I grabbed an espresso shot and cinnamon roll to stay and an iced matcha latte to go. The espresso was nicely dialed in, the notes were present and the barista served it wonderfully. I wanted to try something different and a quick search brought me to Coffee Joy. It's been on my must try list for a while so I'm glad I made time for it today. The building is located in like a strip area where several other businesses are but you can't miss it. The inside is nice, super clean and inviting. There are areas to sit and enjoy the menu items or you can get it to go. The cashier was very nice and greeted me as I was walking up to the counter to order. They offer various styles/flavors of coffee and teas along with fruit bowls and desserts like cinnamon rolls, muffins, croissants and other bakery items that pair well with coffee. I decided to try the Turkish coffee with a house made cinnamon roll. The Turkish coffee was prepared at the table. It was similar to Cuban and or Ugandan coffee just not as strong. I did try it without any honey or cream and it was delicious. The cinnamon roll was fresh be not too sweet and just the right amount of frosting for a homemade cinnamon roll. It was light and airy and a nice companion to the coffee. The prices are pretty reasonable, whereas I paid nine dollars for a cup of Turkish coffee and a cinnamon roll. This hidden gem is worth discovery, especially if you are looking for coffee that is not as commercialize as some of the larger franchise companies throughout the area. read more

So far, best coffee I've had in Baton Rouge. My drink (cafe au lait) was served hot and fresh. I also love the atmosphere of the shop. The front windows let in lots of natural light and the snake plants and pothos are also a nice touch. They also play soft jazz music which makes the atmosphere even more relaxing and inviting. I'm doing all I can to turn into one of those pretentious coffee snobs, so I have been making an effort to go to all the coffee shops in Baton Rouge to practice being a pretentious dingbat.I went to Coffee Joy ready to rant about textured foam caps and "earthy chocolate notes" or whatever, but the minute I sipped my cappuccino, all that BS leaked out of my ear holes. This place is so good and joyful. The espresso is great, the shop is cozy and quiet, and they nail the presentation. The dude behind the counter is always nice and quick. My biggest gripe is location, as I hate their parking lot and trying to maneuver around Perkins. The last time I visited, they had a flyer for a lamp making workshop they were hosting. This is such a cute spot! The one I frequent is close to Trader Joe's. I'm not much of a coffee drinker so I stick to the teas. Their tea selection is so good for a coffee shop. It also comes in the steeping glass so you get several cups from one order. It's also all loose leaf which I love. Their mango smoothie is also amazing. After a little online recon of this business, I ascertained the owner is Turkish. Therefore, I ordered off-menu Turkish Coffee. If you've never had Turkish coffee, it's an experience guaranteed to send you bouncing off walls and dancing with its high caffeine content in a concentrated boost. Many get it with honey to soften the strength. Not me. I like flavor. This Turkish coffee is 100% authentic and perfectly prepared, the likes of which you're lucky to find anywhere outside of Turkey. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't bitter. The owner knows his coffee craft and is exceptional at producing perfect coffee. What a cute, quaint little coffee shop. It was really comfortable and inviting. I'll definitely be coming back again, to try different coffees and pastries that look amazing! The service was fantastic. But for the main event--the coffee. I had a dirty chai latte. It was super cute (don't think you'll get this kind of personal touch at a chain coffee shop). We were passing through Baton Rouge and searched for a place to stop for really good espresso. Coffee Joy popped up with some of the best reviews and now we know why. First, our barista (we wish we got her name!) was wonderfully kind, hospitable, and adept at her craft. Our lattes were so good, my husband ordered a second one to warm up later. The person that waited on me told me that the barista is from Turkey and has lived in Kenya - he has learned a lot about coffee along the way. Didn't eat inside but he said they go above and beyond on the presentation. Others have told me the same. I got a Latte and blueberry muffin to go. Be advised that their muffins are normal sized muffins - If you need something to tide you over, order two. There is a outdoor seating area. Both employees were wearing masks. Cute little coffee place right on Perkins. There's plenty of parking available! Beautiful string lights line the ceiling. Beautiful brick wall on one side. The food menu is hand-drawn by one of the workers on a cute chalk board! The ladies at the front desk were so nice. They offered a sample of the syrup prior to ordering. Can't remember the name of the syrup... think it was called anderberry. It was a very floral tasting syrup with hints of citrus flavor sort of similar to the taste of lychee if I had to pick something to describe it. It's pretty strong alone but not overpowering in a hot latte. The latte came out quick, nice and hot! Tasted delicious as well! There's ample seating, so you can bring a party of 4 and sit and chat comfortably for a while. There's also seating outside in the front of the shop. It was extremely quiet when I went. The coffee here is excellent and they have ax decent amount of syrups, which is one of my things. I usually get an Americano with 1 inch half-and-half with the syrup of the day. So yummy and cheaper than an late, with less calories and it's a cross between a latte and coffee. Perfection. With a neighborhood that loves coffee so much you may wonder if there's space for another shop and I'd like to argue - of course there's room! The coffee is delicious and the service is the extremely kind. You can tell the owners are very excited about their products and just genuinely love coffee (thus the name). They offer all the classics - lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, frappes, etc. They also offer a unique selection of pour overs and single brew methods, such as siphon and chemex. They intend to add Turkish coffee to the menu as well. Interiors are cozy, clean and modern. Coffee Joy is probably my favorite coffee shop now in Baton Rouge and I've been to all the spots near LSU and Garden District. The pricing is on the slightly higher side but on par with spots around and the barista there seems to care a lot about how the drinks are prepared with a multitude of preparation options to choose from. The interior is tastefully decorated and there are two tables outside which we felt more comfortable using. Inside, the place was absolutely packed on a Monday afternoon around 2:30 pm so it was not really an option to stay inside. I thought my iced apple chai cider was a good amount and quite tasty with light sweetness. We were pleased to see that the iced latte used coffee cubes to prevent it from watering down. The place is a bit small so it gets noisy pretty easily so it's not a good study environment. It is a nice ambiance to catch up with a friend. We were impressed by the in house dessert options and I was pleased to see a solid variety of tea options as I prefer tea to coffee. When asking, the barista mentioned how the coffee is fair trade, generally locally sourced, and is freshly ground - no older than a week. He seemed passionate about his craft and eager to let me experience the tea blends so I am happy to keep coming back with others to fill out that punchcard. read more

Stumbled on this coffee shop while thrifting next door and I am so happy I did. I got an americano with steamed almond milk and caramel syrup to go. Let me tell y'all when I got into my car and pulled off the lid to see that beautiful crema I was so excited. I was excited to drink this coffee till the last drop. The place is a little smaller for my liking to sit and do work in, but when I went on a Friday afternoon there wasn't that many people. All I can say is this is a must stop. Like you have to come here it's amazing. Some of the best coffee I have on the road trip back home. I got the citrus green seasonal ice tea and it was perfect. It had the right amount of ice and also bonus points for being in a cute mason jar. The cold brew was stunning and came with coffee ice cubes!How amazing is that! No water downed cold brew! It was a very modern place with reasonable prices. The bagels where homemade and chewy deliciousness. Also presentation is 10/10 very cute. The cinnamon roll was a gooey warm dream. It was was pretty empty inside the shop... only a few people seated inside. The space was not huge; however, I did appreciate the spacing between the tables. As soon as I walked up to the counter, I was helped with my order. I knew right away that I wanted an Americano, but needed a moment to decide on what lovely pastries to go home with. It was obvious that everything was homemade. For the past couple months, I had been admiring the Yelp and Instagram photos that were shared about this business and thought I was set on making my decision (before I even came in). Everything look so delicious. To quickly get my brain out of such a quandry, I chose the apple pie tart and the cookie. There were so many lovely treats for purchase, so the decision was hard. Customer service was wonderful and my order was taken care of so swiftly. I could hardly wait to get home to enjoy my breakfast. When I saw there was a new coffee shop, I had to go and check it out! I ordered a latte with oat milk and grabbed a chocolate chip muffin to eat on my way to work. The espresso has a good, strong flavor and I really liked the space. The muffin was not bad, but I regret not getting the bagel ($1.50 and looked pretty tasty). It's very clean and neat, and the service is fast and friendly. Honestly, it's pretty standard for a coffee shop (although they have some cool pastries) and I hope they continue to grow and maybe even do something that sets them apart from other great coffee shops in BR.
