Decided to try Spoke&Hub for brunch last Saturday. I wanted to try the waffle items from the pictures but to my surprise the menu has been revamped and they no longer serve such. At the suggestion of the waitress I tried the Hashbrown Ranchero Chorizo (hash browns, pepperjack queso, 2 eggs, salsa verde) with my eggs medium over easy (I didn't know that was possible) and less just say I enjoy every morsel of this bowl as a first timer! The atmosphere was nice and bubbly with the waitress being attentive but still allow you to enjoy yourself. Now, the drink. It was DELICIOUS. A nice balance of libations with a twist. It was really good Overall, I would come back to try more items.

This is a former Bistro Byronz and the transformation is astonishing. It is cozy, yet simultaneously spacious. It has a bar at one end of the restaurant and a small bakery at the other, The service was top notch. I thought the menu was a tad expensive until I took the first bite of a $21 chicken fried steak dinner. Best CFS I've ever had eaten. Great crust, huge plate filling portion, excellent white cream gravy . And it came with three sides. I opted for green beans, corn and jalapeños and a salad. Again, all excellent. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Can't wait to try all three. It looks like a perfect spot for a relaxing breakfast.

Baton Rouge has a decent number of diners. Of those diners, each has their niche things that keep people coming back. Spoke & Hub doesn't have anything other than a "just ok" vibe for everything - the service is just ok, the food is just ok, the drinks, dessert, etc, etc... it's all "just ok." There's nothing on the menu to win me over for a revisit, especially with all the other restaurant choices down Government Street (restaurants with better parking options, too!)

The food and service were amazing!! The inside was clean and tidy. I can't wait to go back. There were so many items on the menu I want to try. This is now my favorite place to get boudin egg-rolls from. Everything was well cooked and nicely proportioned making for a great egg-roll. All of the other food was super tasty.

This place was very cute ! The service was relaxed and our server Cannon D was friendly and made our table laugh multiple times. The entree was fine, every flavor was as expected. I would definitely come back another time for brunch with a large party.

I've been here several times and I like this place but I have mixed thoughts on the chicken biscuit: the chicken & gravy was great but the biscuit was all hard & not so great. I actually just ended up eating the chicken & gravy. Maybe it's bc I got carryout? I'm not sure but the biscuit was a fail. The cake shakes are AMAZING! If you haven't tried one then your missing out. I've had the Red Velvet one several times and the Carrot Cake one too. They're both incredible! The Nola Nectar is delicious too but I think their cake shake is the best milkshake in town! Whenever I eat here everything is delicious! I love their croffles! The red beans are delicious and so are their fried green tomatoes. The service is always great and everyone is always friendly. I'll definitely keep dining in but I don't think I'll ever order carryout again.

I wanted to love Spoke & Hub but it just wasn't there for me. The inside is so cute and they do have a good menu selection. I just wasn't a fan of what I ordered. I got the Avocado Toast on a Croffle (a croissant toasted in a waffle press). It was just kind of underwhelming. I think that the concept is fun but (in my opinion) most people who are ordering avocado toast are sometimes looking for something on a somewhat healthier side. I think this dish would be better if it was offered on sourdough toast, I would even pay extra for this.

The food was delicious! I had the bacon & cheese smashburger. One son got the kid smashburger which was a good size for my 10 year old and the other son got the breakfast which was also a good size for him. The best part was the service! Heather A was our waitress and she was so personal & very sweet. She interacted with my boys nicely as well. Very cute ambiance. We will definitely coming back. I didn't take any pics of the food though but the hash puppies were delicious!

Food has not been a let down the past 2 times I've ate there. They are great with service too, very attentive and the food has always came to the table correct and hot. While it's a smaller place it's still very much worth dining in and enjoying the decor and vibe. I will definitely visit this restaurant many more times in the future of its business life. Can't wait to go back!

Had a great experience at Spoke & Hub and will definitely be back. Started with the Cajun Spinach & Artichoke Dip, which was creamy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. It disappeared quickly. Ordered a Bloody Mary to go with it, and it was well-balanced with a good kick. For my main dish, I went with the Ranchero Breakfast Bowl from their 'Breakfast All Day' menu (which I love). Eggs are made to order (I opted for scrambled which I recommend) and the queso hit the spot without being too heavy. We sat outside on a beautiful day, which made the experience even better. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu.

It's Simple as the name suggests…read more Nothing fancy or elaborate about this place. It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.

We were able to be seated as walk-ins on Presidents Day morning, although the place was absolutely packed. The service here was warm and the food came out moderately quick. This place feels like one of those higher end casual spots, definitely a step above IHOP, but not quite First Watch. We ordered a bunch of things so we'll break it down one by one: Pancakes with bacon - a bit of a letdown. Pancakes had no real flavor and the bacon was good, not great. Beignets - pretty good. Better than some we've had for sure, a nice sweet and doughy treat. French toast bites - very delicious. Came with a nice, sweet dipping sauce that really brought it home. Fried catfish & grits - hit and a miss. The catfish was delicious and lightly battered, the grits were very heavy and buttery which didn't go well with the catfish. It does also come with a biscuit that was light and buttery. Creamy vanilla iced coffee - good. Nothing too special, definitely better than a chain like Starbucks, that's for sure. It had a nice sweetness to it. Altogether, Ruby Slipper is a decent breakfast spot. Nothing we ate really hit it out of the park, but we were satisfied with our meal. It really seems like a local favorite spot and one that feels convenient to hit coming and going from NOLA. The service was unfriendly, the food was overpriced, and the overall experience was disappointing from start to finish. I ordered the table beignets, and they tasted more like fried biscuits than the beignets they used to serve. My son ordered a chicken waffle and was asked if he wanted bacon(2pc) on the side, assuming it came with the meal, only to later find out it was an extra charge that was never explained. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which used to be my favorite dish here, and it was terrible. The only flavor was Worcestershire sauce and green onions. Nothing about it tasted fresh or balanced. The restaurant itself was not clean. The floors were sticky, and the tables were so wobbly our drinks kept sloshing out. We finally had to shove napkins under the table leg just to keep it stable. To top it off, we never received one of the drinks we ordered or the extra bread we asked for. For just me and my son to eat brunch, the bill came to over $72. I truly hate leaving bad reviews, but between the poor attitudes, dirty floors, lack of service, surprise fees, and bad food, this place earned it. There are too many better brunch spots in Baton Rouge to waste your money here. And one last thing -- if you're going to charge a party fee, charge it fairly across the table instead of sticking certain people with more because they ordered more food. Do better.

She came across as short, unfriendly, and overall not very pleasant. I first ordered a Banana Foster's Martini, but she came back and said they didn't have the ingredients. No problem--I asked for an Espresso Martini instead. A few minutes later, after bringing everyone else's drinks, she returned and simply said they couldn't make that either and asked if I wanted something else. At that point, I just declined. When it was time to order, our table had nine people. She took my husband's order, then went around the table taking everyone else's order. By the time she got back to me, she said, "Okay, is that it?" I had to remind her that she hadn't taken my order yet. I ordered the crab and corn bisque, a salad, and the stuffed catfish with creamed spinach. The salad came out quickly and was very good. Then everyone else at the table received their meals while I only received my bisque. After waiting, I was told my stuffed catfish "didn't come out right" and had to be remade. At that point, I honestly wondered if it was a joke. It wasn't. By the time my entrée arrived, everyone else was nearly finished eating. To the restaurant's credit, they did remove the stuffed catfish from my bill, and I appreciated that. However, the entire experience left me feeling overlooked from start to finish. My biggest suggestion would be for our waitress to work on her customer service. A smile goes a long way. Saying things like "Give me that plate," slamming cups onto the table, and appearing annoyed throughout the meal doesn't create a welcoming dining experience. Hospitality is just as important as the food, and I hope this feedback is taken constructively.
