Omg YUM. I had never been to this campus before so took me a few minutes to find the entrance. You can try the different soft serves and then customize it to your liking. There are many toppings to choose from as well as filling for your waffle. I will definitely be back!
This a two of one review! I've visited Sweet Society twice and it's a cute little shop to drop in on a hot day. They have Japanese desserts and soft serve ice cream. This shop is cute, not very big. They have a cute little nook you can sit in and watch music videos. The staff is quick to take your order, the menu only has 4 flavors. They feature two dairy free flavors too, which I love for us lactose-intolerant! I ordered pomegranate/watermelon dairy-free soft serve with a taiyaki - a fish-shaped waffle cone. You can choose your filling for the taiyaki, I chose the Nutella. The first time i had it, the waffle was warm and Nutella melted in my bite! So good and yummy. I will say it took a little while, over 15 minutes, to get be ready. The second time I visited I ordered the same thing. We were the only patrons at the time and the order took just as long again. This time the waffle was cold and hard. I really disappointed because I told my husband how good it was the first time. I think this place is great, but they need work on the turnaround time for the taiyaki and preparing the orders. It takes too long just for a soft serve that's already prepared.
I Loveee Sweet Society. I've been coming here for a few years now when I want a sweet treat or my favorite drink (strawberry cosmic lemonade with lychee jelly!). The service is always great. They even let you taste the ice cream flavors to help you decide. I like the changing flavors of ice cream because it's always something new to try. Ube is my favorite by far when they have it. The dole lemonade floats are so refreshing on hot summer days. The inside is cute with an area for a photo op. The outside is a nice option on pretty days as it is located in Electric Depot, so there is a good amount of open area with seats outside.
A very welcome addition to the BR food scene! I had the Hokkaido cream/cherry cream swirl and a custard taiyaki and both were very tasty. If I go back I'll get the bingsu. I've had similar desserts in Houston's Chinatown and it's nice to have a much closer option now.
I've been to sweet society multiple times since their first opening, and I love it every time! It can take a second for your order to come out because it's being prepared fresh, but it's worth the wait. I always get a custard filled taiyaki and whatever soft serve offering I top with rainbow sprinkles. The shop is small and if there's around 2 other groups it can get loud and congested. Other than that it's a great place!!
Absolutely love sweet society! This was my first visit and they were very patient explaining my options. I ordered the ube taiyaki which they made fresh and was absolutely delish! The pastry was cooked perfectly with a little crispy and creamy custard filling. Love the atmosphere. Little area to eat in the shop and nice outside area with benches that are perfect for a good weather day.
Loved this dessert. The ice cream was delicious! I loved the ube and milk tea swirl. The custard creme was the way to go. I definitely want to come back! Also if you have dinner at Boru ramen next door and bring your receipt you can get 10% off your sweet society order! Perfect dinner and dessert combo
This place is so good! If you are missing the dole whip sold in Walt Disney World, the pineapple dole sold here will definitely satisfy your craving. It isn't always on the menu so make sure to check before coming. They usually post their flavors of the week on their Instagram. I've never had a flavor here that I didn't like. The inside of this place is super cute but very small. Service is always great.
The ice cream was very good and sweet but something I didn't like was how they changed their flavors every now and then. Other than that my experience was excellent! It was a cute little shop with treats and goodies to buy. Definitely recommend.
My sister-in-law told me about BINGSU as she had recently tried it at an ice cream sweet shop in New Orleans. Discovered there was a place that offered it here in Baton Rouge named 'Sweet Society' and decided to try them out. 'Sweet Society' is located in a converted industrial building called the 'Electric Depot' on Government Boulevard. I did not even know this building existed as I don't go toward downtown often. Fair warning for anyone that wants to check out the sweet shop and or other businesses in this complex, many of them only open after 5:00 p.m. I think many are closed on Mondays as well. Please check their website before hitting the road. As to the BINGSU... For those of you who did not know (I didn't until recently), it's an ice cream treat made with a special machine that shaves the ice in such a way that it comes out in very tiny flakes. Think of a dessert that is a marriage of ice cream and snowball - the latter being a true wintertime SNOWball. Its consistency is very flaky and airy. The BINGSU has thiis flaky shaved ice cream at the bottom of the cup layered with fruit puree, then fresh fruit on top and whipped cream. Mine also had some tiny tapioca marshmallows at the bottom which added some chewy texture to it. OK - so did I love it, not really. It was nice, and I enjoyed it, but I would not say that I LIVED it. But I have to admit upfront that ice cream is not my craving when I think of wanting something sweet. It really doesn't matter what type of form it takes, I'm just not an ice cream aficionado. With that said I really enjoyed the airiness and lightness of this variation being that it was shaved and not heavy like traditional ice cream. I just like trying new things, and it was definitely unique. I originally wanted to get the mango version, but they were out of mango puree - so I opted for the strawberry BINGSU instead. I enjoyed it, but wish that 'Sweet Society' offered a smaller cup size. I kept the bottled water in the picture so you had some kind of size reference. They only sell one size for $9.50 and it was HUGE!!! If you're going there and sharing one cup between two people it would be perfect, but for one person it was just too much and I really couldn't finish it. Okay... if you're an absolute ice cream lover, maybe you would have finished the entire cup. But for me it was just overkill size-wise. 'Sweet Society' also offers some 'non-Bingsu' dairy treats. I saw a young man eating a soft serve UBE flavored ice cream cup that looked delicious, he confirmed It was fairy tasty and served in a normal size ice cream cup . I've heard about UBE before, it's a purple sweet potato type vegetable used in Asian sweets, and I'll definitely go back to give that a try. 'Sweet Society' shares a common interior hall and public bathrooms in the same 'Electric Depot' building alongside a ramen restaurant, but unfortunately I was there earlier in the day and the ramen restaurant didn't open until after 5:00 p.m. I look forward to going back to trying their Ramen and then maybe some Ube ice cream next door.
I love this place! It's one of my favorite ice cream stores in the city so would 10/10 recommend. They do seem to be short-staffed so sometimes orders might take a second, but I swear it's worth it. It's connected to the ramen place, Boru, so it's an awesome after dinner treat. From what I've noticed, they always* have the ube and milk ice cream but they'll have two other rotating flavours, not sure if it's monthly or every few weeks. This week they actually had a vegan flavor, but didn't get to try it. My friends and I are also obsessed with the mango Bingsu. It's such a generous serving that we usually share it among three! It's such a fun little store, and with the kpop music videos playing in the background, you're sure to let the time pass by...
LOVE!!! The strawberry & pineapple dole whip!!! I'm usually not a fan of ice creams that are more milky/ creamy so this was perfect for me! I have gone here multiple times and I always add their fish pastry to my ice cream! The staff is always very friendly and it is decorated very nicely!
Found this place on yelp and the atmosphere was so nice and cute! They had cat figures everywhere lol. I'm not a big ice cream person so I got the strawberry comic? lemonade. It was so refreshing!! Fiancé got the purple obe I cream. Taste like vanilla. The fish waffle wafer taste so good and was filled with cream. This place is a hidden gem!! The service was great as well. Great, sweet workers. This was our first time visiting and our cashier took time to explain the menu to us even with a long line.
Every visit to Sweet Society fills me with such joy! The inside is aesthetically pleasing (for all you photo takers) and extremly clean. The staff are very friendly and will help you navigate through the menu if you need any help! The front of the store is also stocked with fun and yummy asian snacks and plushies haha so make sure to bring your wallet when you come!! So enough about the inside and staff, the food is PHENOMENAL! I have such a sweet tooth it's not even funny. My fav taiyaki pocket filling are the chocolate and the custard ones and everytime I visit, they're cooked the same, so I can go in expecting to bite into a crispy outside layer and a warm, fluffy layer inside. The ube ice cream is def one of my favs there as well. It's not overly sweet (even my friend who isn't a fan of sweets loved it!) and has such a smooth texture. The fruit lemonade is both pretty to look at and very refreshing to drink. I love drinking this while studying!! If you're lactose intolerant, don't worry, Sweet Society has you covered too! They have lactose free ice cream and bingsu! I have yet to try the bingsu, so it's def something that I will be trying during my next visit. Also, if you're a Kpop stan, this is the place for you. They play Kpop all day (I love ittt) and even have cute little fan events! read more
Although the prices are a bit steep, the portion sizes are quite hefty and I'm convinced that this place exists solely to fulfill my nostalgic cravings for Korean deserts They have an amazing bingsu selection that includes mango, strawberry, watermelon, and oreo flavors. And fish-shaped taiyaki or bunggeobang pastries that feature custard or red bean filling--warm and sweet with a crispy exterior. The ube cookies were the only items that didn't blow my mind as the ube flavor was lost amongst the food coloring and white chocolate chips. The ube ice cream however was solid, with a mild and lightly sweet earthy flavor similar to taro or matcha. 8/10 recommend especially if you've never had bingsu or ube. My favorite was definitely the fish-shaped pastries, a very impressive replication of the Asian street snacks sold in the wintertime. read more
I finally got to try this place and I am so happy I got to catch them before they close this location! We came here for the White Light Night so service was a little slower than what I can imagine is normal for them, but it is such a wonderful experience inside the store that we didn't mind waiting for our food and treats! It has such a magical inside and I just loved it. It's a wonderful place to hang out and chat with friends or family! The rose milk tea was not my favorite but it was alright. I also got a custard stuffed taiyoki that isn't pictured and it was DELICIOUS just watch out for hot custard burns! read more

Cute intimate spot for a date. This particular day they had the Ube and milk flavored ice cream and they were ok they kind of both just taste like milk. We had a couple issues first because they got our orders mixed up. The service was ok when we told the young lady at the register that it was our first time she gave a run down on their "most popular" item but that was it and we saw some other customers with something that caught our eyes and was kind of disappointed because we didn't know about it. The Sweet Society is an Asian-inspired dessert place located in the central courtyard of the Electric Depot on Government Street. It can be accessed from its entrance to the courtyard, or from a hallway in the rear of Boru Ramen. This is a deliciously different dessert establishment! They have wonderful frozen selections, my current favorite is the purple yam! They have about four flavors per day, so you can mix it up from one visit to the next. These frozen treats can be best served (IMO) with a crunchy freshly made fish-shaped filled cone, and toppings. Another delightful frozen dessert is the Bingsu, which is a base of finely shaved ice, covered in fruit and fruit syrup, then topped with whipped cream. My current favorite is Mango, but the Strawberry version is a very beautiful and tasty choice. In addition to these frozen desserts, there are a selection of grab-and-go Asian snacks on the wall. There are some interesting choices here! A tip to save a little money is to show your receipt from eating at the adjacent Boru Ramen, you get a discount on your purchase. This makes a Boru/Sweet Society joint visit a great combination! read more

It's a good thing I don't live in Baton Rouge because i would come here way too often! Tried the ube and milk combo soft serve swirl and it was such a dream! The texture was perfect and just melted in your mouth. The flavor was exactly as you would imagine ube, and paired with the milk flavor was lovely. My friend went for the honeydew and strawberry which was great as well. The honeydew literally tasted exactly like honeydew melon!! Love the fish cone they have, and how you can add a cute topping on top. I added some pocky sticks. Will definitely be coming back to try their other flavors. The interior was full of instagrammable spots, including a swing with a lush plant background, as well as a huge fish cone wall on the another wall. The one thing I think they could improve on is to have their menu for people to see while they're in line. I had to wait till I was at the front to ask them what exactly was on the menu and having to do that made for a longer wait for everyone! read more
Such a cute shop! I loved the decor and ambiance. This is a great spot for all age groups. Also, the staff was really patient and helpful. I ordered the ube and pandan ice cream with mochi topping and a custard filled taiyaki. The custard had a very mild flavor. I would probably order a different taiyaki filling next time. I really enjoyed the ice cream. The server provided samples so we were able to pick our favorite flavors. My ice cream had a delicious and unique flavor. Fair warning: the ice cream melted really really fast. Overall, I had a great experience and I'd highly recommend giving Sweet Society a try. read more

Went to Sweet Society after dinner for the first time, i was very excited entering and the atmosphere seemed great, the restaurant itself was well kept and the cashier was very helpful when it came to helping me figure out what i wanted. i ordered the taiyaki--ice cream served in a fish-shaped waffle cone and decided to fill the waffle cone with custard. My ice-cream was strawberry mango flavored and i really enjoyed it! the waffle cone was great texture and flavor wise but i did not enjoy the custard filling and will definitely not include it in my order next time i go- the custard was definitely a personal preference, i had never had it before and wanted to give it a try. read more
So glad we finally checked out Sweet Society! I had heard about it and just wasn't familiar with what they had to offer. My advice is you must check it out! Not your typical ice cream experience and so worthy of your tastebuds. Our family of four went after Boru Ramen and what a great pair they were! We tried the ice cream and pockets and were amazed to see the pockets made right in front of us. They were warm, delicious, and melted in our mouth! I stuffed mine with Nutella enjoyed dipping it into my ice cream, but it was tough to not just devour it. Kind of like a waffle with ice cream but way more delicious. They also have a neat selection of Asian market candies/treats and boba drinks, so more reason for us to come back! read more

This place is super cute! The staff is always super sweet and helpful! They have bingsu (shaved ice with whipped cream and toppings) and taiyaki (soft served ice cream with a waffle fish and toppings). They sell cute little plushies and snacks as well on the right wall as you enter! We got mango bingsu and a couple of taiyaki. Love the taro flavor but the other flavors are yummy as well! read more

It's a great new spot in the electric depot. There's a wonderful blend of flavors and an amazing assortment choices. There's not much sitting in the building but plenty outside. The servers were so kind and friendly. They were willing to answer my 20 plus questions lol. This is a great spot to beat the heat. read more

I've been meaning to stop by when I visited BR for the holidays last year, but it never panned out. Fortunately, I was able to visit a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon. I remember the service being quick--we were able to get our ice cream taiyakis a few minutes after ordering. The staff was friendly and explained the menu to us. We ended up picking the ube-flavored ice cream and brown sugar one. They also provided options for fillings in the taiyakis (custard and red bean). There were several options for toppings. We chose pocky. Total came out to be ~$18. Overall, it was what I expected. The only feedback I have is they provide an option for the ice cream to be placed on top of the taiyaki with the taiyaki serving as the cone, instead of placing them both in a bowl. It would also be great if they had morning hours as well. read more
This is the cutest little ice cream shop! I like that they have revolving flavors so you never know what your options are until you get there. I would love for them to offer a few more flavors at a time though! The staff is very friendly and can recommend flavors for you if you're unsure of what to get. I took the employees recommendation and got a mixed bowl with a Nutella fish in it. I'm not 100% sure what flavors I got but they were soooooo yummy. I can't wait to come back and try more. They have a really cute selection of Japanese snacks for sale as well like pocky, etc. read more

This place is a nice to just hang out and catch up with friends over a drink or ice cream/ dole whip. It was pretty busy and it's not that big but we were able to get a seat. My drink was just okay maybe I didn't order the right one but it was hot outside so it served the purpose. I didn't get a picture of the pomegranate I believe it was dole whip it was good very light and flavorful. I'll go back to try something different. read more

I'm not sure why I haven't written a review for my fav dessert spot in BR?? Ever since the first time I stopped by, I have been hooked! I instantly felt welcomed during my first visit last year. The team was very kind and helped me go over the menu. Even provided samples for the ice cream! On top of that, the owner Kay is a gem. She was so sweet to me and so friendly. When I stopped back again a few weeks later, she remembered my name! I was so shocked because I know they see hundreds of customers in a day so it made a huge impact on me. I kept on coming! I'm obsessed with the Taiyaki pockets. I usually get the Nutella filled one since I have a big sweet tooth. The pocket itself isn't an overly sweet treat though. The batter is delicious. It reminds me of a waffle in a way -- it's truly yummy enough to eat plain. Along with the pockets, I love how they alternate ice cream flavors. My personal favorite was the Ube (purple) and pandan (green) flavors swirled. The inside is also so cute! There's a photo op in every corner. If you're on the fence or want to change up your usual dessert run, give this place a chance. I never had Asian-inspired desserts before coming here and I'm so happy I tried them! read more
Definitely one of BR's best dessert spots! They have boba, taiyaki fish waffles, croissants, soft serve, and bingsu! The soft serve flavors rotate so definitely check their social media for weekly flavors. Their bingsu is sooo good but come in a huge size, so definitely something to share with another person.
