My friend and I had a craving for queso. She told me she always drove past this place and wanted to finally try it so we came for happy hour. The queso and the chips that come with it, absolutely slapped! My goodness I wanted to drink it right out of the bowl; I had to control myself. I will say you get complimentary chips and salsa but the chips are different. Our server also informed us of a hotter salsa that she brought for us and it was incredible. I ordered a house margarita, and some chicken flauta's as well since I really did come for the queso. Everything tasted wonderful. Honestly, I hate to say this because it's been in the valley for so long but I wasn't impressed it I was hoping I would love it. First, my steak was over cooked and kind of dry. It was remade but it lacked flavor quite a bit. The best part of my dish was the rice and beans. Unfortunately, I had to add a decent amount of pepper and salt to try and make the meat right. You know I love steak. Found this awesome place after a fun trip downtown. We got there five minutes before they opened on a Sunday. People were already waiting at the door to go in. The entrance is in the back and has a very pretty Spanish style garden theme. We had great seats inside. The space is just the right size but they also have outdoor seating. Loved the decor, the atmosphere and the food, of course! The server was so nice and helpful. Asked a few questions and I was sold on the steak fajitas. They are covered in a super yummy sauce. Not dry at all. The veggies underneath were perfectly cooked. Large portions. I had to take some home. Everything tasted amazing. By the time we finished our meal, the place was packed and more customers were waiting for tables. We will definitely make the drive out here for those fajitas!!!! read more

Definitely has become one of our go to spots. I can't get enough of the machaca and eggs. Most plates are around $12 to $15 bucks. The portions are big. Chips are good. Salsa is great. Service has been spot on every time. Burrito is big and the nachos were excellent. We haven't tried much else because we are stuck in favorites but I have watched other dishes and they are plentiful. Only con is Sunday there is no drink specials and the drink prices are stiff. We liked the blood orange margarita but for $10 bucks we only had one. We go for the food. Ok so I'm half Mexican and Italian; I'm super picky with food and I expect and will pay for the best of the best. The food here is what I call American Mexican food but no matter how it's labeled it is absolutely phenomenal as well as the service. This is the best of the best I found finally! There our other places that I can boast on for carnitas,buche or menudo but for a good American Mexican dinner you won't find another better place. Ever had an experience where a restaurant puts out great food and then completely blows it with customer service? That is what we just experienced. We have two young kids who love the kids taco meal whenever we take them to the restaurant. After a long day of softball, we didn't feel like dealing with Saturday crowds so we _tried_ to order takeout. The online menu says the kids taco meals are available, but when we tried to order them, we're told you can't order kids meals for pickup and they try to up-sell us to two combination plates. Sure you can run your business however you wish, but bottom line is, the four adult meals you would have sold along with those kids meals can go down as revenue you lost because of your short-sightedness. We'll need to think about whether or not you lose customers too. read more

The food has been consistently great, and the service has always been like family, very friendly and attentive. I have brought many out-of-town friends and relatives here over the years, and the next time in town, they always want to go back. HOLY CRAP! I think those words left my mouth about 10 times last night. Holy crap to the copa de oro (frozen margarita specialty) with a grand mariner float. Holy crap to the hot salsa which was burning a whole in my tongue, and it was worth it. Holy crap to the biggest portions of food I've seen in awhile. Holy crap to the amazing flavor of everything we ate (which was way too much). Holy crap, I am so excited for the leftovers in my fridge. I haven't experienced Mexican food this flavorful in a loooong while. And I will give ALL of my money to any establishment that knows how to make a good frozen margarita, and they were not stingy with the grand marnier float either. We ordered the Yucatán which was a deep fried burrito with beef or chicken that is topped with their special spinach con queso sauce, rice and beans on the side, and your choice of sour cream or jalapeño cream cheese sauce. 100% go with the cream cheese. I also regrettably ordered the piñata platter appetizer which was a meal for 2 all on its own. It came with mini chimis, flautas, green chile corn tamales, fiesta bean dip and generous amounts of guac and more jalapeño cream cheese sauce. It was a ridiculous amount of food for the two of us, and I am not a to go/left over kind of person but it would have been a crime to leave this food behind. I come to La Piñata about twice a year as I live in San Diego and travel for my son's baseball tournaments or to visit family. If I lived in Phoenix it would be my regular spot! Owners and staff are very friendly. Service is great but best of all the food is phenomenal and flavorful. Their enchiladas and tamales have a very unique flavor that I can't find anywhere else.
