I've made it a mission to try everything on their menu, I don't know what they do to their retried beans but it's ridiculous makes my mouth water just thinking about them and that's just the beans. My last dish was the Yucatan Home Special it was wonderful, nice and hot, just the right amount of kick, not to salty and full of flavor. They definitely don't send out a dish that has filler to make it look like more you get what you paid for. The value for your hard earned money is reciprocal at La Piñata. To me a place like that shows they value their customers and hold themselves in high regard as they should, they have earned their place in Phoenix must eats. The servings are more then ample I can't remember a time when I successfully finished my food. I am always taking food home, soon as a sense my gauge going empty I finish it off, I'm not letting that goodness go lonely it would be a disservice to the skilled chefs at La Piñata and their dedication to service. Without a doubt this place is one of the best restaurants in the valley. The dining experience is above average the food just takes it over the top as a package it's worth visiting more than once. Very clean, service is friendly it's a great neighborhood restaurant to visit when you're craving top notch food. I'm not easily impressed but 4 stars from me says a lot. Great size servings... I had a cheese enchilada, beef taco, and a green Chile Tamales. The Tamales was a little sweet, but now I have to try them all. The flavors were wonderful. Authentic Mexican... not so sure. It was good but same quality as some Mexican drive thru places I'd say. Service and staff were amazing. Ordered the Cadillac Margarita which was overloaded with ice. We had a La Pinata in the Bay Area (see other reviews on those) but i was SUPER surprised to see the name in Phoenix. While up in California it's Michoacan or Central, this is all about the best Sinaloan cuisine and culture here. I was not let down!! The place is easy to find, and parking is a bit tight, but considering it was packed, that's ok... The drink specials and house stuff was really well put together and they pull a mean Negro Modelo on tap... The service was AWESOME and super fast. Great chips, taste fresh made, great salsa, i want more. All the time. The meals everyone got seemed beautiful so gf and i got her standard, chicken tacos, and i got the Carne Machaca. Super fresh, tasty, well made and well executed. Beans and rice sides were terrific and light feeling. Definitely will come here when in Phoenix. You should too!! Worth going!!! read more

One of my favorites in the Valley, They are known for the chimichangas, however I think their tamales are the best. We always try something different every time we come here. Really haven't found anything bad. Portions are huge, so if you are thinking about sharing, this is the place to do it. Rice and beans are very good. They do offer black beans also. Plates come to your table piping hot, so be aware. The salsa with your chips is a little in the hot side, this is the way I like it. Went there for the first time last night. Service was fine but my food was not eatable. Got the Taco Salad with ground beef. The beef had a very peculiar taste to it, the lettuce was wilted and any guac or sour cream was practically invisible. The salad was served in an extremely stale tortilla bowl. It tasted rancid. I told the waiter about it and he did not offer to exchange or comp this poor salad. My wife got the chimi and ate a few bites. There is no flavor to their foods. My two friends and I had lunch at La Piñata following competing at a dog show at the State Fairgrounds. We were allowed to eat on the patio with our two well-behaved toy dogs. A gentleman (owner?) came out to talk to us and told us how much he loves dogs. He talked to us for about 10 minutes then comped our first round of drinks. Our waiter brought us water and shredded chicken for the dogs. The blood orange margaritas are to die for and their shredded beef tacos are the best and their flan was delicious. Before we left the gentlemen came to say goodbye and encouraged us to bring the dogs back. We'll definitely be back next month after another dog show at the Fairgrounds. read more

This is by far my favorite Mexican food in mid-town. The tacos are amazing, big ass burros, enchiladas, tostadas and tamales. I get the tacos every time though, I dream about the tacos. The taco Tuesday specials and happy hour deals are a steal. I eat here almost weekly and so do all the other regulars I see. The salsa is the real winner here, asked for a side of hot sauce and a crispy cheese crisp with green chilis. It's about as close to heaven you're going to get. read more

I have been coming to this great local eatery for years and have treated my staff to this place many times, we even had a special Holiday Party hosted by this restaurant here years ago that was a hit. I own a small business right down the street and this is one of our go to spots for tasty & consistent Mexican food, dine-in, or pick up is always great. The service is always top notch, drinks are ALWAYS refilled quickly! Servers are always extremely friendly, helpful & smiling, yes we can tell you are smiling under your masks :) An echoing thank you for your service from me as a fellow service worker!! Everything on the extensive menu I and my comrades have gotten here have been great time & time again. If you've been or have lived in Phoenix for a while, you know that we have a lot of authentic Mexican restaurants. La Pinata, hands down, has one of the best Mexican dishes I've had in the valley! We ordered the chicken burrito with rice and beans on the side, and a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. Everything came out sizzling hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The service, although it was a busy Sunday night, was also on point. The free chips and salsa were great. Since it was busy, we waited for about 10-15 mins for a party of two. However, once we were seated, our server was very attentive & took our orders right away. There is a small parking surrounding the restaurant. I haven't tried the drinks yet since there is a bar, but I will definitely be back! read more

Came with a group of friends. Ate the cheese crisp with diced green chiles. No pic cuz we were hungry. Good crunch and not too greasy. Then we ordered our entrees. This place has generous portions! I got the number 5, which had a chicken taco and chicken enchilada. I added a fried egg. Sooo good. Good sauce, easy to cut with a fork and the Spanish rice is so good. I posted pics of what my friends got: number 1, 2 and a la carte. We ordered dessert of fried ice cream. The cornflakes were uniformly encrusted around the ice cream. The shell was a pretty touch. I've come here solo & sat at the bar but also brought different friends here. This is my go-to spot for Albondigas Soup ~ super delish, nurturing, huge portions. As a native Texan, I must say I haven't been able to find a Mexican restaurant in Phoenix that comes close to the "Tex Mex" style of back home, until now! This place is absolutely delicious and has the quality, portion size, and flavor I've grown to love back home. One of the best things about this place, in my opinion, is there is generally never more than a 15 minute wait given the ample space and seating of the restaurant. The staff is also highly attentive and very friendly. Once you are seated, prepare to devour some seriously delicious salsa. Pro tip: don't eat too much of the salsa as the portions here are very generous. As far as the food goes, I always end up getting the fajitas as they are crazy delicious. They also seem to always be perfectly cooked. Never over done! I highly recommend them. Drink selection is pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant. I've had several of their margaritas and they are generally quite tasty without being ruined with too much sugar. All in all, if you want some delicious and hearty Mexican food at an affordable price, this is pretty much my go to in the area. Definitely try it out! Your tummy will thank you :). read more
