This tiny restaurant is located in the back of a home decor shop. The unusual gallery-as-a-dining-space atmosphere is lit to showcase the local paintings. Unfortunately this provides terrible lighting for dining, as there's always a light in your eyes no matter where you sit. The dining space is windowless and a bit claustrophobic. Not my favorite but might not bother someone else. The food is fine - my salad was fresh and tasty. The cake under glass next to the register looked divine. Good iced tea and unsweet peach tea. The cut lemons on the serve-yourself drink station looked wilted and unappetizing but the station was otherwise stocked and tidy. I don't want to sound too harsh. I had a nice meal here with my mom and I'd eat here again. However, I will never again order the sensation salad dressing. Despite the claims of their menu, they don't actually serve sensation dressing but they inexplicably call some other dressing by the same name. Very off-putting to this BR native. The fact that they keep this a secret from patrons really gambles with expectations. The chef has changed out enough ingredients to render the dressing unrecognizable by anyone familiar with the traditional Baton Rouge classic. Sensation dressing is a simple, classic local recipe and shouldn't be tampered with. Invented by Chef Jake Staples at The Place in the 1950's, the dressing traditionally consists of a large quantity of lemon juice, plus Romano and bleu cheeses, oil, crushed garlic, a touch of vinegar (frequently omitted) and salt and pepper. It's an amazing dressing with a punchy flavor bite and - crucially - is a rare safe salad dressing for people with vinegar allergy or sensitivity. I don't recognize the sweet, vinegar-based dressing served to me at Heather V's as Sensation. It's so far off the mark I had to flag down a food runner and apologetically ask him to bring me the correct dressing, thinking I had mistakenly been given vinaigrette. I was shocked to learn that no, this vinaigrette IS their sensation dressing. There are reasons we have names for things. Two of those reasons are for recognizability and to build trust. A lapse in trust in an environment where food sensitivities may be triggered seems an odd gamble to this diner. Especially when the error is unforced and the solution is so easy. While it's an okay dressing, it is misnamed, which is a disappointing and strange experience akin to being given honey mustard when you order ranch and then told that that's what they call ranch here. (Imagine the toddler meltdowns alone...) Heather V's has an opportunity here to consider their customers' expectations (and resulting confusion and disappointment when those expectations are foiled) and to simply rename the slightly sweet vinaigrette they're serving under the moniker of another very distinguished, storied, and entirely different dressing. It's a fine vinaigrette and would hold up with a different name. You wouldn't whip up a batch of remoulade and call it Caesar. Don't gaslight us by calling this sweet vinaigrette Sensation! read more

Since this cafe is located inside the Foyer, a very big boutique that sells artwork, jewelry, and other gift worthy products, at first I worried if I stepped into the right place because it was like a maze in there! But eventually I was eventually able to find the counter to order food (which is towards the back of the Foyer). I ordered the GARDEN GOBBLER and GRILLED CHEESE for my little one. The sandwich comes with a bag of chips and I chose a fruit cup for my other order. I love how there's so much veggies as much as the meat in the sandwich. It was delicious! How have I not done a review of my favorite lunch place?! Since moving to BR, lunch at Heather V's have been my greatest hidden gem discovery! I was unsure about getting food here since it's in a shop, but I read so many great yelp reviews and gave it a try. It was a double win since the Foyer is also a fantastic place to get local gifts! Pro tip: while this is a lunch spot, they will also be serving breakfast during the holiday season for the Foyer's extended hours. The first thing I ordered here was a combo lunch, and I was so obsessed with the shack salad that it's now the only thing I order! They have a variety of fresh salads, sandwiches, and a daily soup option. The Shack Salad is a fantastic salad topped with golden raisins, tomatoes, onion, hearts of palm, feta, and tossed in a lemon Parmesan dressing. I suggest adding their chicken and a side of the sensation dressing. I could drink a gallon of the sensation dressing. It's a creamy, garlicky dressing made in house. Don't skip out on the side of garlicky Parmesan bread either! Heather V's is my absolute favorite place to grab a salad in BR. You can also call in an order and pick up carry out. Getting right to it The BEST sensation salad I've had in a long time. For over 50 years I've found NOTHING comparable to the Sensation Salad at Jack Staple's The Place on Florida Blvd. That was in the 1970's and that establishment is no longer with us. Well, Heather V's can take the crown now! The Sensation Salad at Heather V's is just bursting with flavors and textures! This is NOT a boring salad. You will enjoy every last bite! Just the right amount of tasty, crunchy pecans. I don't usually like salads with sweet ingredients, but the golden raisins were just right. And the dressing was just so full and flavorful. Just the right tang, just the right savory. I added grilled chicken to mine and it was added warm and amply! Warm! That made the salad just right. It didn't wilt the lettuce; it just added body. I've also had their Twisted Sister Salad. So many fun ingredients. Always check their specials. One of the things they do best at Heather V's is "create" sandwiches. It's like an "art", the way combinations of meat and cheeses and other surprising ingredients are fitted together. Figs, avocados, havarti cheese...just to name a few. I am definitely adding one of the soups to my lunch next time. Even their beverages are memorable. They have water with fruit added. And a full mango tea. The tea flavor is robust but doesn't overrun the mango. It's really refreshing. Having to sit, waiting for your order and smell the bread baking?!...that's kinda hard! Haha! Then there is The Foyer you walk thru to get to the restaurant. A feast for the eyes, all the art and the crafts and home furnishings. Lesson to know: do not make lunch at Heather V's a quick, grab and dash event. Can't be done. So just surrender to the great idea that dining is supposed to be relaxing pause, enjoyed best at leisure and in sumptuous surroundings. read more

The ultimate "secret garden" of lunch spots! A definite must-try!! Upon entering the Foyer gallery and zig-zagging through this artistic labyrinth to find my way to the rear, I encountered beautiful antiques, paintings, sculptures and furniture to finally arrive where the cafe was located! I immediately knew the food was going to be amazing, when I noticed the line was long and the cafe was filled with many hungry lunch-goers. It was a superb experience from the beginning! The cafe was nestled within all the exciting art work, furnished with rustic and antique-y tables/chairs. Even the bathroom did not look like a bathroom...it was a mini art gallery!! They are only open from 11am - 3pm M-F (closed on Saturdays), so it is the perfect place for lunch! I ordered the Shack Salad: mixed greens, hearts of palm (my favorite part), feta, tomato, cucumber, golden raisins with a zesty lemon parmesan dresing and topped with fresh Romano cheese! The great thing is there is a "small" & "large" option for most of the salads. Thank you for doing that...some do not have big appetite, so the small is a perfect size! Plus, it comes with a piece of garlic toast (a little of that buttery-garlicy goodness won't hurt, right)? After I finished my lunch, I just sat there and took it all in...the beauty of the art pieces and just the feeling of comfort and contentment made me want to stay! The owner of the cafe - Ms Heather V herself was an absolute delight!! You can just see her passion for food come through! I stumbled upon this place located INSIDE a business called "The Foyer" on Perkins near Acadian. I love discovering "hidden treasures" sorts of places and telling other people about them so I thought I'd give it a try, in hopes that this would turn out to be just that sort of thing. In a word: It was. Tucked away in the corner, weaving your way back through little nooks and display areas - you eventually come upon a smallish, unassuming little cafe in the back, right portion of the building. Because it is situated in what I would call an Art Gallery/Home Furnishing kind of store, despite its size it has a simple, stylish, artsy feel with lots of works from various artists adorning the walls - and quite nice works at that! On to the food: I didn't order from the menu but am including pictures of it for the curious. Instead I ordered the two specialty items of the day: a cup of lentil soup with kale, olive oil and Romano cheese and, as an accompaniment, I ordered the Green Onion and Havarti Grilled Cheese. The sandwich came with a choice of packaged chips. Both were very well done, in my opinion. The lentil soup was hearty and tasty without being overly busy. The kale and Romano cheese were a nice addition to what I have typically seen. The sandwich was also nicely done. I would personally have grilled it a bit more with a little butter - but not everyone has my obsession with butter! The green onion and Havarti were generously present, and the flavor was very good and not overstated. Dipping it in the Lentil soup seemed the way to go and it ended up being a nice pairing - which I'm sure they intended. The only thing missing was a Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio! Maybe another time... All in all, a nice little spot and great find, for me. The menu has some other items that I will want to try in the future so looking forward to a return visit. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite lunch spots in Baton Rouge! Not only is the food amazing, but the desserts are made by Nanette Mayhaw! This in and of its self is reason enough to go but the restaurant is hidden away in the back of the Foyer, which means you can shop while you wait (no brainer). One of my favorite things is a turkey sandwich that includes blanched asparagus (you will not regret it). I'm going to venture out and say this is my favorite lunch spot in Baton Rouge. Now, there are a few that are really, really close to being my favorite, but after my last few visit to Heather V's ( I went two days In a row last week!), I'm inclined to give it the lunch crown. I absolutely, love fresh, local, homemade ingredients and dressings and this little gem does a great job with both. It is a it quaint and tricky to find if you aren't familiar. Located in The Foyer on Perkins, it is small, but offers a great dining experience, while you enjoy the beautiful artwork surrounding you. My favorite salad is the shack salad. The lemon Parmesan dressing and hearts of palm make it one of the stars on the menu. However, all of the salads are just as good. I typically go with the pick 2 special for $9.95. Your choice of a soup, salad or sandwich. There are daily features and standard menu items. The chicken havarti is one of my favorite sandwiches. Absolutely delicious. Also a winner is the Italian sandwich, served on muffuletta bread. It is heavenly! There are daily dessert options and infused water for $1. If you have not tried this awesome, lunch spot, you are missing out. The only downside is that they close at 3pm and are not open on weekends. Now, if you are looking for a private, intimate convo, not the spot for you as you will probably bump into a few people you know while there. Otherwise, Love love love this place. We did NOT get amazing service. In fact, the service didn't rate the three stars I'm giving. The food was good (4 stars) but slow in arriving, I guess because its all made to order. It took over 20 mins to get 2 sandwiches? The person who took our order and the person who dropped off our food we're both pretty frosty to us, I even got a dirty look for asking for an extra plate. Very disappointing overall, considering the other good reviews we were expecting something better. Love the location though, highly recommend the Foyer. read more

Not even close to my best cafe experience. My wait time is not my major complaint because everyone waited, but 30 minutes for a to-go order is a tad long for lunch. I think people would complain at a five-star restaurant if they had to wait 30 minutes for their food. Lunchtime at any eating establishment needs to be swift because of the office crowd. The owners obviously need to change up their system. Not everyone (obviously me) is not going to be cool about that long if a wait. Unfortunately for Heather V's, my complaints don't end there. The sandwich I got (which I almost left behind with the slow-moving staff) was not anything to write home about. It wasn't bad and God knows I ate it because after waiting so long my stomach started gnawing on my backbone, but it wasn't that good either.
