Chicken Fried Steak combo w/ Chocolate Pecan Pancakes!
    Dorci B.

I love Louie's! The food was amazing and the portions were large! The chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were seasoned very well. My waiter was very nice and explained how to mix and match my order! The ambience is similar to Dearman's with a classic diner interior.

This is a nice little spot in the LSU area. Real friendly service and my chicken fried steak was perfect.. parking is a challenge on weekends and there's a bit of a wait at times. My 3 star is because being around the college with so much diversity i would have liked them to have a non pork breakfast protein option.. Also, their hash browns are country potatoes not traditional hash browns but are delicious

We were visiting for the weekend and this place popped up as a highly recommendation so we decided to give this place a try. The location is about 10 muns from LSU, parking is not that great however we did find a spot. We arrived and realized that this place was crowded we still opted to wait 30 mins. Once we were seated it took a lil while for our waiter to take our drink order(provided it was extremely busy). We finally ordered and the disadvantage of sitting in the front is seeing your food sitting on the ledge waiting for the server to pick it up, another waiter grabbed it and dropped it off. The potatoes (which they call hashbrowns were seasoned good) the chicken fried steak was okay, I recommend the brown gravy the white gravy taste like Campbell cream of mushroom out the can, and were eggs were decent. The waitress rarely visted our table however it seems she was stuck at another table by us who criticized the food. Overall it was a decent experience.

Louie's is Baton Rouge's premier greasy spoon. I've been going there for almost 20 years, and I've never been disappointed. It's a true culinary relic--and an homage to the hundreds of diners that littered the American landscape in the 60s and 70's.

If you have not eaten here yet it's a must if you are on or near the LSU campus. Every time we eat here it is a pleasant experience. Great food, great employees and great customer service! I ate here plenty of times when I was at LSU and still try to make it by most weekends! 10/10 recommend!

Louie's Cafe is a legendary place in Baton Rouge. They have moved to a little larger location in the same general area, but are almost always very busy. It's a full service breakfast and lunch location, and everything they have is amazing! It's fed generations of LSU students and Baton Rouge natives, and there's a reason it's still in business today. Breakfast is a major attraction here, and they have everything from the classic combos, to amazing omelettes, and waffles and pancakes. They are known especially for their hash-browns, which are made from cubed potatoes with onions and peppers grilled along with them. They can be had as a side dish, or as a main course with a variety of toppings. Another famous breakfast speciality is the biscuits, which are possibly the best in Baton Rouge. These big rich pillows of goodness are fine with butter and jelly, but even better with gravy. However, there are other meals to be had here. They have a wide variety of lunch or brunch options. I like to mix and match, and sometimes have a burger for breakfast with a side of hash-browns. They have your basics and southern specialties. It's hard to go wrong with thier menu. While the food is the star of the show here, the service and staff need to be commended. I always find the waitstaff to be prompt and helpful. But if one really wants to be involved in the action, ask to be seated at the bar by kitchen area and watch the grilling up close. Seems there's always a pile of potatoes being converted into hash-browns, orders being served up, and the hustle and bustle of an active restaurant. It's fun to watch!

Restaurant itself reminded me of an upscale Waffle House with the decor and menu items. But the food itself was way better than a Waffle House. Our waitress was great, forgot her name but she was a young girl probably in college. She did a great job. My omelet was cooked good and the bagel was toasted and came with a side of cream cheese that I enjoyed. The restaurant has these black and white striped curtains along the bottom of the windows that is right next to the table and chairs that we sat at and they were very dirty. Had stains all over them that is why I'm docking a star. Overall, I would go back to get breakfast here again.

Portions | smoothie | chicken and waffle Portions - this place has large portions at a great price. Make sure you bring your appetite for all the meals. Smoothie - I had a mango smoothie with my meal. It was pretty tasty and surprisingly filling. It was large and would definitely recommend. Chicken and Waffles - I had the chicken and waffles for my meal which was massive. We went for brunch and I was full for the rest of the day - no lie. The waffle is standard size but you get three full sized chicken tenders. The seasoning is good but not special. They offer various condiments to put on your meal. Pro tip: they have tons of parking - so no need to add time to your trip.

A little different but the food is still great.

This latest iteration tries to meet the community's needs by having a small selection of grocery/convenience items in addition to prepared food offerings. In regard to the prepared food, it seems there are three stations currently where one can order. These involve sandwiches, pizza, and everything else. I've been a patron of the sandwich counter, and I'm particularly fond the club sandwich and the chicken salad sandwich. These come nicely grilled on a sandwich press, with nice grill marks! My co-workers tell me the burgers are very good, with homemade flavor. The pizzas look nice, but as of yet I have not tried them. I'm glad to see a community-focused business returning to this historic location, and I intend to keep going there and trying the menu!

So we are visiting this area for the weekend and got a recommendation to eat here for breakfast…read more We get there about 9:30 or so and know it will probably be busy. We were not wrong, the line was to the door. The slogans on the walls and everything in the restaurant was neat and well organized. I read the two comments on the chalk board and my expectation for high quality food increased significantly. Sadly, that would be it. Two registers looked available, but only one was working. The guy taking orders seemed new and friendly. Unfortunately, his conversation tended to move away from taking orders and trying to make small talk with the customers. This made waiting in line borderline intolerable, especially with the child behind me jumping up and down on the wall leading to the register (thank goodness one of the parents finally made her stop). Once at the register, it seemed that the guy was new (or newer) and struggled with the orders a little bit. After repeating my order a few times, he got it. We went to the "Jam Bar" for coffee and water. The sweetener was almost out, there was no cream and one urn was out (the lady was prepping the empty urn for new coffee). I commented about the cream, but was completely ignored by the employee. Another employee came up and I asked her about the cream. She pointed at the 4-5 single serve creamers there and said that was it. I asked about the metal pitcher and she said, "Oh yeah, that has some too." I told her it was empty. She looked confused and then picked it up and left. So, I just served old coffee in my cup that I had to go find since no one offered it to me ($3.50/cup, I would have assumed it would be pristine, but not so much and no one seemed concerned). Now to the meal: I ordered the Vicious Benny and Old School Breakfast. The Vicious Benny was mediocre at best. The ham and hollandaise were good, but the biscuit was grainy and the over easy egg was runny and a little slimy. And there wasn't a whole lot of taste to the meal. The OS Breakfast was much better, but still not a lot of flavor. The bacon was pretty good and flavorful. The eggs and potatoes were cooked well, just no seasoning. Overall, such a sad experience. Maybe my expectations were too high based on what I saw and the crowd when I went into the restaurant.

It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.
