I ordered the Chicken taco plate which was delicious. Beans were delicious and rice was lime with corn and parsley. The salsa was excellent not too spicy. Atmosphere was nice and clean. Waitress was in nursing school we didn't write down her name. She was so attentive, friendly and was great at suggestions. My Mom had the tortilla soup and it was so fresh with sliced avocado and chicken, It was a generous portion. Would like to go back and try the shrimp tacos or fajitas and a margarita. Big restaurant perfect for a party. read more

OMG... what a yummy spot that has been sleepy secret until NOW.... The food is so fresh, authentic and delicious. Dinner starts with complementary chips and salsa that are super yummy. Got the trio dip that has this cheesy gooey queso , corn with herbs and cheese and chunky guacamole. We order the carne asada and poncho mixto. The freshness of the food. I will go back and continue to try a new dishes ! But they also have tacos and burritos. The drinks were good too!!! Service was awesome. Gloria was our waitress and she provided some assistance with the choices made. We ate in the bar area. The ambiance of the restaurant is super cute for a girls night out or a first dinner date or a date night with that special someone. read more

First chips were nice and warm and crispy and the salsa had a really unique flavor that I wasn't accustomed to. It wasn't spicy like most salsa that I taste, but it also had a different flavor. I couldn't really put my finger on what the difference was, but it was really good. I ordered the Carne Asada and it was 10 out of 10 for presentation. The dish came steaming, sizzling and smoking as they sat it down and it continued to do so for over a minute. While the steak was cooked properly, medium well as I requested, it was very tough. Maybe it was an angry cow. Regardless, the staff was very attentive. And the service was very fast. Ambience was nice and it felt very comfortable although it was a bit cold so I had to go and get a jacket for my mom and my sister-in-law. I would give them another try the next time I'm in the area. The menu had a few options that I would be interested in. read more

Veracruz offers Mexican food with Caribbean flair. Private parking lot next to the building. Casual ambience and dress code with a bar, outdoor and main dining areas. I found some of the dishes to be a bit pricey for what you actually got while others were very affordable. Service was good. I will visit again. read more

It was an absolutely insane prank of some kind ordering nachos. I only wish I had taken a photo....it took everything in me to not cry from laughter. It was--and I am simply not exaggerating--like 7 Tostito rounds with the tiniest amount of protein one can imagine on each chip. The cheese I think was served in a minuscule cup (think to-go sauce cup) and they had the absolute audacity to offer no sides for a whopping $17 (not including tip or tax). Without the receipt i can't remember....it may have been more than that. Suffice to say I would give this restaurant one star, but the second star is because the protein I had was seasoned nicely. I just am absolutely flabbergasted at the portion sizes for the price! And don't get me started on the appetizer.........I'll just end it here. read more

The salsa is a mystery - it's good, not at all spicy, kind of orange with a distinct tomato flavor, and a little sweet. Not bad, but not a traditional salsa you might expect. We did eat it all, though. Pinchos mixtos - grilled chicken and skirt steak skewers had a fantastic chimichurri on the chicken. The steak also had a great grill flavor. And tostones - very hard to find around here. So good!! I tried the pescado (fish) taco, pulpo (octopus), and batata (sweet potato). All were really good, but the pescado was fantastic. The salsa macha really makes it. Best fish taco I've had outside of San Diego Old Town. The spicy cucumber margarita had a little jalapeño flavor but didn't have the traditional sour flavor of a margarita. It was like a slightly spicy cucumber water. Just order a traditional margarita and ask for jalapeños in it. Four stars for the pinchos mixto and pescado taco. I'll be back for that. read more

Ambiance, music, and food. All good. Ceviche was good, would have liked more fish and maybe smaller pieces. The duck empanadas were good and could use a little more stuffing. The guava margarita is great. The oyster tacos were perfect! Great job. The constra steak also very good. Their tacos are legit. Salsa was ok. Just quality place and enjoyed the food. read more

A great coastal Mexican restaurant! I came on a Friday around 6 and was seated immediately outside on the front patio. When we went inside to the hostess stand, the restaurant was beautiful. It gave coastal vibes, and it was very clean from what we saw. We were seated at the front patio. My only complaint, no tvs out there... because the inside is so beautiful, you can look at that, so I wish there was something outside. But, I did like the string lights out in the parking lot. To start, we got lots of drinks. I started with the sangria, which I didn't love, so for my second drink I got the guava margarita, which I loved! Also, the color of it was pretty. We also got the frozen margarita, which was very strong. Chips were also complimentary for the first round, and then you had to pay to get more. The salsa that was with it was spicy but good. For food, I got the burrito, which came with a lot of food! Fries, beans, and rice all with it. I got the rice and beans on the side, and the rice was different, but I liked it. It was sweet and had corn mixed in. The burrito was cut like a wrap, and this made it a lot easier to eat. The food was 10/10 and tasted very fresh. The service could have been better, as we waited a long time for our waitress to come check on us, but other than that she was very nice and got everything we ordered correct. I can't wait to come back for more. read more

Went here for dinner with a friend and we both loved it. We each got a drink and they were incredible. I had the frozen strawberry margarita and she got the spicy cucumber margarita. Both were super flavorful and honestly some of the best margaritas we've had in a while. I ordered the Asada tacos with just tomato and cheese because of some allergies, and they were delicious. Chips and salsa were great too, the salsa has good flavor without being too spicy, so it works for people who are sensitive to heat or just don't love super spicy food. Basically perfect for sharing at the table. The ambience is adorable. It works for date night, girls night, or going with a group. Our server was awesome, really attentive, kind, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, such a great experience. Would definitely come back! read more

New places means it's time for me to go try it out. This new restaurant is bringing a twist on the Mexican food cuisine options we have in BR. I went for lunch and got the fajitas and a cup of queso to go along with my chips. First, the fajitas were pretty good and had a little different flavor profile than what I get a Tex mex restaurants. Overall I enjoyed it. The rice was different but that's the point of this concept. It was ok. The star of the show was the queso. Very delicious! Would highly recommend this and the salsa served with it is not bad - just a little sweet. Overall the place is clean, my waiter was nice, but for lunch this can be a bit pricey. I might stop back for a dinner! read more

Alright, people. This place is SO GOOD!! The food is incredible. The service is wonderful. The design is cute inside too. Even the chips and salsa are awesome. The salsa is different, kind of sweet, super tasty. You MUST order the Tuna Tostones app. The Pulpo (octopus) taco and the Ostion (oyster) taco are amazing!!! And the rice and beans are great, not just thoughtless sides. Everything on the menu is high quality but the prices are not bad. I got to meet the owner, William, because he is so active greeting customers, serving food, checking on tables and he is so great!! I have now been twice in one week and the weekend is young so I might make it three. I hope this place thrives. We need to keep places like this in business in BR. Shouldn't be a problem, yall!! read more

Very good food, a unique take on south of the border cuisine, excellent margaritas and generally good service, except the waitress forgot my beer. However, my ears are still ringing from the extreme noise levels in this otherwise nicely appointed restaurant. We had to shout just to place our order. Louder than even the Chimes East. I haven't seen too many other reviews mention this, so maybe that's how Baton Rougeans like their restaurants? Not me, and I won't be back. read more

So good! Great service, great food, beautiful space. Definitely recommend!! The octopus and yuca fries are delicious

Amazing food atmosphere and service. Food is different yet still delicious. Our server was amazing. Beautiful decor!

Went in during a really slow time. I believe it was my and friend and only one other two top their the entire time. So, I can say the waitress was very attentive. It was my first time so I didn't know what to get and the waitress recommended the pork belly carnitas. But first, we had the dip trio to start. The queso was hot and tasted as good as any other. The corn dip was fresh and flavorful as well. My only concern was the guac needed salt or something. It was basically just avocado and I also would order it without the nuts next time. I wasn't a fan. The chips were fresh. I didn't like the salsa at all, it was too sweet for me. The pork belly plate was decent. The plantain was freshly fried, the avocado/tomato salad was fresh and cold, the rice was warm and fluffy, and the pork belly was warmed properly. I probably would try a different dish next time though as the pork belly just didn't do it for me. It was just ok in my opinion. read more

Veracruz might be tucked away, but once you step inside, the cool, vibrant vibe makes it worth it. The food is fresh and full of flavor, and the menu isn't your typical Baton Rouge Mexican lineup -- there are some unique dishes you won't find elsewhere. The service is consistently great, and Hunter, the bartender, deserves a shoutout -- especially for the spot-on spicy margaritas. Y'ALL. I wasn't ready. I came in expecting a good dinner, and left absolutely floored. Veracruz isn't just another new spot--it's one of the best dining experiences I've had in Baton Rouge. The flavors are bold, creative, and downright addictive. I can't stop thinking about the sweet potato taco--how can something so simple be that good?! Crispy edges, warm and comforting, with just enough spice to make you pause mid-bite. The pork belly taco was rich and melty, and the asada brought that juicy, confident steak energy. Every taco was a knockout. The apps? The queso was gooey, cheesy gold, but the salsa is what sent me. I asked for it THREE times. It was unlike anything I've had before--bright, savory, and almost like a tomato basil soup and salsa hybrid. I would 100% drink it. Cocktails were perfection. The Passionfruit Martini was tropical and flirty, the Guava Margarita was sweet and refreshing, and the Añejo Old Fashioned brought depth and smoke in the best way. And I have to shout out William, the owner--he was incredibly friendly, helpful, and walked us through the menu with so much passion and clarity. You can tell he truly cares about the experience and the flavors he's putting out there. The vibe? Effortlessly coastal and modern. The kind of place you want to linger. Veracruz is a gem--a full-blown experience. Baton Rouge, I hope you're ready to embrace this kind of flavor because this place needs to stay. Easily a 10/10. Already planning my next visit. read more

The food, drinks, and staff at Veracruz were absolutely exceptional. The tacos and rice were phenomenal, with unique variations that worked amazingly well. I was beyond pleasantly surprised with the rice, as it consisted of white rice and corn, and it tasted better to me than the yellow rice served at non-coastal Mexican restaurants. The tacos were boasting with flavor, while not being overpowering whatsoever, and were delicious in their entirety. The flavors of the meat, as well as the sweet potato, were blended perfectly with the toppings and garnishes listed. The wait staff and bartender were super friendly, attentive, and fast, and the ambiance was modern, open with high ceilings, and inviting. It is certainly a hidden gem, both literally and figuratively, as it can be slightly challenging to find the entrance and parking; but it is well worth the adventure! Highly recommend. Thank you Veracruz for a 5 star experience! P.s. I need to remember to get more pictures instead of getting lost in the sauce - next time will do! read more

Went for lunch with my husband. Really cute place. I got the taco plate with the asada, octopus and the costra. The costra was my favorite and the octopus was a close second. The asada had a little too much going on. My husband got the tuna tostones. He really like the plantain and the idea but didn't like the sauce mixed with the tuna. Think that was a personal preference, but didn't try it to give me opinion. Can't wait to come back at dinner and gets some drinks. read more

Hola mi gente hermosa- I had to come check this new Mexican restaurant out in Baton Rouge. The rave was that this is not the average Mexican food place that it had a different style and flavor. This restaurant brought out their coastal cuisine and it sure was refreshing to have something that tasted like home. The moment we stepped foot in the door we were greeted with smiles and it made it feel like home. This cozy restaurant was full with people but it made it seem like it was a house party full of relatives having dinner. We started out with the queso dip which was delicious. The chips were the best I couldn't stop eating them. Chips were served with salsa. The salsa in my opinion was ok I would of liked a bit more of spice cuz this Latina likes it spicy. However you can ask your server for some other salsa and I mixed the three together to add some spice to the table salsa. We had our son with us so we ordered him the Pincho de Steak. Which is a skewer of beef with a side of fries. My son is a picky eater but he ate his entire meal and that rarely happens. So in my opinion the kids steak was definitely chef kiss. As for me personally if there is an option to get fajitas they'd what I will definitely order. I like to try fajitas from different restaurants. Usually I'm disappointed of the meat to veggie ratio, but not here they actually give you a good size portion of steak. The wood grilled steak with the chimichurri sauce was amazing. The streak was cooked to perfection and it melted in my mouth like butter. It was served with a side of shredded cheese, pico and rice. I wasn't a fan of the rice. The rice was too bland and mushy. It didn't taste like anything to me and it wasn't fluffy it was a ball of rice. The flour tortillas could be cooked a little more they just tasted like they were taken out of the package and rolled up in foil. My husband ordered the 3 taco plate on corn tortillas. He got Panza (which means stomach but translated to pork belly), Asada and the pescado tacos that were served with beans and rice. I will say that this is one of the few places that the taco plate is served with sides at no extra charge. We ended with their plantain with Cajeta and vanilla bean ice cream. This dessert was so delicious that I had to fight my husband to get a few bites. I will say you have to order that dessert even if you're not hungry just go there for this dessert. read more

My daughter and I visited on a Thursday evening around 5:30pm. We were told that there was only outdoor seating available. It wasn't overly hot so we decided to stay. Once seated outdoors it started thundering here and there. When the waitress came with the water told her we might not stay because of the thunder. She said they were booked inside due to reservations. She also said they could close the shades on the patio in the event of rain. We decided to stay and order appetizers. We ordered the queso dip and steak skewers. The dip had a nice flavor but it was a little loose and the cup was small. I had seen raving reviews about the steak skewers but they were just ok to me. They could've used a little more seasoning and the temperature could've been hotter. They were lukewarm. Now the Plantain Tostones that came with it were very good. I also tried a passion fruit mocktail which was just okay. I went to their website but didn't see anything regarding reservations. I also searched on open table but there were not on there. I ended up asking the waitress about how to make reservations and she said they are done by phone. Cute date night spot, they also have a bar area. I may return in the future but I'd make sure to reserve inside seating. read more

These are hands down the best tacos in Baton Rouge. As a Texas native and having spent nearly 4 years managing a Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston, I cannot say enough about the food and service. Such a gem in BR!! Feels like you're in a different city! The guava margarita is a must!! Great service and amazing food

Food is fantastic and the service is great. The only negative is it's hard to physically get to the restaurant. Tacos were delicious.

We wanted to dine here yesterday and made a reservation for 6:30 specifically in a booth (for a medical reason). We arrived and were shown to a table. "No," we said, "we reserved a booth." The hostess then essentially called us liars and that she had no record of this. Now, a second hostess appears and says that they seat people by "recency." I kid you not she actually made up that word. Looking around, I see a couple sitting in a booth. Two people, not four. So this second hostess had given our table to her friends (can you guess how we know this?) and then tried to cover it by calling us liars. Needless to say, we won't be going back anytime soon. William, you need better staff. read more

I had the Pescado Milanesa with a perfect crunch and my husband had the steak quesadillas which were delicious!
