We went for restaurant week, and it was such a great deal. We got there 7:30 on a Saturday night and no wait. The place is pretty large and lots of booths, our favorite! We got chips and salsa right when we sat down - yum! For $55 for a couple, we got a drink, my boyfriend a beer and me a mocktail margarita, appetizer between guac and queso, we chose queso, entree each, and choice of churros or flan, we got flan. I'm happy I asked for a mocktail, it was tasty. Still quite sweet but a nice refresher for the queso and salsa that were a little spicy (like teeny spice). The queso was rich and had chunks of spinach which I liked and came out steaming hot, so good to eat fresh. I got the blanco chicken enchiladas and they were massive. With the app and dessert, I could eat only so much and had enough leftover for about two more meals. The enchiladas were PACKED with chicken. The sauce wasn't super heavy, it was great. The side of tomatoes and lettuce was a nice touch for a little bit of veggies and added flavor. The beans also had cheese on it (a very cheesy night) and the Spanish rice was seasoned well. It didn't need queso on it and I was planning to use some! My boyfriend got the chicken burro which was also packed with chicken and he enjoyed it a lot! He also couldn't finish his and usually he finishes everything. The flan wasn't the best I've ever had but it still hit the spot. This was my first time at Ajo's. We went with a big group, and they were able to accommodate us in one of their back rooms, which was nice. Our server did a great job taking care of all of us and was super friendly! The food and drinks were good, but the tacos were a little greasy. we used to LOVE coming to Ajo Al's and for a while we went weekly. then came the pandemic. We went back several times after the pandemic but the turnover was so huge it wasn't the same. The communication between the waitstaff and kitchen seemed non-existent. Sour cream on the side ended up INSIDE the dish and for a while it was just difficult to eat there. Then it got better for a while. Then we went back again today, wife is allergic to lettuce ordered tacos with NO LETTUCE, what she got was Tacos with LETTUCE, but NO CHEESE or TOMATOES (mine had all three as ordered). Server B confirmed NO LETTUCE when taking the order. Order was delivered by a different wait staff member. B did stop by and saw my wife removing all the lettuce from her tacos but said nothing. I've seen him there before, so he's not brand new. B we usually tip 25% but not today. we didn't stiff you, you don't deserve that, but if you want to succeed in life (no matter the gig) learn to listen and pay attention. It matters. So Al's we've been coming to the Glendale location since 2018, but we probably won't be back anytime in the near future. We've given you lots of chances. Great Mexican food with great service. The decor was festive for the holiday season. The staff were all very friendly. I visited with friends during happy hour which has some decent deals. The "mini" margarita is actually a decent size for a good price. The free chips and salsa is excellent. It had a good level of spice for me which I enjoyed a lot. For an entree I ordered the carne asada burro. The flavor of the meat and filling was exceptional. The only downside was I thought the tortilla was a little tough at times but was a small issue. We got the small one this time as last time when we ordered the large it was too much for just two of us. A couple immediate observations about the restaurant: it's loud and casual. This place can suit all ages and there were several large groups in attendance. For food we ordered the Mexican pizza and the beef chimichanga with red sauce. The Mexican pizza is huge and can easily be split with 3-4 people. The chimichanga was good but not exceptional, the main reason behind the three stars is that the price is high for average mexican food. The food was a little bland but adding the salsa from the complimentary chips and salsa provided a nice flavor. My group had exceptional service and were impressed with how attentive and kind our waiter was. Overall, it's a solid weeknight Mexican food option if you're a local and like the classics. read more
