When you read the reviews below, most people know what this restaurant is and how it works. My response is less harsh about the service or it's overpriced charcuterie board concept. I have lived in BR for 6 years now. Many departments at LSU take guests there and in that time, Building 5 has done nothing to improve its parking lot. The restaurant sits underneath an overpass and the parking is pothole marked unpaved gravel. This means that there is no room for wheelchairs or accommodations for anyone who is differently-abled to get into the restaurant. The whole restaurant makes no room for handicapped persons. On the occasion I did get food, the food is slightly overpriced. All meats were cooked adequately but the food was lukewarm probably owing to sitting in the kitchen under the heat lamp than being delivered promptly. When I have gone, I regularly have to ask for refills on soda as I am the designated driver often for department functions. Servers pay you no heed if you do not buy alcohol. Because I go here because of academic reasons, I would barely go here myself. I've been here many times and found it wanting. It's an ableist place in its infrastructure. It's fine I'm atmosphere as a cocktail bar but would little recommend it to people I call friend. read more

This is my second time visiting! The food is always great. The service was okay, our server wasn't very helpful with the menu and answering questions. I do recommend making a reservation. We were seated at a high top table that was wobbly and had to hold our drinks anytime it moved and were told we couldn't be moved to another table because they were all reserved. This was my 1st time at BLDG 5 and IT WILL NOT BE MY LAST. I hadn't seen 3 of my girl friends in a few so we decided to do a GIRLS night. It was so much fun. The restaurant itself is a hidden gem! It's cute! We started with some red wine... there weee 2 bottles because it was so good. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer... which was so good I forgot to take a picture and we shared the harvest board. That was a great selection !!!! The steak and salmon were cooked to perfection- medium rare ... service was excellent especially on a very busy night. The best part ...they personalized our table. I LOVED the decor, atmosphere and particularly all the live plants in the place! Super clean with a refreshing energetic vibe! ALL the food I saw around me looked super fresh! The service was friendly & I appreciated the fact that they had enough staff so that the waiters didn't look stressed or running all around! They were relaxed so the entire experience was pleasant. There's an option to sit inside or outside and interesting things for sale and to look at without the place being overcrowded. The food was delicious! I had the salad and loved every bite! The lemon vinaigrette was smooth and had just the perfect amount of lemon! The prices are very reasonable especially for a farm to table, healthy restaurant! I highly recommend this place, especially to my vegan friends! Vegan restaurants are few and far between around here so this is a great choice since the salads are full and not just lettuce with a side slice of cucumber I definitely will go back when in Baton Rouge! Very cute interior and outdoor dining area. Great for dates or for a friend or family dinner. Would recommend making a reservation. The crab cakes, braised short ribs and all the spreads and breads are great options to start with. The boards are a good amount of food and are always fresh and tasty. Service is always great too. On vacation for a few days in the are. Tried bldg5 on a whim as we saw they had good reviews. The indoor seating area had a waitlist but we were able to be seated in the outdoor patio area immediately, so we took the opportunity. We are from Michigan, so sitting outside in the July heat of Louisiana was questionable, but the patio was fairly shaded and they had tons of oscillating fans which kept us sufficiently comfortable. Our waitress was amazing and attentive. The live music was only present on the patio and the woman they had playing acoustic guitar was one of the best singers I've heard. She only played covers, but her voice was beautiful. Our waitress provided my child with the ability to try the lemonade before ordering. As a parent to young children, this was incredibly helpful so I wasn't wasting money on drinks my children ended up disliking. The method used for the taste test was hilarious too; the waitress gave my 9yo a shot glass with lemonade in it and my 9yo drank it in one-go as if it were a shot of whiskey. We all got a good laugh. The food itself was fantastic. The menu was very different from anything we have ever seen, but in the best way. I tried my 7yos steak that he got from the kids menu and it was literally one of the best steaks I've ever had. My husband and I usually order 2 different meals and split them 50/50, which is what we did here too. I got the Baja board and my husband got the shrimp panang. The shrimp panang reminded me a lot of a better version of Indian curry. The Baja board reminded me of a better version of Mexican fajitas. My spouse and I each ordered an alcoholic beverage. They had a fairly broad alcohol menu, which was nice. I got a mule and my husband got beer, both of which were delicious. The only negative side to this experience was that while the patio was beautifully decorated with plants in every corner and even some hanging from the patio walls, we were sat near a wall in which you could view the neighboring property which looked to have a lot of trash and miscellaneous metal objects strewn about. The dining experience was good, but for the price we paid, I would've liked to have not been able to view the trash while i enjoyed my meal. read more

I went to BLDG 5 with my husband for our anniversary dinner and it was my first time there! We ordered the crabcake appetizer, which is absolutely my favorite thing on the entire menu! Like 10 out of 10 good and we also ordered the Mexican board which was really really good. The service was amazing. Bartenders were great. We had several espresso martinis and we left very full, very happy! And I've been back since with my mom, so I highly recommend trying BLDG 5! read more

Had dinner at 4pm so there wasn't a crowd and our waitress was so welcoming and inviting. She explaining everything to us, answered all our questions, & was not upset and was really knowledgeable about the menu. The food was a 10/10! Building Five is one of my favorite spots. They have a ton of options and their food is consistently good. I love that they offer a variety of boards you can share, and their drink options are great too. You can sit inside or outside, and they even have live music on some nights, which adds to the atmosphere. The service has always been great every time I've gone. They also have the cutest merchandise available for purchase. It's a great place for date night, hanging out with friends, celebrating birthdays or anniversaries, or just spending time with family. I popped up here on a Friday around lunch time. Parking under the overpass is tricky, however there is a new paid parking lot with a good amount of parking spots. The place is nicely decorated with indoor and outdoor seating. It was cold on this day so there were no outside diners. I ended up sitting at the bar because the wait for a table for 1 was about 20-30 minutes. I advise to make reservations by phone. The service was nice, friendly, and fast. I tried a sample of the Pomegranate Blueberry Ginger mocktail. It was good but not sweet enough! My server gave me a shot of simple syrup which was a great addition. My server and a guest both recommended the Baja Chicken bowl. I enjoyed the bowl but it wasnt enough food for the price. I would come back and try the dinner menu. Really cute solid spot in Baton Rouge! I came here on a recommendation while visiting town. My biggest complaint is parking is kind of terrible and confusing. They really need to fix their instructions to pin parking correctly. It took us about 3 different tries to even find the restaurant since it is tucked away under this bridge. That didn't start out our experience well. If also definitely recommend making reservations since this place was extremely busy for a Wednesday night. We were seated outside, luckily the weather was nice. They even had a live singer! Really nice ambiance, lots of plants, a very fresh vibe. We got the grazing plate for two, and then made our own plates. I got the brussel sprouts, steak, and chimmichurri sauce. Overall the food was delicious, everything was super fresh, lots of good flavors and texture in the dishes. I also got the house lemonade, which was surprisingly very hibiscus esque. I would've loved to give this place 5/5 since ambiance and flavors were top notch, but the food came out a bit lukewarm and service was extremely slow. All of that on top of the confusing parking. We came to bldg5 on a Saturday night and had a great time! It was pretty busy but we were easily able to sit at the bar. The service was quick and the bartenders were very nice. I got the BLDG 5 original chicken sandwich and it was amazing; honestly the best sandwich in Baton Rouge! The house made chips could've used a little extra salt/seasoning. They were fine, but I'd probably swap them out for a salad or something else next time. I also tried the Hawaiian Cali Coast Margarita and loved it. It was a little strong at first, but with an extra splash of pineapple juice it was perfect. Their menu has a ton of things, so I'd love to come back and try something else! Came to BLDG5 while I was in town to visit someone. When we arrived the location is under an overpass, so it can be easy to miss. Parking was easy, as there were spots available. When we walked in, I was surprised at how cute it was outside. I guess they say don't judge a book by its cover. We were seated in the window section, which had floor to ceiling windows displaying their cute garden. Our server was super attentive. We both ordered a cocktail and they came out quickly. After looking over the menu, we both opted to get boards. I got a board with steak and their potatoes, it also came with grains, and your choice of sauce for the steak. It was amazing. tonight a friend and I got the crab cakes to start and the Harvest board and added steak. First of all - the wait staff knows what's up! We ordered the app and the board for 1 because Joelle said that we would have way too much if we ordered the board for two. She was right about that! We had half of the board for 1 left. She makes a good spicy margarita too, so make sure you get one of those from Joelle. The food here is just so freakin' good! I can't wait to come back again. BLDG5 is located in a tropical concrete jungle tucked away in a tiny and unassuming corner of downtown Baton Rouge. Although the portion sizes leave much to be desired, the menu pairings show off the kitchen's ability to balance both subtle and bold flavors. We especially enjoyed the peri peri sauce and balela salad that accompanies the nicoise or protein platters. The sauce in particular had a nice heat and acidity to it that really paired well with the steak and the salmon. The food was a bit on the pricier side but everything was fresh and made to order. 7/10 They don't have a signature dish but they know how to cook food really well--tender meats, fresh and flavorful veggies, solid dips and sauces that don't leave you feeling sluggish after eating. I would recommend this spot to anyone who enjoys Mediterranean cuisine or fusion food. Great and friendly service as well, one of the waitresses was on her lunch break but she still managed to flag down one of the waitresses so we could get our picture taken! read more

I am writing this as a first timer. I came to Bldg 5 tonight, and I have no notes for them. Everything they are doing, they should keep doing it. From the second I walked in, the hostess was so kind and welcoming. The vibes in there were not what I was expecting, but they were very nice. Great atmosphere with great music. As far as the food goes, it was phenomenal. I ordered the protein plate with steak as my protein with their Argentinian Chimichurri sauce, and roasted potatoes as my side. The steak was perfectly cooked, but the potatoes were my favorite. I waited maybe 15 minutes for the food to get to the table after I ordered it. Amazing experience, I will be going again! read more
