrata, steak tartare, and paddlefish caviar. The burrata was creamy and surprisingly light, and the raddichio salad had was nicely balanced by parmesan cheese shavings. The steak tartare was chilled just right and served with buttery crackers (I believe they're made in-house). The caviar was also very good but the blini was more filling than we thought. We also ordered the squid ink mantella. I really didn't know what to expect, but this ended up being my favorite dish. It's unique in that it's served with sheets of pasta rather than traditional noodles. The pasta was well balanced by a light and tangy sauce that complemented the crab and mushrooms. For main dishes we chose the rainbow trout special and the burger. The trout was fried just enough to give it a light, crispy outside. Very tasty. The burger was AMAZING, if a little bit messy. The meat was juicy and cooked at medium-rare just as we asked. The raclette cheese didn't overpower the rest of the burger like I thought it might. There was just the right amount. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had The drinks: They had a large wine list, but we opted for cocktails and a beer. The cocktails were very tasty and there was definitely plenty of alcohol. I did think it was odd that one of the cocktail glasses wasn't full. Maybe they just didn't have the right size glass on hand at that moment. They had a small but diverse selection of local beers. The ambiance: Surprisingly calm for dinner time on a Friday night. The restaurant was about half full at the time. I have been to Lark a couple of times and came here this time for Seattle restaurant week. The food is always excellent and the service is top notch. It is a real bargain for Restaurant week. Since it was a rainy night I started with some mulled wine and then had a bottle of wine with dinner. They have a nice drink selection. I started with the Huitlacoche and queso fresco fondue that came with grilled bread. It was an unusual taste, but very good. It is dishes like this that really make eating out so fun. For the main course I had the trout and cous cous. I really love trout but do not often see it served in the Seattle area because of all the good fresh salmon and halibut we get. It was cooked and seasoned absolutely perfectly and the cous cous was the perfect complement. For dessert, it was a really difficult choice. I called a week early to reserve a table for a birthday celebration. I told them specifically that please reserve a good spot for us because I wanted to make a memorably evening for my spouse. Neither of us had been to that restaurant, so my expectation was high (based on there reviews). On that night we got there on time 8:30pm, waited for about 5 mins at the front door. When I told the host my name and my reservation, she told me you "you have two tables to choose - one is on the side, one is in the corner). When I look at those two tables, I was not happy. One was not cleaned, still have dirty glasses on the table. The other table was on the side of the hall way, small and definitely not their best spot. After we sat down, the waiter came and we ordered a brunch of food. After dine around Seattle for past 10 years, we had been to so many good restaurants and had so many good memorable dinner, so the comparison was very obvious. Their food was just ok. Not very impressive. We ordered beef tongue, foie gras and beef tartar to start. Then octopus and pork belly to share. Lastly we had cheese course. Lark is a high quality italian restaurant serving a wide range of dishes in an attractive setting. The restaurant is near the heart of Capitol Hill, just off Broadway and Pike. This means parking will be difficult, but there is the market garage nearby which almost always has space. There is a large space that is divided into a main dining area, a basement (for private events), and an upstairs space called Lark Mezzanine (which has a separate OpenTable page). We were most recently in the upstairs space. Some reviews here speak negatively, but we found it comfortable and attractive (though the main room is clearly nicer). Menu and service are the same in both places. One of the best things about the restaurant is the broad menu. Unlike so many restaurants with high quality modern cuisine, Lark has a wide range of dishes several of which were appealing to us. I especially enjoyed the Pork Rillettes, my favourite dish at this restaurant. Service was at all times great - helpful, polite and friendly. We were eating before a show, and our food was a little slow to show up, resulting in relatively rapid consumption of the main courses. We had warned of timing, but also were slower to order than we intended. We normally find we can leave 90 mins before a show, but here we probably needed 105. Our server clearly worked hard to bring our food in on time. Everyone liked their main courses, though I confess that my Wagyu was just fine rather than amazing, and the promised "crispy potatoes" were in fact more like roasted with just one tiny crispy lump - which was a disappointment. My wife and I follow a Facebook page from a couple who lives in Seattle. I think they do a podcast too. We were visiting and gave it a shot. Damn if they didn't nail it. The space is urban and cool. We started off upstairs at the raw bar. Had some great cold water oysters with the best mignonette I've ever tasted. We could tell by the care they took with something like that, this was going to be a great experience. We then were moved downstairs for a deeper experience. The keyword is EXPERIENCE. Everything we chose was perfect and had a little something to it I had never had or even thought of. The Chef opened up my eyes and I feel like I've grown as a lover of good food. Thank you. We celebrated my birthday dinner at Lark. We made reservations and we absolutely loved the decor and environment. Very industrial yet relaxing and sharp features. Blue velvet seating and clean table set ups. The lighting installations used are stunning and you feel like your under a bed of stars. We started off with specialty drinks and the Montana wagyu beef tartar and the bread with smoked and salted butter. All taste buds were fully awakened by these starters. Come ready to eat and enjoy flavors! Next we shared the mushroom gnocchi which was delicious. It left us wanting more. Salty and earthy. For our main dishes I had the venison loin which was cooked to perfection. My husband had the wagyu hanger steak. We enjoyed both dishes. Quality ingredients and delicious pairings. We shared the hazelnut malt ice cream dessert. It was good but so cold it was difficult to eat. We tried to dive into it and our spoons would cut hard down on the plate so loud. We were embarrassing ourselves trying to eat it. They even brought a scoop of butter pecan ice cream for my birthday and it was full of flavor. Our service was awesome. Attentive and very personable. So incredibly knowledgeable on the food itself and very helpful with tidbits to help us make menu decisions. The food here is definitely a 4+, but as they say in life, there are the detracting elements. First, the ambience is great and the decor is wonderful. I liked that. The menu focuses on fresh food, much of which is locally sourced. The flavors are well-integrated and new.. The hamachi was $12, served with sliced fennel. It was good, though had a bit much salt on it. The corn soup ($12) was also delicious, but really more of a corn milk. IT had a delicious swirl in it with bacon bits. Not any corn kernels i could detect. The serving size seemed on the smaller end. The bison steak ($40) was wonderfully flavored and served rare (which is necessary for bison). It came with delicious sliced figs and fried polenta cakes. It was portioned appropriately. This dish would have been worth $40 if everything were hotter. The plate was under heated, the meat lukewarm, and the polenta cakes just warm. The main drawback at Lark, is the service time. The server was personable and nice, but not actually available that much. The glass of wine took what seemed like an eternity to come, but was really 15 min. I would have ordered another glass for the main course, but had no idea when it would arrive. The dessert (malt ice cream with a 'hard shell' which didn't really have a hard shell, but tasted very good) ($12) took another 20 minutes and a request to ask where it was. The same was true of the table next to me. Perhaps they can smooth this out, but it is odd it takes so long to be served. read more

They baked their own rye bread this morning and it is an extraordinary rye bread. Enough tender meat, sauerkraut and cheese with a whole grain mustard on the side. We split it as it was a big oval sandwich. BEST REUBEN EVER! We were the only ones so we got to sit in the bar and watch the take out food fly out the door. Being a Friday it was very busy. I would gave Lark 3.5*. First impression was that they have such a BEAUTIFUL decor and the lightings are absolutely gorgeous!! They have two floors and each has distinct atmosphere and ambiance. The main floor dining room brings a fancy/classic vibe which is great for romantic dates or formal meetings. The mezzanine upstairs is more on the casual side with long tables that is suitable for group/friends gathering . . The service was great and the restaurant wasn't that crowded on a Sunday night. However, it's sad to say that the food didn't impress me much. I ordered Smoked Ikura Caviar ($18) and Crispy duck leg ( the grilled broccoli rabe was too bitter for me) and Venison Loin. Considering as a upscale restaurant, I found Lark is a little bit on the pricey side and the portion is quite small . The most standout dish to me was the Venison loin ($44) . I never had this before and I was so excited to try how this is different from the steak . . I ordered Venison Loin in medium rare and it came with grilled escarole, porcini cacciatore sauce, crispy polenta cake. It was soooooo delicious. The venison was cooked to perfection, super tender and melted in my mouth. The taste was very similar to beef but the meat was much leaner. I also loved the crispy polenta cake. It wasn't that crispy but it very much resembled soufflé to me and it just went perfectly with the venison. I think the portion was a little bit small (for 2), however, because of the lean meat so I was still pretty filled. I cannot say enough great things about Lark. When looking for a venue for a baby shower several months back, a friend recommended Lark. I'd never been, hadn't had the food or seen their space. I drove by on a busy Sunday morning to check it out and met JM at the front desk. She showed me their two private dining areas (one smaller room downstairs and the large upstairs area known as "Bitter/Raw"), talked about what they'd be able to provide for our event and just won me over in general. I took a risk not knowing the food but figured it would be fine. I chose the upstairs area for it's privacy, large open area and separate bar area. Over the course of the next two months, I stopped by a few times to check various things about the space (measurements, etc), emailed with JM and her partner/chef John and relaxed knowing that they were handling everything. Fast forward to the day of the shower - JM invited us in early, helped us with set-up, didn't cringe when we brought out confetti, a life-size plush giraffe and glitter, and took care to ensure that our every need was solved. Ashley was our server for the day; she was equally delightful, frequently appearing out of nowhere to re-fill mimosa glasses or take away used dishes. The food was amazing. At JMs suggestion, we had an appetizer table featuring monkey bread (I'm sure there was other stuff but I was too obsessed to notice) and then we went with a family style meal including bread pudding French toast with popcorn, green chile omelette with cheese and crispy pork belly kimchi fried rice (there were also several plates of caramelized Brussels sprouts and french fries). It was all delicious although I think that the group favorite was the French toast. The best part of being in the upstairs area was the wide open space. We were able to set up the tables the way we wanted (one big table in the center for eating, a gift table/unwrapping area on one side, "activities" tables on the other side, and a buffet table for appetizers at the other end). We never felt crammed and we were able to move between areas easily and freely. If you're looking for an event space, look no further. While we had a smaller group, I'd say that upstairs could easily accommodate ~25 people with less room to be as spread out as we were. I wouldn't hesitate to book it again and would look forward to working with JM and team. I'll also be rushing back for brunch! read more

I'm on the fence... Been holding off on writing my review. Like the new location, ability to make reservation and the space. Parking wasn't too challenging on a Tuesday night. The food was ok, but I didn't care for the paella style octopus. Felt like the octopus was over cooked and too chewy. Farro dish was a-ok but I've never had a bad Farro dish. Other dishes didn't wow me all that much. Steak was standard but the fried cheesy potato was the one thing that stood out all evening. Delicious and different. Thumbs up. Service was lacking. She was nice and pleasant, but kept forgetting stuff and wasn't very attentive. Had to ask for the wine list twice and had to remind her about our second wine order cause it never came. We met friends here after a wedding (they had made a reservation for us -- first Lark had said no room, but then were nice enough to call them back when they were able to make space!!!). The decor is simple, but elegant. Lighting is low at night, but during the day I'd imagine there would be better light at brunch. Bathrooms are clean. Cocktails are GREAT and there is a large variety to choose form. Really enjoyed the Old Fashioned and some other whiskey cocktails. We had fresh local oysters and tare-tare to start -- both excellent. My husband had octopus as a main and I had pork belly -- both were amazing. Went here for restaurant week and the low quality of the food surprised me. I can't comment on the regular menu but the restaurant week menu was bad. Service was excellent and after learning that our food was not up to our expectations they reduced our bill. The atmosphere was nice but the food was bad. It would have been mediocre for maybe $5 from a sketchy hole in the wall. The tomato soup tasted *exactly* like Amy's canned Cream of Tomato and the rice was mushy. I wasn't able to finish eating the grilled pork. One exception to the poor quality of the food was the Mexican chocolate pot de creme, which was good but not amazing . I was a huge fan of Lark at the old location and this is my first time at the new location. The service is still the same attention to detail as the old location. The environment is definitely more intimate than the old location. The food overall is perfectly executed except for my main dish. It definitely a place where you should order appetizer, main dish, and dessert otherwise you'll leave hungry. We had the seared foie gras and waygu beef tar tar. Both were delicious. For the main course we had charred octopus and i ordered the special for the night, black rock fish. The octopus was perfect, tender and not chewy. The fish i had was kind of meh. It came with steamed cabbage and it was just kind of bland and the fish was over cooked. Their dessert is amazing though. Definitely get the Coconut Sorbet and the Chocolate Madeleines were great as well. Overall the service was great, majority of the food was excellent. This by far takes the cake for worst dining experience in Seattle. I had a few friends visiting town from the Bay Area and thought the menu, ambience, and location looked suitable for our party so I made a reservation via open table (no problems there). The space itself is great; however, the waitress who served our party was rude and seemingly had no desire to assist us. Drink and food orders were taken in haste and the no entree and appetizer recommendations were made upon request. Our appetizer came out, disgusting. My friends burger came out raw, was sent back and returned, still raw, sent back and returned, raw. When asked to prepare the burger medium well: raw. At this point I was over the experience and asked for the check. I waited 10 minutes and finally, fed up with waiting, got up and asked the manager for the check. A minute or two later our rude waitress returned with the check and very snidely remarked "I didn't know you were in a hurry and dropped the check at our table." This place has been on my list of bookmarks for a while, and I finally got to try it! Our friends treated us to dinner here, and it was so good! We started with a charcuterie board, which was one of the best charcuterie boards I've been served. Sometimes, they skimp on the meat, but there were piles of meat, which I loved. Everything on that board was so delicious. We also ordered the seared foie gras to share. Yum. Can't really go wrong with that. For our entrees, I had the duck confit, and my hubby had the pork belly. Both were soooooo delicious! The pork belly was super tender and melted in my mouth. And the duck confit had a perfectly crispy skin, and it was so flavorful. Even the veggies that came with it were delicious. I practically licked that plate clean. Our anniversary happens to be on Valentines and we decided to have dinner at lark and have the special menu they had for that day. Everything was so delicious, the ambiance was romantic and seemed like everyday dining was great too. Our server was thoughtful and kind. She took great care of us during our dinner. I feel like for the price the food should have been even more amazing than it really was. Having eaten in a couple fine dining establishments I had higher expectations coming here. We ordered three starters of Foie Gras, three, one ounce portions of cheese at $15, and the truffle honey roasted carrots. The gnocchi I ordered was just good at best. The texture was lovely but the sauce with it was a vinaigrette with maybe some butter to cut the acid. It lacked reduction and I felt the gnocchi was just swimming and splashing in it. The Wagyu was amazing, the flavor was so good and so tender you could cut with a fork. For the $32 price I would have hoped for more than what looked like four or five ounces. Our friends had the confit and lasagna with chicken, they both had never had anything like it and sis enjoy their plates. The Malted Ice Cream with hazelnut cookies and magic shell chocolate was very good. Our service was impeccable but the food was nothing that I would swoon over. It's too bad since we had come here on recommendation since Crush had closed a day before we were supposed to dine there. If I ever return, it will probably be to try the caviar. read more

It's great. Go there now. Pros: Cool inside (shelves! dangly lights!), really nice host people/staff. They even gave us a little free dessert because they thought we had to wait little between plates (we didn't notice, but wasn't that super nice? Yes, yes it was). Cons: sorta none? Get: the "crispy porchetta something something" from the starter menu. It's a blast of tiny meat goodness. For a cocktail, try the Bon Vivant (a gin thing). Pro tip: the classic "you can forgo a reservation if you go a little-ish and sit at/near the bar". Grab a seat facing at the windows facing out to the sidewalk and people watch. read more

What is not to like about this restaurant? Very diverse menu, everything is expertly prepared, the service is good but not intrusive. I had the Octopus- came with Bomba Rice (don't ask me what that is) in this red sauce that had a hint of smoke and heat. Delicious. Someone else had the Stuffed Squid, beautiful and delicious. And one other person had the Ricotta and chard cannelloni with braised goat. Man, have you had goat? I did and it was great! We all shared some starters that were out of this world. One of the best date nights I've ever had! We got to Lark slightly before our reservation at 7:30pm, but we're told we could wait at the bar while our table was readied. My bf and I got some drinks, him a Kilt Lifter and myself one of the house cocktails, the La Perla with Mezcal. We made a friend with one of the other patrons at the bar and we had some laughs over the hilarity of Valentines Day. We were celebrating our annual Un-Valentines Day dinner tonight, haha. Also, my Bf got a Moscow Mule made with local Rachael's ginger beer...absolutely phenomenal, you must try it. We then were taken over to our table shortly after and the nice gentleman actually carried our drinks over for us. It was a good spot and I liked the partition in the middle separating us from the front portion of tables because it made it feel a little more private. We got water immediately and then were handed menus and Jillian our server explained some menu changes & specials. We ordered some of the bread with butter and smoked lard, wow, yes I ate lard and thoroughly enjoyed it and gladly paid for it. We also got an order of burrata (yummy fresh mozzarella & croutons) and agnolotti pasta with dates & brown butter as appetizers. My bf got the St Helens burger with sun choke chips as his main and he almost fell over due to how rich & delicious it was. I had a bite and completely agreed with him. I got the pork belly with parsnips and it was super yum. We also got a delicious coconut & pineapple sorbet for dessert that was light and perfect to cap off our meal. Service was quick & very attentive by everyone in the restaurant, not just by our server. The space is gorgeous here and I love all of the different nooks with different restaurants within (Bitter Raw bar upstairs, Lark at ground level, and Slab sandwiches for lunch). PS, to find the toilets, go towards the back of Lark and to the left & then follow the restroom sign on the glass door. Once past the door, turn left and then proceed down the stairs. The restrooms are straight ahead once you get to the bottom and just follow the code to open the door from the instructions there. I loved the ambience, food and people here and I'll be coming back for sure for a special night out. It is pricey here but completely worth it as a treat. read more
