Building Five is one of my favorite spots. They have a ton of options and their food is consistently good. I love that they offer a variety of boards you can share, and their drink options are great too. You can sit inside or outside, and they even have live music on some nights, which adds to the atmosphere. The service has always been great every time I've gone. They also have the cutest merchandise available for purchase. It's a great place for date night, hanging out with friends, celebrating birthdays or anniversaries, or just spending time with family. I LOVED the decor, atmosphere and particularly all the live plants in the place! Super clean with a refreshing energetic vibe! ALL the food I saw around me looked super fresh! The service was friendly & I appreciated the fact that they had enough staff so that the waiters didn't look stressed or running all around! They were relaxed so the entire experience was pleasant. There's an option to sit inside or outside and interesting things for sale and to look at without the place being overcrowded. The food was delicious! I had the salad and loved every bite! The lemon vinaigrette was smooth and had just the perfect amount of lemon! The prices are very reasonable especially for a farm to table, healthy restaurant! I went to BLDG 5 with my husband for our anniversary dinner and it was my first time there! We ordered the crabcake appetizer, which is absolutely my favorite thing on the entire menu! Like 10 out of 10 good and we also ordered the Mexican board which was really really good. The service was amazing. Bartenders were great. Had dinner at 4pm so there wasn't a crowd and our waitress was so welcoming and inviting. She explaining everything to us, answered all our questions, & was not upset and was really knowledgeable about the menu. The food was a 10/10! I popped up here on a Friday around lunch time. Parking under the overpass is tricky, however there is a new paid parking lot with a good amount of parking spots. The place is nicely decorated with indoor and outdoor seating. It was cold on this day so there were no outside diners. I ended up sitting at the bar because the wait for a table for 1 was about 20-30 minutes. I advise to make reservations by phone. The service was nice, friendly, and fast. I tried a sample of the Pomegranate Blueberry Ginger mocktail. It was good but not sweet enough! My server gave me a shot of simple syrup which was a great addition. My server and a guest both recommended the Baja Chicken bowl. I enjoyed the bowl but it wasnt enough food for the price. I would come back and try the dinner menu. This place looks great, but really isn't. Started with calling ahead day ahead to make a reservation. Outside if the weather permitted. Got there and was told they will not be seating outside because it rained earlier, which would've been understandable if that were the case. Got seated at a horrible table at the very entrance by the hostess stand directly next to a column where I had zero elbow room. I was literally shoulder to pole. Asked to be moved because of the horrible seating. They obliged. As they moved us to the very back corner of an empty room, like we had become a burden to them, we passed by an open table next to the window to the outside seating area. Why wouldn't they have put us there you may be wondering? Well, when I asked that same question to them they said it was for a reservation????!!!!! Reservation you say? Well we had a reservation also and why wouldn't they seat the reservation that asked for an outside table to the next closest thing to an outside table? I asked that question also and they moved us there. This is where it got better momentarily. The waiter took our drink orders and I'd like to say that the waiter was excellent. He was attentive and very accommodating. That's where the good ends is with him and the drinks. The whole restaurant is crowded and loud, which is why I prefer outdoor seating. Immediately after we were seated there and they took our drink orders I noticed they started seating in the outside area where the live music was and also where I had originally had our reservation for. That was less than 15 minutes into our ordeal. Why not just ask if we would like to wait a few minutes while they get the outside seating area ready instead of telling me they will not be seating in that area that night? It's beyond me. We then ordered our food and when the food came out it tasted good, but it was all cold. We ordered the shakshuka and the harvest board with steak added. Every bit of the food was cold. There was not a warm or hot thing on either of those plates. I don't think I will be going back to Bldg 5 because of this. It's a shame too, because the atmosphere is very nice with all the natural plants and tables and all are nice. It is very loud inside though and the two tables in the front area should be done away with or moved to different places away from poles being at your shoulders. The food is not good enough for the prices, especially when it comes out cold. My suggestion to the Bldg 5 manager staff would be to put people with reservations as close to the area they requested as possible and also don't tell them you won't be seating in that area if you are going to seat people there in less than 15 minutes. Definitely don't seat them next to poles and then put them in the back corner of an empty room like a they're a burden to you. This is crazy to say, but this was my second worse experience at any restaurant ever except for a Golden Corral and that's a third rate low tier place. Even my experiences at Waffle Houses have been better than here. read more

Really cute solid spot in Baton Rouge! I came here on a recommendation while visiting town. My biggest complaint is parking is kind of terrible and confusing. They really need to fix their instructions to pin parking correctly. It took us about 3 different tries to even find the restaurant since it is tucked away under this bridge. That didn't start out our experience well. If also definitely recommend making reservations since this place was extremely busy for a Wednesday night. We were seated outside, luckily the weather was nice. They even had a live singer! Really nice ambiance, lots of plants, a very fresh vibe. We got the grazing plate for two, and then made our own plates. I got the brussel sprouts, steak, and chimmichurri sauce. Overall the food was delicious, everything was super fresh, lots of good flavors and texture in the dishes. I also got the house lemonade, which was surprisingly very hibiscus esque. I would've loved to give this place 5/5 since ambiance and flavors were top notch, but the food came out a bit lukewarm and service was extremely slow. All of that on top of the confusing parking. I am writing this as a first timer. I came to Bldg 5 tonight, and I have no notes for them. Everything they are doing, they should keep doing it. From the second I walked in, the hostess was so kind and welcoming. The vibes in there were not what I was expecting, but they were very nice. Great atmosphere with great music. As far as the food goes, it was phenomenal. I ordered the protein plate with steak as my protein with their Argentinian Chimichurri sauce, and roasted potatoes as my side. The steak was perfectly cooked, but the potatoes were my favorite. I waited maybe 15 minutes for the food to get to the table after I ordered it. Amazing experience, I will be going again! read more

We came to bldg5 on a Saturday night and had a great time! It was pretty busy but we were easily able to sit at the bar. The service was quick and the bartenders were very nice. I got the BLDG 5 original chicken sandwich and it was amazing; honestly the best sandwich in Baton Rouge! The house made chips could've used a little extra salt/seasoning. They were fine, but I'd probably swap them out for a salad or something else next time. I also tried the Hawaiian Cali Coast Margarita and loved it. It was a little strong at first, but with an extra splash of pineapple juice it was perfect. Their menu has a ton of things, so I'd love to come back and try something else! When we walked in, I was surprised at how cute it was outside. I guess they say don't judge a book by its cover. We were seated in the window section, which had floor to ceiling windows displaying their cute garden. Our server was super attentive. We both ordered a cocktail and they came out quickly. After looking over the menu, we both opted to get boards. I got a board with steak and their potatoes, it also came with grains, and your choice of sauce for the steak. We had reservations for two at 6:15pm. We arrive and were seated in the back room at a two top, and the top of the table was unstable and it kept wobbling. I asked our server if we could move tables because the table top was driving both me and my husband nuts ... and it would shake our drinks if one of us touched or leaned on it. The server acted irritated with me asking and said he would see what he could do. When the server did nothing, my husband asked for the manager to come over, and the manager came over and told my husband that he was not going to allow us to move tables and that all the others were reserved, even though no one was sitting in them. We were taken back about how rude and unaccommodating they were about THEIR table issue. They were exceptionally rude, so we left. No thank you. read more

BLDG5 is located in a tropical concrete jungle tucked away in a tiny and unassuming corner of downtown Baton Rouge. Although the portion sizes leave much to be desired, the menu pairings show off the kitchen's ability to balance both subtle and bold flavors. We especially enjoyed the peri peri sauce and balela salad that accompanies the nicoise or protein platters. The sauce in particular had a nice heat and acidity to it that really paired well with the steak and the salmon. The food was a bit on the pricier side but everything was fresh and made to order. 7/10 They don't have a signature dish but they know how to cook food really well--tender meats, fresh and flavorful veggies, solid dips and sauces that don't leave you feeling sluggish after eating. I would recommend this spot to anyone who enjoys Mediterranean cuisine or fusion food. Great and friendly service as well, one of the waitresses was on her lunch break but she still managed to flag down one of the waitresses so we could get our picture taken! read more

Went back again last night. This is going to be a regular stop for me. Last week I got the veggie plate. It was amazing. tonight a friend and I got the crab cakes to start and the Harvest board and added steak. First of all - the wait staff knows what's up! We ordered the app and the board for 1 because Joelle said that we would have way too much if we ordered the board for two. She was right about that! We had half of the board for 1 left. She makes a good spicy margarita too, so make sure you get one of those from Joelle. The food here is just so freakin' good! I can't wait to come back again. This is one of the coolest spots in all of Baton Rogue! It's a little tricky to get to because it's under a highway overpass, but definitely worth the hunt. Very modern/hip decor and a very inventive food menu. We stuck to the small plates and they did not disappoint. Do not miss the braised short ribs over polenta!
