Can't say I'm a super big fan of this place but the service is too tier.. we had the nicest waitress. We went on a Saturday night and it was pretty so slow to my surprise but there was always at-least 2 tables seated so when one left there was guaranteed to be another party sat. Nice and clean, mellow music and positive vibe. The food was the part that wasn't my fav. We had a birria taco which was small for the price ($6) but not quite a street taco... that might have been the best thing we had alongside the chips and salsa. I've never tasted these type of beans but never again. We also had shrimp tacos and carne tacos. My new favorite Mexican Restaurant. After too long of planning to check this place out, I finally made it. Boy have I been missing out. Full bar, great atmosphere, and amazing food. I went on a Saturday for the first time and it was such a great experience I doubled back to go the next day. The waitress/bartender Daisy is absolutely delightful. All smiles and great service. There were a few other people dining in so my food came out quickly. Very authentic and reasonably priced. We ended up having dinner at this place because there was a two hour wait at the restaurant we wanted to eat at. It was a Friday night and it was practically empty when we walked in. There was only two people seated at the bar and the baseball game was on full blast. We sat down and the waitress came over right away. She brought us waters, chips & salsa, and the menus. We looked over the menu and settled on: One queso fundido - to share One order of barbacoa rolled tacos One order of potato rolled tacos One bowl with chicken tinga The queso came out a few minutes later and it was lukewarm. It would've tasted much better had it been hot and it got cold right away. Both the chips and salsa were delicious and the waitress ended up giving us more without us even asking. My barbacoa rolled tacos were decent and they had plenty of meat. I didn't really care for the toppings that were thrown on top as they tasted sweet. My friends potato rolled tacos barely had any potato inside and she said it was as if she was just eating the tortillas with no flavor. My sister had a bowl with chicken tinga and she didn't really care for it. By the time our food arrived, more people had walked in so it started to get busy. Our water cups sat empty for a while and then finally the waitress remembered about us and gave us refills. The décor is pretty unique and we had an ok experience. We walked in about 7:30 pm. It was seat your self. We sat at round booth. We immediately noticed the restaurant short staffed (none of the tables or bar in the restaurant had been busted or clean), but we decided to stay due to the yelp reviews. The waiter gave us chips and salsa (the salsa was spilled inside of the chips). When he came to take our order he apologized for it being short staffed. After perusing Century Grand, we stopped here for a bite. It was late afternoon and the place was empty which was surprising, given all of the activity in the shopping center. We sat outback on the patio to enjoy the fresh air, which wasnt necessarily the best thing to do because (in my opinion) we were forgotten about a couple of times. Anyhow, our waittres was nice, and brought chips and salsa. Perhaps is was the bourbon talking, but this salsa was amazingly good. I dont know if it was made with love or crack, but none of us could get enough. I ordered 2 birria tacos and an al pastor taco. Food didnt take terribly long to come out, the pastor with the pineapple was nice, and the birria soup with the twcos was just right. Friday night out with some friends and we were in the mood for Mexican. Papi Gordo's is in a small strip mall in Arcadia on the busy Indian School Road. The parking lot is easy to access and it's a smaller lot so a very short walk to the entrance which is nice. The interior is inviting with purple and blue glowing retro lights along the bar, glossy glass tile backsplash and a fun kitsch bijou waiting area. The restaurant is long and narrow and the blue and purple lights are mesmerizing. We had walked to the restaurant and needed to use the bathrooms. The men's was quite clean but sadly the women's restroom was awful, the floor was wet and it seemed that someone had vomited on the floor. We ordered street tacos, guacamole and chips. Our food choices were ok but the guacamole didn't taste fresh. The decor was nice, the music was fun and zippy but the bathroom experience tainted our dining experience sadly. I might try Papi Gordo's again and I hope that the restrooms will be cleaner. read more

We ordered some taquitos and some street corn and some chicken soup. It was really good. I absolutely love handled taquitos and there were really terrific. Well some places just disappoint, maybe this place is made more for like their dinner menu or drinks but the brunch was nothing to rave about. We were the only table beside some people at the bar and the service was soooo slow. The pozole tasted can and it was so thick. You can taste the difference on a fresh made pot of pozole to something out of a can. The hash plate was more tomato sauce than chorizo. Again can tomato not even a decent salsa. The chilaquiles were ok but nothing to great. The sodas were flat. Probably won't be back given the flavor and service. It's 12:00. I sit down. 10 min later still not acknowledge. "Other" hostess comes over (after me waving like I'm landing a plane) first thing that comes out her mouth is that no more drinks are being serve at that time. Okay. It's not even 12:30, others are getting drinks. But I'm not even here for that .....but whatever. The other hostess. Kyra or something similar is actually trying to accommodate she was great. Communicative even. " this is what we actually have. This is actually what we can do." The other " bump on the log" that states no to everything before I even asked and after waiting 10 minutes is freaking waste of space in a place of business. Standing. Looking. Arms folded. First time experiences do last. And unfortunately I can't recommend this place to anyone. And $26 for four tacos?????? no napkins. No drinks. Are you stupid? on a scale of one to 10 the taste of the tacos were a six And I'm from Los Angeles. Come on please do better. November 10 leaving restaurant at 12:45. We came here looking for tacos. Let me start by saying that it is loud as shit in here. They do play sports games but did not have the whole range of options. The music is super loud. They have booths and tables arranged in a long vertical line. There is outside seating in the back and a bar. The drink menu was large but I didn't order anything - they looked good though. The chips and salsa was the best part. The chips were nice and thick and perfectly salted. The salsa was super delicious and unique. It has a sweetness to it with a slight spice and not too chunky or too watery. Super delicious. The prices were super over priced. The cheapest taco was $6, which is ridiculous. I had 3 tacos, the lobster one to try, steak and birria. The birria one was the biggest of the 3. It was also the most delicious and STUFFED with meat. Super good. The lobster one was not gross but it just wasn't good. I wanted to try it since that's an unusual option but the lobster was fried and rubbery, super hard to chew. The flavor was off to me. The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth but the seasoning was lacking. The flavor and seasoning or what you typically expect a steak carne asada taco was just not there. My boyfriend had the surf and turf burrito. It was HUGE. Steak was flavored and cooked the same as in my taco. The shrimp was actually amazing in the burrito. I love the ambience and decor in this place. So cute! I came with my bestie for happy hour. After 2 margaritas, we left feeling like we wanted needed to go somewhere else for a good drink. She returned her second margarita because it was overly sugary and had very little tequila in it. I would be willing to give it another happy hour try. Where do you start when you come across a spectacular jewel of a location that I couldn't believe wasn't packed when we arrived. The Decor - Cute with lots of accents of flowers and pink lights but still maintains a masculine feel of strength and class. The service ~ Kyra our server, waitresses & Bartender today was On point. A fun and friendly vibe without being overbearing or annoying like so many poorly trained servers can be. Knowledgeable, her recommend on my cocktail was just lovely and smooth ( all 3 of them ). Food ~ the real meat and potatoes of why we really go out 90% of the time~ and when I say potatoes, im not making a vague reference, I'm really Segway into the Amazing Al Pastor baked potato that has a creamy cheese and steak filling that dreams from now on will be made of. I had 4 different Tacos , the Ceviche and lovely chipotle smoked salsa & chips Each Taco out did the previous one, which I found a monumental task but the chef was up to the challenge this day for sure! I wanted 2 more, but just didn't have the room for any more food So obviously I'll be headed back again soon! The Owner ~ just a sincere and nice man. He's one to watch around town. He has a dueling piano bar in tempe, Freshly Laid breakfast place opening North Scottsdale before the 101 next week and one at the end of this location in 3-4 months. Papi Gordo's is a small Mexican style restaurant located in a strip mall in the Arcadia part of Phoenix. We came in early at lunch time. We noticed that every table in the restaurant was left dirty from the night before. I thought my server would offer to wipe our table but she didn't so we wiped it off ourselves. (We should have walked out) We soon receive complimentary chips and salsa. The chips taste slightly burnt and like from a bag...(not like good bagged chips...more like Costco bagged chips). The salsa taste like canned tomatoes doctored up slightly with added hot sauce. We started out with an appetizer called Elote $14.00. It was ok but a little boring. I would never recommend it or order it again. Our plates and silver was cleared. The tacos arrived and we didn't have any silverware. Most of the meats in the tacos tasted like dry stringy beef. The fish taco was ok but seemed reheated. I did ask for a grilled seafood taco but received a fried seafood food taco instead.....so a mistake was made there either by the server or cook. The carnitas taco was ok but was dry today. We also ordered a twice baked potato to share (Arcadia papa loca $14.) We had to ask for silverware to eat the potato. Our silverware needed to be cleaned off because it had soap residue. I used my glass of water to wash off the silverware. The potato was over cooked and was dry and brown inside by the skin. I didn't recognize Brussels sprouts in it unless it was a microscopic amount. The meat in the potato was dry and stringy like pot roast. It didn't have enough of any topping to make it taste good. It was just eating a dry over cooked potato with dry stringy beef...Sauce was on the side but it didn't help. Th menu on Yelp differs some from the actual menu. We were surprised to find a 3% additional charge added on the bill called "processing tech fee" after we were home. The check was never presented to us to review in the store. We tried calling Papi Gordo's several times to inquire but NOBODY ANSWERS THE PHONE and you CAN'T LEAVE A MESSAGE. I was ready to give two stars for the food and service but felt the need to subtract another star for hiding the extra 3% charge. read more

Came here for the their Sunday Brunch. They were having an event kick off. The beginning was a bit rocky but they got their footing together. Their brunch menu doesn't have a lot of items but what they have is really good! Ordered their egg hash that comes with eggs, potatoes and chorizo. It was really good, I asked for a side of tortillas. They make purple corn fresh tortillas they were sooo good! The food was very tasty! Food was decent at a decent price. All cocktails are $14 but if you ask them to make it with house liquor it'll only cost you half that! I had a Birria taco which was good and the ahi tuna tostada which was not so great, overdressed with sauce and a little fishy. For our drinks, we got the Desert 76 with house liquor and it was good. When we went in it was only one other party. Drinks came out quickly and we didn't have to wait much longer for the food. Waitress abc bartender were super nice. Unfortunately they didn't have the appetizer we wanted to get (street style baked potato). All in all not a bad meal, I would rate this as a 3.5. read more
