Extra Large Pepperoni and Mushroom

Solid Pizza. Large space. Relaxed environment. Good prices. Solid thin crust pizza. Good distribution of sauce, cheese, and toppings. Would have been better with Sourdough crust. Very few people there at 5:30 on a Saturday. Nice big space, both indoor and outdoor seating. Pizza came out quickly. Happy hour from 3-6. Deals on apps and beer. Overall good prices.

Decent pizza place on northside. We got a large pizza to share and the size was pretty good enough for 6 people. I think their pizza is reasonably priced even for the individual slices. Overall solid food. Very lively atmosphere there's a pool table and arcade game inside.

My God. You have to be a misanthropic self-hating pretentious deplorable to give La Val's a bad review. I avoided La Val's for a year even though I lived right down the street. Excellent pizza and pasta (good enough wings) and some of the lowest prices in Berkeley. Please support La Val's or watch it turn into another soulless pan-Asian fast casual.

Was our go to place during lockdown Quick in to order and out to picnic tables in courtyard. Hazy IPA and the pizza was good too. It all still is 4 years later!

Came here with a big group and it did not disappoint! Add red pepper flakes, extra Parmesan, and the green sauce!

La Val's is a solid place to get pizza in Berkeley! Ive visited them a few times and have never been disappointed by the food or the workers. The first time, I tried their mozzarella sticks which were perfectly fried and delicious on their own and with ranch. I've tried their margarita style pizza, veggie pizza, and most recently the cheese pizza. I really like a thin crust and La Val's nails the thinness of their crusts. The sauce could be a bit more flavorful, but again it's pretty consistent. My least favorite of the three i've tried would be the margarita. It was too many tomatoes for my liking. My favorite would definitely be the cheese, it's a classic! I also appreciate that their pizza isn't super greasy. I will definitely be back soon! The establishment is pretty spacious and there are some benches outside in a really cute area which I very much appreciate. I definitely recommend checking them out!

Walt from Walt's Adventures here and my adventure today lands me in Berkeley, California. I found myself at La Val's Pizza. Parking is on the street, they have a great but shared picnic table area for their outdoor seating, and this place rocks! Inside, they have a pool table, Fooz Ball table, pinball machine, and great food. 4 stars because, for me, I think a thicker sauce would be better. I cannot wait to return.

LaVal's is a Berkeley institution and has been a fixture in North Berkeley for decades. Their specialty is pizza though they also have pastas and sandwiches. I recommend sticking with the pizza (past meals of calzone and eggplant sandwich were just mediocre). After the Cal football game, we ordered the LaVal's special with pepperoni, salami, linguica, beef (we substituted double sausage), sausage, bell pepper, onion, mushrooms and black olives. I was expecting cardboard crust but it was surprisingly buttery, light, airy and delicious. The large was enough for 4 people; we also split a Greek salad. It wasn't too crowded inside so we watched some football and played pool. They have a good selection of beer (had a Blue Moon) and wines (good pours on the wine). It's a nice stop before you get back on the road.

La Val's and I go waaaay back. Okay fine... not THAT far back. This was actually my first time trying the Berkeley location. BUUUUT... I have fond memories of dining at their location in Alameda. I've always adored their pizza. When I worked in Alameda some years ago, I would always stop by La Val's for lunch to indulge in their lovable pizza. I was hiking in Berkeley a few months ago and decided to have dinner there afterward. Saw that there was a La Val's just down the road and my face lit up. It had been years since I'd gotten my hands on a La Val's pizza! I already knew I was about to grub. Throw DOWN on a pie! Yessir! And that, I did. This location has a cute communal outdoor dining space that's shared with the other restaurants in the square. Since the indoor dining was closed due to COVID, I decided to have a seat outside on their patio. The interior space is nice and spacious with several TV's mounted on the walls and game tables the dining room. I bet this place is fun when it's open for indoor dining. They had a mini pizza and soda combo special that I happily took advantage of. Went with a classic pepperoni pizza since that's what I remember getting when I used to go to the Alameda location. The guy at the register seemed overwhelmed and it took a while for him to take my order and for my pizza to come out. I'd say, don't come here in a hurry. Have some patience and you'll be just fine. I have to say, the pizza here was just how I always remembered it to be. Cheesy, greasy, flavorful, and yummy! I really like how they prepare their pizza crust. It's crispy on the bottom but still slightly doughy in the middle. Literally the best of both worlds if you ask me. And that's how I love my pies! Is it the best pizza in the world?! I mean, I can say that I've had better. But for the quality and price, La Val's is super solid. I'd happily make my way over here just to indulge in another pepperoni pizza again. It's so tasty.

I like it. I got the medium pizza with two toppings and it was pretty good. The crust is thin.

Each of their slices are huge and great for the price of ~$8! Personally, I find their pizzas to be a bit on the heavier side with their generous amounts of sauce, but great if you're in the mood for some mouth-watering greasy saucy pizza. They operate on a grab n go service, but there are seats and a few standing tables outside. Overall, definitely a pizza spot worth going to when you're in Berkeley!

But Blondie's still knows how to crank out slices that are very satisfying for a quick bite. I got their classic pepperoni and it still plentifully loaded with beef pepperoni on a slice sizable enough to make you think twice before ordering two of them. I stuck with one. Something about the texture does not say dough prepared daily to my palate. Still, it's quick and delicious. The spicy tomato sauce and four cheese blend offer a nice balance to the doughy crust. Slices start as $6.99 for cheese. Vegetarian and a daily special are also available. Whole pies too -- $14 for a small cheese pie. 12 varieties to choose from and sizes ranging from 10' to the 22" Godzilla pizza. Not to mention wings or breadsticks. Order from a cashier or, when it's busy, a kiosk. For seating, there are only 3 small tables + 3 chairs at the window counter. Lot's of standing room or it's easy food to walk with. If you can't find street parking, the Telegraph-Channing lot is relatively inexpensive at $3/hour. Enter from Channing Way or Durant Ave.

Pizzeria da Laura in Berkeley is a fantastic spot for Italian food right in the heart of downtown,…read morejust steps from the university. The location gives it a lively downtown vibe with lots of energy from the surrounding area and nearby students. The reservation and check-in process was very smooth. The staff were incredibly courteous, welcoming, and helpful throughout the visit. I actually arrived about 30 minutes earlier than my reservation time, and they were kind enough to seat us early, which was a really nice touch. One thing I really like about this place is that they update their dishes a few times a year, so every visit can feel a little different and exciting. The menu has great variety, especially when it comes to pizza styles as you can choose from New York, Sicilian, Detroit, and Grandma-style pizzas, and the pricing is very straightforward for all the sizes they serve. The pizza was perfectly cooked and tasted great. They also allow you to customize your pizza by adding or removing ingredients, which makes it very convenient for everyone to choose based on their liking. And they add toppings with open-heart. The pasta was also excellent. We ordered the Peperoncino pasta, and it tasted amazing. The garlic flavor and breadcrumbs were really the highlight and brought out the authentic character of the spaghetti. Another big plus is that they have plenty of vegetarian options, making it easy for different dietary preferences. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for what they serve. Food arrived quickly, and the service from the servers and staff was great throughout the visit. The restaurant also has plenty of space and handles reservations well. The atmosphere is lively with lots of people around and students from the nearby university, which adds to the downtown Berkeley energy. A little more upbeat music could add even more charm to the place. Overall, this is a place I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Berkeley. The first time I came here many months ago, the pizza was better. After having a different Detroit style (Joyride) a few days later I realized that this one was not as good. My biggest issue is that I feel ripped off by this pizzeria. They charged me $3.99 for a takeout fee. I ordered directly on the website and it routed me to Toast. It wasn't even clear that they had a fee for taking out, they kinda slide it right past you. This is the first time I've ever experienced this level of robbery. Just for that, I wouldn't go back for takeout. The pizza is already $33 and what the hell is this fee even for? And they have the audacity to ask for tip on top of this while checking out. It's just insanity. You shouldn't do this to customers. Edit: I was scrolling reviews and saw the manager's response to someone who also complained about this fee, saying they don't control what Toast charges for takeout. Come on, really? You can control what platform you use. That's a poor excuse.
