This is a charming coffeehouse that feels like you're sitting in a friend's home. I will always order housemade pop tarts whenever and wherever and these were thick, flaky, and terrific. Magpie has the one of best selections of Weck around. Today they also had a very cute selection of petite plants that would be perfect in a terrarium. There are options for dining inside or out. Overall good vibes. The outdoor and indoor areas are equally as cute in their own way. Very clean! The barista was very sweet and smiley. I got a mocha with oat milk that I drank way too fast. They've got lots of vegan and gluten free bites in their cooler when you walk in. My favorite coffee shop in BR. Magpie is intimate but bright with lots of windows and indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is attentive, pleasant, and helpful. Super good vibes overall. The coffee is amazing, and they have rotating pastries that are all conscious of dietary restrictions, creative, and tasty. Today, I got the iced matcha with a shot of lavender--it's my go to (and was originally a recommendation from the staff). It's not to sweet, flavorful, and with enough caffeine to keep me going. I also got the oatmeal raisin pecan scone with maple glaze (chewy yet crumbly and the raisins were a good touch) and and the lemon blueberry bread (a great combo with strong flavors--one of my favorites but a little sweet). The breads are consistently amazing, as well as the muffins if you're looking for a snack. Highly recommend for just popping in for a coffee or going in for a long term study session. read more

This location had a more laid back coffeehouse vibe. There are quite a few tables inside and outside, it's seat yourself, and you just order up front at the counter. The coffee was good, ordered a latte. The waffle I got was pretty bland, but the jam served with it gave it a bit more flavor. The quiche lorraine was so good though! Try it out of you stop by or the avocado toast. It can get pretty crowded on the weekend so there may be limited or no seating. Probably not the best spot for large groups. read more

They will make you feel at home and give great drink suggestions. I can't comment on their actual food, but I'm a fan of their baked goods (keto and vegan friendly items!) and coffee. There's free, fast Wi-fi, outlets/extensions, gender-specific restrooms, very friendly and knowledgeable service, and an outdoor seating area. The only cons are the limited parking (but there's always parking if you don't mind walking a bit), and it can get a little loud and crowded. Prices are a little higher than I'd like, around Starbucks prices, but I don't mind paying more for these healthier and local options. Overall, I'm definitely a fan of Magpie! read more

During my Louisiana book-signing trip, I took a day to go to Baton Rouge. I stopped off at this little cafe for a snack and coffee. I always plan my stops out in advance of traveling as I need to make sure gluten-free options are available and the reviewers always review the hidden gems. This quaint and cozy cafe is definitely one of those gems. Dorothy took my order at the counter, and she was friendly and had more than one gluten-free snack to offer. I actually got to order a piece of Paleo coffee cake and it was to die for! I haven't been able to get a coffee cake out in, literally, years. This was moist and topped with pecans...plenty of cinnamon spice. I also got an Americano, and I can tell you that their coffee is superb. I got my order to go, but there were lots of little tables inside at which to sit. I regret I didn't take my phone inside to snap a few inside pictures because the inside was just so cute. If you want a great cup of coffee stop here! Gluten-free but wishing for a treat...they have you covered. Highly recommend and would stop in again...and again! read more
