Food was decent at a decent price. All cocktails are $14 but if you ask them to make it with house liquor it'll only cost you half that! I had a Birria taco which was good and the ahi tuna tostada which was not so great, overdressed with sauce and a little fishy. For our drinks, we got the Desert 76 with house liquor and it was good. When we went in it was only one other party. Drinks came out quickly and we didn't have to wait much longer for the food. Waitress abc bartender were super nice. Unfortunately they didn't have the appetizer we wanted to get (street style baked potato). All in all not a bad meal, I would rate this as a 3.5. read more

Thanks to one of the hosts across the street at Century Grand for recommending Papi Gordo's. Such a hidden gem. The service, the drinks, and the food were great! Luckily we were seated right away and Marissa was our server. She was so down to earth and friendly. She helped make the experience great! She had good knowledge of the menu, good recommendations, and the pics she took of us were perfect! For the cocktail, I had the Arcadia Nectar. It had a strong ginger taste first and then you tasted peach afterwards. One of my friends had the Diablo and it was very similar. You just tasted the Peach first and then the ginger afterwards. They both tasted great, though! I'm not a fan of guac so my friend asked for some pico de gallo for me with the chips. The pico was amazingly fresh and tasty. For the meal, I ordered a crispy fish taco and a grilled shrimp taco. Both were excellent! Loved the vibe, the food, the trendy decor, and the service. Highly recommend! read more

This is a new, very nice bar restaurant on Indian School in upscale Arcadia(next to the famous Book Gallery). I had a comfy booth to myself. The Chef, Albert, brought me out some of his own choices and I really enjoyed it. The Street Style baked potato was huge with tons of meat, bacon, cheese and salsas. It was the best potato I had in 2021 and enough for 2 meals. My ramen soup bowl with pork was also delicious. The meat tender, hot and cooked perfectly(world class Chef Albert). For dessert, I had the sugary churros which were also the best I had all year. There's a nice bar and college basketball on the screen with no audio so non watching patrons are not annoyed. I just recently tried this place based on a friend recommendation. I have been twice now for Taco Tuesday and Happy Hour. The tacos are loaded! For TT they are 2-3 dollars off each taco. The steak taco is fantastic. I also tried the pork belly, a birria, and a lobster taco. All of them were great. I"ll be coming back again for sure. I'm looking forward to trying their Elote'. I went on Tuesday 2/22 just before happy hour ended it was really busy but the lone bartender held it down the best he could. Although he couldn't get to me until after 7pm he honored HH prices for me and the couple sitting next to me. 2 additional staff finally arrived to help bartender, and it definitely made for a better experience. The food was decent, but the service was absolutely terrible. We went in on a Tuesday early evening and the restaurant was near empty with only 2 other couples in the restaurant. After ordering a drink and appetizer that came fairly quickly, my husband ordered a drink and we ordered our meals. During the time we got the first drink and appetizer and ordered our meals, some altercation happened between the two other couples in the restaurant. It appeared that one of the couples was the server's friends. The altercation seemed to have made our server disoriented and nearly dismissive of us. My husband never received his drink after the server came to the table twice and said she would be back with it. We also had to ask for the rice we ordered because it never came out with our meals. The server was completely distracted by the incident that occurred and seemed to be more concerned about her friends than the service she was providing. I feel this incident could have been handled differently. We will most likely not return. read more

Found this spot through TikTok and decided to give it a try. We went on Sunday evening and it was busy. They had one server and 1 bartender and every table was full. The girls were doing the best they could and despite being short staffed they provided great service. The food was delicious and the vibe was awesome. A few friends and I were visiting Phoenix for the weekend. We were going to another bar in the area and decided to stop at Papi Gordo's prior to. It was a pretty casual spot with nice accent wall decor. We decided to get drinks for their reverse happy hour. It was $3 for well drinks. I got a rum and cranberry. It was decent. I decided to get the chicken enchiladas. They weren't bad but one was a little dry in the middle. The rice was really good and it was a good portion size. Service was good. Came in for weekend brunch with a group of 19 to celebrate a birthday and they were amazing. I am very particular with mexican food, being Mexican myself, and their brunch was delicious. Whoa, this place is fantastic. We went in on a Friday lunch with zero traffic - this is the only lunch day they are open during the week - and had the place to ourselves. Beautiful garage door opens on the back to just a couple tables on the outdoor plaza and the ambience was great. But the food, oh the food, was creatively prepared and beautifully presented. We eat a lot of Mexican food, but the street corn with elote had flavor and a tinge of sweetness and creamy body beyond compare with anywhere else I've ever eaten Street corn. The Molé was just outstanding, fantastically rich but equally subtle and smooth with a great balance between the tomato and spice elements, and frankly blew my mind a bit in the creativity of the presentation. The others in my party had some beautiful enchilada plates and a burrito. And to cap it off the chips and salsa were just utterly fantastic, and although I will devour just about any chips and salsa, I consider myself a salsa snob and their lineup is now top of my list. We asked if we can order from lunch menu and because they have such an awesome waitress and kitchen staff they made an exception for us new comers. Fantastic customer service! This is a tricky place to review, because I think the food and service here is pretty good, but I have a strong moral objection to establishments that mislead and steal from customers by adding unexplained and unadvertised fees on the final check. For that reason, I strongly recommend against going to Papi Gordo's, which adds a 3% "technical fee" on each check. If you're okay with restaurants pick pocketing you with fees that are neither disclosed or explained, Papi Gordo's has a solid selection of burritos and tacos as well as a decent happy hour and good service. Me and my friends stopped here for brunch on Saturday morning. The best part was that there was no wait time. And I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the brunch birria tacos. When you purchase a brunch entree it comes with a deal of a $20 champagne bottle which is a steal. I really want to love papi gordos. For real (people ask if I'm an investor jokingly bc I talk about your restaurant ALLLL the time. lol) ..BUT. Ya'll slippin a bit. First visit was great and now it's a hit or miss. The food is usually AWESOME. I highly recommend trying the fajitas/Caesar salad/tacos. I've noticed not everything that's listed on the menu is on the dish and it comes out different every time. I've always paid with their hand held device thing so I don't think I've ever seen a receipt.....I got a physical bill on my last visit and noticed a 20% large party grat added to the bill (there were 3 of us).
