First time I've gotten something from this location. Besides me there was only two other people sitting at a table when I walked in. The place was really nice and quiet because of the time I went there (11am on a Sunday) so it was very calming. I ordered a cinnamon roll and an Iced Chai Latte (with no ice) and honestly, the cinnamon roll was amazing, but for me the Chai Latte was a little too strong. Of course, it wasn't until after the fact I noticed that I could have gotten cold foam, which I think would have made it better, I guess that is for next time. read more

Each time I visit PJ'S I am greeted by friendly baristas. The coffee is awesome as well as their turkey sausage breakfast sandwich. I love the New Orkeans location on Veteran's just outside of Lakeview when visiting my daughter. I am partial to the Denham Springs location. I live in Central, so not too far to travel. As my companion pointed out, it's the sort of place that's in the first floor of a condo unit, just because the owner wants to list it as an amenity - nice, but not worth going out of the way for. Breakfast sandwiches (sausage and egg, might've been cheese too, on English muffin) and chocolate muffins seemed to be microwaved and kind of dry and boring. I would've preferred having the bread toasted. Coffee drinks were fine; add-in flavors were the artificial-flavor sort in the big pump bottles. PJs is one of Downtown's original coffee shops. This coffee company started out in New Orleans, so it is Louisiana-local. They are conveniently located at the corner of Convention and Lafayette Streets, right by the beautiful Lafayette Park. They are by the Shaw Center for the Arts, and two quality hotels. They are near it all downtown! Coffee and teas are the main attraction of course. I love their lattes year round, and in summer there are the beautiful velvet ices and iced coffees. I like to check out the rotating specials, which often are interesting and different. Last time I visited they were featuring honey lavender drinks, which make a most excellent velvet ice. They always have some nice baked goods on hand, from savory to sweet. There are also some other nice snacks on hand. My personal favorite is the dark chocolate covered espresso beans! The interior is cozy, and has a great view of the outdoors. There is a small courtyard outside with outdoor tables, but I think if one wants to be outdoors the Shaw Center Courtyard or Lafayette Park are the places to be. read more

This was an excellent coffee shop! I got the green tea tropical with cantaloupe syrup and mojito syrup. Let me tell you, this was the best drink I have ever had. I also got a macaroon. Yummmmmmm! The service was excellent. The lady at the desk told me about the sweetener she used which I ended up getting. She was so right. This was one of the nicest waitresses I have ever met. I have loved PJ's coffee in New Orleans and here is no exception. They have good coffee beans and a wide variety of syrups. I love to have a God Cafe Americana with added syrup and half and half. Came in to smiles from the barista and even another patron. I had a Grenada, which was fine. It was sweet, similar to a McDonalds type coffee. There were plenty of outlets and the window looked out to the street where you can people watch--a good atmosphere! I stayed for hours and was quite comfortable. They even had chargers for sale! (No iPhone lightning cables though) I saw someone in a past review mention they had to pay for an internet card.. not the case anymore I don't think, as I asked and I was just handed the card with a password on it. This PJ's Coffee is a no for me. I popped in to this location across from Hotel Indigo to use the internet for 10 minutes. My Yelp reviews confirm that I'm not one of those people who sits in a coffee shop for hours without buying anything. Frankly, it's because I can't resist sweets for long that I always order something. I walked in planning to buy an iced coffee and pastry in exchange for a few minutes of wifi use. When I asked the barista for their code she told me that I had to buy a $3 internet card first. Perhaps I've been sheltered but I've never visited a coffee shop that required me to buy internet the moment I walk in the door. Changing wifi codes to secure additional purchases and limiting bandwidth...yes. Buying internet in minute one...no. I can see if I wanted to camp out all day but I just needed a few minutes and I was going to buy something to eat. Key word WAS. After that exchange I bought the internet card, quickly checked my email and left. The other thing I found strange were the NOLA themed t-shirts for sale. Perfect for a coffee shop in New Orleans. But this café is less than one mile from the state capitol building...in Baton Rouge. Would it be so hard to sell local items at this location? My visit left me feeling that PJ's is out of touch with the community it serves. I also didn't get a sit and stay awhile vibe from this coffee shop so I definitely won't return. read more

Visited morning of April 15, there appeared to be some sort of internal company dispute. There was a couple outside talking to security guard and the couple said to me "Don't go in there it's a mess with an ex-employee." There was no mess, at least not physical mess. I could tell the lady behind the counter was flustered. While inside I place my order, the employee was polite, professional and quick in serving me. The uncomfortable experience continued when a third security guard showed up and advised the employee to leave the premises as she was disturbing the peace. I didn't witness or experience her disturbing the peace, rather the couple outside of the shop causing disruption. read more

SO...I don't usually go to a PJ's but this was across from the Hotel Indigo where I stayed for the night. Lots of windows and small tables as well as some comfy chairs with little desks attached welcome you into this space. This PJs is stacked with all sorts of pastries, bagels, gum (hello to the girl who forgot toothpaste), as well as a breakfast and lunch menu AND Zapp's potato chips! I would rarely give a chain coffee shop this many stars, but the guy working the counter (tall, curly brown hair) is a rockstar at his job, like seriously a rockstar. I've been in this coffee shop for maybe an hour and he is killing it with orders, making sure to ask if people want the drip coffee or espresso (which none of the other PJs do, and I end up not getting the kind of mocha I really want), chatting up his regulars while making their usuals, and keeping things clean while having a great attitude about it. Hold on to this one, PJ's on Lafayette. They have seating outside, and my only mini complaint is that people can smoke out there so not sure how crazy I'd be about that, but it's a very pretty area. The bathroom is unisex but really clean. I could definitely work here during the day if I lived in BR and had downtown meetings. read more

Because of the "rush" of the three people who entered after me and the one employee, I waited for some time for my sandwich which I assume was being microwaved in the back based on the toughness of the bacon included in said sando. The mocha didn't fair much better... The base they use was terrible and I'm pretty certain that it wasn't the triple that I ordered. Needless to say this was my one and only trip to PJs. I bit the bullet and tried it considering it was the only place I saw but I should have listened to the screams of disappointment on yelp! Having just had a wedding cake iced coffee at the PJ's location in Elmwood a few days ago, I was expecting a similar drink despite the reviews for this location stating otherwise. Free internet and great pastries! The atmosphere downtown is cool- situated in the midst of a metropolizing scene. The espresso drinks are also a strong point for this local Louisiana chain. I must admit that the one downtown has really bad service. You have to knock on the kitchen door for someone to serve you a cup of coffee. When you finally do get service, you are usually greeted by some high school graduates who have bad attitudes and and no desire at all to make you a quality cup of joe. The lone barista was really interested in shutting down, though we were half a hour from closing time. He had already started cleaning the equipment, so couldn't make the drinks I first asked about. He moved furniture in front of the bathroom and made it difficult for my husband to reach it. We finally left when he turned on the vacuum cleaner! Ambience: typical chain coffee shop.
