Cute location, and quiet even though it was a Saturday at 10am so I expected it to be busy. My omelette was good, and the potatoes were nicely seasoned. Will visit again if ever in town.

The food was fresh & hot! I was killing time waiting for court to start so I went in to have some breakfast. My waitress was very attentive & sweet.

Decided to try the breakfast before checking out of the hotel. The server was very sweet and funny. Although they did not have several items we ordered he made sure we found something we would like and constantly checked in on our table. I would like to go back and try the happy hour selections. Until next time and of course Geaux Tigers!

The decor is nice. We were the first to arrive around 11 am on a Sunday. We ordered breakfast brunch and our items were Lukewarm. I ended up asking for my grits to be warmed up more. I was given new hot grits. The temp of the food just made this a less than enjoyable experience. Not sure if I'd return.

Chicken biscuit breakfast! Chef DJ and his trusted sidekick and supervisor took great care of me.

Experience was great, Chef DJ and Ms. Wit gave a lovely and accommodating experience. 5stars

    CATFISH ORIGIN

Passé in Baton Rouge is delicious! First up, the Shrimp & Crawfish Dip - creamy, cheesy heaven with crispy pork rinds for dunkin'. Tuna Tartare with spicy ahi tuna, shrimp, and avocado with a wasabi aioli drizzle - very flavorful. The Pork Chop Tchoupitoulas was a perfectly grilled bone-in chop smothered in New Orleans-style BBQ shrimp, all on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. Food coma material, but the good kind. For lighter palates, the Catfish Origin delivered blackened spice on fluffy rice with rich etouffee, while the New York Strip satisfied with its spice kick and perfectly cooked potatoes. Lastly, the Mardi Gras Pasta! The penne was bursting with succulent shrimp, smoky andouille, and blackened chicken, all cloaked in a heavenly house-made cream sauce. Special thanks to Braylon and Adam for accommodating us on Super Bowl Sunday.

2nd visit for drinks was delightful. Todd Key gave us great tips on touring the city. He was so very friendly and personable!

Food was really good, our server was sweet, sadly we were a table of two with only a handful of people in the restaurant on lunch break and our orders were raw or seared tuna entrees so the timing on these usually are not typically to long but we waited well over 30 mins for both with only us as a table and 3 to go orders waiting. Atmosphere was adorable, service was great. Management and another server seamed a little lost or fairly new, maybe in time things will vibe more and they will get on their toes ! Menu selection looks really good and presentation of food and freshness was on point. Only 3 stars for the wait, price point runs a little high it is more of an up scale venue so that's to be expected . I give five stars for my server doing the most to step in to make up for any disappointment that was noted. Give it a shot at least once for sure everyone should get their own opinion it's an adorable little place.

Amazing food, plain ambience, very slow service, even with one patron in the lobby. For good food, I will wait.

It's Simple as the name suggests…read more Nothing fancy or elaborate about this place. It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.

We were able to be seated as walk-ins on Presidents Day morning, although the place was absolutely packed. The service here was warm and the food came out moderately quick. This place feels like one of those higher end casual spots, definitely a step above IHOP, but not quite First Watch. We ordered a bunch of things so we'll break it down one by one: Pancakes with bacon - a bit of a letdown. Pancakes had no real flavor and the bacon was good, not great. Beignets - pretty good. Better than some we've had for sure, a nice sweet and doughy treat. French toast bites - very delicious. Came with a nice, sweet dipping sauce that really brought it home. Fried catfish & grits - hit and a miss. The catfish was delicious and lightly battered, the grits were very heavy and buttery which didn't go well with the catfish. It does also come with a biscuit that was light and buttery. Creamy vanilla iced coffee - good. Nothing too special, definitely better than a chain like Starbucks, that's for sure. It had a nice sweetness to it. Altogether, Ruby Slipper is a decent breakfast spot. Nothing we ate really hit it out of the park, but we were satisfied with our meal. It really seems like a local favorite spot and one that feels convenient to hit coming and going from NOLA. If you're looking for quick, convenient, and moderately cheap, this is the spot you're searching for.

A few weeks ago I was in town for a hockey game and in need of some refreshments pre-game. This was the perfect spot. It was a little rainy so a large portion of the place was unusable. In better weather the courtyard would've been a nice place to sit. There are many non courtyard tables and that's where we found ourselves.
