I live in Atlanta but like to go here when I visit Baton Rouge. I've always been happy with the food and service. It's always pretty busy which I like when visiting a Mexican restaurant. I absolutely love this establishment. My go to was always the enchiladas suizas. They are packed with most grilled chicken. Topped with a nice portion of sour cream and we get lettuce and tomatoes. I always pair it with a salad and a cup of the chicken tortilla soup. The soup is good I love that they keep the big chunks of veggies. I recently was able to try the mesquite grilled pork chop and I have a new favorite! The pork chops is very moist, cooked perfectly and flavorful! I love the portions of veggies again with the larger chunks. It was plenty to eat I had leftovers. Back in May I went for cinco de mayo our server Elvis I believe he was wonderful. Exceptional standard Tex-Mex fair. Coming from someone who lived in Austin and surrounding areas for most of my adult life, that is saying a lot. I had some kind of seafood enchiladas that were absolutely scrumptious. The margaritas were I believe available as the non-neon kind with real juice, which was nice. Even though I can't drink anymore, the ones I tasted back in the day were really good. I'm sure they could make a good virgin Margarita, if I asked them too. Apparently everyone and their mother goes here on Sundays! I had no clue it would be so busy in there. I went wanting to try the Tres Leches martini from their collab with Caroline's Cookies, but unfortunately they didn't have it. I tried their pinto pechuga from the lunch specials, sooo good! The pechuga sauce is so flavorful and everything was super hot and fresh. Also tried the midcity hash from the brunch menu, also super flavorful and good. But the true STAR of the show absolutely has to be the french toast! Literally nothing prepared me for how delicious it was, it's like they add some sort of cinnamon sugar to it or something. Horrible experience! Overcharged. Server argued $8.50 for one soda was right. He thought we had 2. Ticket wrong. We had other people's food on our ticket. Missing food. My portions were small. The wait time is always touch and go, but with the bar staff being so quick and attentive to us, we were able to grab a drink and wait outside, but not for long. My friend got the skirt steak fajitas and gave me a taste of the meat -- it was excellent, very tender and flavorful. I got the chilaquiles. They were decent, but I would not order them again. i'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 only because the servers are so very nice. walking in, i smelled the vague scent of stale cigarettes, which i assume is from the patrons. no judgment, just an observation. the food was shockingly mediocre. the guacamole was good but over $15 for a "half" serving is wild. the fries were great. the taco shell for a "hard taco" was from a pre-manufactured bag, which is bizarre. it's pretty easy to make a taco shell if you have tortillas. speaking of, the tortilla was weird and i can't really put my finger on what was wrong but it wasn't what i'm accustomed to. i dunno, we found the food to be pretty bad BUT they're extremely busy and locals love them. maybe don't go in expecting top-tier mexican food. expect kind service, rustic ambiance, and expensive dishes that hint at mexican roots. read more

The service was great at this Superior Grill location. Our waiter kept checking up on us and our food only took about 15 mins to come out. The chips and salsa are very delicious as well. The chips are nice and thin and the salsa has a little kick of spice to it. The taco salad is my personal favorite. I shared it with my mom since it is a big portion. The ranch dressing compliments nicely with the taco salad. The ambiance is nice and fits the vibes of an authentic Mexican restaurant. I ordered to go, re received styrofoam cup margarita at the bar after telling the bartender I was eating il. Everyone else I saw prior to and after me received an actual bar glass. Btw a 20 oz fast food cup of house margarita is $17.50. Maybe an off night for them, we all have them, but this is a a joke lol. I got the tres dip to snack on while I waited for my carryout order. Three ramekins: one bean dip sitting out so long the cheese had hardened into a rock, a pechuga salsa, an unsavory color of brown, and a guacamole I didn't ask for ($3 upcharge, y'all) instead of queso that it specifically comes with in the menu. Cold, stale chips. Queso was tasty though! This place isn't worth the effort to continue typing. Here is how I would describe Superior. Packed with people, overpriced, loud, and good food. This place is incredibly popular. I have never been here when it wasn't packed. They do have a parking lot but it too is always packed. The bar is packed. The restaurant is packed. It is crazy how many people go here. So if it is always packed and overpriced, why have I been here several times? This is the go-to place for our large group during training twice a year. It is like a tradition. A tradition where I am the designated driver and everyone else drinks copious amounts of margaritas. Yay. I mean, it is pretty fun especially when you're the sober one and they are shithammered. Especially when someone ends up with a sombrero for their birthday and it isn't even their birthday. The food is good to very good. It is overpriced. I think my last order of fajitas was around $25. I don't know what kind of food costs Superior has but I think that was about $8-10 bucks too high. A relatively small order of fajitas for more than $30 with tax and tip seems excessive. I couldn't imagine what the drunks chugging down margaritas paid for their bill. Will I be back? Of course. April is the next big training and I am sure I will be here, sober, and making fun of the drunks. read more

I've never really big a huge Superior fan, but people tend to like it and they do well with groups. First, be ready to spend a penny or two because they are very proud of their food, and they seem to get more proud by the day. I have learned to settle on just the tortilla soup and that's enough food for me. It's filling and tasty. I feel like everything else tastes the same. (I have heard I should try the burger, though.) I chose to give an average rating based on my latest experience, but keeping in mind my usual experience. A couple of friends and I decided to grab brunch there on a rainy Sunday morning. The restaurant is doing well with social distancing, it was clean, and the servers wear their masks. Our server was super friendly and made sure we got our food really quickly. The salsa could use a shot of heat, so ask the waiter for a bottle of Cholula and you're good to go. The pico de gallo is also devoid of heat, but is loaded with cilantro (deee-licious). Rice and refried beans are good, standard examples of what you would expect. The veggie fajitas are really great. (If going vegetarian was like this every day, we'd all do it.). Not just the standard squash and broccoli (actually, there was very little broccoli contaminating this plate), but tomato, red bell peppers, mushrooms, asparagus, and corn on the cob were all mixed in there with the standard squash, zucchini, green bell peppers, and onions. Almost every visit here has been disappointing, so I am urging you to avoid this place. When I have gone, the Tex-Mex is bland food. It's Tex-Mex made safe for white people. The food is boring, and there are times when this place needlessly complicates its food by adding creol/cajun versions of Mexican food that do not even mesh with the flavor profiles of Tex-Mex/Mexican. The redeeming thing about this place is the bar. It has wonderful margaritas, and you can get sloshed very easily here. I imagine the bar convinces people that their mediocre to trash food is edible. I was very disappointed when I got my utensils out my napkin and had guacamole on my spoon and fork. The workers need to be more careful when they are fixing the utensils. The waiter took them and went get me another set. This time they were clean. We ordered the Superior Dipping Trio and it was delicious. It was very loud inside the restaurant.
