La Madeleine has become a depressing restaurant in comparison to its former self. The food has a tendency to be overcooked, especially the quiches. The pastry selection has steadily decreased over the years. I believe they may need to work on employee/management training to increase quality control. On three separate occasions I received quiches that were visually burnt. I hope this La Madeleine can rise up from this low point in the future. Convenient location and the décor is cute! Very French country feel to the restaurant! I ordered a to-go Café Sampler, which includes one hot item and two soups or salads. For my hot item, I chose the Quiche Lorraine, and for my sides I got French Onion Soup and their Seasonal Spinach Salad, which is the Strawberry Spinach Bacon Salade. The soup was a 4 out of 10. Although their French Onion Soup has a rich, robust broth and has the perfect amount of onions, it's very salty - and I'm saying this as a person who loves salty foods! Then there is the problem with the cheese and croutons. They come separately, so it's a DIY soup. But they give you the chintziest amount of cheese! I mean a teeny tiny small amount! I understand croutons are obviously dried bread, but they were hard as rocks! The garlicky flavor was nice, but if one has braces or had dental work done, they should be hesitant to bite into one of these! The quiche was very flavorful! The crust was falling off the portion they gave me, so it does not make for a nice picture. But I did enjoy the savory richness. I give it an 8 out of 10. The salad was also very good! I liked the combination of strawberries, spinach, pecans, and feta cheese. It went nicely with their French vinaigrette. The only problem I have with it is the amount of French vinaigrette they gave me. Again, the chintziest cup! I poured it on the salad, replaced the lid and shook it up. Most of the spinach leaves were not blessed with the dressing, no matter how much I shook it up! There was simply not enough there. Due to the lack of dressing, I give it a 6 out of 10. Too bad because the dressing is quite tasty! Overall, I give La Madeleine a 6/10 o(3 out of 5 stars). My improvements would be cut back on the amount of salt in the French Onion Soup, give way more cheese for the takeout orders (perhaps the cheese would balance the saltiness and it wouldn't be so overwhelming!), and give more dressing for the to-go salads. read more

While I like that they now offer pay ahead and pick up service, the quality of the in-person service experience has lessened through the years. Most recently, my family went in for breakfast. While waiting for their arrival, I saw the young lady at the take out counter interact with a customer and advised she could make the order for dine-in even though it was at the take out counter. I asked if we could order there as well and she sent us to the line. I am not sure why we were treated differently. I mentioned it, but did not expect a response. On the day we went, I observed the display case where they used to show quiches and other dishes were empty. I don't know if that's a Covid thing or what, but there was nothing there. The people ahead of us ordered right at the start of the line. When we were approached about what we wanted, we got some fruit, but then when we put our other order in, the staff member first took some other customer's salad orders and made those and then walked to the register and said, "I'm all the way down here" after initially asking for our order further up the line. My parents are elderly, and honestly, I feel like this comment was rude when he first asked for the order elsewhere... like it was their fault they weren't ordering wherever he deemed they should. Not quality customer service. The food was quick to come out, and it was very good - by far the best I have had there. Being a quiet morning, we were not rushing to get out. While I appreciate the tables being cleared and all, I can do without an arm going across my face to reach over and grab my parent's plate who had just picked up his last bite of food from his plate. La Madeline will not be on the top of my list any time soon, but for convenience and going to a place I usually know there will be an open seat, it will remain a choice. I just wish their staff would understand they are not in charge of me and should be clear when providing uniform service. I got food delivered from here, and it all tasted good as I remember from this chain, but the portions were way smaller. Over the years I've seen them shrink portions (like the smaller "large" lemon tart they changed like 6 years ago.... Never forget....) but I was pretty surprised by the takeout portions. When I used to order pasta in person, they would fill up a pretty big plate. The amount I got today was somewhere in between a side and regular portion. It looks like the container was made to hold an entree amount, but they didn't fill it up. It was tasty though. My iced coffee tasted ok, the bread and tart were good. The side salad had literally the smallest amount of dressing I've ever seen accompany a salad. It was enough for like two bites. I placed my order via the website, and upon arrival to the restaurant, parked in a curbside pickup spot, and proceeded to call the number listed on the sign. Once calling the number, the team member, REECE, responded, "Oh, we don't offer curbside pickup." To which I responded, "Y'all should take those signs down," as this is very misleading for customers. She did not respond, but abruptly ended the call, hanging up on me. Once walking in the store, I was met with a smug stare, and not greeted. I brought to REECE'S attention how poor her customer service was, and that her behavior was not acceptable. She then begin to scream, yell, and berate my boyfriend and I in the restaurant. Another team member came from the back and tried to get her to be quiet, but she kept going. Yelling, screaming, and completely unprofessional. I almost always get the chicken Caesar salad. It was still delicious but definitely not the value that it used to be. For the most part the service was good in terms of customer care but the line was ridiculously slow. Although there were a lot of employees working it was not very organized. For years I have loved the soups at La Madeleine's as well as the patisserie. The Provençal vegetable soup is my new favorite. The soup is full of veggies and always taste fresh and not overly salty. La Mads is a staple lunch or early dinner spot for me and the food is always good. The consistency and quality have remained over the years. Sad experience! As a business owner, I know how important is a great customer service for every single person that comes into the business. Today, we experience an unknowledgeable staffing , a lack of customer service with us as per the simple details of having silverware available for customers. One of the item's we order was scramble egg which it was dry and wrongly made. We request an exchange for over easy eggs and after many faces and the employees goofing when they were making them , we never receive it. I requested a refund and the person in charge instead of apologizing for the inconvenience said things to the cashier, had a wrongly attitude and was very unprofessional. These are the little things we should watch out being in a tourist area. Hope you can train better your employees for a better customer service for the future. read more

I was so disappointed with my visit at the Jefferson location today. There was a new employee on the salad station in the middle of lunch. She was sweet, but not yet trained and really struggling. She asked several other employees questions and for help and they would utter one word answers and leave. There were at least 6 employees in view and only 2-3 were working a station. Others were drinking on the line and talking. While I was waiting for my salad a roach crawled onto my tray. This was extremely disturbing. I know restaurants have bugs, but you don't normally see them brave enough to venture into the open onto trays in the middle of lunch. The employee remade my food, but still got no help from her coworkers. The manager was alerted about the roach and simply walks to the trays. Looked behind them and walked away. There was a large group behind me that saw the roach on my tray and saw me kill it. After my food was remade I wasn't thrilled to eat it, but I was meeting a colleague and had no other choices. We sat down and half of my salad was the just the stump of the romaine lettuce and the rest was very brown. I just gave up and ate my fruit. Overall the experience was a terrible one. I had similar service experiences here in the last couple of months but wanted to give them another try with the knowledge that it's hard to get help! This situation is beyond staffing. Roaches and employees not assisting their coworkers and other customers is just too far. I won't be back again. Ran by here yesterday because my husband loves the fruit tart and since it was his birthday I figured what a great compliment to his dinner since we're watching what wee eat and done with most sweets for the new year. They greeted me immediately with smiles and "welcome to la Madeline' s, how can we help you ? " I love that ! Customer service, awesome ! They're always so polite and courteous. They grabbed me a fresh fruit tart from the back. When I got it home I always immediately place it into the refrigerator. After dinner I decided to take it out and let it thaw a bit. After about 20 mins or so we sang happy birthday and I cut into it and it was fresh and creamy with that yummy lightly sweetened crust ! I love La Madeline normally and have eaten there for most of my life without issue but the last couple of times the quality of the food is just not up to par. The food isn't terribly expensive but the portions have gotten smaller and they have changed some of their classic recipes. The price is no longer worth the product. This salad tasted so bad! The chicken has an awful flavor and weird texture. The dressing isn't the same as it once was and for over $11 with tax and tip, it was not even sort of worth it. It's disappointing. My to-go experience today was fine and the salad was prepared quickly but after taking the first bite I knew the decision to treat myself to lunch out at La Madeleine was a mistake. I used to eat at this location all the time. Today I picked up dinner for my family for the first time in a while from this location. We had a number of problems. The first was that my 15-20 minute wait turned into 50 even though there was maybe one other customer when I got there. I ordered the chicken La madeleine, which I used to always get. This time, the serving size for the entree was about 1/4 the size as it used to be (see photo). It was also cold and tasted about half as good as it used to. This was a full price dinner combo. They also failed to sub the broccoli for mashed potatoes. My wife's potato soup was also not good, and it used to be very good. It looks like most of the recent reviews agree, one-star. I have never written a review before, despite completely being at the point of not supporting certain businesses anymore. However la madeleines has changed that. Rude service, overcharged, (don't think a refund was actually issued either) (edit to add: I was refunded) and the worst food I have actually ever received from a restaurant. The strawberry Nutella crepe was purely goo, there was no crepe, just custard and strawberries, like it was to be eaten with a spoon. The crepe la madeleine was the worst thing I have ever received from a restaurant in my life. Not a component in it I would not love, yet at a second bite, spit out and could not finish. My husband (who will eat nearly anything) also said it was disgusting and should be thrown away. The quiche florentine for being an egg custard pie was so flavorless it somehow even removed the actual flavor of eggs. The mushroom soup was not completely revolting but again lacked any flavor whatsoever and was also not eaten, it is simply small chunks in wet hot liquid. The only thing I actually expected and hoped to be good after trying anything else was the potato galette, which was completely black on the bottom and burnt to a point of not being able to taste the food itself. The one and only edible thing I tried out of a decent order was the three pieces of bacon ordered as a side for far too much money considering everything else purchased was a waste. A horrible experience that initially began as a very excited trip, even when the last visit was riddled with roaches around the outside table we sat at. As someone who grew up eating here I don't see myself ever returning and I will advise those around me to not waste a visit. read more

Certain food like Shrimp Crepe Florentine is made to order. The bakery/cafe that sit in the front caters to the java junkies and the sweet addicts. THE GOOD: Bottled Water and Tomato Basil soup THE BAD: 1. Chicken Friand - Puff pastry filled with chicken bits, mushroom, and bechamel sauce, topped with mushroom sauce ( but you have to ask them or else they'll look at you and say, "Can I help you?" Why yes, where's the nearest EXIT you IDIOT!) The taste? Well, if it's already been cooked and sitting there looking pretty, you can pretty much picture what it's going to taste like. My "Hot Pocket" (seriously? yeah I should be ashamed of myself) taste better than that work of art. 2. Potato Galette - French version of hash browns. Give me Louie's Cafe cajun hash browns anytime of the day. They could have added a little bit of Tony Chachere seasoning to give it some taste. 3. Shrimp Crepe Florentine - Looks good, sounds Frenchy, but sure as hell didn't taste any better than the crepe I had from a food truck. 4. Strawberry Cake - I pretty much paid just to look at it 'cause the taste of it really didn't justify why I bought it. I like LA Madeleine. The big negative for me is, almost everyone I visit has a WiFi system that will never connect to my laptops. I travel for work and this happens in locations all across the south and with different laptops. Food is usually great, good spot for business meetings, but the wifi isn't worth a lick.
