Famous and longevity normally indicate a superstar so maybe I was there on a bad day. I tried the chargrilled chicken quesadilla. The service was okay, fairly quick but no interaction our conversation with the server. The quesadilla was very large both in diameter and thickness, so much so I could not finish it. The chicken inside was very good. Cooked just right with grill flavor throughout. The parts I did not like was the cheddar cheese use instead of the standard quesadilla cheeses. You can tell by the melt and flavor something was not right. In addition, the tortilla was grilled too long becoming dry and hard on the edges combined with a slight taste of burnt tortilla. The salsa served with a small amount of chips was not one of my favorites. I had the impression this was a place holding onto it's legacy. There are many places I will try before coming back here. One star off for the food and one off for the service. read more

My husband and I love La Piñata! We were even there twice this week. Whether you are sitting at the bar or at a table, you will receive great service! When we sat outside, our server was energetic and attentive. The drinks and food came out quickly and were delicious. When we sat at the bar, the chips and salsa were served promptly and so were our drinks. If you like margaritas, I highly recommend the margarita made fresh and upgrade the tequila to Hornitos. Oh my gosh, so good! For food, we ordered a kids meal which was a great size and price. I ordered the Salad Carbon with grilled chicken. That jalapeño ranch is delightful too! My husband ordered the Tacos Del Mar and was very satisfied. Also, one of my favorite things about La Piñata is their decor. The little piñata that serves as their mascot is just the cutest. I'm saddened that I've lived in the PHX metro area for decades and only now visited this little gem. Don't let the exterior fool you, inside awaits great food, service, and plenty of seating. My wife and I went for the Pinata Chimi, one steak, one chicken both were excellent and we had the leftovers for dinner, they were huge. The salsa was feash and tasty but not the burner of our other goto for great food. If you are in the area and want some great Mexican food in a nice atmosphere with friendly service, don't hesitate. I have been here a total of 3 times for lunch and they have never disappointed. They are quick to seat you and once the food comes out it is piping hot and delicious! We came here with a big group one time and they sat us out on the patio and even did separate checks for everyone. I would say that it is more Mexican-American food than traditional Mexican but that's okay by me because I enjoy it and it tastes great! True Mexican here. I wanted to love this place as we're new to area... but unfortunately, I was disappointed in most of the food. The salsa was VERY BLAND & tasted like Pace Picante sauce. The guacamole did not taste fresh at all, beans tasted burnt & some of the rice wasn't cooked all the way. The ambiance is a C- at best; definitely needs a makeover inside. I love this place! I typically get the mini chicken chimi's with a side of their jalapeño cream cheese. The jalapeño cream cheese is SO good. I also really like the tio poncho pollo con queso. The queso sauce that is drizzled on top is one of a kind. It's a popular joint so if you're going for dinner on a weekend there will probably be a wait but it's well worth it!!! I really hate to write a bad review about a small business but last night our food was awful. I used to sit at home and just dream about your tacos. I live only a block away from you and when my food was delivered to me it was cold no taste bland and tasted flat out awful. My wife just threw her dinner in the trash and wouldn't even try it. I ate my tacos and that was a big mistake. I spend an hour and a half in the bathroom and one time I couldn't make it to the bathroom so you can figure out on your own what happened there very embarrassing. La Piñata was a new spot for me after numerous times driving past it. I had the Mexican short stack with the shredded beef and it was suprisingly good. The corn tortillas were layered with the beef, it was topped with melted cheese. I did order the egg on too but the meal lacked it. The refried beans and rice were great compliments to the meal. Just left this place and we are sold!!! We ordered the nachos supreme appetizer which is a meal in of itself. My daughter ordered the mahi mahi fajitas which were to die for. The fish was spiced and grilled to perfection. My husband ordered the chicken chimichangas and it was so stuffed that he (who's got a huge appetite) wasn't able to finish. The food was plentiful and absolutely delicious!! Now, our waiter... on point! Before we reached the bottom of our drinks, our glasses were filled. The other day i sampled a prospective new menu item, a shrimp cocktail. Boy was it terrific. Not a traditional style rather more reminiscent of Mexico. One of our favorite Mexican restaurants. The food is ample and hot and always delicious. The drinks are cold and reasonably priced. The service is polite and respectful and outstanding. This restaurant has been in business over 50 years and has the best tamales. The salsa is to die for and the chips keep coming. Order the guacamole and warm chips appetizer. I get the number 8 combination plate which gives me a taco, a tamale, a cheese enchilada. Comes with beans and rice. A nice combo meal to sample three flavors at once. Were greeted warmly and thanked for coming every time. It's a 40 minute drive for us, but it's so worth it. I don't think they take reservations tho. Happy hour 3-6 and taco Tuesdays for $2,50 per will dazzle your plate and impress your guests I've been a customer for atleast five years and try to visit every other month. A party of six had dinner last night at La Piñata. The table was perfect the atmosphere was perfect the food was amazing. Our waitress Leticia was excellent. We had shredded beef tacos shredded beef burritos ,red chili burritos and a Mexican steak salad.. all were so delicious.. Their flour crispy tortillas with home made Guacamole was the best .. And my god the desserts were to dye for, Flan, Sopapillas with honey and fried ice cream mmmmm good The owner was most gracious and we can't thank you enough for making our evening fabulous.. The food has always been good, but since the move to 7th Ave & Missouri, they have revamped the menu and created a much nicer, more modern and open layout. The food continues to be exemplary! I went to La Pinata when it originally opened but I didn't remember the food and service being so outstanding. Nestled away in the the eclectic Melrose area. La Pinata really stands out. The decor is modern with a neutral pallete, but they still have traditional Mexican flare sprinkled in to add some culture. Like the three Dia Dos Los Muertos musicians pictured. The bartender was incredibly friendly. She kept checking in on us, and was always at hand for refills. I also think it was a nice touch when she brought plastic ramekins for our to go food. The margaritas she served were great. They weren't too sweet. You could taste the tequila and skip the heartburn. She also made us beer backs since we like to create our own Beer-rita. The food was awesome! Their salsa is chunky, and has just the right amount of kick to it. If you need more heat they also have the hot stuff on deck. The shredded chicken in my enchilada and taco was tender and juicy. The enchilada also had green chiles and salsa that made my mouth sing. I'm so over one ingredient enchiladas. The beans were rich and creamy, and the taco was packed with flavorful toppings. Loved every bite! read more
