We know now! Folks are friendly and knowledgeable and make wonderful coffees and delicious food. We went twice in a week (long story) and got cookies the first day and breakfast the second. It's the kind of place you'd hang out longer if you had time, although we didn't. Next time. And let me tell you, the cookies we had were the best we'd ever had. Big, soft, loaded with chocolate and macadamia and coconut for a magic combination we've never had anywhere else. It's almost a full meal. We're not local to Denham Springs, but visit occasionally. I ordered the ham, egg, and Swiss croissant, a chocolate chip cookie, and a latte. My only complaint is that I wish the coffee and sandwich had been served hotter. Still, the warm atmosphere more than made up for it. There are plenty of cozy seating areas both inside and outside that make you want to just sit and stay.

I'm a critic of Poboy bread, but this one I love. I don't bother to get fries, but since these are included (and quite yummy), I gobble them up too! I hope to try the breakfast menu one day but haven't found myself in the area at that time yet. As far as I can tell, Cafe Jeanpierre is a one woman show! Again, I've only been there twice, but both times it's just the owner. She's quick to get the orders made and polite. No small talk, but that's perfectly okay. She also has lots of plants she tends to in the window that I love to admire. I first heard about this cafe several years ago in the news, so I'm glad I've finally doin it and been able to appreciate the awesome reputation. It's located in a strip mall on a major road, so make sure to GPS it to not miss it! I definitely recommend supporting this local biz; trust me, your tastebuds will thank you!

I ordered the ropa vieja, and it reminded me of a really well-made pot roast that's been braised until it's fall-apart tender. It paired perfectly with the rice and beans. What impressed me the most wasn't actually the beef, it was the congrí. I honestly expected the rice and beans to be more of a filler side, but they were packed with flavor and were enjoyable all on their own. To me, that's the sign of a kitchen that pays attention to every component on the plate instead of focusing only on the main entrée. That's something I really appreciate. A great meal isn't just about one standout item. Every component should be seasoned and prepared with the same level of care, and Elisa's does exactly that. The food isn't trying to reinvent Cuban cuisine or impress you with flashy presentation. They're simply focused on making authentic, delicious food consistently, and it shows. The interior was beautiful, the portions were satisfying, the prices were reasonable, and the service was excellent. There are several other dishes I already want to come back and try, which says a lot after just one visit. If they continue serving food with this level of consistency, Elisa's will definitely become a regular stop for us.
