As a native Texan, I must say I haven't been able to find a Mexican restaurant in Phoenix that comes close to the "Tex Mex" style of back home, until now! This place is absolutely delicious and has the quality, portion size, and flavor I've grown to love back home. One of the best things about this place, in my opinion, is there is generally never more than a 15 minute wait given the ample space and seating of the restaurant. The staff is also highly attentive and very friendly. Once you are seated, prepare to devour some seriously delicious salsa. Pro tip: don't eat too much of the salsa as the portions here are very generous. As far as the food goes, I always end up getting the fajitas as they are crazy delicious. They also seem to always be perfectly cooked. Never over done! I highly recommend them. Drink selection is pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant. I've had several of their margaritas and they are generally quite tasty without being ruined with too much sugar. All in all, if you want some delicious and hearty Mexican food at an affordable price, this is pretty much my go to in the area. Definitely try it out! Your tummy will thank you :). read more

They have actual vegan options now! Took our vegan family for a wonderful meal recently! Thank you! Leticia was so helpful!

We love this place so much! Family owned for decades, frosty margaritas and incredibly good Mexican food. Service is great and the acoustics are pretty good for as busy as they are. Lights are softly dimmed but not too much. We'll go back ... read more

Great food here. Being from L.A hard to find good food here. Had the chimichanga and co worker had the taco salad.

Love the atmosphere. I usually don't order margaritas when I go out but I had to try the Hawaiian Margarita and I'm glad I did, it was awesome! I also had the tacos. I liked the ground beef over the chicken one. Guacamole was good as well. I will definitely go back! read more

My mum and I come here like all the time and as soon as I get my food I always forget to take a picture cause I just dive in haha. Let me tell you, la Piñata SMACKS! I've ordered many different plates from here, nachos are HUGE & bomb, their burritos are delicious and this chimichanga that I had was soooo good that my mom ended up taking it (from me) to go! The service is wonderful too, we're always greeted when we come in especially with wearing a mask (which says a lot). If you haven't been here and are in the area (or not) come through. Trust me. read more

The food is always amazing! The staff of efficient and always willing to reckoned something new. This is must have for me at least every couple of weeks. The best Mexican food in Phoenix that I have found. read more

Great sentimental favorite that does Mexican food the way I like it! They invented the chimichanga...wow!

We randomly popped in here on our way to Sedona. Must try! Very friendly service The Paloma was perfectly done. I got the lunch black bean toastada and it was super fresh and delicious! read more

They have the Best "Mary Lou" for happy hour here.... You can get it in either red chili or green chili but I highly recommend the red chili as my favorite! ..it is described as a folded quesadilla with red chili inside of it! Damn, my mouth is already watering for another just talking about it! read more

So I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with white onion. I went to pick it up and they actually charged me a dollar for onions! I was charged almost $10 for a bean and cheese burrito. The tortilla was stale and the onions were in huge pierces that I ended up having to take out. It's ridiculous that a bean burrito cost 10.00 and this one definitely wasn't worth it! read more

Food was ok, typical Mexican food but I'm not a huge fan of eating high calorie meals loaded with cheese. Lots of it so you better be hungry. Service was very good. read more

Always excellent and consistent!! 5 star all the way. I have been getting the same entree for years - shredded beef taco, cheese enchilada and rice (no beans). I moved 40 min away from the restaurant and still travel to have my favorites. Don't forget to ask for the hot sauce when they serve the chips and salsa!! Trust me, you will love it. ;) read more

We have driven by this place a few times while in the area and never stopped in because we are Mexican food snobs. Decided to give it a try tonight and was NOT disappointed! Service at the bar was EXCELLENT! Food was FANTASTIC! Being from New Mexico, the chile usually disappoints me at most places. The flavor was excellent! Not super spicy, but great flavor. Will definitely be back! read more

Great service and food for the value! I usually order the flauta dinner and the amount of guacamole it comes with is a generous size. Delicious! This is the place to go when you have a craving for Mexican food. The wait can be long at times but not unbearable. Highly recommend! read more

Delicious! The chips were so crisp and the salsa the perfect temperature. Great service and food overall, highly recommend!

My husband and I love La Piñata! We were even there twice this week. Whether you are sitting at the bar or at a table, you will receive great service! When we sat outside, our server was energetic and attentive. The drinks and food came out quickly and were delicious. When we sat at the bar, the chips and salsa were served promptly and so were our drinks. If you like margaritas, I highly recommend the margarita made fresh and upgrade the tequila to Hornitos. Oh my gosh, so good! For food, we ordered a kids meal which was a great size and price. I ordered the Salad Carbon with grilled chicken. That jalapeño ranch is delightful too! My husband ordered the Tacos Del Mar and was very satisfied. Also, one of my favorite things about La Piñata is their decor. The little piñata that serves as their mascot is just the cutest. Also, no matter where you sit you will be comfortable. Check this place out, it's pretty awesome! read more

Amazing service. Our waitress was very helpful with recommendations and explanations. Food was served quickly but we were not rushed. The margarita was delicious as was the red chili. We shared an order of sopapilla and it was plenty for 6 people. read more

This used to be a great mexican restaurant when they were at old location but after they moved it is now terrible

I have been here a total of 3 times for lunch and they have never disappointed. They are quick to seat you and once the food comes out it is piping hot and delicious! We came here with a big group one time and they sat us out on the patio and even did separate checks for everyone. I would say that it is more Mexican-American food than traditional Mexican but that's okay by me because I enjoy it and it tastes great! Service is good and I always have leftovers to take with me! read more

Famous and longevity normally indicate a superstar so maybe I was there on a bad day. I tried the chargrilled chicken quesadilla. The service was okay, fairly quick but no interaction our conversation with the server. The quesadilla was very large both in diameter and thickness, so much so I could not finish it. The chicken inside was very good. Cooked just right with grill flavor throughout. The parts I did not like was the cheddar cheese use instead of the standard quesadilla cheeses. You can tell by the melt and flavor something was not right. In addition, the tortilla was grilled too long becoming dry and hard on the edges combined with a slight taste of burnt tortilla. The salsa served with a small amount of chips was not one of my favorites. I had the impression this was a place holding onto it's legacy. There are many places I will try before coming back here. One star off for the food and one off for the service. read more

One of the best in town and hands down best hard-shell tacos! We come here all the time for the service and bomb salsa! Best flavor hands down. read more

Classic style Mexican food done nicely! Yummy crispy cheese crisp with a limey margarita will will win my heart any day of the week! I lunch here this week and the food was wonderful. The item I ordered from the menu was there's a taco in my burrito. I had them covered in green enchilada sauce and cheese. Filled with chicken and other yummy things. I think it was eight dollars. read more

I love this place! I typically get the mini chicken chimi's with a side of their jalapeño cream cheese. The jalapeño cream cheese is SO good. I also really like the tio poncho pollo con queso. The queso sauce that is drizzled on top is one of a kind. It's a popular joint so if you're going for dinner on a weekend there will probably be a wait but it's well worth it!!! Also they have a killer happy hour... $5 margs! read more

I really hate to write a bad review about a small business but last night our food was awful. I used to sit at home and just dream about your tacos. I live only a block away from you and when my food was delivered to me it was cold no taste bland and tasted flat out awful. My wife just threw her dinner in the trash and wouldn't even try it. I ate my tacos and that was a big mistake. I spend an hour and a half in the bathroom and one time I couldn't make it to the bathroom so you can figure out on your own what happened there very embarrassing. So my dream went from a good dream to a nightmare. read more

Mediocre Mexican food at best. Go to Mi Patio down the road instead. La Piñata is a cute place to grab drinks on the patio but that's about it. Very rude bartender while we were waiting on our table and is the reason why I'll never return. Unfortunately we had been waiting for our table for around 20 minutes so didn't want to walk out...even after they skipped seating us by mistake. It was a very busy night so I can see how that might happen. After being seated the server was very sweet and was the highlight of our visit! The food was bland and not authentic once so ever. Not worth the wait or money. If you want authentic Mexican food and great service, go to Mi Patio right down the road. You won't regret it! Love this place. Great food, great margaritas and great service. Excellent Authentic Mexican food.

I'm saddened that I've lived in the PHX metro area for decades and only now visited this little gem. Don't let the exterior fool you, inside awaits great food, service, and plenty of seating. My wife and I went for the Pinata Chimi, one steak, one chicken both were excellent and we had the leftovers for dinner, they were huge. The salsa was feash and tasty but not the burner of our other goto for great food. If you are in the area and want some great Mexican food in a nice atmosphere with friendly service, don't hesitate. I wish we found this spot decades ago, being thats how long they've been around and you only get that kind of longevity with consistency and great food. read more

Been dining at La Pinata several times a year going back to the days when they were located over on 19th Ave. Always order margaritas with our meal... usually the Cadillac Margarita. So i know what one is supposed to taste like. Yesterday's margaritas tasted like watered down lime juice with simple syrup. Not a hint of Grand Marnier and very little tequila. read more

What a cute amazing place! It's not only beautiful, but the food was spectacular! It was our first time here so not sure if they had just redone the whole place but it's like a contemporary beautiful designer restaurant! You can also bring your dog outside in the cute patio space . The food matches the ambiance! 20 out of 10! read more

My favorite go to for a yummy Mex Fix is La Pinata ! La Pinata makes my "boring" go to dish so well!! Love my bean burrito w/ enchilada sauce and cheese baked extra long so everything is melted and warm inside. Oh so great! read more

La Piñata was a new spot for me after numerous times driving past it. I had the Mexican short stack with the shredded beef and it was suprisingly good. The corn tortillas were layered with the beef, it was topped with melted cheese. I did order the egg on too but the meal lacked it. The refried beans and rice were great compliments to the meal. We finished it off with the sopapila w/honey. They came out fluffy and airy. read more

Still love this place, but never order pickup unless you want them to mess up your order. So far, they are at 50% accuracy from 4 orders. Not the best when you live 10 miles away and you get home to the wrong food. read more

True Mexican here. I wanted to love this place as we're new to area... but unfortunately, I was disappointed in most of the food. The salsa was VERY BLAND & tasted like Pace Picante sauce. The guacamole did not taste fresh at all, beans tasted burnt & some of the rice wasn't cooked all the way. The ambiance is a C- at best; definitely needs a makeover inside. Just felt very old & not an authentic Mexican place. We most likely won't be back :( On a positive note, our server was very good! read more
