We arrived at 8:00 AM on Thursday and was surprised to find this restaurant was nearly empty with only a few locals having coffee and engaged in a conversation at the bar. The friendly staff greeted us and we seated ourselves at a high-top near the front windows, we both ordered their freshly brewed iced tea while browsing the menu. We wanted to eat and run so we both ordered pancakes and I got a side of bacon - the pancakes were just okay and the bacon unfortunately was cold like it could of been sitting for awhile but it is what it is and we were in and out quickly and our server Whitney brought us each a iced tea to go which was very nice. Nothing bad here but also nothing memorable except how empty the place was at breakfast time in an area that was busy. The restaurant is located on the end of a strip mall a little off the beaten path so that may explain it, we probably wouldn't return just based on the food quality...

We know now! Folks are friendly and knowledgeable and make wonderful coffees and delicious food. We went twice in a week (long story) and got cookies the first day and breakfast the second. It's the kind of place you'd hang out longer if you had time, although we didn't. Next time. And let me tell you, the cookies we had were the best we'd ever had. Big, soft, loaded with chocolate and macadamia and coconut for a magic combination we've never had anywhere else. It's almost a full meal. We're not local to Denham Springs, but visit occasionally. I have been here several times and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge for great flavorful food. The food was amazing and great. For an appetizer, I had a dozen of their chargrilled oysters. You can see the smoke and smell them cooking them on the way in. They have this amazing butter sauce packed with tons of flavor and it is served with their French bread to soak up that butter! Some other appetizers we got were their fried eggplant with marinara sauce and their buffalo wings which are so good. For my main entree, I got their blackened shrimp pasta which was seasoned well and came with garlic bread. My twin got their hamburger steak and it was delicious. Some drinks I got for the night were their old fashioned and their Long Island iced tea. The ambiance is nice and perfect for a family outing or to celebrate graduation in my case. This will always be a restaurant I will coming back to. The service was great and Chance was amazing the entire time accommodating our large party! Thanks so much.

I literally lost my appetite after I took a bite of shrimp in their Eggplant Supreme dish. Never in decades of eating out have I had an establishment serve me what I got tonight. The shrimp had a big shrimp on top of the bite that I took, under it were several smaller shrimp, completely dry, stuck together. And they ... crunched. I spit them out, they tasted like dried, week old shrimp. Simply awful. I love a night out for dinner but I literally lost my appetite. The restaurant response was as bad. The waitress took the plate. No apology. Nothing from the kitchen other than, do you want something else? City Cafe must have way too much business to serve a dish like this and not say a word back. I'm not a shrinking violet but damn, a simple sorry might have been nice.

Definitely worth ordering however, not great or anything memorable. Pork Chop - It was accompanied by a sauce and roasted potatoes. The potatoes were average, nothing set them apart from regular roasted potatoes. The sauce was pretty tasty and provided something unique. The pork chop wasn't bad however, not a top 5 or even maybe top 8 pork chop I have ever. Pork Chops are something I order regularly and love to try. Is this place worth trying at least once? Maybe.
