We stumbled upon this bar as we were staying at the Marriott which is walking distance from this location. The bar is next to hooters in a relatively run down strip mall. And when you drive by this bar, you may think it's closed too as it's super dark looking from the outside except for the bar sign and the gas lanterns. It gives that speakeasy vibe. Nice you walk in you'll see where the party is happening. Multiple spaces within bar, each offering its own character. The seating gives off a relaxed vibe with couches and carpets a long the floor. Order drinks at the bar and then a place to lounge. The menu offer some unique drinks, including a caviar drink that will set you back somewhere in the low 30s. Worth a visit just for the vibes. I've been coming to Hayride for years, despite experiences many years ago, and everything continues to improve and exceed expectations. While it can still be difficult to fight your way to the bar, when you get there, it's well worth the wait. From their wine to cocktails to some craft beers, there is something for everyone. They offer small bites and boards as well. There's a great room in the back for a more quiet experience, or you can request it for an event. There is history everywhere in the room, and if you're lucky enough to visit with the owner while there, he will educate you on drinks, history, and fun little facts you didn't know you wanted to know! They have live music and occasional DJs which can be VERY loud, but their choices of talent are usually out of this world. You absolutely should make Hayride among your list of places to frequent, if nothing else, for the vibe. A great place to unwind. I went on a Wednesday evening. There was a live band playing. I'm a sucker for live music. My drinks of choice were a French 75, or 95 should I say since it was cognac. I've liked Hayride Scandal for a few years. It's decorated in a dark academia style with Edison bulbs and red velvet couches. I would call it the best decorated bar in Baton Rouge and I'd compare it to Bar Marilou in New Orleans. They serve well made, quality cocktails so they are more expensive. Yes, Baton Rouge. When coming from NYC you just aren't sure what exactly you're going to get, and you don't expect to find a craft cocktail bar placed here. While it may seem out of sorts, it's definitely a must try if you live in the area or are swinging through. Came on a Saturday, relatively early, and had the entire back to ourselves. There are two rooms, a larger one where the bar seats about 20? And lots of tables...and a smaller back room with chairs and couches and a gorgeous wallpapered wall perfect for all your photo ops :) The back bar is small with a slightly different menu, and our bartender was FABULOUS. Daniel? He spent a ton of time with us, and created absolutely amazing drinks based on our likes. My friends were amazed by some of the creations, and i could've stayed all night sampling drinks. From smoked lavender to egg whites and unique garnishes, this is the place to be. Will absolutely be back and we all asked to be put on Baton Rouge next year for work. Highly recommended!! read more

I was so surprised because it's right next to a hooters, but the moment you walk in it feels like you're transported to a whole new environment. The ambience is very chill. I've been here maybe 8 times now... never have bad time. Covid friendly, lovely staff, outdoor seating with fire. They gave us marshmallows and a skewer because they just care. They have three outdoor seating areas and close to a dozen inside seating areas. Tip: The atmosphere is pretty swanky, but it does that while maintaining a kicked back vibe - I like it! When we went up to the bar the mixologist was friendly and very helpful. He helped us with the menu and even gave us a brief history of the bar (it was our first visit, and we said as much). We then took our drinks to an unoccupied table to enjoy them while taking in this lovely, cool little place right in the heart of Baton Rouge. We came here a few years ago when it was Lock and Key, we liked it ok then but Hayride Scandal has totally improved upon the last idea. Like a remix that made a song even better. First, it wasn't overly loud, which for whatever reason seems hard to do in a bar around here. The decor was moody and eclectic. People from all walks of life in there and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. We sat at the bar and the service was prompt and friendly. The bartenders really know how to mix a good drink. I don't even like bourbon but I tried my husbands old fashioned and actually enjoyed it! And it was with Buffalo Trace so not an extremely pricey brand. I had a Moscow mule off the happy hour menu and it was excellent, and also a Dark and Stormy on the recommendation of the nice guy sitting next to us at the bar. I was happy to see options for food, we tried the toast with goat cheese and it was pretty good, not something I'm going to crave later but a good option for a small bite. They had some really interesting small plates we didn't try because we had reservations for dinner elsewhere. My husband was impressed with the liquor selection, especially the multiple options from Orphan Barrel which we have had a hard time finding just about anywhere. We will be back for sure! read more

I love the theme of this bar it's made to be set back in the Prohibition Time era . It was smaller than I expected but still a nice size to sit and have some drinks with friends . There is a outside area for smokers . They had all types of drinks I ordered a Antonio Banderas it was small but very strong the sherry in it kind of took over the whole drink it was $12. My husband had them make him a sweet but tart drink for $10 he enjoyed but I didn't lol. I'm one of those people who don't want to taste the alcohol but I want to feel it lol!
