Okay I'm giving this 3 stars for the drinks but taking away 2 for the prices and food. I had the Pillowtalk martini and had to get another!! They were so. Good. The food however, was mid. Especially for the price. I had the Arcadia pasta and it fell a little flat. My friend had the shrimp and grits and was also satisfied but not pleased. Great after hours spot that a coworker & I went to! There was lively music & people chilling on the patio area. We sat & ordered at the bar. I had the cookies & cream bread pudding with poydras poutine: fries covered in chicken & andouille sausage gumbo! I had mine w/o the pulled pork but it was just as described on the menu.. succulent! But I did not realize that they only served brunch on Saturday and Sunday, so I decided to try the chicken and waffles anyway. Unlucky for me, we were served the worst chicken tenders I quite possibly ever had in my life, and I mean that. I will show you in photos below, but the chicken was so dry and shriveled up that it literally fell out of the batter every time we picked it up and it had the texture of rubber, overpriced, and some of the worst food I've ever had. No one, including wait staff, were in the dining area and we did have to wait a little longer than usual for someone to seat us. The decor was really nice. Brunch is on point! Brunch is my favorite, so Olive or Twist's brunch definitely hit the spot. It was a busy Sunday, but everything was worth the wait. I started with the Sangria... it was orange-y, pomegranate-y, with a hint of strawberry. It was so good and totally a different take on Sangrai, but again, I loved it! And it was in a big glass, so no need for seconds. As my meal, I got the bananas foster French toast. Best decision I made all week. It was sweet and the bananas were perfect. The syrup was already on the plate when I got it, so it was a perfect ratio of syrup to toast (I hate when I overpour). I ate everything just because it was so tasty. There is parking, but you just gotta look for it! It is in a complex with a bunch of other restaurants and places, so the parking lot is small, but there is parking! Vibes were good. well rounded music. Appetizers were good. As far as entrees not so much. It was definitely nothing to brag about. i had the catfish Atchafalaya and personally didn't like the portion size. I think for $24 dollar they could've given more than one scoop of rice and probably a ladle full of sauce with a piece of catfish. However, my husband had the pasta which offered a larger portion size. I think this place is perfect for drinks and apps. Something light. Not for entrees or maybe if you get an entree I'm sure burgers would be a safe choice. Our server was really nice and knowledgeable. And kept drinks filled. So this is my second official review of Olive or Twist and they meet my expectations each time. My hubby and I stopped in for the weekday happy hour, our attempt to save a few coins lol. We ordered the Whiskey Smash ($8) and the Jungle Bird ($8)! Please note: there is no food on the happy hour menu, just drinks. Both drinks were good, the whiskey smash was our favorite! We ended up ordering the Chicken and waffles! My husband was pleased to know it was an option on the dinner menu. I ventured out to try the Wedge salad and added steak ($8). The food came out quickly and was hot! My salad was delicious, but I was a little disappointed in how little steak I got for $8. I think the portion could have been bigger, but inflation I suppose. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection though! Also, if you love blue cheese, they don't hold back on the Wedge salad! So much blue cheese, I was in love! Overall, we were satisfied! Tried this out as I am new to Baton Rouge. I decided to sit at the bar and was not greeted. I asked for some time to look over the drink menu and was never asked again. When I asked if they made mojitos I was ignored. The guy spoke to everyone but me. Never checked on me asked how my appetizer was or anything. I just left feeling extremely unwelcomed. At first glance you want to love Olive or twist there is a quintessential vibe and atmosphere that almost screams hang out spot. I went for both their weekly happy hour and Sunday brunch. On both occasions I was strongly underwhelmed by the wait staff who always seemed distracted or bothered whenever he was called upon to wait on our table. Two of my friends had to return their plates because it was under seasoned. Do not get the steak and grits! Or essentially anything with beef in it. What a great experience!!! I have to say I love this place. I came on a Sunday and the vibe was fun, and exciting and lively. It became more quiet and sultry as the evening went on - it was all lovely. The food and drinks were delectable!! The short rib egg rolls were heavenly and a great way to start the meal. I had the crawfish pasta, which was tasty. And the wings were sweet in a good way with a lovely chipotle sauce on the side. I had two drinks: the whiskey smash and the Bramble. They were both so sumptuous. The drinks are made really well in this restaurant and have a proper amount of liquor in my opinion. Apparently, Sunday is happy hour all day and the drinks were $8 each instead of the usual $12. The customer service was great! They were kind and fast despite how busy they were. My waiter provided great suggestions and descriptions of the drink and food menu upon our request and I loved it all! This is a definite 5/5. I cant wait to come back again! Mimosas are decent, I like the bottomless mimosa idea. Drink as much as you want until 4pm. Unfortunately I am extremely disappointed that they claim to be sold out of French toast. The French toast is what I came for specifically and it's the 2nd week in a row. There is 2 more hours of the brunch menu remaining and they are out. I almost can't even express my disappointment. It is the only French toast option on the menu, I'm baffled. Same statement from the bartender as last week, "we literally just sold out'" as if they are trained say that. This restaurant is perfect for a late night meal and drinks. They stay open late and have a nice variety on their menu. The Dirty south chicken sandwich was delicious. From the looks of it on the outside was packed but we were seated immediately. So having to opt out from the crab paws we order the wings which was delicious. From the bottomless mimosas to the cocktails, the drinks at Olive or Twist are ALWAYS amazing. During last night's visit I saw two other tables drinking this drink that looked very yummy. I inquired with the waiter about it and was told it's called a Pillow Talk. Unfortunately this drink isn't on the menu so not all of the bartenders know how to make it ( I realllly hope that changes soon) but it was SO GOOD. Sweet but not too sweet and refreshing Also - all of the waiters and bartenders here are super friendly and helpful. I've never encountered any rude workers here. The only thing I would change about Olive or Twist is the food selection/quality. The dinner menu is pretty okay and the pasta is yummy. However the brunch menu and quality is lack luster. And describing the flavor as decent is generous. The signature salad with grilled shrimp featuring 4 over cooked shrimp, a "mango" vinaigrette that tasted like cheap perfume. Some of the Feta cheese on the salad had turned. But the spinach was fresh. So, kudos. Services was excellent, which garnered and extra star. I was impressed by how much flavorful meat was jam packed into each roll! This item is a must order. The wings were good. They had a chipotle ranch that went along side it. I'd consider them more sweet than "hot." The pasta was okay but I expected it to be loaded with more meat. The drinks we're very impressive and had great flavor profiles. When I do a review, I try to offer constructive criticism in a way that's not disrespectful, angry, or grudging. One restaurant in Orlando was really thankful for the feedback and remarked that they'd use it to improve things. Not sure Olive or Twist will feel that way but I do intend for this to be practical information that might be used to improve things. I first want to say that they have fair, reasonable prices for their menu items. I wanted to try them because I had read the stellar reviews about their brunch items. However, I was not able to make it during brunch hours and the Uber menu did not have anything brunchy so I figured I'd settle for what was available. I ordered the iceberg Wedge Salad, which had blue cheese crumbles, chopped egg, applewood smoked bacon, grape tomatoes, chives and buttermilk blue cheese dressing (DELICIOUS!). It was inexpensively priced at $8.00 but adding a protein was an extra $7-8 charge. I was fine with just the bacon and blue cheese, and the hefty salad was great, given the dressing and toppings...BUT...they left off the onions that I requested. I don't generally eat salads without onions so I was really disappointed. I called to let them know because I always give a place a chance before venting online about something and I'm usually rewarded with a makeover of my dish or something to make things right. NOT this time. She did apologize (thanks for that) but said she had two things to tell me: 1) They'd been out of red onions and could do nothing about that; 2) I had ordered extra toppings, also, none of which they'd had. They basically blamed it on Uber and said they'd contact them about updating their menu. Their "two things" were also my first and second strike. Strike 3 was the horrendous Braised Short Rib Eggrolls. First, let me say that the pepper jelly that served as a dipping sauce was the bomb! I actually saved the rest of it to eat with something else==don't know what yet, but something! Usually, I'm happy to see an eggroll stuffed silly with meat. And I LOVE short ribs--they're usually super tender, flavorful and delectable. These were stringy, tough, and gamy tasting, really disgusting. I pulled all of the meat out and dipped the empty eggroll skins in the pepper jelly. I'm no chef but I'd recommend possibly chopping the meat up instead of stuffing the skins with hunks of meat like that. Also, an Asian flavor profile would enhance the taste of the meat but that's just my two cents. I'd also offer my customer something that would demonstrate how apologetic they really are (send a note with the Uber driver to explain missing elements?). Finally, it hit wrong when they blamed Uber. I don't care whose fault it is--just make it right! Overall, I definitely wouldn't go back based on my experience unless it's for brunch...and someone else is treating. read more
